@@armedreptile7889 they may work in some, but probably not most. With 5.56 AK’s, it seems there are two predominant widths (not counting things like Galils which are their own thing); there are the wider AK47 profile mags and the narrower AK74 profile. From what I gather, rifles made for the latter are most common these days. The Zastava mags are the wider variety and don’t even come close to fitting in something like a Pioneer (nor other rifles with the 74 profile). There is more interchangeability in the other direction, though. Of course one has to also consider fitting doesn’t necessarily mean working reliably.
I also have a Pioneer Sporter and tried both Promag 5.56 mags in it. The non steel lined WASR ones would lock in but I absolutely could not charge with significant leverage or using a rubber mallet. I returned both of them. For the steel lined versions they locked up but very tightly and I can see material coming off of the sides. Otherwise I can actually charge sometimes it takes a bit of effort but it’s durable. Do you also have issues charging with those promags?
I have not run into the same problem with the steel-lined ProMag (I just had to do a little filing on the rear corner for the mag to clear the center pin in the receiver so that the mag would even insert). I did have your issue with one of the all-polymer ProMags (but not others, goes to show their consistency). As I recall, the issue was the very bottom of the bolt carrier wasn’t clearing that notch at the very back of the magazine between the feed lips. Filing some additional relief in the magazine seemed to fix it.
What other 5.56 AK do you have? I have a M90 and use the Zastava mags and bought some AC Unity(?) from PSA (Same mags they the 100 series guns ship with)
Very informative video, it's a shame they don't make metal mags like the Zastava Zpap85 mags which are awesome and work in the M90.
Will the m85 mags work with non Serbian 5.56s?
@armedreptile7889 that's a very good question, I've not seen them tested in a Pioneer ak.
Yeah those are built like tanks, I have a bunch for my M90.

@@hobofactory very cool, I love them!

Of course and even better solution is probably to just use better mags lol
@@hobofactory I wonder if the AC Unity AK-19 mags will work in this AK?
@@PlazmaZ5 unfortunately I don’t know, haven’t tried that one.
@@hobofactory Can you show me where and how much filing you did?

I also have an M90 and a Galil (if that counts). For the M90 I really like the steel Zastava mags but have been curious about the PSA option.
Looks kinda flimsy
Yeah, I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised but I guess sometimes you really can judge a book by its cover.
