      What is the acual belt size for Alternator 96-969-03k? Trying to get one from Napa . They keep give me the wrong size! 4 trips now to Napa ? Help

    • @jojobeansie3114
      @jojobeansie3114 4 года назад

      @@curtgar48 sorry I don't remember size wise. Your best quickest solution is call any carrier shop and ask them for size or better yet part number for a particular belt you need. They know them off the top of their head most times. I imagine Napa would have them stocked under part numbers as well. Keep in mind Carrier constantly updates and changes their parts #s. Its frustrating so if that parts number doesn't work for Napa ask carrier shop.

    This guy is spot on with this guiden. I got it done in 45 mins. (Notes) if your trucks body is in your way from sliding out pull up on the housing . My bottom bolt stripped couldn't loosen it from alternator. Untighten top and use a hammer and slightly tap towards you. If you dont have a pry bar do what I did. Take your extensions to your ratchets and put the all together . Pry and tighten its effortless keep your bolts organized as well .

    Just to add to this.
    It takes a duralast 15355 ( auto zone ) perfect fit.
    Also no need to take fan shroud off belt will squeeze between the shroud and fan.

    Really nice instructional video Jason. Your company should be proud of you both. Not only do you analyze your trips and loads well, but you save them money working on the truck and you care for the truck as if you owned it. I am certainly impressed! (Second) LOL.

      Jason, you do well on the mechanical, and all those little things you do really add up to save your company expense. And Heather, Yeah, but you wreck Jason's toys so you have to help. I am thinking you are the cam holder LOL. Like I said before, all kidding aside, you two put the "T" in team! I think you both can do anything you put your minds to do, I'm certainly impressed.

    If you want to take the v belt off more quickly you can slide it between the fan fins and its housing.

    Good video! Just wanted to add something to the last part of your video. The generator belt is easy to change and you don't need the special tool or to remove the top and bottom covers. I have changed mine with just the access covers removed. I guess if a person doesn't have experience with changing belts then they might want to have the tool. What I did was put the belt around the bottom pulley and get as much of the belt on the top pulley as I could. After doing that I pulled down on the belt causing the pulley to rotate and seating the belt. Job done!

    Very helpful video. To clarify some terminology: the thingy that puts tension on the belt is called an adjustable mounting bracket. And for the fan its fins or tines. Just sayinnnnn. I’ve been twisting wrenches for 40 yrs now. But great video! I have to change the alternator on my apu and this video helped with wrench size and the fan shroud.

    One important safety issue, the APU could start on any of the automatic features at any time. Fortunately there is a buzzer that sounds before the engine cranks to warn you to get your fingers out of the way. The buzzer is a service part, seldom happens, but it can fail. Save your fingers and unplug the 4 pin harness going to the APU control module before servicing the APU, whether change to oil, a belt, or anything else. And don't forget to reconnect when finished, or that driver control panel is going to be blank!

      IMPCO Technologies Canada thank you for commenting that is a very good point I did not add to the video. I did make sure to shut the auto start off before performing this but will use that four pin plug next time thank you for the tip

    Mr Jason that was fantastic. The detail was perfect. Do you use belt lubricant? The belts we keep in reserve or stored are lubricated every 90 days to keep its elasticity and workable. This method also allows them to be installed easier.
    Miss Heather and Mr Jason are the fantastic duo of expediting. BRAVO!

    Great job. Definitely learned something new. Does the generator count towards the weight of the front axle or the rear?

    • @modeverything9949
      @modeverything9949 8 лет назад +1

      GENERAL RED thank you very much. anything in the middle of the axles will ad weight to both. Depending on whether it's closer to the front or rear will determine how much weight it ads to that axle. The generator is 500lbs and it is slightly closer to the front, so it probably add 300 to the front and 200 to the rear.

    Squeaking or squealing belts is a sign that the belts are loose, if there is no cracks, fraying, or significant wear most of the time you can just tighten them up a bit more. The V-belts stretch over time and need to be manually tightened back up and is considered normal wear. This needs to be done EVERY PM, if you are getting it done and they are not tightening them back up take it somewhere else, saving a few bucks on a pm only to have it break down defeats the purpose of a proper PM, both TK and Carrier this is included with a standard PM for good reason. If there is no more room for adjustment then the belts lifespan has been reached and needs to be replaced. Stick with a TK or carrier branded belt too, yea i know they are very proud of their part prices but gates and other brands are not designed for the high tension required in an apu/reefer application and tend to fail with only a few hundred hours versus few thousand with TK/Carrier. Time is very valuable no sense doing it once every month or two versus a year or two.

    • @stanwright7575
      @stanwright7575 6 лет назад

      I was thinking the same thing. If the belt was in good shape there was plenty of adjustment left.

    • @lucrichard3662
      @lucrichard3662 6 лет назад

      You can tighten it by moving the alternator mounting but they dont need to be tightened every PM, only if its squealing.

  • @benjamingonzales4327
    @benjamingonzales4327 6 лет назад

    So I figured out how to adjust the generator belt on the apu there is a long bolt with a set of 2 nuts on either side of the mounting bracket that attaches the generator if you look closely at it you can back off the nuts and adjust the tension on the generator making it easy to take off the belt

    Hey guys got a question, when do you have to run the APU vs when the trucks inverter has enough watts, I am assuming it has one.
    As an example can you use the crock pot with out running the APU?
    Really appreciate what you guys do.

    • @modeverything9949
      @modeverything9949 8 лет назад +1

      David Young any time you are using high wattage items you must run generator. Microwave, hairdryer, crock pot, coffee maker, blender. Thing that can just run on inverter lights, Tv, PlayStation, small fan. The more things you use the faster the batteries drain.

    What is the belts acual belt size? Trying to get one from Napa 4 trips now. Gave them part # 96-969-03k and they gave me one to small because it’s to wide??

    • @TheCraftyTrucker

      Sorry not sure the exact size of belt. Maybe try the dealer locator for carrier. locator.ttdealers.carrier.com
      I’ve double checked and that is the right part number. Not sure why Napa can’t cross reference it.

      Maitrik Patel We've only had experience with the Carrier & Rig Master APUs. Best bet would be Carrier or Thermo King then Onan but good luck finding places to work on the Onans.
