  • Today I'm taking the new Laugo Alien out to the range to see if it matches up to the original. Spoiler, it does - and it's even better. The new grip angle is much more natural for me, and the trigger is actually a bit better than the original...

    About heat: there a pistol thumb rest that is attachable via bottom rail. For most not tricked-out race guns it's probably excessive, but in this case seems like it can be helpful if yo want to fire more than a couple of mags.

      @@exunitatevires9475 You are correct but it's not the fault of the gun. Ian mentioned he isn't a shooter with one particular gun and that was honest. I have about five competition guns and I can get less than an inch of muzzle flip with each. Some are just stock production guns. I think Ian's problem is he was letting the gun get away from him with no follow through because he was trying to be so accurate. I have yet to see a manufacturer put every thing together for a perfect pistol. Gas operated? No thanks.

  • @MegaAdeny
    @MegaAdeny 9 месяцев назад +69

    You HAVE to try that whole "stocked pistol as your only gun at a match" thing with the Laugo. You can put a much lower parallax optic on it safely, and it has a fixed barrel improving mechanical accuracy. It would be very interesting to see just how much better it could do than a P320.

    • @TheFanatical1
      @TheFanatical1 9 месяцев назад +2

      I doubt it would improve very much over any old stocked pistol. The problem with stocked pistols is the difficulty in using the pistol optic properly at ranges it was not designed to be used: I doubt Ian would have a lot of trouble with a properly zeroed P320 using a modern high-magnification optic, it's just at that point you're carrying around something that's nearly as heavy as the pistol is.

    • @MegaAdeny
      @MegaAdeny 9 месяцев назад +4

      Not sure what you're saying frankly. Magnification isn't a part of this discussion at all. Even if it were, you can't put anything big on a traditional pistol due to slide weight. But you don't need magnification to significantly improve on a Trijicon RMR or what have you, you just can't significantly improve on it without adding too much weight for it to be viable on a pistol where the optic is mobile. Also, the mechanical accuracy issue is debatable, as in Ian's experiment there were too many variables to tell how big of a contributing factor it was, but that's precisely what makes the Alien so interesting to test.

    • @TheFanatical1
      @TheFanatical1 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@MegaAdeny The reason why pistols are hard to use at signficant ranges is not mechanical accuracy, it's practical accuracy. Ian said at least once that he had trouble using his stocked pistol at ranges because the pistol red dot (that is, the thing which determines practical accuracy) was larger than the thing he was shooting at: the cone of fire was bigger than the target, and so he couldn't tell what needed adjusting and what did not. That would be easily solved with a more sophisticated sighting system, but it would obviously compromise the entire point of the pistol. Certainly this pistol is *better* than almost every other pistol out there, and probably would do better than many other pistols with or without a good sighting system, but the sighting system is the limiting factor for pistols: it's just quite difficult to aim at what you are hitting.
      I mean, the problem with a pistol that are mechanical will show up faster than a rifle, because a pistol is firing a significantly slower, signficantly more air-resistant bullet, but those problems come into play at ranges far in excess of the point where you can reasonably expect to hit something with or without a sophisticated sighting system.

    • @KeterMalkuth
      @KeterMalkuth 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@TheFanatical1 I think you're misunderstanding what Mega means. The advantage of the Laugo's design is that it separates the sights from the reciprocating mass, similar to the ALG 6 second mounts. That means you can put a rifle oriented red dot like a T2 on the Laugo, provided you have a compatible mounting piece. The big reason why pistol red dots are difficult to use in a stocked format is because most use larger dots than rifle red dots, so as to make tracking the dot easier in an application where it's nearly impossible to achieve 2 MOA accuracy. With something like a T2 with low parallax and a 2 MOA dot, you'd be able to achieve much greater accuracy in practice and have a much more usable setup than with a pistol optic.

    • @TheFanatical1
      @TheFanatical1 9 месяцев назад

      @@KeterMalkuth You're saying that the design of the Laugo makes it easier to mount rifle sights? Yes, I agree, that was partially my point: the sighting system is the most important thing. If you mounted a fixed (presumably, rifle) optic to the frame of a pistol with reciprocating slide, there is no reason why it would not perform capably.

    Honest question (yes i know, very expensive yada yada...) but do you think the price is significantly tied to the concept/action/design of the pistol? Im just curious about whether the price is linked to a more complex and more difficult to produce design, or if this is just a very high polish/quality pistol (hence the price) but a smiliar design/affect could be achived in a cheaper design. Does a pistol have to be this expensive to achieve these or similar results? Is there a market niche for these ultra low bore axis pistols that other companies just havent moved into yet?

    • @StacheMan26
      @StacheMan26 9 месяцев назад +9

      I am far, far from an authority on this, but imo most of that price point is coming from the competition gun polish. Not all, mind, but open up a bunch of the tolerances, swap the frame for polymer, etc and you could probably manufacture something to the same concept with a market price not much higher than the average striker fired Browning pistol pretty easily.

      Laugo wouldn't be happy with that because it would show that their overpriced pistol isn't better than competition pistols that cost a fraction of the price. I guarantee an equally priced competition pistol will outclass the Alien in every aspect.

      @@RSpracticalshooting I do hope that they have a more affordable model down the line like FK Brno Field Pistol -> PSD. I was glad to see a new development that was not another take on striker fired, polymer body, or a Browning tilting barrel hammer fired derivative. I don't mind rich collectors/early adopters paying for the R&D for the new concept, if that concept has the ability to be objectively better.
