What kinda truck is that and what's under the hood? Awesome video! Love the jake and the turbo! and to throw in my two cents on the smell thing you guys were commenting on below, the smell of fresh cut pine and diesel smoke is the best smell in the world hands down!
thanks for the compliment cooter. Well that's a loaded question, but I think that its cause everybody is hauling down the road farther now and the woods access is better. Macks always did good off road but they ride rough and don't get down the road very fast. In our experiences by the time you make a million miles on one the body is pretty much shook off the truck. but I still respect them though my first truck was a good ole R model...
That Jake reminds me of my gramps Paystar 5000, had a little 350 Cummins in it but you'd rattle windows a half mile away when you flicked the switch, I still don't hear so hot out of my right ear, lol. I here you about the Mack's though, loved the R model trucks, but mack went to hell in a hand basket when volvo bought em and the put out the Granite's, the boss gave me a brandy new one, drove it two days and traded him the keys for my old '97 R, you could dump a load on a side hill with one of the front tires two feet in the air with out flipping, the granite felt like she was gonna roll when you were getting loaded
I know the lighter a truck is the more you can hual but what are you gaining when a triaxle net weight isa few hundred pounds off the weight of the R model wheelers
Yep I do a lot of that. Does any of this lumber go to Stella? I haul out of there several times a year, not too bad just tight as hell back there with 65' feet of equipment on those back roads.
Starting at 7:15 how does it work exactly with the jakes coming on inbetween shifts? Is there some magic to doing this like you did or is it just a natural occurrence when jakes are on still whilst upshifting?:)
What part of the country is this? Do you get any snow or winter conditions there? I learned to drive hauling logs in Northern BC. Since then I've hauled a lot of different commodities, but logging is always close to my heart.
Diesel fuel and fresh cut wood are my two absolute favorite smells I have always wondered what it is like on a logging site because I've never been on one also I'm totally blind so I'll probably never get to find out unless I hitch a ride with someone but anyway I have quite a big fleet of toy trucks and most of them are 1/16 scale I have a logging truck with the crane I have a grapple loader and a mobile log splitter which I made myself I used an old antique 1930s toy flatbed that someone found for me and I rigged a log splitter to the top of it and it now it looks like it is part of the truck the set that had the log splitter in it had it as a standalone and the logs that came with that you can actually split them in half it's pretty neat also I apologize if certain parts of my speech get scattered sometimes because I have to use a dictation feature on the device that I use
Thats one part of logging i always enjoyed, hauling wood to the mill. Well it doesnt take long to realize it is also a little bit easier on your body too. lol, Except for one season, see im from central New Hampshire, and hauling wood in the winter, yeah thats just not so much fun ... lol
I know the point of the video is the long pull and engine noise but where in the hell do you keep finding this big timber east of the mississippi and can i have some?
verteup Burnett County Wisconsin. I beg to differ. Getting into eastern Wisconsin the timber gets a lot better. Question my parents why we lived here? Most of my cutting done with 20 inch bar. a lot of it done with 16 inch.
Yeah what it does is cracks the exhaust valves open on the engine so the resistance of the motor turning acts as a driveline break to help hold the load back. It runs on a switch on the dash you just flick it on when you need it
you should see ice road truckers, when they drive, they use the jake break when going downhill. it makes the engine slow down without having to use the brakes. very handy indeed
You all ever around Ky give us a holler like to come spend a day with ya. Wade you should do some kind of contest for someone too win a trip out too the woods and spend the day with you and stevveyy
Stop cussing the FATHER ,ONE DSY YOULL REGREAT YOUR LACK OF RESPECT AND YOUR LACK OF FAITH !! JUST SAYING ,YOU SEEM LIKE A GOOD GUY AND ALL BUT CLOSE ONLY COUNTS IN HORSESHOES AND HAND GRENADES LOL AGSIN IM JUST SAYING BTOTHER !
That sound never gets old!
Great video. There is nothing quite like the sound of a diesel under load with the turbo spinning and smell the of oil, diesel and trees in the air.
Haha I tell you the thing I remembered most as a kid coming out to visit in the woods was the smell... Always loved the smell and the atmosphere
Great vid capturing the reality of the job Wade.

That Jake reminds me of my gramps Paystar 5000, had a little 350 Cummins in it but you'd rattle windows a half mile away when you flicked the switch, I still don't hear so hot out of my right ear, lol. people say that the new trucks are getting cheaper built
I know the lighter a truck is the more you can hual but what are you gaining when a triaxle net weight isa few hundred pounds off the weight of the R model wheelers
Oops, I ment curb weight, they were in the shop all the time, they still have the '97 I drove 8 years ago
Yeah I see what your getting at

Yep I do a lot of that. Does any of this lumber go to Stella? I haul out of there several times a year, not too bad just tight as hell back there with 65' feet of equipment on those back roads.
Haha I hear that, not to the best of my knowledge
Buddy you hit the nail on the head!!!
Starting at 7:15 how does it work exactly with the jakes coming on inbetween shifts? Is there some magic to doing this like you did or is it just a natural occurrence when jakes are on still whilst upshifting?:)
Jake Milligan the idea of jake shifting is to pull the motor down quick to get her stuck into another hole before the chassis slows down to slow
Well we all over the charts. 370s, 390s, 411s, 460s...... My favorite is 390s with 18 speed fuller...
We need more like this one Wade
scott parks will do bud
that's a Sweet Sound and truck
What part of the country is this? Do you get any snow or winter conditions there? I learned to drive hauling logs in Northern BC. Since then I've hauled a lot of different commodities, but logging is always close to my heart.
haha oh no nothing like that we don't get but about a week or two of frozen ground in the winter
What part of southern indiana? looks like fun and some good trucking as always!

How come loggers quit using Mack trucks? Used to be all you would see, now rarely see one at all. Love the channel!
Thats one part of logging i always enjoyed, hauling wood to the mill. Well it doesnt take long to realize it is also a little bit easier on your body too. lol, Except for one season, see im from central New Hampshire, and hauling wood in the winter, yeah thats just not so much fun ... lol

lol grass always looks greener... Thanks for the comment bud
Austin Denotter there's plenty of big timber east of the Mississippi.
verteup Burnett County Wisconsin. I beg to differ. Getting into eastern Wisconsin the timber gets a lot better. Question my parents why we lived here? Most of my cutting done with 20 inch bar. a lot of it done with 16 inch.
Austin Denotter welcome to Indiana bud. You’d be pleasantly surprised
how many tons do you'll haul on those trailers
What makes the really loud sound around 8:00?
I think that's the Jake break slowing down for the hill
Wade Etienne
Ah. What an interesting invention!
Yeah what it does is cracks the exhaust valves open on the engine so the resistance of the motor turning acts as a driveline break to help hold the load back. It runs on a switch on the dash you just flick it on when you need it
you should see ice road truckers, when they drive, they use the jake break when going downhill. it makes the engine slow down without having to use the brakes. very handy indeed
yeah that's what a jake is just a brand of engine break

Haha ya, I like driving dump trucks and grain trucks when I get a chance in the country as long as the cops aren't around since I'm 16 lol
What do you guyz run for rear end gear ratios in your trucks?
You all ever around Ky give us a holler like to come spend a day with ya.
Wade you should do some kind of contest for someone too win a trip out too the woods and spend the day with you and stevveyy

Hey it's not that complex, don't be afraid of one... Too many opportunities for CDL drivers to set on the side lines wondering what if

Hey Wade 👋
Let me know larry i will check them out. If you ask me cutting is the scariest, but it also is the funnest so i guess it all balances out
