Then they quit, and the company gets to claim they never lay people off, or rarely have to. A corporation is still a corporation, and usually awful, crappy things are done to look good.
Because game development timeframes are long, have any game released by the acquired studios been started up after being obtained by XB or they only released ongoing projects? Shuttering Tango when they wanted to start a new game is not a good look, and even if a new Doom is coming they probably were in pre-production when Eternal was almost done Even Elder Scrolls 6 was announced before Xbox
I asked an industry veteran for his opinion on Microsoft buying Bathesda and Activision-Blizzard. He said it was _terrible_ for the industry. They could've spent those billions building new studios and making new jobs. Instead they spent billions to acquire pre-existing studios. That means no growth, no new jobs, no new games, and a lot less money.
And the worst part is: the people they fired are likely ones that made those bought out desirable in the first place. Another stupid decision is consulting with firms like SBI and similar.
@@manoftruth0935 | Oh yeah, Microsoft's layoff strategies are another enormous problem. They grossly underestimate the importance of veterans who've worked in the same environment for decades and all know how to work with one another. Instead, they focus on hiring cheap, new labour and firing the expensive senior staff. What that means is that everyone is constantly learning how to work together, and the studio's memory becomes very short. Follow that philosophy to its logical extreme and you get the half-a-billion-dollar disaster that was Halo Infinite.

That would require taking RISK. The gaming industry has been risk adverse for about 10 to 15 years now. All big corpos want to do is buy something successful or copy something successful. Phil Spencer sits on the BOARD OF DIRECTORS AT MICROSOFT. Let me repeat, Phil Spencer sits on the BOARD OF DIRECTORS AT MICROSOFT. He is MORE than just the CEO of Xbox. He's on the BOARD. Phil Spencer said, "It's just not true that if we go off and build great games, all of the sudden you're going to see console shares shift in some dramatic way." They are NOT interested in making a good product. Their strategy is to "Assimilate and annihilate" (Acquisitions) and "INFILTRATE and annihilate" (Putting games on Nintendo and Sony consoles).
"It's just not true that if we go off and build great games, all of the sudden you're going to see console shares shift in some dramatic way." WTF was he smoking when he said this? Look over at Nintendo. They don't have the most powerful console yet they are selling it hand over fist. And why is that, Phil? The games, you moron!
He's right in that a console needs more than great games. Consoles with good games failed a bunch because of external factors, maybe coming into a crowded market or being too expensive for the average consumer or not having a killer feature that the competition has. The thing is, you do still need great games. The hardware and software sell each other. And you can't get great games if you keep buying and killing studios.

Alright so there’s a quote from Mr. Phil Spencer that goes like this: “If we loose our way with Halo, we loose our way with Xbox.” Well, between corporate greed and leadership looking to appease Microsoft in any way possible, they lost their way with Halo. Then this news broke. The quote stood true. Just in the bad way.

Trickle down economics works when its blanket tax cuts for net tax payers. Which is roughly 30% of the country at this point, and most taxes being paid by the 10%, which is anyone making over 100k outside if New York and LA. Trickle down doesn’t work when the government is allowed to pick winners and losers, which is what we have now. The small and medium businesss? They get shut down for three years while everyone is funneled into the big stores that give kick backs to government. In the case of gaming: the government lets the Big Dogs (MS, EA, etc) gobble up little and medium size devs without concern for the marketplace. Look at how EA bought so many companies so cheaply. They piled on frivolous lawsuits until the other company was bankrupt and had to sell. It violates several FTC regulations but they are allowed to get away with it.
@@Peasham it does work. What doesn’t is cronyism. Statistically, only about 45-6% are net tax payers. The top 10% pay 90% of federal taxes. The job creators almost all fall into that top 10%, because most small business owners end up in top tax brackets even if they aren’t rich. Cut taxes for all net tax payers and it will, by nature of economics, trickle down. The ultra rich buy another solid gold yacht, which creates jobs in yacht making, but the rest of business owners either spend money on things they need or reinvest in their business. Buying things creates demand which creates job as businesses seek to increase supply to meet demand. Investing in businesses creates jobs either directly (owner hires more people) or indirectly (buys new equipment, drives demand for equipment, which creates jobs to increase supply to meet that demand.) My point is that what OP was complaining about is not “trickle down” economics. When the government picks winners and losers, things don’t trickle down, they get funneled into pools that are already overflowing.
I agree to an extent, even though I recently bought an Xbox One X just so I could have access to my old Xbox One games (I used to share a console with my brother).
It's sad gamepass could be perfect for new and unique games. There's so many new games I got into because of it. Just don't put the sequels on gamepass day 1 wait at least 6 months. Only new and experimental games should be on gamepass day 1 so people could play it risk free.
Yep. There are several new games I got into because of Game Pass as well like Turnip Boy, Ai The Somnium Files, Scarlet Nexus, and Ravenlock just to name 4 of them
The problem was it was way too low of a cost I mean you'd have to charge at least a hundred bucks a month as much as an ISP charges for internet service
The only thing I use pass for is deciding if I want a game. I'm on limited income so being able to freely try a game so I can then save up and buy it is good for me. I just think more games should release demos.
The fact they shut down Tango games for attempting to make Hi Fi Rush 2 is offically a line Microsoft has crossed that made me jump ship to indie games hard
I kind of hope Xbox stays. I don't want Playstation to get too comfortable. Yes, technically, they would still have a competitor in Nintendo. However, the audience Nintendo serves versus the audience Playstation/Xbox serves is so different that they are almost in two different businesses.
Sega's more recent games are too divisive for a console comeback and couldn't live up to the standards that the original sonic trilogy and the two sonic adventures games have gotten even generations and mania while good and close to the classics aren't enough for it. MS is on the verge on killing of Xbox. Would Valve take it's place they could the deck is like if the switch and PlayStation has a child.
Personally, I’ve never really cared about Xbox: I’ve never had one of their consoles (I’m mainly with Nintendo), and their exclusives almost never appealed to me. The only exceptions were the Ori games (which were later ported to the Switch), and of course, Hi-Fi Rush. Not only was it one of the first games I played on Steam (I finally got a PC last year), but it was my favorite game of 2023. And seeing the news of the studio closure was devastating. Yes, the Active Whiteout buyout cost a lot, but if you’re going to close down studios, why would you go with a studio whose most recent game won several awards?! This has assured that I’m never getting an Xbox, not buying game pass (though I might eventually use the free 3 months I got with my PC), and if any of their games happen to catch my interest, I’ll just get it on PC.
Xbox is Vandelay Industries, Microsoft is Hyperion, Phil is Mimosa, that exec with the funny last name is Kale & the other execs are different versions of Handsome Jack. Change my mind?
Phil actually feels more like Roxanne Vandelay - screwed over by corporate take over of XBox division by Microsoft and unable to do anything, even voice his dissatisfaction with current situation.

Pretty obvious. The Microsoft brand is more like a parent taking candy from a baby, which is the Xbox brand. Even if Phil Spencer is CEO of Microsoft Gaming, he's still owned by Satya Nadella, along with the rest of the higher-ups over at Microsoft. A big tech company that's good on the funding side, but terrible on the branding side.
The Japanese public don’t care about them. None of their consoles caught on in Japan and they’ve always pulled out of the market over there. Even with their newest system that was selling the best but not enough to beat Sony and especially Nintendo who are still doing very well.
It's easy to see Xbox never gave a shit about any Bethesda studios, they cared about owning Fallout and Elder Scrolls, as well as having the (highly?) anticipated Starfield under their name before it came out. They WILL throw Ninja Theory into the trash now that Hellblade 2 is out, and probably will do the same with all those upcoming AAA games devs they showed a few months back if they don't sell millions. Which they won't.
I agree! IMO Xbox should have ended after the 360 era and gone full software for play on the PC. Heck... You can already play Xbox games on the PC, so why waste money on physical consoles?!
Tbh it would of ended with the 360 because of the ring of death but due to how much Sony screwed up on the launch of the PS3, it allowed the 360 to do well enough to keep Microsoft in the game.
I absolutely regret getting a series X. Microsoft dropped the ball so hard and at this point, let Xbox die. It's had 2 good generations, and 2 terrible ones. It's time to put it to rest for good.
While every PlayStation was going well even the PS3 while it is the runt due to it's rocky start is more than good enough to still be with the rest. All pses are good generations even if imperfect. Early Xbox (OG & 360) succeed on trying a fair fight against Sony. Late Xbox (One & Series) don't.
@@janitoalevic more titles to play + gyro aiming is a game changer in the shooter games that support it. I’d only ever get a Xbox again to use a Series S as an emulation box

Glad to still have a PC for games. I like the Xbox Series X well enough for it's back compatibility and the handful of physical games I own. But yeah, Game Pass is just a wall of games I don't care enough to invest the time downloading, the space on my drive to install, or my life to play for a few moments.
SteamOS will eventually get a public release, and you’ll just be able to install it on your own PC. I don’t see Valve releasing any non-handheld hardware again.
The problems start when idiots are put in positions like CEO and CFO, and the ones that can sail the ship out of danger are left to bail out water through the hole bringing it in.
Let’s not kid ourselves here, the ONLY reason the Xbox 360’ launch, with it’s Red Ring of Death, wasn’t a absolute disaster, is because the PS3’s launch was even worse
Honestly, it's sad to see xbox commit self game end (in minecraft), but I think we need this second gaming market crash to happen. The publicly traded titans of the past need to go. The way needs to be cleared for the smaller studios and indie devs who actually give a damn about the things they're making. And to anyone who still, after all this, wants try to to argue that the 2nd big gaming market crash isn't happening right now as we speak... Maybe you're right. Keep sticking to indies AA budget games. That's what we need to support. That's where the good stuff is at, after all.
Microsoft needs to just clean house on the top of the ladder, instead of firing developers who did nothing wrong, they need to look inwards at the REAL problem which are the idiot executives making all these decisions. The house is on fire and instead of looking at how to put it out, they're just finding ways to ignore the problem and blame others for it, which does not help. The fact any low level employee would be fired for one slip up, but these dumbfucks can make countless mistakes and still be safe, is just insanely unfair. Heads need to roll if they honestly want to keep in business within the gaming industry, because you can't keep staying afloat with nothing of substance to offer forever.
This whole Microsoft situation actually kinda reminds me of the place I work at. I can't say exactly what company I work for for legal reasons, but I do work at a car wash. Basically, the car wash company was bought out by an even bigger company within the last year, and the changes they've been making have been abysmal and even downright idiotic. None of my coworkers like our new parent company for a multitude of reasons. I can now confidently say from personal experience that company buyouts are terrible for both the customers and employees.
People will likely disagree with me, but whats the point of an Xbox when all the games are already available on PC? Xbox is redundant in a landscape where most people already have a PC strong enough to play most games
To this day, I have no idea where Xbox hardware even is. I lost track after Xbox One I think. XBox Series X? Series S? Xbox -> Xbox 360 -> Xbox One -> Xbox Series X? What even is this naming scheme? I don't even play Playstation, but at least its names are sequential, and at least most of Nintendos' consoles are unique and distinctive. (For example, it's hard to confuse the Switch with the Wii U or Gamecube, etc.) In other words, they should either be naming their consoles sequentially or with distinct names, but not so close in naming or using arbitrary subtitles (One? X? S? 360?) that would confuse people. Imagine how hard it would be for a parent or grandparent not even into gaming trying to get an "Xbox" for their kid as a gift or something.
Idk about you but you must be 93 years old to find it hard to learn xbox console names, they’re all different enough from each other for a bird to differentiate them. And the reason xbox didn’t name it’s second console (xbox 360) xbox 2, it’s because thier competitor was playstation 3, so it would make xbox look a generation behind, besides it would be 10 times more hard to track thier names.
@ekram1v135 I'm saying it's not intuitive at all. Looking into it, Xbox has both Xbox One X and S and also an Xbox Series X and S, both of which are not intuitive for the average consumer in differentiating their capabilities and generation. X is apparently more like a Pro while S is more like a Lite version, but S has indicated upgrades on iPhones for example. You are looking at Xbox One Xbox One S Xbox One X Xbox Series S Xbox Series X Not only is that redundancy, but aside from the Wii U, Nintendo's strategy was more distinct names, and then usually Lite, Pro, New (clearer if something is newer/upgraded). Even Playstation maintains a clear distinction between generations and incremental family upgrades or cheaper models with Slim and Pro. Xbox on the other hand has a lot less intuitive and redundant names, even less consistent. There is a base Xbox One model, but no base Xbox Series model, and they both end with a letter. I've seen stories of Parent is asked to get an Xbox for Christmas, and they see on marketplace someone selling the "Xbox X" or "Xbox Series S." Not only unaware of the latest generation but the seller also may have confusing wording. Is Xbox X referring to One X or Series X? Is S better than X? Are the ones that end in X in the same generation? Unless you subscribe to the Xbox ecosystem, these are far less clear and intuitive naming schemes.
Yes, let it go for once. Let them burn Xbox down to the ground, we never needed it. Anything that long-term hurts Microsoft is a plus in my book, as it also long-term heals PC gaming back to its former glory state where MS didn't poison it with walled gardens. Never interrupt your enemy when it's doing a stupid move.
No Evil Within 3 is crazy, but this isn't hurting Xbox. I'm gunna buy one and I'm buying Starfield, racing, Hellblade 2 & Stalker 2 this year. It'll be a good look next to my Playstation 32 game collection. Pretty much gotta start collecting PS4 games at this point theres not much else I want

"Communication seems to be a recurring problem at Xbox". Communication is a problem throughout the entire tech industry. Every tech company operates like this, not just Xbox and not even just video games. Anyone who's worked at a large tech company can tell you this. Management always withholds even seemingly benign information from their subordinates until the absolute last moment. It's insane and leads to an absolute load of problems, but you can't tell them that.
I know people are gonna disagree with me, but if Microsoft ends their console market, this would be a good opportunity for SEGA to make hardware again. I know that sounds crazy, but please hear me out. If Xbox consoles aren't being sold anymore, then all we'll have left are Sony and Nintendo, which is an incredibly small pool of console manufacturers. And if SEGA were to make another console during Microsoft's end days, we would have steady competition between three companies like normal. And the best part is that SEGA has the IP's to back up potential console sales. I'm not saying they have to beat Nintendo or Sony. I'm just saying that competition in the console market is much better for the industry (as long as SEGA keeps their games exclusive to their own console).
I'd certainly be ok with that outcome now Sega finally has their priorites straight and are doing well as a result. It would also be the ultimate embarrassment for Xbox if they took their spot back from Microsoft.
Honestly, I never understood, what XBox stands for. Nintendo is fun games for Kids. Playstation a enginge racecar for grown-ups. XBox... All I can come up with is the poor kid whose mother bought the wrong game console.

That aged really horribly, seeing what they’ve been doing recently by letting go studies that are doing so well and putting new/used products on the back burning not giving them the chance. Not only that, after closing down the small studios, Microsoft made a post saying they need small studios. Even though they closed down tango game works who made hi-fi rush, which by the way won several rewards in 2023. Overall, Microsoft is just another example of a studios who don’t care about the people, but only care about the money and cheap shortcuts to get that profit.

1:45 Not that Sony has much in the way of true exclusives themselves. The only real difference in practice as far as the average customer is concerned is that Xbox puts all of their first and second party titles on PC now while Sony doesn't, which if you ask me is a net positive in Microsoft's favor but not Sony's.
Xbox has become the new Sega, except at least the Saturn and Dreamcast actually had games. What does Xbox have? Barely anything now, it's become an utter joke because Microsoft is out-of-touch, and would seemingly rather stick to computer software because that's it's bread and butter.

Unforunately, Arkane Austin being closed isn't as big of a loss as it sounds. Apparently Around 70% of team members who worked on Prey left the Studio before Redfall came out.
Gaming as a whole has kinda stagnated. Sony is just releasing Remakes and movie games with simple combat. Nintendo is floundering their creativity to release the same stuff over and over again. I just find myself modding Fallout on my laptop most of the time. The constant arguing and passive aggression between Console gamers is tiring too, especially since one side would love to just be in their own ecosystem forever. Playing video games used to be this comfort zone. I’d head home and play Halo with friends in wacky custom games. Rinse and repeat. I loved being creative and making things myself, which is why I spent so much time Forging in Halo and it led me to major in English and Theatre so I could create things in real life. Now I’m an adult who is too busy to play most games and I barely had time to finish Spider-Man 2, which ultimately felt hollow to me oddly. I feel like gaming itself, at least for me, is over. Maybe I’ve finally outgrown it. Maybe it’s time to take the things gaming had given me and build a future that my children may discover.

They did. They got the IPs that the studios made and discarded the rest of "less value".
They are, they did. Those studios were the competition. Now they can't make games to compete with Microsoft Game Studios.
Yes they purchased them to bolster the appeal for Gamepass. That's what it was, they're putting all of their eggs in gamepass and it's not working.
What that means is that everyone is constantly learning how to work together, and the studio's memory becomes very short. Follow that philosophy to its logical extreme and you get the half-a-billion-dollar disaster that was Halo Infinite.

2:12-2:27 bIG bUsInEsSeS cReAtE jObS! - Every politician and crony economist perpetuating the myth of trickle-down economy.

@@Kilthan2050 So trickle down doesn't work, is what you're saying.
Investing in businesses creates jobs either directly (owner hires more people) or indirectly (buys new equipment, drives demand for equipment, which creates jobs to increase supply to meet that demand.)

Not only was it one of the first games I played on Steam (I finally got a PC last year), but it was my favorite game of 2023. And seeing the news of the studio closure was devastating.
Right. I remember watching their big game reveals with a friend and everytime I saw "also available on pc" and asked why would I need the new xbox?
Xbox made a bigger mistake than Disney had when they shut down their gaming studios.
(For example, it's hard to confuse the Switch with the Wii U or Gamecube, etc.)
In other words, they should either be naming their consoles sequentially or with distinct names, but not so close in naming or using arbitrary subtitles (One? X?
I generally disagree, except (xbox one) all thier console names were good and unique.
You are looking at
Xbox One
Xbox One S
Xbox One X
Xbox Series S
Xbox Series X
Not only is that redundancy, but aside from the Wii U, Nintendo's strategy was more distinct names, and then usually Lite, Pro, New (clearer if something is newer/upgraded).

Imagine playing a management sim with an unlimited money cheat and still losing.
That is Xbox
1:45 Not that Sony has much in the way of true exclusives themselves. The only real difference in practice as far as the average customer is concerned is that Xbox puts all of their first and second party titles on PC now while Sony doesn't, which if you ask me is a net positive in Microsoft's favor but not Sony's.
How I miss the 360 days when Xbox was so dynamic and energetic.
Why would you buy a bunch of studios just to crush them? What would that accomplish other than decrease the gaming biodiversity?!
Xbox has become the new Sega, except at least the Saturn and Dreamcast actually had games. What does Xbox have? Barely anything now, it's become an utter joke because Microsoft is out-of-touch, and would seemingly rather stick to computer software because that's it's bread and butter.
i wouldnt even conoare sega to xbox bow, cuz even theyve been making an effort to use their dead series again now
I guess this was Microsoft's excuse to only focus on Windows.
Hi-Fi Rush 2 would have been great.
why is microsoft trying to be EA
Maybe it's because they're American.
I have a switch. I use it to stream TV. I have an xbone s. I use it to stream. I play on PC. And while I do use windows by choice (the devil you know vs the devil you don't), I am going to be sticking with PC as my primary gaming platform.
The sound of the video is all over the place, I can barely hear the speech and then the sound efects and intro sound are blaring loud.
I'm not going to blame a company, just the people of the company.
They didn’t even advertised their biggest exclusive this year, Hellblade 2. Yes, it’s already released.
It's no longer Xbox, it's Microsoft Gaming. Play on your fridge screen soon. Xbox needs a TV. Game Pass just needs a "screen".
Unforunately, Arkane Austin being closed isn't as big of a loss as it sounds. Apparently Around 70% of team members who worked on Prey left the Studio before Redfall came out.
xbox 720 when
Gaming as a whole has kinda stagnated.
Maybe it’s time to take the things gaming had given me and build a future that my children may discover.
the only gmaing scene that is good is the INDIE PC scene
we are going to have crash of AAAs again like happened in 1984
@@ThunderClawShocktrix Yup. It’s unfortunate, but that’s what corporate interference, greed, and lack of creativity lead to.
Video aged like Milk my guy. LMAO Saberspark truly is a dead channel haha.
Him making a video you don't like doesn't make him automatically a dead channel
Now I'm worried about Rare and Double Fine, what if they get disolved?!
Also, a huge problem is that most Steam Games require a Windows computer, so even jumping to Steam won't entirely work.
I'm still shocked to this day ever since Smash Bros Banjo and Kazooie never got remake or any kind of remaster. They got their opportunity right there but never took it.
Windows is slowly losing its position as a requirement. It requires a little effort, and I do mean a little, but boy can you play a whole lot of games on Linux these days.
@@largegoldbrickAlot. But not all.
@@SumNormymaybe it's for the best those developers don't really want to get those games working on Linux do you really want to play them are they really worth your time and effort or should they be forgotten invoke the right to be forgotten
God you guys are embarrassing. Can Linix users say anything else besides "It's for your own good" When it comes to Linix's incapabilities?
Some people would like to play more than just Modded Fallout New Vegas, Baulders Gate, Skyrim, and Elden Ring Y'know.
PlayStation having no games is a meme but Xbox literally has no games. Getting an Xbox in this day and age is like shooting yourself in the foot
I work at a videogame store (I can’t say the name), but yeah Xbox is literally going down so hard, that me and my coworkers get the feeling it will eventually disappear or something like how sega is where they simply distribute games- which is still not that great-
Never Trust Microsoft Xbox Since They Cancelled Project Scalebound Because of Their Own Stupidity and Greed 😡
Xbox as a brand will most likely disappear coming years. Mixed into something very corporate sounding like.
If they don't shape up soon yeah definetly.
What would be a success for a indie Dev would not be for someone like Microsoft. Microsoft needs their games to make so much money they simply can't reach that kind of money in most cases. Indie games is definitely where it's at.
Voting with your wallet is the best way to have your say.
Let Rare make a new Viva Pinata XBox
Why? if it underperforms they'll just sharpen the axe.
Tango needs to go to Nintendo. Hostility to fan games aside, they would give that game the recognition it deserves.
Apparently it's going to Playstation as of now.
That's already something.
Given Microsofts attitude, they absolutely do **not** deserve any exclusive.
Hi-Fi Rush is one of the best games I've played in a long time and I will never forgive microsoft for closing down Tango
Definitely feels like they’re going the route of Sega
I've moved to PC gaming and couldn't be happier
This means we could finally get left 4 dead on other consoles
I'm in the small minority that didn't think of Redfall as a disaster, but rather a game that had a TON of potential and needed more time in the oven. It combined some of the best of Arkane's ideas with a beautiful environment and good level design. But, alas, it had to get pushed out before the summer and didn't get enough polish.
Definitions of success.
Here's what that means, a game can be successful on gamepass but that doesn't matter because gamepass games don't earn much money.
So these expensive game won't earn any meaningful monetary return.
I despise gamepass, we're starting to see the future of what it'll get us. And it's not good.
Cancelled my GP after they shut down Arkane and Tango. I was really hoping for Hi-Fi Rush 2
Yeah and evil within 3 too
@@tayyarsungur4513the evil within 1 for me was better than most resident evil games except maybe for one
@oliverwilliam6931 I hope Mikami will make at least one more horror game, before retirement.

Xbox: this is the end for you, my master
I don't think PlayStation would do something like this, right?
This is standard practice in the industry
