      I played it because my kid loves Bluey but isn't old enough to actually game. It's okay. For someone around 5 or 6 it's a good game to learn the basic motor skills needed for more advanced gaming. For me, who's been playing games for 20 years? Nah, it's a bit simple. I dont really have an issue with the length, sometimes its nice to have a game you can complete in an afternoon.

      After the trend of non-stop licensed tie-in games died off over a decade ago, it's not hard to see why. Since they weren't being pumped out like an assembly line, and there were some notably decent ones in that gap of time, there's now an expectation that if you're going to grab a license to turn it into a game, there's a non-zero chance that it might be because someone cared. I wouldn't say a high chance, but certainly higher than it was in the 80s, 90s, and 00s.

    Sometimes we have to just accept games for kids are "lacklustre" because we as adults have experiences to word why we think it's bad, while a kid doesn't and also perceives the game totally differently. There are games I played as a kid that, upon replaying, were absolutely mind numbingly tedious too. I'm thinking about Petz Catz 2 on the ps2. That game had you not only collect fish and bugs, it also had you collect zoo animals, food, clothes and various quest related items. It's a drag to play through as an adult, but as a child I 100% the game twice and replayed it so much, because I truly experienced it as the adventure of a lifetime! Kids love collecting things and doing tedious tasks to complete a quest

      @TheWrathAbove 7 месяцев назад +28

      Good Cartoon tie in games do exist. The Steven Universe games are surprisingly quite good. And of course there's historically been a good few that rose above such as Ducktales (and it's remaster), TMNT: Turtles in Time (and the recent Shredder's Revenge), Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom (and the recent Cosmic Shake).
      Don't get me wrong though most licenced games especially for fanchises aimed at kids do tend to be bad, but good ones do exist, and I can't fault people for hoping that the game for a series they really like will be one of those few good ones.

I had fun just screwing around doing a bunch of acrobatics and scurrying around outside of the castle aimlessly...
    Chances are kids around that same age I was and younger would likely elongate that short playtime by roleplaying as Bluey's family and making up various scenarios by treating the game like a virtual dollhouse. Seeing as though you can play dress-up by giving them hats, I can absolutely see that being the case here.

    Writing a good interactive game story and functioning mechanics is a very different cup of tea to writing a TV show episode script. Which means, in order to get a good Bluey game we'd either need to have the Bluey production team use a good chunk of their working time or free time to understand and learn how to write scripts for games effectively - or alternatively we'd have to get a game dev studio who are about on the same level of writing genius, to be either able to adapt the existing episodes or develop their own script. I'd say considering this chances of the game being anywhere close to the show's quality were pretty low to begin with. Its not just a licensed game quality issue, its the same reasons why we don't get that many good TV show to game (or thr reverse) adaptations being made at all.

    Here’s how I imagine an optimal Bluey game:
    It’s two player, intended to be child and their guardian (parent, babysitter, older sibling etc). They play various pairs of dogs that echo that relationship and solve puzzles together.
    The roles in the puzzle solving are asymmetrical; a simpler one and a complex one…but they’re not automatically assigned to the characters as ‘older = trickier’. This gives the younger player the choice of trying to tackle the ‘big girl’ game.
    Sure, it leaves the older player with the gameplay equivalent of little more than flipping a light switch, but their positive feedback is theoretically not coming from the game itself.
    …oh, and write it better.
    ……oh, and don’t just flip the assets when dogs like Chilli turn around.

I got it expecting a fairly simple plot and easy gameplay since it's targeted at little kids (like the PS1 The Land Before Time Great Valley Racing Adventure and Wild Thornberrys games I had as a kid), and that's pretty much what I got. Shorter, easier games are more up my alley than longer, challenging games because I can revisit them at any point without having to make much of a commitment.

    I don't know about you guys, but I found it quite pleasing and entertaining, especially the sketch-shorts between the gameplay sections had the same spirit, heart and soul the show offers (perhaps given the fact these were the only aspect where Ludo Studio actually contributed), it kinda felt like a mini Bluey's Big Play performance.
    As for the game itself, it isn't spectacular but for what it is, it's quite enjoyable; a puzzle-solving entertaining and simply diverting pastime that never intended to be huge, it's fine for what it is.
    If there's anyone to blame, it'd be the developers (Outright Games and Artax), a companies infamously known for creating blatant entertainment excuses for popular and recognizable properties only RESEMBLING them, turning out to be just that, excuses for branding and pay-to-win natured frauds... however, I don't think that's the case for this one in particular (sursprisingly).
    They tried with this one, and it shows, it's like they truly attempted to make it feel as faithful to the source material as possible, forgetting they intended to manufacture... a game; this is what I believe affected the project but personally, I just don't mind it...
    The transitional cutscenes is what truly carry the game: mimicking the show's essence quite effeciently, delivering the same lovable warmth and wholesomeness as the show and staying true to the portrayal of all the characters depicted and their interactions (definitely props to the voice actors who apparently improvised some of their lines), it truly feel as some sort of bonus bit the show is familiarized with
    In conclussion, as a game the game may fail but as an experience this delivered the same feel of joy and adorableness (props for Ludo for that), and for that alone I'd say it's pleasing enough; nowhere near the gloriousness of the show, but good enough.
    "It's just monkeys singing songs mate, don't think too hard about it" Bandit Heeler, 2020
    (Sidenote: This show has HUGE potential for any game genre, personally a party game would be WACKADOO!!!)

      Because Bluey is a show that appeals to adults as well as children. The writers and producers wanted to make a passionate game that would appeal to both kids and adults, but weren't able to since the game was produced overseas. Also, using the argument "it's for kids" really doesn't work. Don't you remember playing excellent games growing up? Kids' brains are developing, they deserve the highest quality games instead of shovelware.

  • @Robbie_Haruna
    @Robbie_Haruna 7 месяцев назад

    I feel like the issue for the voices on Bluey and Bingo is primarily on the editing. A number of lines are lifted from the show, but for the newly recorded stuff there's a bunch of stuff where Bluey in particular sounds much deeper than she does in the show, but not consistently. This has probably been ongoing for a while since the kids that play Bluey and Bingo are getting older, but they likely use editing magic in the show itself to prevent it from sounding jarring (they've already mentioned that they do this for Rusty's voice in newer episodes, because his voice actor's voice changed as he got older, so it's not unreasonable to assume the same would hold true for other voices as well.) However I feel like since this game was clearly made on the cheap and cut corners, they just... Didn't do that same thing to all the voice lines.
    Also, I would *not* praise the game's use of 3D for environments personally.
    Keeping the characters in the style of 2D puppets was very smart, but the 3D stuff in this game is where it feels extremely rough around the edges visually. The 3D models are low poly and generally clash extremely hard with the characters (especially, as you touched on, in regards to the accessories characters can wear,) but even without that the 3D models for the environments and props looks quite unpolished.
    I understand that it would have been very hard to do 2D environments in the style of the show and having 3D utilized for that was probably inevitable, but the 3D we *did* get just looks... Cheap.
