Wow... Marty and the entire band was smokin'! Larry Marrs is awesome on that Bass. Ray Flacke was a huge influence on my playing. I got to meet him and steel guitarist Bruce Bouton at Six Flags in St. Louis, MO. They were touring with Ricky Skaggs about the time 'Highway 40 Blues' was a hit for Ricky. Ray is awesome and he doesn't get the credit he deserves for starting a whole new style of Tele picking.
I met Ray Flacke and sat down and had a drink with him at a small bar in Massachusetts many years ago. I was in another band playing in the same club that day. Charming fellow, besides being a monster guitar player. I had taken some photos of him, which he incidentally needed for some promo stuff. He was a hero of mine, as we were doing some Skaggs tunes in our band at the time. Phenomenal player.
I'm going to put my ignorance out there on display for everyone to read by saying that I sadly have never heard of Ray Flacke. Now that I have I am a massive fan, that cat tears it up.I will be looking up everything he has done.
Ray is one hell of a picker & grinner and Larry Marrs on Bass. love the Tele picking first rate but as a guitar player myself ,if I could I'd have Larry Marrs playing bass any day of the week.
I love Marty Stuart because he is first and foremost a humble lover of music. He can't take his eyes off Ray Flacke's guitar playing or hide his appreciation of what he's seeing.
@@dale116dot7 At the end there he should have pointed to his highest frets and said "That's all I've got!" (Reference to Marty's "Mando Rip" solo piece.)

I haven't gotten thinner though. Suit jacket has remained a 40R and fits still. But what about that telecaster! Awesome awesome playing.

Marty has been playing professionally since he was about12 or13. I’ve never seen anyone else who loves country and bluegrass music like he does. Investigate and listen to him.....you’ll be hooked for life.
He always has been. He used to come and sit in with the band I was in on our Sunday lunchtime gigs in west London back in the early '70s. This was a while before he moved to Nashville and he was a blindingly good player even then.
I saw him with Meal Ticket, Steve Simpson & co, in a Shepherds Bush pub in the 70s and my jaw dropped, I'd thought Albert Lee was the only clawpickin' shitkicker at this level in the UK. He finished the evening by smashing a chair over a guys head for trying it on with his girlfriend while he was on stage, proper Texas roadhouse stuff, an unforgettable night.
Raymond James Flacke is a country guitar session player of exceptional value. ruclips.net/video/ScAgYdrN67w/видео.html *YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE* Guitar solo version in the style of *Johnny💘Cash*
I had the great pleasure of seeing this iteration of Marty's band in Lebanon Pa then Columbus Ohio in either late 90 or early 91. I can confirm Larry Marrs was indeed the' King of Hillbilly Bass' and that Ray Flacke just nailed everything he played. Can't remember the drummer's name but he was off the graph and of course what can one say about that hasn't already been said about Marty? What I remember most was in Columbus they played the best cover of 'Who Will The Next Fool Be' I've ever heard and Ray and Marty soloed like angels. That show might have been the best concert I've ever seen. Finally, I can't recommend 'Untitled Island' enough for its blistering Tele virtuosity and 'Songs Without Words' for its awesome acoustic vibe.
Ray Flacke doesn't have the polish and speed of Brent Mason as well as a few other modern guys that could probably pick circles around him But there is something about his playing that makes him my #1 favorite country guitarist. He's got a lot of taste and I love how he executes his double stops. He's a bit easier to emulate then someone like Brent Mason. Although I did buy his star licks video back in the 80's and learned all his licks. I've got instructional videos from Brent Mason, Bryan Sutton, Albert Lee, Tony Rice among others and I have to say that Ray Flacke is the best teacher of all of them. He really knows how to break down his style and teach it in an understandable way.
Ray In my opinion is one of the best Telly players on the planet....! He’s a heckuva nice guy also I got a chance to drink beer with him at the Jack Daniels bar at the Opryland hotel the night before Ricky Skaggs was hosting the show got a chance to talk to him and Charlie Daniels, and get autographs....!
My band opened for Marty BEFORE hillbiily rock went through the roof got to hang with Ray and we've kept in touch over the years . Great picker and teacher and no he doesn'i have extra fingers just fast ones and A LOT of baby powder to slick up the neck
Kevin Murphy, I hope that's cornstarch-based baby powder and not talcum-based baby powder, because talc almost invariably contains asbestos. Great for preventing the fingerboard from catchin' fire when yer playin' hot, perhaps, but not so good for your lungs.
@@rockinredneck57 I understand that. It's just that when I heard this I seemed to immediately recall 'Matchbox.' That rarely happens with the other songs. Either way, Ray is a monster player. And that was my main point. Blew me away watching him play on this!

Saw Ray playing with a band called Meal Ticket back in the seventies, he was a great guitarist.
Also saw him waith "Prairy Oyster" in the '70's
Ray Flacke really does deserve greater recognition for showing so many of us how it's done.
He really cooked on Ricky Skaggs' records in the early 80's!
Yes he does! Such a bad ass
No doubt
To this day him and Ritchie Blackmore are the best and most memorable guitarists I've seen live. Seen a lot of the greats from a lot of styles/genres.

Marty’s my favorite musician! ❤ Great video! Thank you for posting it! 😊 I like how he highlights how well other’s play, too!🎉🎉
Ray Flacke one of the absolute greatest ever....in my humble opinion....
I agree. Ricky Skaggs was a fool to let him go.
The magic of the Telecaster!!!

Marty is a world class picker himself, but yeah, he is always surrounding himself with extraordinary talent.
A musician without an ego.
I guess that this is before he hooked up with Kenny Vaughan...
Ray Flacke. Great guitarist. And the bass player ain’t all bad either!
Larry Marrs. He’s also great on harmony vocals.

I heard Marty‘s hair has its own Tennessee area code… it‘s even bigger than his and Ray’s guitar playing talent combined.
I think Ray has a few extra fingers.

My guess is that the bass player now regrets his getup for that there show.

Great playing and a very good mix. Good stuff.
First time I have seen a Spector bass in that setting! And of course it sounds great and that guy is kicking ass on it!
It seems low end in a mix.. as a bass player it does not seem like a stretch other than visually.
