Thank you nurses & doctors! My son was born 6 1/2 weeks premature & that was with 17 days of a broken water & bed rest before birth. He’s now 11 years old & taller than me, also very happy, kind & self sufficient ❤ as far as health, he wears glasses (when he wants) & has mild asthma. I am so thankful & happy to be his mother ❤

It takes special people to work in these conditions. They’ve been trained to deal with life and death of the most vulnerable humans.
Look what the Pandemic did to our Medical Staff. There are many that are still suffering from PTSD. The large amounts of death on a daily basis took a huge mental toll on them.
To top of all off, The world celebrated them one day as HERO’s and the next day they started firing them for not getting the vaccine. The medical staff that worked through the Pandemic had more resistance to the virus then any other people on the earth. They didn’t need the vaccine until other variants started popping up. Now that’s how really thank the hard working Medical staff! But this is for a different platform. Sorry I got off base here.

My heart absolutely broke for Alfie and his beautiful family. May they all be surrounded by Angels and the purest of love.
Poor baby Michael, I worry very much for his future. Children having children is a very sad epidemic. It’s heartbreaking because the only way of stopping this is, better education and eliminating poverty, that will never happen so it’s a viscous eternal circle.

The problem is when these young girls are raised without a lot of love, they go searching for it in the wrong way because they think doing it equals love and it just doesn’t. Michael’s mom has three now at the age of 21 and I hope that the next time she gets a boyfriend or feels like being loved, she uses birth control or she gets her tubes tied because it isn’t fair for these little babies. Girls like Michael’s mom that are running in a vicious circle all the time, don’t want to be given any advice or being told that maybe they should use birth control . It seems like the new generation doesn’t learn from the old one. It just seems they all have the same attitude, some stubbornness that goes on concerning how they live their lives. They only make their lives harder with every child that they add along the way. The sad thing about it is that when these young girls start doing this, it’s taxing on the system because the government now is bringing up not only the three children that she has but they’re also bringing her up as well because she’s just so young. I find the whole situation sad.

I was born at 28 weeks due to my mother’s Graves’ disease attacking us both. Im really grateful for my mother, but i can tell me being premature really had an impact on her bond with me and i can still feel a disconnect to this day. But I don’t blame her for it, she’s the best mother i could ask for.

I was also born at 28 wks and spent 6 wks in the nicu. My relationship with my mother has never been particularly nurturing. It was the 80s, so it wasn't talked about much, but I believe she struggled with postpartum depression and stress as my sister is only a year and a half older and was still in diapers. Mom said when my grandparents came over to "help" it was more like entertaining guests because they didn't change diapers, help with cleaning chores, cook or even clean up after themselves. You know, the common stuff she really needed help with.
Before I was born she had been in the hospital most of the day trying to stop labor, and I'm sure she spent a lot of that time mentally preparing herself to lose me. She didn't even think of names until the day after I was born. That would definitely have a big impact on bonding. She didn't get to hold me or hardly see me until a few days after I was born. It was Mother's Day yet she told my dad to hold me first. Back then the benefits of skin to skin contact, especially for premies, wasn't known. I spent 6 wks almost exclusively in an isolette. Of course that would also limit bonding. It would be unfair to blame or punish her for that, though.

Why concern yourself with being in a relationship when you have so many children by so many fathers? It would stand to reason the mother will soon be pregnant again. Is there no intervention to help change this thinking that you must have a man? Those children need their mother’s undivided attention.

But I do agree Woman should have better management of their reproductive systems when their living in a financial bind. I suppose! That’s not to say poor people shouldn’t be able to have children though. Maybe we don’t know enough about her situation. Maybe she never planned to deliver so far away from home, or expect her car to break down. One never knows what to plan for in the future of 9 months. You can’t plan for every mishap.

I was born 6 weeks early in a rural hospital after my mom had a premature rupture. She was in labor for 3 days. I was born as the doctors were preparing for a c-section. I wasn’t breathing well so I was air lifted a larger hospital almost immediately. I spent 11 weeks in the nicu because I was smaller than I should’ve been, but the helicopter ride shook the fluid out of my lungs! My first word was helicopter, and now I’m training to be a flight nurse! Thankfully I only have mild asthma now as a complication from being a preemie. I love all the wonderful doctors, nurses, and staff that took care of me and my parents. I hope to one day be able to give the same comfort and care to another family in need.

When a mom has 2 other children at home and depending on if Mom has transportation or not. Truly impacts there ability to avail themselves to the hospital. I can see how it would be easy to let the hospital lag behind. The baby will get what he or she needs.
I missed the part she does have to take Public transportation. Then knowing she would have too drag 2 children along with her to see her baby in a NICU, would be incredibly difficult! Assuming she could bring the 2 children into the NICU once she arrives. I’m almost certain she probably has Momma Blues as well. It’s no wonder she hasn’t been there to see her baby very often. What a horrible situation for any mother to be put in. I wonder if the Hospital has any resources to help in a situation like that? That baby needs the love and touch of his Mom and the Mom needs to be able to Love and touch her newborn baby. That’s a predicament! If such resources exist, I would hope and expect the hospital would reach out to Mom and let her know what’s available.

I was an extreme preemie! I was 2 pounds at 26 weeks (14 weeks early). I have Level 2 ASD/Asperger's (unsure whether it was due to the brain damage from the circumstances of my birth, it very well could have been genetic considering I have 4 family members who are diagnosed or are likely on the spectrum), mild cerebral palsy, and very mild epilepsy (the latter two have been identified as directly due to brain damage I experienced when I was born). I also have a ton of physical/mental health conditions, many of which are associated with my developmental disabilities, but overall I am very, very lucky and very high functioning considering my birth circumstances. I have great parents and they really helped me through life! Preemies often don't end up as lucky as I did, but I am living proof that preemies can live good lives sometimes with very few medical complications (or even if they have them, they can still live with their disabilities)!
