I just found out about needle cases, and I stumbled across your video. You give so many helpful tips, especially about turning fabric right side out. I have always struggled with this process because I did it incorrectly. Thanks to you, turning fabric out will be easier for me. This looks a lovely little simple project. Definitely going to make one. I think I might cut my felt with my zig zag scissors to make the edges look pretty.

What a great tutorial! Lots of great general tips too, thanks a lot! Question about the pages of the book: can I use something other than felt? Felt is the one thing I do not have in my stash of scraps 🙄
Thank you for your kind comments. I’ve only ever used felt but I think as long as the fabric doesn’t fray and your needles can be inserted easily it shouldn’t be a problem, definitely worth trying out some from your stash.
Do you have flannel? That works. You can use regular cotton fabric if that’s what you have. You might pink the edges to discourage fraying!

Thank you so much for making this tutorial!! I've been needing something to keep all my needles in one place! Can I ask what weight of interfacing you use here? Would a lightweight or midweight interfacing work best for this project? I'm still really new to sewing and learning about interfacing
These are really great to make as gifts too. The weight of interfacing is dependent on what weight fabric you use and how stiff you’d like the finish to be. The main purpose of interfacing is to strengthen or stabilise your fabric, it will add strength where you are making buttonholes or give a crisp finish to a collar but it will also stop loose weave fabrics from distorting while sewing. Hope that explains a little more. We’d love to see some of your makes!

What is the name of the tool you use to feed rhe material under the needle? That is such a great idea!
It’s a Tailors awl, very useful tool but anything pointed would help.
I use a screw driver for this purpose. Works very well! 👍🏻
Another helpful video - thanks. Can I just ask - why do you lengthen your stitch for top stitching - is that a personal preference or is there a particular reason for doing so? Thanks.
With a longer stitch it's slightly easier to go in a straight line, it shows the thread up more too. Have a play with stitch lengths to see the difference and you can then decide what you like best.

I've never worked with interfacing or wadding. How do you get it to stick to the outer fabric? Is it self-adhesive, or did you use iron make it stick?
You can get sew in or iron on interfacing. I’ve used iron on, much easier as it stays in place. There’s either a shiny or bumpy side which is the glue so make sure that this side faces the back of the fabric. Take care that the iron isn’t too hot as it can shrivel the interfacing.

Do you not fill a need to label the needles by size or manufacturer? Then why not just use a commercial needle box or case or holder? What is the value of this over commercial needle boxes?
It’s a personal choice. We try to find simple, useful sewing projects for beginners. It’s all about building your sewing knowledge.
