Bad villan to be honest, we really don't get any background on him, it really doesn't make any sense that anyone would want calamity Ganon fucking shit up, so unless some dlc comes and save his character, it's just meh... He is just bad for the sake of being bad
I just want y’all to know that Astro is the only antagonist in the entire Zelda series to order his minions to kill Zelda. Not capture not steal her triforce. No to actually KILL her
Yep, and lots of people aready say he's so weak while they are all just too stupid to switch to hard mode. I tried to win the fight in the korok forest with Daruk, on standard mode, took me long enough with 3x healing
Probably because Zelda had the complete triforce power that can contain and erradicate the calamity in contrast to the previous games where Ganondorf needed both Zelda and Link to obtain the triforce since he had one part of the power itself. The calamity doen't need Zelda because it has its own power already that can be almost as great as Zelda's power.
Can we talk about how Sooga was apparently able to hold off Malice Link and all four Blight Ganons AND Astor long enough for Master Kohga to escape? Absolute lad.
What I love about Astor is that if he just looked a little harder at his visions he would have seen that he's not there, not in the ancient stories, not in the ancient writing, not in his visions. And instead of both realising that and asking himself "I wonder why that is?" he got drunk on the power of Ganon and played himself leading to his own death
Real talk, Astor is the best example of a D&D warlock I've seen in non-tabletop media. The stylish evil wizard getup, the spellcasting focus, the heavy reliance on projectiles made of evil, the patron he has an almost religious devotion to while also foolishly believing he can control even though said patron really doesn't give a f@%# about him, the big brain plays undone by blinding overconfidence. It's just perfect.
What i love about it, is how Ganon was fine continuing to toy with Astor and use him till the very end, but the second he tries to command Ganon, that's when he has had enough. Calamity Ganon was a force of nature, and Astor helped bring back some intellect to that force, and what seems like Ganons same dark and twisted sense of humor. Astor wanted power, to feel Ganons power and have it destoye the kingdom, so that is exactly what ganon did, but Ganon still had to show that no one commands and controls the King of Evil.
Idk, loved his design and voice acting (apart from his one evil laugh), but he was such a weak villain for me. His sole motive was just "this is my fate, ganon chose me, therefore im bad". He's like a budget zant that doesn't really stand out at all. However, I'd argue he has one of if not the best conclusions for zelda villains. Seeing the dark egg just staring at him emotionlessly as it absorbs him was actually incredible. Not to mention just hearing him gargle and choke as he got absorbed... Just so freaking dark😂
This new version of Ganon the calamity is a force of nature you cant control or argue it the calamity ave no goal no side no loyalty purely natural reaction
He reminds me most of Chancellor Cole: they're both fanatic servants of an incorporeal monstrosity, they both are bad bosses to and ultimately betray their minions; leading to said minions changing sides, and they both have such massively overinflated egos that, when things don't go their way, they try to _order_ their boss to do something, leading to said boss consuming them and using their body as a host.
@@schnader It is indeed, until the twist that reveals him to be an immature bumbling fool. My problem is less with the twist itself and more that it seemed extremely last-minute without any buildup (and that's because it was; it was added last-minute in the game's development).
Here's my theory: Astor is a cosplayer who couldn't find any of Ganondorf's armor laying around, so he stole one of Ganondorf's bathrobes from the dry cleaner, and accidentally grabbed one of Riju's necklaces from the Gerudo jeweler at the same time. Also he's actually just three evil koroks in Ganondorf's stolen bathrobe.
I like to think of it as something similar to what you see in Avatar the last air bender, yknow the big observatory/planetarium in the library. Maybe at some point they were able to move stuff around like in atla.
Ya but it has been 10,000 years since it was in full use dirt and rock can shift around a lot in 10,000 years it could at once been at the surface but gradually sunk or got buried
Maybe it's not observing this realm, but the sacred realm? The two realms were originally mirror images of each other, but after 1000s of years disconnected, they probably look quite different from each other. Maybe that observatory is above ground in it's sacred realm counterpart?
Hopefully we’ll get some more backstory in DLC or even BOTW2. I agree I was pretty disappointed with what they did with him, but wow I love his character design!! I think he is the best looking evil side character in the series!
But if Astor truly is the fortune teller the king talks about, then he must have had good relations with the royal family so that they could trust his prophecy. Maybe he used to be a really good astrologist and later decided to dedicade his life towards Calamity Ganon.
Maybe he just was a very well known fortune teller. He didn't have any special connections with the royal family per se, but his reputation as a fortune teller meant that his prediction of calamity ganons return were taken seriously. This way, king Roahm/Zelda wouldn't know him well or maybe they wouldn't even have met in person at all, but Astor could still be the fortune teller referenced in BotW.
@@bin8350 well in his description in the gallery in aoc, I’m pretty sure I think it was implied he’s Hylian. But just had an obsession for the calamity and his disguise either as a homage to ganon’s roots or to show the yiga that he was loyal to the calamity. It’s possible when he informed the king he was dressed normally or the king didn’t catch on to his whole get up.
I don’t think so. I mean, the prophecy of Ganon happened when Zelda was really young. Years have passed since then, so I don’t think Zelda would remember and it’s entirety possible Astor had changed since then
Astor is also related to goshawks, animals who symbolize shrewdness and greed. Goshawk in italian is Astore. An aristocratic family with italian roots called the Astors, have a motto which is "Ad Astra" (to the stars).
When I saw this video I thought about Christian theology and the connections between Demise being Satan, Ganondorf being the Antichrist and Astor being the false prophet. Does anyone else see this comparison?
@@jillianh7565 I just don't think we should compare video game villains to the real life bad guy. I know that the game devs made Demise to appear like Satan, and I don't hold any grudges against them or anything, I just feel like it's... edgy in a way.
My theory is he still managed to get consumed after the calamity was released Since he was no longer useful, Astor would still have tried to control the calamity, as we see here, but he still would have failed.
Zeltik: Astor completely exemplifies the role of Ganons's pawn. RUclips's Auto-generated captions: Astor completely exemplifies the role of Ganon's p o r n
I think he was the “unspoken Fortune Teller” that was mentioned in creating a champion who in both AoC and BOTW was consumed in the calamity AoC made him more active in the story since he had the info of the future thanks to his evil version of The egg guardian but ultimately still died But with BOTW he (my personal theory) tried to control the calamity but easily met his doom Though he could easily still be alive within the BOTW timeline to make an appearance in the sequel
I actually have a theory regarding Sooga. I believe, whether he knows it or not, Sooga can also see the future. His comments about Astor being blind and seemingly mocking his motives ("You are blind, 'seer'. Calamity Ganon is not for mortals to control.") along with his comments about destiny after his first battle with Link ("I suppose destiny is at work then. The future is fickle.") point to him seemingly also having a sense of what the future holds. In his last scene, he states that he will protect Kohga with his life. We don't see him again after that, leading my nerd brain to believe he said that knowing something would go horribly wrong. Also don't forget that the Yiga Clan used to be ancient Sheikah. The ability to see the future could have been forgotten about as the two sides, Sheikah and Yiga, separated, and the innate powers the ancient tribe held could resurface unintentionally in some members of the Yiga Clan with or without them knowing it. Sooga is shown to have some form of magic, with the red beams he shoots from his swords and the force fields he projects. These abilities are different from anything else we have seen the Yiga do, so maybe with his different set of abilities came the rare ability to see the future, which he may or may not know about. So yeah, my random Sooga theory.
I have a theory about him becoming the Sage of Shadows in TotK but I’m still building it with all the info I can get from AoC, TotK, BotW and other Zelda games, we know for a fact we’re missing two sages (Shadow and Earth) and since BotW and TotK are a fusion of all timelines there’s a chance we might be able to see the temples as DLC and maybe Sooga is part of it
Yup, and i would still count on that they give him a completely different role in the botw timeline. Maybe in the botw timeline he was the famous fortune teller , never met the evil egg and thus maybe worked for the good side when he had to hide after his prophecy....at least it's my latest hc. Would be neat though if he's in the good side, and kind of a surprise after fighting against him
Except...it's been 100 years..? The only people still alive from the time of the Calamity in Botw is Impa, super old, and an old lady who was just a little girl at the time. Impa is definitly younger than Astor, so Astor would be *WAY* to old or dead to have a role in Botw2.
The sad part of this, when link was fighting the hollow champions at the korok forest, Astor could’ve do the same thing to link when he was thrown towards Astro.
@@kennaa28 I know Vaati is a Minish but I'd like to think there's some kind of unspecified race that characters like Ghirahim, Astor and Yuga are part of. Some kinda race with a strong affinity for magic and that's why they're pulled towards Ganon (Demise). They don't look exactly Hylian obviously but I guess the explanation is that they're demons or have been tainted by evil or sum
When I saw this video I thought about Christian theology and the connections between Demise being Satan, Ganondorf being the Antichrist and Astor being the false prophet. Does anyone else see this comparison?
We really need him (and Sooga) to become playable... as he's ALREADY present in-game! A free update would be perfect... much like what happened with Cia, Wizzro and Volga in the first hyrule warriors... We can safely assume we will see at least some, DLC, as the game already sold very well, and its predecessors received updates starting the second week after its release.
Sooga kind of... died, though. it isnt outright stated but its HEAVILY implied. they didn't give him much screen time and then they basically killed him off, so i doubt they'd care enough about him to make the effort to make him playable. (edit: im saying this as someone who really loved Sooga, i personally would love to see him playable, but its very unlikely)
@@kaninekodiak Yes but in the alternate / true ending in the alternate credits Sooga can be seen showing every survivor, so Sooga did technically survive

3:54 'a seer from a certain small village in Hyrule' ...do I smell a backstory here where Link grew up with Astor in Hateno and couldnt recognize him when he met him again in his emo phase in age of calamity??
Curious, if Astor exists in Breath of the Wild's timeline, could he potentially appear in the sequel? Yes, he would have to be well over a hundred years old, but if Impa is any indication, this may not be as much of an obstacle as it would prove for others.
The fact that he showed any fear while getting absorbed made him seem weaker than I thought he was. I would've thought he'd be very willing to get sacrificed.
Ganondorf is about world domination Ganon is about world destruction Why the fuck annyone who help Ganon? What are they expecting!? i like the yiga clan more accurate Ninja than the sheikah but why the fuck they want to bring ganon back? They want to be destoyed!? I will never anderstand vilain who want to destroy the world... Not rule it but destroy it ... What are they gaining?
@@luthiamoonlightfrqc2905 The Yiga are only accurate when disguised as travelers. Real ninja forbade black colors and obvious crime costumes. The real ninja made thier weapons from farming equipment and wore street clothes with colors that didn't attract attention. The reason for wanting the world destroyed is due to indiscriminate and intense hatred and or cult beliefs. People go on killing sprees and then kill themselves, so if a bad guy had that level of rage and insanity, I don't see why he wouldn't want to destroy the world if he had the power to do so. There could also be a messed up religion surrounding Ganon. A religion like that would likely be just like a real life doomsday cult. Some cults commit mass suicide like Heavens Gate did. A villian wanting to destroy the world can easily make sense. There are litterally entire churches in the southern parts of my country that are praying for Armageddon all the time. If Hitler had the power to destroy the world once he lost to the allies, make no mistake, he would have. If real life people want the end of the world, then fictional characters wanting it makes perfect sense. Edit: I know I'm breaking Godwin's law by mentioning Hitler, but I'm not wrong. Switch his name out for a number of really bad people and it still applies. I'd bet money that if given the ability to do so, the columbine shooters would've destroyed most if not all of the earth. Not being remembered isn't a factor in destroying the world if one believes in an afterlife. The feeling of power a villian would get by destroying the world would probably be unimaginable.
@@luthiamoonlightfrqc2905 I also want to add that Ganondorf is someone who is almost always alone and likely hates everyone with a passion. In Ocarina of Time, his castle didn't have any people in it. He turned the town market into an uninhabited monster infested nightmare so no one could live anywhere near him. He is sealed in the evil realm and floats alone in a void for centuries. He is completely alone in Twilight Princess when Link finds him in the castle. A character that hates being around people that much is a perfect candidate for wanting to do extremely antisocial things like kill all the hylians and other sentient beings he hates. In wind waker he claims that he wanted a better life for the Gerudo, but in Ocarina of Time he simply built his castle in an uninhabited wastleland while his people stayed in the desert. He's the king of evil, and evil is about hating others and being selfish. Edit: Remember that he is sealed in a half dead and rotting state underground. He's been down there for over ten thousand years. I don't think he wants to do anything other than lash out right now. His mind is probably not even working in the state he's in, so he's just pure mindless rage right now. If I assume his mind is working, then he probably thinks escape is impossible due to being sealed for so long, and might just want to get revenge on Hyrule and die so he can be reincarnated. I don't think ruling the world is something he sees as attainable in his current state. If he can't rule the world or reincarnate, then destroying the world would likely be what he sees as his best option for revenge.
Astor was a bit of a coward ever since he was confronted in Korok Forest for the first time. He always runs away once you beat him, reacted in horror once Link pulled the Master Sword from its pedestal and once he was pinned in Hyrule Castle he was so desperate to keep himself unharmed that he asked *Ganon* to do the dirty work for him, and he got a very disturbing death for it.
I find it interesting that Astor's prediction of Calamity Ganon's return had the side effect of having Terrako confiscated as had he not been, he likely could have assisted during the calamity in the BOTW timeline. Astor's plan was so effective the first time that it actively surpressed potential stumbling blocks likely without him even knowing about them.
Astor could also be named after Astaroth, the great Duke of Hell in ancient Hebrew texts who is commonly a right hand to the devil. A potentially fitting connection given his role as right hand to the Demon King Ganon.
I feel like there's always going to be that one character who's a disciple of Ganon, a secondary antagonist, and is eventually killed off like somewhere near the end of the game.
My big question is this: Exactly when and how did the Calamity and Terrako change the timeline? He didn’t just go back and then turn on the Shiekah slate/central tower, since Link’s life had been changed drastically from at least his 13th birthday, and was not a royal guard, but a soldier.
@leom9240 leom9240 yeah they did just remove it lol. I went back to botw and in mipha’s diary she was pretty explicit that link had the master sword before they all became champions and before he was Zelda’s knight
I think the impact of the prophecy on the Great Calamity has been overstated. The 5 pillars that erupted around Hyrule Castle when Calamity Ganon appeared held and released many (probably most) of the guardians. So Calamity Ganon would still have had many guardians to corrupt, even if none had been excavated by the Hylians. I think the seer's foresight was just limited.
Not to mention that in AoC we were able to see how big Ganon's armies of monsters were, and that they alone would be a major problem for the kingdom if they had no Divine Beats to fight back. Even in the early chapters of the game, when Calamity Ganon wss still dormant, we can see how crucial the Divine Beats were for the kingdoms survival against the monsters. I'm not even counting his ability to revive them with the power of the Blood Moon.
Also, if you carefully study the actual "prophecy" as relayed by King Rhoam's ghost in BotW, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with seeing the future so much as giving sage advice: "The signs of a resurrection of Calamity Ganon are clear. And the power to oppose it lies dormant beneath the ground." All of that is correct, but the view seems to be looking more backwards at how Calamity Ganon was defeated in the past, rather than forward. In the actual cutscene, King Rhoam speaks of the "prophecy" as if it was passed down along with the 10,000 year old legends.
So, basically, Astor is the Hylian equivalent of a Renaissance-era scholar who read an ancient library book and became a fanboy of the classical era; convinced that they should've lived in the time of Ancient Greece and Rome and not realizing what that would've meant?
I would have loved Astor as a playable character. Getting to know his fighting skills and stuff, and I just loved how the Yiga Clan joined forces with the good guys. I thought Age of Calamity was overall a good game. Interesting new fighters and even though it wasn’t *exactly* what happened 100 years ago to at up to the aftermath in BotW, I loved getting to experience a different outcome in the time before BotW. We get to see the 1 outcome in 14 000 605 lol (.... that was a lil joke)
I'm just sad that they did so little with him. Not surprisingly, he'd meet his end somewhere along the way, but his whole character leaves room for a lot more. Here's to hoping that they bring him in through DLC. We still have some space to add characters in the roster and Astor's move set looked quite cool.
I hope we get to see Astor in the sequel. He's so interesting. After all, he might have not died in the original timeline, and find a way to keep himself young. I'm curious how he was able to connect to Ganon, why the King trusted him, and if he's still alive, would he cause any trouble?
Honestly, I think Sooga would be more interesting to see return in BOTW2 as Kohga's successor and complete opposite: cunning, competent, pragmatic, takes action, etc.
@@poopidkwhy5929 True. I just really want Kohga's successor in BOTW2 to be competent, ruthless, scary and more involved in the plot. Nintendo is sitting on a golden opportunity to have a proper fantasy ninja villain with advanced technology and I hope they seize it. In Naruto terms, BOTW gave us a boss fight against Tobi, and I'm looking forward to Obito-as-Madara in the sequel.
@@midnights2631 Yeah it is, and with the developers saying that they want BOTW2 to have a darker tone, I hope a more serious Yiga Clan (or at least, a more serious Yiga Clan leader) is part of it. They probably won't do what I have in mind, but I'm picturing a skinny guy who teleports into the scene every now and then and can easily take charge of any scene he's in unless that scene also has Ganondorf in it (providing some nice juxtaposition to emphasize how dangerous Ganondorf is), has Ancient weapons hidden up his sleeves, is far more competent with Shiekah techniques than Kohga, and is an amputee who has replaced some of his limbs with Shiekah tech.
Just a quick question on Astor. How is he able to stand that close to the master sword while it's in its pedestal? In twilight princess, when wolf link approached the master sword, it threw midna off of link and ejected the dark crystal that zant put in link. So why didn't the master sword's holy power kick in when Astor was that close to it? I'm just curious on that.
@@FreeEDP Botw is only a gameplay reboot of the series, bringing the series back to its gameplay roots, and not a reboot to story. BotW is at the very end of the Zelda Timeline as there are many story elements from all three timelines are referenced or even mentioned (The Twilight Incident, the Great Flood and Sea, Princess Ruto) in BotW, however BotW takes place so far into the future from every other previous Zelda title that which timeline it's on is completely meaningless, rendering every other previous title as Myths or Legends that may or may not have taken place in Hyrule's history.
I honestly think we shouldn't take everything in this game too seriously. First off, it's a Hyrule Warriors game made not by Nintendo, but by a completely different company, Koei Techmo.
@@Ty-yy7zr I think it was mostly just stuff like the designs, voice acting, the map, ruins, landscape and the like rather than being there every step of the way. They're also deep into working on botw 2 right now, so I don't know how they could do both of those things at the same time.
In the last cutscene with him, my first thought was “He’s the fucking hand-“ And then I thought more about it and generated more questions for myself-Such as, “How did he get in such a state” in the original timeline, and “Why would he be so serving Ganon?”
I'd like to point out the fact that Astor knows how to harvest life essence from living creatures, leading me to believe that he may have not acquired this ability from Harbinger Ganon, but rather learned it earlier in life, perhaps from a certain horned statue from a small village in Hyrule, Hateno Village. As for why Link would'nt recognize him, maybe his appearance changed due to aging (he seems to be a man in his mid thirties, meaning he could very well have left Hateno by his mid-teens when Link was born. Or perhaps serving the great king of evil greyed his skin, darkened his eyes and made his face rather gaunt) Also he may be the one who knew about the partial discovery of the astral observatory in hyrule castle's library's secret chamber, he may even have gotten his crystal ball from there.
I love how they hyped up shadow link and they didn’t like even mention him when he appeared and he was literally the easiest mini boss I’ve battled against in aoc
It makes sense that Astor is the fortune teller, my reason for thinking so is due to the fact that several things changed when Terako went back in time. Main example is Link, in the original timeline, he has the Master Sword for roughly 5 years, but in the other timeline, he builds up to it at a later point in his life.
The moment I saw Astor when first playing this game, I immediately fell in love with him. I finished the game in about 3 days just to get to all the Astor cutscenes, and ngl, I cried when he got, killed, let’s just say.
I took a bit longer to finish admittedly, but I was the same way, utterly fascinated with him from the beginning. He got so few lines though it's almost criminal. I hope he ends up being playable later with DLC. I can just imagine all the unhinged cackling with some of his moves.
What concerns me about this theory is at least in the english version of Creating a Champion, it says the fortune teller was "a trusted advisor of the king." And to me, that doesn't add up with Astor.
Alright, but I'm just wondering how much of a difference mistranslation of Japanese could make especially since typically Nintendo doesn't have a now "all your base are belong to us" situations
This whole theory base is that the fortune teller was evil, and that he used to kingdom to get the Guardians for Ganon, so that he could win the war. First and foremost, it's needless to say that if such a big plot twist was indeed part of this story, it's strange for it to not even get a small mention in game. I mean, surely Astor would reveal his evil plan or something like that. It's just to big of a twist to go unmentioned. But we can also argue that Calamity Ganom would surely win the war even without the corrupted technology. We saw in AoC itself that the hoards of monsters under his influence was huge, and that they would have overrun the kingdom if the Champions were not in possession if their giant robots. And Ganon has the powers of the Blood Moon to revive this monsters, and this was a problem that even with the Divine Beats the kingdom almost couldn't surpass.
Zeltik. Certain small village. I'm willing to bet it's probably Hateno. We have a certain demon statue near the entrance. Could be our Seer's hometown, maybe where he learned his dark craft?
I have a small theory, I think Astor is part of something bigger, like a cult that heavily worships Ganon. If I'm right, which I'm probably not, it could be part of the plot of Botw 2.
There's a couple of issues with the idea that Astor is the very same prophet that gave the prophecy of Calamity Ganon's return. 1. Nobody recognises him. Not even the king himself, who would have been privy to his identity with the prophecy. Now, you could argue that the prophecy was told in whispers around the kingdom, but it's much more likely that King Rhoam would have sought council with a prophet to confirm these claims at least. 2. Astor's supposed "prophet" moniker could just as well be one bestowed to him due to Harbinger Ganon's interference in the past, and thus "insight" of future events to come. This does not and cannot happen in the BotW timeline due to Terrako no longer existing in the BotW timeline, so this should bring Astor's prophet abilities into question at least.
Thank you so much for making this video. This both clears up some confusion I had, and also reminded me of important details I had forgotten! Awesome job!
Astor's design actually kinda reminded me of Vaati. The lighting of the scenes he appears in makes it hard to tell what color his outfit actually is, but it certainly can look like a dark purple in some of the shots he's in. So assuming it is dark purple, we've got a villain with a dark purple outfit featuring a cape, with gold and red accents (the gold headband with a red gem right on the forehead made the resemblance particularly strong in my opinion), and similarly pale grey skin tones (not exactly the same, bit similar enough that I wasn't even sure there was a difference until I pulled up a side-by-side comparison). And while it's no wear near as much of a match as the rest of the similarities I just listed, there's also the asymmetrical hairstyles that shade one of the eyes. Kinda surprised you didn't mention Vaati when talking about previous LoZ villains that Astor's design makes callbacks to. I never even noticed the Ghirahim diamonds.
The DLC revealed that Astor is nowadays Nothing more but a Cult Member that worshipped Calamity Ganon, and the Harbinger killed all those who were unworthy, only Astor, the probably most diabolic one of them, remained.
I like his design and his role in the story, but I always felt like there was something missing. He has his moments of crazy, but it wasn't the kind of crazy Ghirahim or Zant had.
My theory is that Astor may either an reincarnation or in some other way, related to vaati. From his jewel on his head to his purple attire and his ever present knowledge. So, perhaps Ganondorf isn't the ONLY main danger of demise to come to be
Fun fact, Jon Lipow, (voice of dark prophet astor), has done some narration work for Nintendo! He actually narrated the Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia trailer, and I kind of think the Paper Mario: The Origami King trailer sound likes him....
I think Astor killed Zeldas mom when he was a fortune teller for the royal family because it doesn’t say how Zeldas mom died, in the game it just said “unexpected death”. I bet he planned it so Zelda would fall back to unlock her powers and to have problem with the king in order for Ganon to have no problem to eliminate Link and Zelda, but it’s just my theory.
Astor's strongest similarity is actually with the manga version of the Dark Interlopers. There's a tattooed, hooded, white-haired man holding an orb of some kind suspended over long, thin fingers on one of the pages discussing the interlopers.
I just took the cog on his staff to be cargo cultish; something he found, and has no idea how it really works, but it's a link to the ancients and he gets more reflected glory from that.
I'm still waiting for the prequel to Breath of the Wild that was supposed to have released on the 20th. A game came out on the 20th, but it was some time-travel story and not really a prequel, so that couldn't have been it.
@@matthewmuir8884 gameplay wise what would you get from that? King Dies Champions Die thats all you really can see then. Links downfall is seen in a botw memory. Only thing they could do is telling the story of 10.000 years ago now THAT would have been really amazing.
I really, really hope he returns in BOTW 2 (along with Ghirahim BUT that's another story) because if he's here in this alternate timeline, surely he has to be in the second one.. if he's willing to serve Calamity Ganon, then Ganon would extend his life over the course of 100 years, or he'd find some way to do it himself.
i don't think that Astor is the Fortune Teller when we first see him with the main cast, Zelda doesn't seem to recognize him. if he was the Fortune Teller, Zelda would probably say something along the lines of "What are you doing here?" or something like that. she would show some signs of familiarity with him, but as far as i can remember, she doesn't
Exactly. And we have to agree that his would be the biggest plot twist in game regarding the convictions of the King and the Prophecy, to big to go unmentioned. We have zero confirmation about it in game, and I suppose a good writer would use this as a major point in the story.
Zelda was a small child when the fortune teller predicted ganon's return. She didn't even remember terrako up until the very end. Who's to say she was even present to see the fortune teller considering her young age when they visited the king? It's also possible astor used magic to change his appearance, just like the yiga can disguise themselves as normal travelers.
This may be a hot take but for me the Calamity absorbing Astor was the most terrifying and disturbing Zelda scene ever... dude had it coming but sh*t had me SPOOKED
Edit: Astor also has an obvious similarity to Vaati! I love his design, it references so many things! What do you guys think of his character?
Maybe He Is Vaati.

Hey he’s clearly a rock.... roast....
Hey; don't dis-Astor like that.

I mean: sorta
All of this! He's so trope-y ("Evil is Not a Toy" is probably the biggest one) and I love it so much
What i love about it, is how Ganon was fine continuing to toy with Astor and use him till the very end, but the second he tries to command Ganon, that's when he has had enough.

Astor reminds me of Zant how Ganon used them as pawns and did not care for their well being or death.

Unlike Astor, Zant's character is fantastic.

they don't need to have it above ground if they can just project the stars
Astor could have been so much more in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity! Change my mind
He still was a nice character. I agree, so much more potential though.

@@bin8350 that's what I was wondering. Maybe they didn't recognize him with his hair up while wearing Ganondorf's bathrobe

Well considering in the "Ruined Hyrule" Timeline Astor most likely didn't get killed by Gannon so he could come back in BOTW2
I think he was the “unspoken Fortune Teller” that was mentioned in creating a champion who in both AoC and BOTW was consumed in the calamity
AoC made him more active in the story since he had the info of the future thanks to his evil version of The egg guardian but ultimately still died
But with BOTW he (my personal theory) tried to control the calamity but easily met his doom
Though he could easily still be alive within the BOTW timeline to make an appearance in the sequel
We Stan Sooga
I have a theory about him becoming the Sage of Shadows in TotK but I’m still building it with all the info I can get from AoC, TotK, BotW and other Zelda games, we know for a fact we’re missing two sages (Shadow and Earth) and since BotW and TotK are a fusion of all timelines there’s a chance we might be able to see the temples as DLC and maybe Sooga is part of it
Yall wrong
I think AoC is only introducing him and his intentions. He may reappear on the unaltered timeline in BotW2.
My thoughts exactly
Yup, and i would still count on that they give him a completely different role in the botw timeline. Maybe in the botw timeline he was the famous fortune teller , never met the evil egg and thus maybe worked for the good side when he had to hide after his prophecy....at least it's my latest hc. i like the yiga clan more accurate Ninja than the sheikah but why the fuck they want to bring ganon back?
@@luthiamoonlightfrqc2905 w3ll, Ganon in A Link to the Past was more intelligent and wanted to conquer the Light World.
Finally another person providing another possible origin of the name!
Link and every good guy when seeing him: "who are you again"
Yeah, i think he went for this reaction. Yk, working in the shadows and so on
I swear from the trailer I was like 99% sure that Astor was Vaati, but naw, I guess he’s now vaatis second cousin once removed XD
I feel like there's always going to be that one character who's a disciple of Ganon, a secondary antagonist, and is eventually killed off like somewhere near the end of the game.
My big question is this:
Exactly when and how did the Calamity and Terrako change the timeline? He didn’t just go back and then turn on the Shiekah slate/central tower, since Link’s life had been changed drastically from at least his 13th birthday, and was not a royal guard, but a soldier.
My theory is that Terrako ended up traveling to a different timeline's past.
Steins;Gate has a pretty good explanation for this sort of thing, but basically, Terrako probably travelled back into a parallel world's past
Any timeline you change is technically parallel to the original.
Exactly lol, he was supposed to have the master sword before any of the events of age of calamity
@leom9240 leom9240 yeah they did just remove it lol. I went back to botw and in mipha’s diary she was pretty explicit that link had the master sword before they all became champions and before he was Zelda’s knight
8:00 Another fun fact: disASTER - we get the 'aster' part of that word bc ppl thought that falling stars were an ill omen.
Also, if you carefully study the actual "prophecy" as relayed by King Rhoam's ghost in BotW, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with seeing the future so much as giving sage advice:
"The signs of a resurrection of Calamity Ganon are clear. And the power to oppose it lies dormant beneath the ground."
All of that is correct, but the view seems to be looking more backwards at how Calamity Ganon was defeated in the past, rather than forward.
I was born in the wrong generation syndrome

@@FreeEDP Botw is only a gameplay reboot of the series, bringing the series back to its gameplay roots, and not a reboot to story. He's dead
Completely, utterly dead
The real question is; Why is Astor
@@fireboltthegamer2142 WHEN is Astor
he dead
In the last cutscene with him, my first thought was “He’s the fucking hand-“
And then I thought more about it and generated more questions for myself-Such as, “How did he get in such a state” in the original timeline, and “Why would he be so serving Ganon?”
Personally, I think the hand is the spirit of the hero 10,000 years ago. Also, I think the hero was a Gerudo
This game just makes me even more hyped for BOTW 2!
I'd definitely like to see more about astor in botw 2, he has a lot of potential
@@waxwinged_hound That would be amazing, I would always play as him lol
What concerns me about this theory is at least in the english version of Creating a Champion, it says the fortune teller was "a trusted advisor of the king." And to me, that doesn't add up with Astor.
In the same paragraph though it says that the fortune teller was "a hero from the shadows" something that again doesn't match Astor.
@@theyounglinker5044 Valid point.
You were right
There's a couple of issues with the idea that Astor is the very same prophet that gave the prophecy of Calamity Ganon's return.
What if Astor worked in the Astral Observatory for the Royal Family.
Thank you so much for making this video. This both clears up some confusion I had, and also reminded me of important details I had forgotten! Awesome job!
so astor can pull souls out of a body
could there be a relation to the hateno statue?

Need him and sooga as dlc
apparently voice clips of them and purah and robbie got leaked so it's probably happening
@@StarbitO Wait, for real? I'm definitely paying for that then.
Or maybe it could be a free update. Maybe you will have to complete the story to play as Astor and sooga
Your editing skills are frightfully good. Just pure, solid work man.
The DLC revealed that Astor is nowadays Nothing more but a Cult Member that worshipped Calamity Ganon, and the Harbinger killed all those who were unworthy, only Astor, the probably most diabolic one of them, remained.
Infinite LOVE for your videos!
I haven't clicked that quickly on a video in a long time!!
Same
Never in my life have I been so fast
This was the first thing on my recommendations
I’ve been so excited for videos on Astor!🥺✨
I like his design and his role in the story, but I always felt like there was something missing. He has his moments of crazy, but it wasn't the kind of crazy Ghirahim or Zant had.
My theory is that Astor may either an reincarnation or in some other way, related to vaati. From his jewel on his head to his purple attire and his ever present knowledge. So, perhaps Ganondorf isn't the ONLY main danger of demise to come to be
Me, who hasnt finished the game I WANT TO WATCH I WANT TO WATCH I WANT TO WATCH AHHHHHHHH
I wish we learned more about astor backstory and how he became a villain
Zeltik, I'm dissatisfied with your seeming unwillingness to acknowledge that master koga is now, canonacally, a bottom.
Ayo what. Where’d this come from 😂
@@pippinpots1399 fr
Can we all agree how frightening Astor's death was? You could see how scared and shocked he was when he realized he was about to perish.
I love this world and I can't wait for the sequel! Gimme now!
Imagine if when it seems like Hyrule Castle is being lifted out of the ground it's being taken to space.
Guys he’s clearly Michael Jackson
Robbie is MJ
No, Robbie is MJ
@Palnatoke Pawlovski, The Scientist
Astor is Orochimaru duh.
Astor is gundham Tanaka
Astor's strongest similarity is actually with the manga version of the Dark Interlopers.
There's a tattooed, hooded, white-haired man holding an orb of some kind suspended over long, thin fingers on one of the pages discussing the interlopers.
I was wondering this myself. Interested to hear your thoughts
I just took the cog on his staff to be cargo cultish; something he found, and has no idea how it really works, but it's a link to the ancients and he gets more reflected glory from that.
At first I thought Astor was vaati or ghirahim cause he is pale wears a hood, and has diamond patterns on his cloak I think
I would have loved to see Peppermint Sprinkles make a return in AoC

this is such a good theory and Astor has so much left unanswered to both his character AND the plot.
Roses are red
Violets are blue
Idk about you
But I’m still waiting for botw 2
I'm still waiting for the prequel to Breath of the Wild that was supposed to have released on the 20th. A game came out on the 20th, but it was some time-travel story and not really a prequel, so that couldn't have been it.
@@matthewmuir8884 gameplay wise what would you get from that? King Dies Champions Die thats all you really can see then. Links downfall is seen in a botw memory. Only thing they could do is telling the story of 10.000 years ago now THAT would have been really amazing.
@@matthewmuir8884 guess you can't get everything you want in life
@@nurdieruhe your right it just would’ve been playable memories from BOTW which would make a lot of fans mad and look like a cash grab
@@nurdieruhe maybe we play as the villains for once
I really, really hope he returns in BOTW 2 (along with Ghirahim BUT that's another story) because if he's here in this alternate timeline, surely he has to be in the second one.. if he's willing to serve Calamity Ganon, then Ganon would extend his life over the course of 100 years, or he'd find some way to do it himself.
Darn it! I’m early for once in my life and I can’t watch it yet because I haven’t finished the game. I have even more motivation to finish now 😊
I haven’t even bought the game and I watched his video on the whole story. I don’t really care for spoilers.

hope they keep using this character, so developed for such a short debut you know?
I legit forgot this guy existed
Just beat Age of calamity today and Loved its gameplay and story
i don't think that Astor is the Fortune Teller
when we first see him with the main cast, Zelda doesn't seem to recognize him. if he was the Fortune Teller, Zelda would probably say something along the lines of "What are you doing here?" or something like that. she would show some signs of familiarity with him, but as far as i can remember, she doesn't
Exactly. And we have to agree that his would be the biggest plot twist in game regarding the convictions of the King and the Prophecy, to big to go unmentioned. We have zero confirmation about it in game, and I suppose a good writer would use this as a major point in the story.
@@theyounglinker5044 yeah, i agree
In japanese profile it said that he's a fortune teller
@@ParkBomisMine21 Well, A fortune teller, not THE fortune teller.
Sooga: you can’t control the calamity
Astor: yeah right
Astor when he gets absorbed by calamity ganon: surprised pikachu face
He reminds me of Vatii
This may be a hot take but for me the Calamity absorbing Astor was the most terrifying and disturbing Zelda scene ever... dude had it coming but sh*t had me SPOOKED
