Your wife is CORRECT, you should have bought a Trailhunter. Because you go camping with the wife and dogs. The TRD pro with the seats and Fake hood scoop that's hard to see over and vibrates. A Black Truck is a full time job to keep clean and you live in Florida, ouch.
@@benjaminbrown7127 you sure about that? From what I've seen it does not do anything and doesnt have any path even into the general engine compartment area.
The trail hunter has so many more features it’s not even close. It also has a functional backseat. I’m torn between a Land Cruiser and a trailer hunter 4Runner and I can’t for the life of me understand what Toyota was thinking. The 4Runner has so much more stuff for the same price.
Toyota is already losing their butt with this new generation. Toyota buyers don’t want turbocharged 4cyl engines, non-existent backseat space and a $70k price tag. There’s no justification for a 40% price increase over the last generation Pro
I was just at a Toyota dealership in Rhode Island yesterday. They had a trail hunter all black in the showroom for MSRP, very few options. Was priced at $64,000. If I was in your position, I would have bought trail hunter over TRD PRO.
For your channel, the Pro is the right choice, but the Trailhunter is better. Adding that GFC topper would've made the ride even smoother since it's made to camp/ haul.

Given I can't actually sit in a Tacoma with a moonroof without my head hitting the liner, the lack of any future roof leaks is a selling point for me. Knocks the TRD Pro and the TRD Off Road Premium off my list, even ordering one from the factory by the looks of it.
Not sure honestly which would have been best. I feel there is an argument for either of the two. Really just depends on what you intend to do with the truck in regards to type of offroad adventures and if you intend to modify. I feel regardless of the two I’d still want to modify the ride height, so neither for me makes sense. Like I mentioned it all boils down to what you want to do with the truck.
I think your logic is sound in getting the Pro. I think you are correct in that it will hold its value better down the line. Also, while the snorkel sound from the TH might be cool initially I think I would really get tired of it after a short time. I also like the hood scoop, moon roof and seats on the Pro. I have no need to carry rear seat passengers, so the lack of rear legroom is not really an issue for me on the Pro.
I’ve stood by this statement since the 4th gen Tacoma came out. TRAILHUNTER IS THE BETTER CHOICE THAN THE TRD PRO. However, I understand your standpoint and where you’re coming from

I get that the TRD Pro has more history. I like to be different. Have money down on a Trailhunter 4Runner already. I also keep our vehicles a long time so not voiding my warranty and using it mostly stock makes sense.
Considering what you have and what you’re going to do with it I think you made the right call. Pulling off all of the trail hunter add on’s and making it your own makes no sense.
I had the option between the PRO and TRAILHUNTER, and I went with the TRAILHUNTER. Pro seats are a gimmick and they give you LESS space in the back. They should have left thoes seats for the Tacoma SR body it already has just 2 seats, Toyota could have maybe made a TRD PRO PRE RUNNER with the ISO seats.
I don't think you made the wrong choice. Although I would have picked the Trailhunter, the Pro "feels" (and probably is) faster because the TH weighs 300 lbs more with all the extra ARB steel and underbody protection. The Pro probably has better aerodynamics too w/o the snorkel and sport bars. The Pro's iso-dynamic seats essentially make the rig a 2-seater, but you don't have kids yet (I have 2, hence the TH would be a better fit for me). Enjoy the Pro!
I don’t buy vehicles thinking about resale value. I typically keep them until I grow out of them or until the wheels fall off. But, IMO Tacoma’s are alright (I used to have a 2014 dcsb) but for the money (if I went back to a midsize) I would have gotten a Ranger Raptor. Especially if you’re saying you want to go fast in Johnson valley the RR will handle better stock vs stock. Then if you want to upgrade get the sdi e click for the Raptor and it’s comparable to mid traveling your truck for $2k-2500 and you have to throw double or triple that for the Tacoma. Sure you don’t get an air compressor and all the gimmicky stuff the Tacoma gets but the RR will hold its value if you want to resell and people are buying them up like hotcakes. Btw I own a Gen 1 6.2L mid travel raptor.
If you were keeping both Tacos then the Pro makes more sense, but only one Taco ? I would’ve went Trailhunter all day. Better back seat room and no fake hood scoop. Pro does have better exhaust and stock wheels look way better but you could build up a Trailhunter the way you want also to make it look more aggressive. I'd be a lot more interested in the trail hunter if you could option off the snorkel and molle panel. Adds cost and seems gimmicky. Everything else seems well specced. TRD pro is a hard no because of no rear seat space.
@@TRDJonThe mods that most would probably add are already there. It is discounted. Little things like that. But as you stated, that may not be for everyone.
Trail hunter would be my choice. The back seat in the Pro is not useable. Unless you can afford to have a two seat full time off-road vehicle the trail hunter offers the best of on and off road options.
I mean eventually, the trail hunter will be discontinued and the demand for them will go up and they will keep the TRD pro around for a min so I wouldn’t say you made a mistake if you chose either one
Trailhunter is a cooler truck in my opinion, but I would hate to see everything get pulled off of it. Same goes for the Pro though... don't quite understand folks buying a premium truck and then doing a "build" on it.
I got a trailhunter....but if a pro would have been available prior to me finding the trailhunter, I would have bought it. These are niche tacomas....70k, not many people have them. I will say, my trailhunter rides pretty rough. But I think it looks better than the pro.
I got my Trailerhunter 1500 off msrp, and it's got beautiful all-weather floor coverings. The TRD pro is overrated. Those seats make it a 2 seater practically in the TRD PRO.
I hate the style of bed rack/bar. There has to be a way to style one of those that isn't so ugly. I think if they'd somehow done a modern take on the back to the future style with updated lights included, they'd sell like crazy.
Greetings John! I want to buy the new generation Tacoma, I'm leaning more towards the Trailhunter, my question to You is, do the Trailhunter have a moonroof option or not?
Jon: Thanks for another great video. Have you tried all 3 different QS3 settings on the TRD Pro yet? If so, can you describe each setting's ride quality on- and off-road? Thanks.
I know that you are heavily invested in being a Toyota fanboy, but if you are looking for a value, you just can’t beat the Ford ranger Raptor for a cost value performance proposition. More power, better fuel economy, and better off-road and on road performance.
The Trailhunter doesn't sell because the bed thing isn't optional and there isn't a sunroof. The TRD PRO has a sunroof. If Toyota wants to "fix" the Land Cruiser, they'd add a sunroof and the larger screen to the 1958, and then make all regular Land Cruisers the Premium model. Why they haven't done this yet is beyond me.

Sounds like a Pug
Trailhunter would be the way to go. glad I traded my 23 Tacoma Pro for my Jeep x 2😅
Should have bought the Trailhunter. Nobody has one so it would have pulled in more of an audience…. Plus that induction sound 🤤
I love the TRD Pro, but I have 2 kids and a wife I wanna go camping with. The TrailHunter it is.
Pro looks better but i live in Louisiana and it floods all the time. So trail hinter for hurricanes
I just can’t get over the iso Dynamic seats and the less room in the rear
I agree with the Wife
Trailhunter is nice but I aint rich nor do i want a car payment for a toy lol
Jon: Thanks for another great video. Have you tried all 3 different QS3 settings on the TRD Pro yet? If so, can you describe each setting's ride quality on- and off-road? Thanks.
I completely agree with your wife ,but the bed rack has to go !
I know that you are heavily invested in being a Toyota fanboy, but if you are looking for a value, you just can’t beat the Ford ranger Raptor for a cost value performance proposition. More power, better fuel economy, and better off-road and on road performance.
Trail hunter cause you can be the first to do a mod. Plus they should make a trail hunter with an hybrid
Seats & suspension is better on the trailhunter is the general consensus.
Its comes in white as well, not just that color.
You messed up John ...TH is the one to get then add remove as needed.
