  • In this video I turned a Myrtlewood bowl and created a second bottom on it to create the illusion that it's floating off the table a little bit.

Hi my name is Carl Jacobson,
I started woodworking with my grandfather as a young boy. I continued woodworking through high school, and started woodturning after seeing a turned project in a friends shop. Some of my fondest memories are working with my grandfather in his wood shop. Being able to share our passion for woodworking, ties it all together. We also do a lot of epoxy projects as well as woodturning.

What a beautiful bowl. Great find! Really like the idea of coloring the foot so the bowl looks like it is floating. Very cool effect. Thank you!

Nice southwestern reshape 😃 Always neat to see someone other than me take advantage of the Easy Wood tools. That chuck is a pleasure to use.

Great second turning on this. The black ring on the bottom is a cool touch. I’ll have to stick that one in my hat for a future project. Love the effect.

Wow, gorgeous piece Carl!! Really love the form and how it appears to hover over the surface!! Very nice work. I'll have to keep an eye out for that species of wood too, beautiful grain!

Floating illusion is a nice touch. Thought you were adding colour to the bottom inside of the bowl. I enjoyed the video.

Nice bowl and interesting concept, Carl. Knowing how you are, I'm surprised you didn't come up with a system of magnets to actually levitate it lol.

I have been doing this of late - I think you are right about the floating aspect I tried burning it first and resorted to coloring it.
