Expecting the Rockies to do something that makes sense is only setting yourself up for heartbreak.
Can we get Jolly on talking baseball all the time please? He is so great and I miss the dynamic of 3 people on the show, it just flows better than 2. Not trying to criticize Jake and Trev, they are excellent too, but balance it out and bring in Jolly permanently!!!
I'm all about this too- with Jimmy pretty much out of the picture in terms of three person episodes, it does feel a little flat at times. Like you said it's nothing against Jake and Trev, who are amazing professionals and crush it week after week, it's just the dynamic of the show. Jolly is smart, funny, charismatic, professional, and just a damn good dude. More importantly, he meshes seamlessly with Jake, Trev and BBD. I agree, make Jolly on TB permanently!
Yea Jolly was so good in this episode, he has so much knowledge to share and adds a little more depth to his takes/analysis which works perfectly on a trade round-up episode like this.
It would also be nice to have a Mets fan perspective in these conversations too. LGM

He is a great starter until Mookie gets back - they are making the playoffs blindfolded - no reason to give up pieces for a month or two without Mookie
It’s not just about the month or two without Mookie. Miggy Ro isn’t the answer long term, he’s better at utility IF because it seems like it keeps his bat live, but the SS position has to be addressed whether it’s at the deadline or fortifying other spots at the deadline and figuring SS out in offseason.

Not a Mets fan but Jolly is a big W. These types of guys make fanbases seem way more normal lol. Its easy to forget that the crazy fans of a team are just the loudest.
I’m a Mets fan, and I think Jolly is absolutely right about Severino. In fact, even if the Mets decide to go for it, they should STILL trade him before the bottom falls out, and the regression monster completely eats him (sorry to mix metaphors). It’s already started to happen. Other than his groundball rate, all his underlying metrics are troubling, and they have Christian Scott-their best healthy starter-sitting at Triple-A. Sure, there are innings concerns, but you worry less about that if Senga comes back in August. Severino is not the difference between making and not making the postseason, much less making a deep run. If the Mets get in, it’s likely to be in spite of their starting pitching, not because of it. His innings are replaceable. Go get what you can for him, before you can’t get anything. As for everyone else, the next 27 games are crucial, because 25 are against teams currently under .500. If they dominate and start to separate themselves, that’s one thing, but if only get to a couple games over .500, then it’s garage sale time.
Sterns probably does sell at the deadline, there’s no reason not to get off all the one year/expiring deals (unless intending to resign), the team can play 500 ball with or without a lot of those guys on expiring deals
@@alphaq1548 Yeah, I think that’s right, particularly with the pitching. I do think Pete and JD are more important, because this team’s success depends on their offense’s ability to overcome their subpar pitching, and the Mets don’t have anyone to replace those guys. If they dominate this “soft” stretch of games that ends July 22, and the Mets are solidly above .500, then those guys might stay put. Anything short of that, I’d hang up an “Everything Must Go!” sign and throw the doors open.

I hope sterns bites the bullet and just moves on from JD, Alonso, Bader, Sevy, houser, etc. I’d like to see Vientos get reps at first and consistent playing time. Maybe make that catcher we drafted a couple years ago the new first basemen. It sucks that now Martinez is finally here we have to trade him :(
@@alphaq1548 The catcher they drafted a couple of years ago, Kevin Parada, is looking more and more like a total draft bust. He might get a cup of coffee in the majors some day simply because he was a first-round pick, but it won’t be soon, and it may not be with the Mets. Everything else depends on where the Mets are as far as the wild card hunt a few weeks from now, and what the market looks like. I think they’ll be sellers, because unless they absolutely dominate this current soft stretch of their schedule, it doesn’t make sense to harm their future chances by pretending they have a shot this year. They made this exact mistake in 2021, when they should have sold at the deadline (when they underwent the world’s most predictable collapse), but decided to be buyers instead, and they’re still feeling the consequences.

But why shouldn’t the Marlins sell? The answer is the fans. Year after year the front office breaks down the team and the fans are left with nothing. The stands could be full. Heat, Dolphin, Panthers, & Canes show up to games, but Marlin fans don’t show up cause they already known the org will tear it down. It’s such a shame. Had great teams in 97 and 03, but were ripped to shreds soon after. And then again in the Stanton era. Marlins fans deserve better. Plus, they just made the playoffs last season, idk maybe build something and make a decent product

There is an absolute 0% chance the Dbacks would trade for Tommy Pham. A) They have so much outfield depth and already have platoon DH. B) Joc Pederson is on the Dbacks and they have had issues with each other.

Mets fan here - given that it's going to be a seller's market, I think they should trade Severino even if they're in the WC mix and try to thread the needle between competing and building the farm. With Severino's injury history, there's a good chance to trade him and watch him make 2 starts with his new team before getting hurt.

As a Rockies fan I know I'm a homer but hear me out: we're a starter and closer away from being competitive. I'm not saying leading the division, but we could be making noise with two guys. Trade Diaz (I love Diaz) and Cal for another starter and solid closer (our closers are insanely terrible)
