Herb has one of the most distinctive voices in the business. Having heard, met, and argued for his cause, I can only say that the world is better for his presence. The most humble member of his generation.
Wow this the original.Beautiful.Takes me back to West Virginia with my mamaw and papaw. They were the sun, the stars and everything good in life.Thank you ❤
I always like the writer’s version of any song the best. It’s sung the way it was dreamed of and worked on. Covers are perfect, all of the covers of this song are absolutely wonderful. But I always come back to the beginning.
I've been a lifelong admirer of Herb Pedersen but only once got to see him in concert--at the Cactus Cafe in Austin, with Chris Hillman. They clearly have a lifelong bond of playing music together. I was slightly behind their generation and by the time I got to Nashville, you had to be wearng a skirt to get a gig as a fiddler, so I had to move to a different career. But I still pay dues, an homage to what I first loved.
One of my all time favorite songs. Great CD. Herb is one of the greatest. Really like him and Chris Hillman. Desert Rose Band was great. But again, this song really gets to me. It is just so damn good.
In my opinion, Herb is one of the greatest American singers and musicians of all time. Amazing catalog. Excellent song writer, too. Based on an hour or so I spent with him and Chris Hillman backstage at a music festival some years ago, I 'd also say he's a very nice down to earth gentleman. I could listen to his music all day and all night
Leaving home going on a road trip to provide for the family the aching emotional feeling on the departure the so many challenges on the road then finally returning home the loved ones knowing another departure is on the horizon.
One of the finest bluegrass songs ever written,,,, Ok maybe take Bluegrass out. Been a Herb Pedersen fan my whole life since age of 17, and so grateful for Chris Hillman's influence and companioship
Pedersen is a legend in his time. During his involvement with the Eagles, while part of the backup band for Linda Ronstadt, in the mid 70's, he was hardly recognized. That goes for Kenny Edwards, JD Souther, Russ Kunkle, and Andrew Gold, as well. The only one missing from Linda's backup was Randy Meisner... but I digress. Sandman and Southwest have been sadly overlooked up until around the turn of the century. The good news is: around 2010, he has gained just a little bit of the recognition that he richly deserves from the general audience. Long Live Linda!
I used to listen to Chris Smith , he played in a club in Manhattan Beach, in 1972 / 73 - Long Blond hair (LONG!) smoked cigarettes, quiet man , could play the tar out of a guitar ! here he hits the lead rips ...nice
I got here through Emmylou and the Hot Band. Glad I did! Don't remember this song. But what gets me is back then, it WASN'T country. And it isn't country today. LOL. It's just GOOD! Thanks for the upload
the engineering and production on wait a minute and whole album is 1st class, some of the best I have heard coming out of the 70's, Herb is a talented singer songwriter
My favorite song ever. His voice spot on and every note hit to perfection. Does not get better than this. Listen to every night as I finish my workout.
I thought I knew everything about Desert Rose, Herb, Hillman, Byrds, Rice Brothers, John Starling Etc. I did some graphics on DR first album with Jay Dusard, but never new this HP song and album. What a treasure. Thank You Very Much for the post.
It was released by Epic Records in 1976 with little to no promotion by the record company. I always thought it was a great album, but am surprised anyone knows about it.
So the Rolling Stones covered this 50+ years ago on a B-side of something else and it's been playing in the back of my mind ever since. (Every time someone says "Wait a minuter" I sing the first line of this song). I'd love to own this Chris Peterson album, though...
great version by the author of this great song. i would hate to guess how many time this song has been recorded. the first release was in 1974 by johnny rivers. it is a good country music version that i enjoy. the seldom scene released their great version in 1974 on the old train album. i think my favorite version is the seldom scene recording on the tommy hunter show with john duffey singing lead. i love duffey's high tenor and the great harmony on that version. if you ask me next week, i may have another favorite version. you know how that goes. mood and which one did you hear last.
Funny but sad that the way I'd first hear this song sung by its writer would be when John Starling died. Love this version, as I do Seldom Scene's and Eric Brace's. .
I like this version, but I like John Starling singing lead and John Duffey singing this in B the best. Not a criticism of a great song, the Seldom Scene took this song to heart.....................and it became their most requested song. Had I written it, I would consider that a compliment of the highest sort. Sometimes the writer just plants a seed.
I don’t know which way the arrow goes, but I assume from Clarence to Herb, which is in no way to say which is better. But Herb sang with the Kentucky Colonels quite a bit…and was on the album in progress when Clarence died, as evidenced by this: ruclips.net/video/S8YK5vkalTc/видео.html
a great song by a great song writer. too bad this is out of print. I have a number of versions of this song performed by Herb and friends, check my videos.
This is the first time I've heard the original. Thanks herb, great song.
Wow! I had no idea anyone else knew about this record. A personal gem from way back when. Absolutely love his vocal tracks!
I have an autographed copy of it!

Herb's a national treasure. Was lucky enough to hear him perform this with John Jorgenson last week. Just perfect!
so envious!
One of the best albums ever, and one that melded bluegrass/country/rock the most effectively. Great song!!
I absolutely love this song and this by far is my favorite version
Have you heard seldom scene sing wait a minute ?
I always like the writer’s version of any song the best. It’s sung the way it was dreamed of and worked on. Covers are perfect, all of the covers of this song are absolutely wonderful. But I always come back to the beginning.
I don't know what this song has that scratches my soul an makes me believe that a better world is possible...
Yes, this is country at it's best. Herb and Chris and the boys.

Nashville may be the commercial end of country, but the "Bakersfield" guys are number one in country music. Take note Nashville.
mosrite60...... merle
I was dating a lovely airline stewardess when this song came out. So many days and nights she would be gone...we never made it.

Wait a minute ,it’s a beautiful song.i had never heard it before a few weeks ago..by John Duffey &Seldom Scene Band.
Still my favorite version.

He also played on gram parsons solo work
@@michaeldewitt2075 before that, he basically replaced Doug Dillard in the Dillards.

First heard this song covered by "The Laural Canyon Ramblers" during the early 2000's. Discovered another classic.
Give a listen to seldom scenes version of wait a minute
Who ever produced this album did one hell of a job.
+D'Ascoyne - Mike Post produced it. And I agree, he did a great job.
And he was a master composer of lots of TV shows like Rockford, L.A. Law, Hunter, A-Team, and Hill Street Blues.
@@jnadle1 WOW !!
I could've done without the drums. I don't think they're needed. But still, it sounds great, doesn't it.
@@johnstephen7610 drums are ok but were a little overdone.
I'm not sure my feelings about this song and Herb can be put into words.....thank you Herb for allowing me to cry again !!
Got me through college. Bless you Herb...
This is simply beautiful.
the engineering and production on wait a minute and whole album is 1st class, some of the best I have heard coming out of the 70's, Herb is a talented singer songwriter
I God..... I'm crying! This fucking song. Oh, God, the pain!
A hugely influential song. Decades later I can transport.
My favorite song ever. His voice spot on and every note hit to perfection. Does not get better than this. Listen to every night as I finish my workout.
This is a perfect song ! Love !
Oh boy, is this good!
masterpiece. period.
Well done... this is the best version of this music..... 😊

The Dillards...
Really good. I stumbled on this. What a great song. Great players all
Beautiful ! ~
Great song
His harmonies o his solo albums and with DRB are awesome, and what a great songwriter, been a fan since Herbs first albums in the 70's....
MASTERPIECE
Fantastic
LOVE
good!!!!! thanks..
Plain awesome
Great

I'm sure the Rolling Stones never covered this and you confuse it with another one. :-)
Can you provide a link or a reference to the Stones cover? This assertion seems unlikely and I can find no reference for it.
Many bands have covered this. So good.
I've been looking for this version. :) Thanks!
Incredible arrangement!
Just a great song
JEEZ, bought on vinyl LP, long ago, and far away!
First time I have ever heard this version. Very good. Traced it back from Seldom Scene.
oh Herb there still trying
to do a better version of your original this is it folks. ..the best by far..
Jim Gordon on drums, wow. So creative!
EPIC
Very Good song I've been trying to find out who wrote this song forever ! This recording is so good thanks for posting it. Scott
Herb made the Dillards into a different band and for the better. Talented man.
This is a great fresh take on this Seldom Scene tune. Great guitar and vocals. Enjoy the tempo and style.
Herb wrote it.
@@garydarsey4599 Thnk you for clarifying the authorship. 👍
@@danstune I haven't found any version of this song by any artist on YT that isn't good. Which I think shows how outstanding the song is!

Good song for ever
The novelty band The Cleverlys do my favorite version of this song. But this is very good!
classic
So heart-felt & beautiful is this one = folk is often equalled to "white man's soul" music, methinks
Lovely. I'm only aware of Herb via John Jorgenson, and subsequently seeing him credited with arranging the harmonies for Trio.
Seldom Seen does an amazing cover.
check out David Latto Band version
young scottish band doing a great tribute to this great song :)
Love Herb Pedersen! Is he singing the harmony with himself? 😘
Funny but sad that the way I'd first hear this song sung by its writer would be when John Starling died. Love this version, as I do Seldom Scene's and Eric Brace's.

this is a great version but i agree with you about the seldom scene. sure miss those boys.
Russ Harbaugh Herb did a lot more than just plant a seed....he sings it with its original intentions !
No disrespect to John Duffey, but Herb is a better vocalist in my opinion. And equally as seldom seen!
Johnny Rivers did a cover of this song with Linda Ronstadt and (guess who) Herb himself doing back up. Not bad
Rivers is one of the few artists that could do a cover and make it better. How many could get Ronstadt to do harmony with him Also, Phil Everly.
His singing style and Clarence White's are very similar. I wonder who influenced who?
I don’t know which way the arrow goes, but I assume from Clarence to Herb, which is in no way to say which is better. But Herb sang with the Kentucky Colonels quite a bit…and was on the album in progress when Clarence died, as evidenced by this:

This is good. But Alan Jackson made a pretty good version too
