I think it's cool that he as a young Asian-American man is being open about his mental health problems too---hopefully that will help a lot of his fellow Asian-Americans to be open about their own struggles, and that they don't have to be perfect all of the time.

@@alondathomas293 considering how high suicide rates are in Asia, it's apparent to me that Asian societies frowning upon mental health is a factor. This is deep-rooted. And this carries over to AAPI societies. Recognizable people like Jeremy opening up on these taboo issues might help shine a light on them.

I deal with severe anxiety. The strange thing about it is that the better my life seems to be going the worse my anxiety is. I have been to therapy, I take my meds and do things I need to do to try and keep myself in check and healthy. My husband is supportive, he's seen me with and without my needs and he understands that they are necessary. He was wonderful when I had a breakdown a few years ago. It's wasn't a complete breakdown, I recognized what was Hattiesburg and got help quickly. My mom suffered with serious Bipolar I and ended up committing suicide 25 years ago. It was horrible, but it gave my younger sister and myself a hard lesson in how puerile with Nebraska illness are treated. People make you feel like it's your fault when it's not. It's no different than diabetes or cancer. It's a chemical imbalance in the brain and it's cruel. People shouldnt be made to feel ashamed to seek help or take their medication. Recovering drug addicted and alcoholics are applauded, but the mentally ill are treated horribly. I'm lucky to have a supportive husband, a doctor who listens and that I respond to medication for long periods of time. Some people don't have that, they can't find a medication that works long term or even one or a combination of drugs that help them. We need to educate people about mental illness and help remove the stigma and stop making puerile feel ashamed of a disease that they couldn't prevent.

Mr. Lin what an inspiration. One thing I've learned with anxiety if this helps anyone is that taking just about 3 minutes or even 90 seconds to let the wave wash over while focusing on breathing can help get you centered again at least a little, rather than spiraling.
Anxiety can be debilitating and a joy robber. Thanks Jeremy for sharing your experience and helping others to do the same. 💚

I read his anxiety kept him from being able to sleep at all before games and to play at his level on zero sleep is amazing, and certainly was not a great situation for him with any injuries he had, in terms of healing. I truly have empathy for the rare level of pioneership and knowing a whole invisible community's lives are changing because of him, that certainly must have contributed to the anxiety.

Wonderful to hear, well anybody anywhere talk about mental health, as it isn't often spoken about 'cause of the stigma.
I am myself bipolar w tendency towards depression and with big anxiety problems. And as you speak of these, people try to understand which is part of the problem as nobody who hasn't himself had mental issues, can't really understand them. If they could, then they would be acknowledged and understood. But then again it wouldn't then be a mental health problem.
If you haven't had a broken bone, you won't know how it is like. And more so on mental issues.
Speaking out and letting go of the shame and guilt one feels when, in my case I can't go out to the shop maybe. Or have to stop the bus and get out 'cause of my anxiety rising to I-Have-no-mouth-and-I-must-scream -point. If you can manage to let go from it, a lot of societal baggage every mental health patient feels is lighter.
Also, the first medical response is medication, which is insane and some of the medication the doctors wouldn't eat. And we don't know enough about the brain chemistry or the drugs, so they are often more of a placebo aid, or often more harmful than helpful.
To get to talk to someone, you have to do insane amount of work, which if you're down is near impossible and no funding for psychotherapy or such..
