    I have not heard the part in the video that touched on this yet, but The reason it’s still valuable to build your own fpv, is because if you are serious about fpv, you need to know the ins and outs, how to modify and customize, troubleshoot and fix your craft. I think spec-ing out your own fpv is not for beginners, but building is, especially because of the build kits that are available with full tutorial walk through. Just like I needed to build my own websites to learn programming, even if through instruction, same with this fpv career (I refuse to call it a hobby). Once you have built your own, I think it’s fine to explore bind & fly or visa versa, but by building you learn. And you should learn things on the daily. Especially if you are serious about it.

    Love the obstacles!!
    26:46 accurate. It's just not cost effective to build a quad anymore unless you start accumulating spare parts and multiple quads due to crashes. Even then, even frames have gone up in price... Some hitting $100. You really end up paying 25 percent more when you build your own, and then you have to deal with the "did I do this right" question.

    Bought a mk5 two months ago and I'm super stoked! Was lucky to find an old stock deal with an MPU6000. This is my first 5" quad and I'm blown away with the performance and stability. First flights were on a 4s 1300 and for cruising I managed to get a consistent 7-8 min. I now use a 6s 2000mah pack for cinematic filming and with a gopro I easily reach 8-10min even in strong wind! I would say BNF quads are a godsend for countries which do not have a sizable FPV community. Living in Singapore, we do not have a huge selection of retailers from which to purchase parts to build from scratch and parts selection is also limited. You can argue we can purchase them overseas, but the shipping costs and currency conversions (especially with costly living standards) would simply make scratch builds too costly for beginners.
    Anyway, just want to thank you for your videos. Just started out in FPV with the Cetus X and simulators and already ordered this in 6S analogue to go further!

    Actually, carbon in the material thats really strong up until the yeild point. Even aluminum will yield more than carbon before breaking. The carbon flexibility is only applicable to something less the 3mm. But as far as something small like a drone goes the aluminum and carbon are equal.

It took me less time to install, flash and bind both the TX and RX than it took me just to bind my TX16S to an XM+ RX! So I entered this nice new hobby of mine and thank you Joshua for these videos. I learn something new each time. I have no electronic skills but learned alot from yout videos. In the end, I just want a drone and fly it. So maybe I think this Mark 5 is on my list.
    If I want to sound poetic, I believe that building a drone gives some deeper connection with it. You are a proud owner of your build.
    But if you just want to fly it, dont bother just buy it and a lot of spare parts, I learned that the first day when propelers and arm broke.

    I bought my MK5 not long after this video and so far it's performing pretty good. I replaced the default FC with a Mamba Mk4 F722 App, since GEPRC somehow had not added the barometer and it also just didn't want to work with the SpeedyBee app. After a crash I burned the ESC and replaced it with a Mamba F40. I destroyed 2 LiPos on crashes and have yet to kill a motor, but the frame just tanks crashes at 50kph into concrete like a champ.
    If I need to replace the motors, I'd definitely get some RCinpower GTS V3 2107 Plus' or Wasp Majors.

    Not only do I fall into the “I enjoy building” camp but I like how I cover the motor wires better. I also like to have some quads with motors in the lower recommended Kv rang and some in the higher range. With bind & flys, you get two choices for different cell counts. I do think BNF quads are a good way to get started.

    I have both the Roma V2 and the Evoque. I got the Roma first (late summer 2021) and my wife bought me an Evoque for Christmas. I have to say out of the box the Evoque was the better drone but I have tuned and gotten my Roma V2 so synced to the way I like to fly, I prefer it over the Evoque. The Roma feels punchier on throttle.
    The Evoque is great and looks great late evening (LEDs are gorgeous and configurable...running a fixed Seattle Seahawks ble/green theme right tnow. I did swap the camera for a Runcam Phoenix 2 (not a JB) as the default camera was terrible in variable light conditions. 600mW VTX has not been as much a liability as I thought though Roma is still better.
    I like the Mark 5 but with the cost and I don't need another 5" will keep me away. If they make a 3-3.5" of it, I am there day one as I love the basic design.

    Good review. I have an iFlight Evoque which in reality I do not prefer despite much trying to my old EMax Hawk5 with a Vista added in. IMO its simply too heavy. My Hawk5 is 320g w/o battery, even with shark fin 3D print top, actually visible (!) eight LED rear, double strapping and DAL Folds. That's REALLY noticeable in flight! SO, build from scratch? Maybe not, but modding a BNF is an option not to be discarded. The LEDS on the Evoque are for daytime use worthless. I have a 6" GEPRC Mk 4 that I built up myself, possibly the last "from scratch" build I will do. Excellent frame, was Analogue, now Vista, of course it flies the same, but now I can see MUCH better and go places I could not risk before! How will the GEPRC Mk5 fare against the Hawk5 ? Dunno, mine should be delivered today!! Finally, its a LLOOOOONNNNG time since EMax produced a new 5", any rumours??

    Love the video. The information was on point and helped me massively. Also want to say thank you soooo much from a viewers perspective.....There was no lengthy intro branding clip taking up the first minute before any content, there was not the obligatory "HEY GUYS dont forget to hit that like and subscribe" yelling at the beginning and when you do mention a like, we are already 10min into content. Brilliant! So much so that I just felt the need to comment and say keep up the good work and your videos are informative as well as a pleasure to watch!

    The motors on the Mark 5 look like a rebrand of the RCinPower GTSV3 2107 Plus (down to the font used on the Bell!) I've tested these in my recent 5" motor round up and they are great motors. Very responsive but prone to getting hot under sustained load as you would expect.

    • @QuadMcFlyFlies
      @QuadMcFlyFlies 2 года назад

      GepRC has a history of using RCINPower as their motor manufacturer, so this is definitely not a surprise. RCINPower does great work.

      @@ChrisRosser Between iFlight Evoque F5 and Geprc Mark 5 which one has the right motor to get the job done when flying with a heavy lion 6000mah for long range? I want low throttle resolution coupled with long flight time. Kind of using the same drone as a dual role purpose.

      Oscar's backpack is not reliable! I've bought several, and it seems about 50% are defective in some way. Plus, you aren't comparing Apples to Apples! Those motors are similar in quality to the ones in these BNF quads, but Oscar's backpack is not even close to the quality, performance, power, and reliability of the BNF ones. Course, it's only 200mw, vs. the lowest off the BNF's is 600mw. You are also comparing a low end brand AIO FC to a high quality stack!
      So, yours is a budget build, and the BNF's are pretty deluxe builds. Apples to Apples, equal quality parts would drive your build to probably be more than the BNF's are in cost.
      You are correct, you can build a budget 5" for less than these BNF's, but we must acknowledge the performance won't be close to the BNF quads. 😎🤘

    • @wovenskin
      @wovenskin 2 года назад

      Also, you are comparing analog vs. digital build. Of course your budget build is cheaper than the GEPRC. Not that there is anything wrong with your build. I flew a Source One with $15 motors for quite awhile. But.. just say'n.
