Lin Manuel is a singular talent and a just a downright pure soul. Everything he does you know comes from the heart. He has absolutely gone out of his way to promote inclusivity in all of his projects. Is colorism real? Yes. Did In the Heights include afro latinos of all colors? Yes. It's representation might not be perfect but what is? It's still a step forward in the right direction. This movie did not deserve to be called out in this way when it is the one time latinos finally had to come together and celebrate each other.

I love the quote his writer said and it's the heart of why it seems like everyone is going at LMM a bit more than when it happens in other instances.
So many people adore and respect him that they feel that if they bring their concerns about his work to him, he'll actually acknowledge the criticism and try to work on making the best product in the future. Not because he is forced to do so, but because we all know he *wants* to do so.

It's about starting from the point of reference you know & fanning out to encompass everyone. LMM understands what it feels like to 'be not seen' & to be thought of as less capable. He is a person who 'walks the walk' so I imagine he will fan out to all the under-represented Latino Community Members in his future endeavors.

@@dee_dee_place I get what you're saying but...dark-skinned Latinas ppl are still Latinas. They're not just a sub-group...they ARE the group. You shouldn't have to "fan out" to cover them, b/c they aren't some other group of minorities outside of 'regular' Latinas. They ARE the regular Latinas. It's annoying to feel like just b/c you have darker skin and less Euro-centric features it makes you somehow less of a Latina or different from "ordinary" Latinas. Dark skinned Latinx representation shouldn't have to be subordinate to Euro-centric Latinx representation and "fanned out to." It should just be standard!

I haven't seen "In The Heights" yet. I did see "Hamilton". My niece played a documentary of the making of "Hamilton" the morning we were going to see it. It explained the reason different musical genres were used, which gave me a better understanding of what I was about to see. Washington & the beginning part of Burr was in jazz while the rest of the cast & the ending part of Burr was in hip hop. When I saw the musical, I didn't take note of what ethnicity the cast was, I took note of what they were saying & doing. I was floored by the energy the cast exuded through the whole musical, & I seriously learned some American History I wasn't taught in school. It was by far, THE BEST PERFORMANCE I HAVE EVER SEEN ON BROADWAY. Everyone involved in Hamilton's production should be proud of what they did... MULTI BRAVO, TO ALL!

Trevor please help share Ayah’s story as written on CNN. A 17 month old who requires the most expensive treatment in the world to save her life and she needs it before she turns 2 years old. We have raised 77% of the amount and requesting your help to spread awareness because time is of the essence for little Ayah 💗

Hi Trevor thank you for the great work you do in highlighting the injustices happening around the world. Please help us in sharing the story of @little.ayah who is 17 months and needs a drug and treatment that cost 2.4 million dollars. 77.3% has been raised. It really is an injustice because even if we raise the whole amount she still can not be treated in Denmark since she has type 2 spinal muscular atrophy and the government only approved it for type 1.

LMM does amazing work. And his generosity to listen to every voice, complaint and criticism with humility and acceptance is commendable. In my opinion, his work puts Latinos in the limelight and it’s a shame other Latinos can find away to detract from that. Latinos should be supportive of other Latinos. He wrote a play bc he wanted to see his characters represented.if you don’t see yourself represented, you are free to write your own play.

I was happy to see how receptive he was to the criticism. But I find it hard to believe it was an honest mistake/oversight. Happy to hear he has internalized the criticism and vowed to do better on future projects. Also, we can criticize Lin-Manual Miranda for lack of representation and love the path he is forging at the same time. As the saying goes, we can walk and chew gum at the same time.

When I worked at the General Motors plant Fleetwood Fisher Body Plant in on the Southwest side of Detroit, the workforce was about 20% Latinos. One day my COUSIN Faye Neal ( she worked in the body shop department. ) I worked on the 5th floor in the trim department. And Faye visited me on one of her breaks. And after her break was over and she returned to the body shop. One of my co- workers Victor Galindez, yes he had the same name as the Great Argentinian light heavyweight champion. Came to my job and straight up told me that Faye was too dark for me to date. He didn't know that Faye was my cousin and he ASSUMED that I was a fellow latino because of my name and looks. He was wrong on both accounts. Lmboooo
