I was going to comment that the engine probably was not bad. And then heard the last lines of the video. Usually diesels in sailboats have few hours on them. Injector pump rebuild and injector clean up is about all thats necessary. Cheap repairs.
Exactly. I contacted an outfit in Virginia who specializes in rebuilding the Perkins 4 108. They said the same thing. Wound up being a clogged air inlet on the top of the engine. She runs like a top now except for the leaky transmission…
@@sailinghaldis I also bought a 70s boat that has a Nissan diesel. Previous owner could not get it running. I rebuilt injector pump on kitchen table. Think I paid $95 for the kit. New impeller, heat exchanger flush and presto. Just like new. Anyway, enjoy your boat.
Fellow sailor here. From what you showed, it looks like a sweet purchase. I've heard good things about Islanders but I never saw one up close before. The companionway is great, especially if you have a pet. The layout is is nice. Yeah, overall, for that kind of money, I'd say it's a hit! Congrats! Aloha from Hawaii :)
The rust and standing water in the bildges... Woah Nelly! I wonder about sellers sometimes. I would not have walked away, I mean stainless anchor and BBQ... Bling would have run away. Hope your keel doesn't fall off.
I have the same ‘75 Islander! She lives in the SF Bay. I’m trying to figure out how I can mount an anchor roller…. There seems to not be enough room on the teak. Was there some addition for support on yours? Would love to see a pic🙏
I have bigger plans than time allows. The first think I need to fix is the rear seal of the Perkins velvet drive. Otherwise, I plan to shine her up in the spring, update the safety equipment and put on some miles. Thanks for the comment.
Looks like a great boat with lots of potential. Are you keeping the boat at KRM? I am restoring a boat there so I am up nearly every weekend. Maybe we will run into each other this spring.
Hi Tim! Yes, it is at KRM. I am reupholstering the seats right now. That’s a lot of work that I am grinding through. I will definitely see you in the spring.
Is the boat staying on Lake Superior? We have an Islander 36 in Thunder Bay.
Knife river. I will be sailing to T-Bay this summer. Let’s meet up.
I always heard these had good headroom. Never been aboard one.
I’m 6’1” and can stand up straight.
Great find! New subscriber , love these challenges with new boats. Wish you the best , keep us posted
Thank you!
As expected, there is plenty to work on!

Mahalo! We’re going to take good care of her. The fresh water and drying out in the winter has really slowed the aging process.

Very Nice Boat.
Thank you. She is for sale. Barkers island marina in Superior Wisconsin
@@sailinghaldis Good.
But Im in Latvia, in Europe.
Typical boat of the 70's. As long as she sails good, all's good 👍
Thank you!

It must have been done by prior owner but looks quite good. I can send you a picture. Tahdo@ymail.com
not a bad deal, curious to see how you update it
