Such a lovely project! Thank you. My dog Bob goes to work with me too. He is the " intelligent" conversation I engage in during the day.
😂 Sometimes the only person I see all day is Skylar, she is the workshop VIP
Thank you for the free pdf, it well appreciated.
You are welcome 👍
Thanks again for the video. I liked the leather and thread color for needle holder. I would like to see you recover a book at some time. Form across the pond thanks again.
Love the pup too
She's my fur baby 🐶
Thanks a lot for this video and the pattern! I've just made the needle case and it went without a hitch. Next one will get a snap closure, this time I added some leather lace at the end.
This project was so much more fun than I thought it would be, and a bit more challenging than I thought at first. It turned out beautiful. It's for my daughter for Christmas. She is into embroidery . Also, in all my years working with leather, I had never heard of an edger :(. When I saw you use it, I had to run out and buy one (Amazon). It is an amazing tool. Really gives a professional touch. I wanted to display my finished product, but can't figure out how to so this. Thanks so much for this video. My daughter is really going to like her needle case.
Hi Peter, great to hear that you liked this project. I'm sure your daughter will love it 🙂
Will make a perfect present for my daughter
Hi Jo. Looks great. Going to try myself 😉
Another great video! Thank you!!!
Thank you 😁
As I have said before U R VERY GOOD young lady. Instead of using a hammer I use several clamps I have made, and an 0ld glass door nob. ✝️⚾🙃
Thanks for your work.👍
Thank you 🙂
Thank you
Tha was very helpful, what glue do you recomend?
Thanks Paul 🙂 I use bostik 6092 contact adhesive for the majority of my work but most contact adhesives work well. I got my bostik from here: www.leatherandgrindery.com/bostik-adhesive-6092
The ruler she is using is a drafting scale. They come in various markings for engineering/architecture, in plastic or metal. The downside is they can easily slide if any lateral pressure is put on them by the knife. I use them more for marking than cutting. For cutting, I use cork-backed aluminum or steel rules.
That's something I never thought about.
Thank you for this latest video. Please would you tell me what sized gap is your Creaser set to? I prefer to use good quality tools as well. They feel nice to use, don't they? Have fun!
Hiya, it's roughly 1/16" and then my stitching line is 1/8"
Well, dammit. Fine then, I guess you CAN be my favorite leather channel. Sigh. 😀
What about burnishing the edges? Or is that the same as edge staining and then polishing?
Yeah that's the same thing 👍
Loooooooove this. Perfect beginner/stitching practice for me and something functional when completed. Yay. Thank you! And biiig thank you for including the free pattern for us.
Question:
How do we determine thread & needle size, appropriate to the leather weight/size we are using for a project?
Is there a general rule? or range? for needle sizes/thread sizes/leather weight/size?
I suppose thonging chisel or pricking iron size will also play a role?
I just received a sample card of thread and there are about a zillion sizes to choose from. Ok, slight exaggeration but there are a lot!
If you could shed some light on this topic it would be most helpful!
Many thanks for your vids. So informative and a joy to watch.
P.S. Your saddle stitch tutorial is the best on the internet hands down!!!!!!
Hey Brenda, glad to hear you like the video 👍 for me, the thread weight is based on stitch mark size so for stitching in 7 stitches per inch I use no 2 saddlers harness needles and threads that are around 0.6-0.8mm so this could be tkt8 machine thread or 3/18 and 4/18 linen thread. Hope that makes sense..... I am planning on doing a video on it soon 👍
Very nice. Thank you for sharing. What grit sandpaper do you use? It looks like 60 or 100 grit.
I'm not 100% sure but it's quite coarse
Please could you show the whole wood holder you are using when you stitch the leather? And eventually put a link or something because I can't find it... Tanks 🙂
I have a whole video dedicated to all my tools that I use which goes over the clams used to hold the leather
@@JHLeather oh really? Cool! I searched in your channel and watched one but you were not talking about that leather clamp
Website down. Thank you for the tutorial.
What stitching chisel are you using and do you have a link where i can purchase?
Hello, yes I am currently working on a new website. I got these pricking irons from Abbey England. www.abbeyengland.com/abbey-pricking-iron-set-518.html
Jo
Thanks so much. I’ve been enjoying your videos. Could you tell me what the name of your ruler is?
Glad you like the videos 😁 it's a Maun safety ruler, very handy.
J.H.Leather , Thanks, I just ordered one. Too bad they don’t sell those in the states. I also wished they let you put pix in the comments. I made the needle case today. I actually really needed one. It’s not as nice as yours, but it only took about 90 minutes. I made it out of pretty light goatskin. Since the goatskin stretches a bit and won’t hold the needles taught, I put a couple of slits in the flap and can close the case with a little leather thong. Thanks again.
@@JSGilbert thats great!
This is lovely 💕. I think I want to make one for myself. Thanks 🙏🏼. One question 👆🏼where can I find a ruler/straight edge like the one you used while cutting? Seems a good choice rather than a flat ruler to keep knives/ sharp edges from cutting my fingers 🖖🏼
I got it from Abbey England, its a Maun safety ruler if your not in the UK. Its so handy for cutting things 👌
Search for Maun safety ruler at axminster.co.uk and you will find 🙂
J.H.Leather thanks. I found one in EBay 😊
Thank you for the videos, very informative and helpful. Nice simple project. I will make a few of these for practice. I happened to see a couple pictures of you. One receiving an award from Princess Anne. It was a pleasant surprise to see you. You are quite good looking.
😂
Hi, may i know where you get the needles from?
Hiya, I get my needles from Abbey England.
Watching your videos makes me realize just how basic my skills are lol.
Keep practising and you will get there 🙂
Why not bonefold the top flap too?
You can do and you can also tap it with a hammer
прекрасная работа,но клапан будет открываться,его нужно молотком простучать😉
