Cheryl Wheeler is a treasure. The voice of an angel, and one of the best American songwriters of all time. Love everything she does. What an amazing talent!
Discovered Ms Wheeler in 86. She had a regular gig at a bar in Seekonk, Massachusetts. Have all her CD's fell in love with her songwriting and singing. Dan Seals covered her song "addicted" and she performed it with him at The American Music Shoppe. Check it out.
When I was living in Minneapolis I would listen to this song on my cassette tape, and I would think of my home in New England. This song always puts a lump in my throat. :)
I lived in Baltimore for 32 years, so she and I no doubt overlapped there (Timonium is a Bawlmer suburb). Only heard of her recently, but I would like to belatedly shout out to a hometown girl….
From the brilliant "American Music Shop" series on TNN. What talent on that stage -- Wheeler, Johnson, Mark O'Connor, Jerry Douglas, Harry Stinson ... Such talent working in Nashville in the early '90s.
I love Cheryl Wheeler...she puts on a fantastic concert. If you haven't been..then do it! There are four Lady artists on my Mount Rushmore...they are Cheryl Wheeler....Linda Ronstadt....Sandy Denny and Stevie Nicks! Wow...….
Why are the rain clouds comin', pourin' down on me? Why can't the North wind turn and blow the other way? Where has the sunshine gone? Oh I can barely see, This Northern rain is fallin', and home is callin' me. Sun in a Southern sky is all I need to see. Watchin' a small bird fly, above the fields and me Walkin' a dusty road and there's nothin' 'round the bend Except those golden tones of goin' home again. Goin' home - goin' home Muddy old river flowin' 'neath a fallen tree, Sunflower garden growin' twice as tall as me Sister and Father hear me, what I've learned today I ain't no Northern girl, I've been too long away. Goin' home - goin' home On a starry old summer evenin' Hummin' warm and sweet I hit the road believin' I was bound to leave And it took the New England sky to teach me how to say I ain't no Northern girl, I've been too long away I ain't no Northern girl, I've been too long away This ain't no Northern song - I've been too long away.
Just listening to your song.... I’m going home to Nashville after 2 Covid years of not being able to go back, now living in London.... your song brought tears to my eyes... thanks. Looking forward to seeing MY Nashville home.... ❤️

CHERYL & DAN SEALS SHOULD BE IN THE COUNTRY HALL OF FAME. YES THEY ARE THAT GOOD.
Why are the rain clouds comin', pourin' down on me?
Why can't the North wind turn and blow the other way?

Goin' home - goin' home
On a starry old summer evenin'
Hummin' warm and sweet
I hit the road believin' I was bound to leave
And it took the New England sky to teach me how to say
I ain't no Northern girl, I've been too long away
I ain't no Northern girl, I've been too long away
This ain't no Northern song - I've been too long away.
Thank you!
