- When I first saw this stitch ("Norvegese" stitch), I scoured the internet to find a good tutorial so I could try it. Long story short, I didn't find one! Since I always like to make the videos I wish I had found, here you go!
You'll need to be up to speed on the saddle stitch technique, so definitely check out my detailed saddle stitch video if you haven't already! • How to Hand Stitch Lea...
The leather in this wallet is the beautiful Wickett & Craig buck brown traditional harness leather in 3-4oz. You can find small pieces or a whole hide here at Buckle Guy: bit.ly/3ngBR8y (Buckle Guy is an affiliate partner).
Have fun with this one! Happy Crafting, Friends!

That plexiglass demo is the best visual aid I’ve ever seen on RUclips! I look back over my struggles to get a nice clean saddle stitch, and I’m certain I could have avoided all of that if I’d seen that a year ago! I’d be surprised if we don’t see that on many many other channels now soon. Thanks and well done
Thank you for mentioning that! I personally love when a process is made as crystal clear as possible (pun sort of intended!). I’m am so glad this way of teaching connects with you. Thanks so much for your support! -Tanner
I agree the plexiglass demo is the best way i've ever seen to explain the stiching process. You can see where everything is going. Brilliant tutorial.
Noted that immediately. Good teaching tool.
I agree on the demo. I hope this continues to show neato stitches. The Italians for years have been using this stitch and as they say, it's much to do about nothing reallly. It's cool to see someone pick up on that as a decorative saddle stitch which can be quite cool.
@@ClaridgeLeather and not only that, but you could do that stitch on both sides, ending might get a little bulky, and i haven’t finished watching the video before commenting (big no-no).
So, it's a saddle stitch *through* a saddle stitch?
Cool!
💚🐇🐴💚
I wanted to put a nice border on my journal and this is just the thing. Thanks for the video.
I just changed my wallet design. I'll use this stitch with black thread (on black leather) and red thread for the accent.
*_Your teaching technique is spot on. The best tutorials I've seen._*
I've got a 50.00 dollar starter kit coming from Hobby Lobby so I've decided to sub to you as my coach and confidant regarding my new hobby of leather working. I'm retired and wanted to keep my hands and my mind busy, thought this would be one of a couple two three hobby's I would pick up on and use for gift making. I think they mean more when you put your time, love and effort into them for a gift.
Wow, that is awesome to hear. I think this is the PERFECT hobby for making very unique and satisfying gifts (and things to keep)! Congratulations on taking the plunge! I am so grateful to have you “on board” here, and I really hope you feel well-served by my content. Keep in touch! -Tanner
Even the shots of you stitching the leather are clear and concise, but the plexiglass demo is a winner. Thank you.
Now do it with six needles with the weave on both sides creating a double norvegese stich!
I have had some people send pictures of projects they’ve made doing that! Very cool! Cheers!
I hope you are half as nice in real life. Loving these videos. Thanks!
Thanks, Nate! You’d have to check with my wife about that one… 😀I am so glad to hear you’re enjoying the videos! Thanks for watching! More on the way… 👍

Yes!! 🥁 I knew there would be somebody else out there!! 😀 Thank you!
@@ClaridgeLeather I was a lead singing drummer in a rock cover band for 20 years. I miss it, but I don’t miss carrying all of our gear! Haha.
😂 That is SO much work!! Very cool!
Thank you Tanner for sharing your tips with the leather community, beautiful stitching idea. Very well explained. Can't wait for the next video. Family guy's rule, great work.
Thanks for sharing this Norvegese Stiches in step by step & clear explaination.
Btw, you have a really friendly expression 🤝
You are so welcome! Thank you! Nice to *meet* you! 🤝
Best video for the Norwegian stitching on the internet
That's pretty awesome. For those of us who do not speak Italian, "Norvegese" is just the Italian word for "Norwegian". I'll be using this stitch, but just call it "Norwegian" stitching.
that is a really neat stitch. thank you for sharing
Thanks so long from Culiacán México...you'll go to the heaven with all and your snickers 😎
Sweet! Thanks
You’re welcome, Mike! Have fun!
OOH!! oh yea I’m definitely trying this
Never seen that decorative stitch before.getting ready to start a hip bag tomorrow that should match her theme well. Thanks , should be called the chain ,looks just like one.lol
I just found you...I have been waiting to learn this stitch technique for....8 years😳 lol. Thanks for the tutorial
The presentation and plexiglass visual aid simply the best!!
I'm so glad I found this video, thank you!
I’m glad you found itit too, Cruz! Thanks for watching!
That will be my first stitch when I buy leather amazing
You’re pretty mellow for drummer 🍻😎 Interesting stitch, can’t wait to try it
Ha ha... maybe that’s why I don’t feel the need to take too many solos. Thanks for watching!!
That's cool man. I appreciate your giant bit of plastic to explain this stuff. way better than the channels that only show it on the leather.
I am such a visual learner ! So, I really do appreciate how you took the time and effort to make the oversized plexiglass to demonstrate . TTHANK YOU!
Very helpful, thanks.
Thx 4 showing!
Clever way.Good job.
If you really want to kick up your "drum solo" you should try weaving a "blue thread" through both sides. That way on a wallet youll have a fancy stitch on the front and back. When I try this I think I'll use a round hole stitching chisel since it's easier to sew through and the stitch covers up the holes anyway... Cool tip, thanks.
Yeah, I’ve never tried that! Awesome idea! Have fun!
I saw a very short video some years back calling this the spinning stitch. It was only a minute and change long, but was done on a shoe that looked pretty good. I'm glad YT put this up on my home page!!
That’s awesome to hear! I haven’t heard that name for it, but I have definitely seen it on shoe welts. Thank you for watching! -Tanner
That was interesting. I never thought of embellishing the saddle stitch, but it does look good.
Yeah, it’s pretty neat, huh? I’ve seen some very cool shoe welts with this stitch. Have fun!
I had forgotten about this stitch. Thanks for the reminder.
Really good, two color would be very nice touch
This is tremendous! I’ve been wanting to do a decorative stitch on leather but couldn’t figure it out. Beautiful work!
Awesome, Christine! I hope you enjoy giving it a try!!
That's really cool. Just add a little pop every now and then
Excellent, thanks!
That was great, thank you.
Very classy great video and a clever and incredible tutorial with the plexiglass.
The plexiglass teaching tool is an awesome idea! 👍👍👍
Thank you, John!
Waiting for my leather to come in. Just starting leather crafting. Thank you sir for these.
Thanks for this video I'm kicking myself not even thinking of doing something like that
Have fun with it! Thanks for watching, Justin. Glad you’re here! -Tanner
Wowwwe! Beautiful!😍
Thank you, Tracey! ☺️
Thanks that was cool. I'm just starting out. Been doing it about a year and every little tidbit helps.
Love this stitch! Can’t wait to try it out on some coasters I’m making.
THANKS FOR THE INFORMATIVE VIDEO!
Perfect project for that stitch
@@nateand3 Thank you.
I must say, I have watched many leather working video, some better then others for teaching technics but you are an amazing teacher of technics. I’m very appreciative! Love your work and designs. Thank you
Nice stitch, thank you for sharing!
Awesome technique
Very nice tutorial. Thank you.
You are welcome, thank you for watching!
Looks cool thanks, hope I don't get confused at the last
I wish you could do a video on how to apply different buttons and snaps
What would be interesting is to add another thread on the “backside” and essentially do a double chain. One on the front and one on the back. I think I might try a test piece whenever I’m feeling funky.
I was thinking the same, I think it would look great!
Very nıce job welldone
thanks for this decorative saddle stitch. The famous Italian shoe makers and many euro shoe makers in general use the stitch. Even the Japanese and Korean and Chinese Shoemakers are using it. I may even use it on a pair of boots. Such fun!! The demo was awesome keep using the plexiglass to helpf folks. Old people like me are enjoying your channel.
So nice to hear from you, and really glad you’re enjoying the videos!! I have a Bulgarian friend who makes shoes and he certainly uses this technique- very cool! Cheers from Montana! Thanks for your kind words! -Tanner
Hi friend, thank you for teaching about this technical, very well explainned. I love your work site and your tools you shuld talk us about it. Regards since Colombia South America.

Right on, Jaco! Have fun!!
Awesomely presented! Bravo!
Great technique and demonstration‼️
cool stitch
Nice one ! Definitely will try.
Thanks, Serge! Have fun!
Awesome thanks 👍
Looks like something to use on the brim of a hat for a little extra color.
That would be cool!!
More decorative than functional, but very cool nonetheless! Thanks for sharing this!
This is just amazing and beautiful.
I'm a tester by trade so I'll be trying this on both sides, of course 🤣
Same
Like Bagram D the plexiglass is the coolest visual aid ever well I'm of to my workshop to try this out. Thank you for a brilliant new look on the saddle stitch.
Hey Tanner brilliant idea it looks awsome cheers boet
Really nice looking stitch. New one on me!!! Thanks!
Thanks for sharing that
Tried, looks amazing, had a bit of a struggle with the ends:).
Thanks man!
I definitely didn’t nail it on my first one... have fun! Thanks for watching, and good job trying it!!
That's so cool! So you're sort of saddle stitching through the top side of your saddle stitch! Except now you get to see it in profile instead of top-down...
What a great way to describe it! Thank you for watching!
Outstanding .. thank man
It is my pleasure! Thank you for watching! -Tanner
Very cool bud! I am definitely going to try this stitch this week on something!
Thanks, Ethan! I loved your pallet video on Instagram today!! You’re awesome.
@@ClaridgeLeather Thank you so much bud! I appreciate that a lot!
Thanks I love it

The perpendicular double saddle stitch
Wow nice
Got a tote I'm gonna get started this weekend going to try that stitching around the top
Sweet! That will be a labor of love, for sure!!
Thankyou for Beautiful style. Pls letu know about how to close the stylized stitch on non ooen ends🙏🏽
Just found this channel, this was the first video i have watched. I already have a project that this technique will work on. Thanks for making it crystal clear. Subscribed!!
Thats very cool, im going to try that. Thanks.
Awesome! Have fun! Thanks for watching, Daniel!
This is awesome. I'm making myself a bag and I had trouble choosing between two thread types, but with this I can use both and have a really nice accent colour
A very cool stitch in the right situation! Your channel was namechecked in a Reddit post from somebody who learned this stitch from your channel, and I'm glad I followed the reference. You have a great teaching style.
Hey Cam! Welcome! So glad you’re here! I am not on Reddit (😬) but it’s awesome to hear that you found me through a post there! I appreciate your kind words. -Tanner
Thanks.
I just found your channel and this is an awesome decorative stitching technique. I can't wait to try it! That plexiglass demonstration is great too!
Cool! I’m so glad you’re here! Welcome! I’m always interested to know what type of content interests you most. Have fun with this stitch, and be in touch! -Tanner
Your ability to instruct is top rate. This new stitch however (and only my opinion) looks just to cluttered. Kudos on the invention though. PLEASE keep your videos coming. Love the plexiglass for the demos. 👍👍👍👍
David, thank you so much for your kind words! SO glad you have found some value in these videos. I definitely hear you on the “cluttered” look of this stitch. I use it sparingly (in fact, only on these wallets), but I have had lots of questions about it over the years, so I thought I’d walk through the process. I do like to keep things clean and simple, generally!! Thank you so much for watching!
Very valuable demo, Love that beautiful stitch, much more decorative, and makes a change with a more creative and decorative perspective. Thanks a lot for sharing this.
Thanks, Hugo! I appreciate that! I think it’s fun to learn simple things like this that can add a lot to our work!
Very nice!
Thank you, Nathaniel! Have a great day!
You can also weave in the appearance of a three strand flat braid in a similar fashion, although I haven't done that in years.
This chain stitch appearance I like a little more though. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome stitch. And I can't see why you couldn't do it on both sides
Excelente vídeo! Mostrando no paracord tudo fica mais fácil! Estou começando a trabalhar com couro e sua ideia foi uma grande inspiração.
That's a great accent stitch. I tried it on a pencil holder and it looks sharp. I can't see doing anything too long, but patience ain't my strong suit anyway. Great video!
I love that stitch! Couldn’t you use the loop thread on both sides, to get the cool effect on the back too!🐝🤗❤️
Love the wallet design, and the stitch is just beautiful!!! Where can we buy your items?
