She also mentioned being weak. Since she lives in Juniper and the movie discusses the dragon warrior and furious 5 being lesser known etc. I think her being a runt and not respected is due to the city she was in. The city seemed more violent etc and had lots of gangs. From the flashbacks we see of Zen it seems the smaller you are the less you get respect. I think Chameleon only discovered about the valley of peace after turning to evil.

The reason Y Tailung, Shen, and Kai, (along with many others), quickly 😢 "lost their powers" / "had their powers stolen from them" was due to the "efficiency" of Chameleon's art of "replication" that t could've been overcome by (nevermind Po, who defeated the 1st 3 villains) but Chameleon could've been defeated by any of the previous 3 villains since you're versing yourself in a long, drawn-out battle.

    @THELarvious Месяц назад +109

Chameleon's motive made legit 0 sense. To be written smoother, her backstory could've been a central plot point of the movie and Po's 4th test: Mastery of Self. The Chameleon could've been born into a life of discrimination and bullying, as perhaps in this universe, chameleons are naturally demeaned since their one gimmick is putting on the face of another person. Chameleon was ruined by this and hates herself for it; so because she despises herself so much, she becomes addicted with her shapeshifting abilities in a quest to demand respect via force, and that force comes in the form of turning into powerful individuals. When she becomes empress, she could seek to tap into the Spirit Realm to steal the face and powers of the most skilled opponent, which is undoubtedly Tai Lung.
She should've only brought him back, so Kai and Shen wouldn't clump up screen time and to give Tai Lung a proper redemption arc with him reconciling with Shifu, becoming Dragon Warrior, and while not liking Po, forgiving him. Instead... we got this mess of a movie.

Hear me out someone, this movie could've used Po’s stagnation sort of to its benefit. The Chameleon could've been a reflection of Po from the first movie, filled with self-loathing and her shapeshifting powers could've been a reflection of not being able to accept who she is. Po’s journey of becoming a spiritual leader could be figuring out how to impart that same wisdom he learned when he finally opened the dragon scroll, accepting and believing in himself. This concept feels so obvious and entertaining idk how they missed this.

They actually could have redeemed a villian for the first time by having Chamilian's self dought hurt her adopted daughter. That the daughter also feels that way as a result. Po seeing himself in them both helps them heal. Such a waited opertunity.

Why find a new dragon warrior?
Unless a lot of time has passed since Po became it, it seems a bit short lived. Also, why at all?
It's not like there was a chain of them, passing the title from one to the next; it was literally a destiny situation.
Oogway was Oogway, Shifu was Shifu. Others were literally passed over to be the dragon warrior until Po, _the chosen one,_ bumbled in.
The whole plot point just seems kinda dumb.
Instead it could've been similar to the suggestion here. The Five get sent off to do stuff, Po is doing Po things, and- oh no! Shifu's been stolen by the new evil!
Po meets Awkwafox, they make friends, go find the evil, maybe some betrayal happens, Po saves day.
Need more drama? _Maybe_ Shifu faces mortal danger and dies in some way related to the dead guys coming back, thus forcing Po into a new teacher position, so foxy gets brought on in the end as a new student. Bam, standard beats, but better than... *~gestures vaguely~*

This movie should have been about Tai Lung. And there is no changing my mind about it.
      My re-write of the movie.
"The movie starts with the Chameleon who came of a family of sorcerers, who wanted to learn KungFu but wasn't good at it,opening the doors of the spirit realm with a spell,a spell that only lasts for a short time, and she brings out Tai Lung.
After an amazing fight scene, she finally succeeded in taking Tai Lung's KungFu,but before she locked him up (or killed him), Tai Lung managed to escape, but he overheard the Chameleon talking about needing the staff Oogway give to Po,that she heard it has the power to open the gates of the Spirit Realm, that she desperately needs the staff so she can permanently open up the gates and steal the rest of the Master's their KungFu,Tai Lung then decides that he (as much he hates to admit it) needs Po's help to stop the Chameleon and get his Kung Fu back.
Then we cut to Po and Shifu (the plot of Po needing a new successor doesn't exist). Shifu tells Po that he will be retiring soon because his old age is finally started to get to him,and that when it does he will make Po the new Grandmaster of the Jade Palece,Po is conflicted, while he knows that he had to eventually take Shifu's place,he thinks he is not ready yet too be the leader of the Valley of Peace.
Tai Lung finally shows up. The Furious Five surrounded him and started to attack him,Tai Lung has managed to block some of their attacks (muscle memory) but was obviously struggling to hold them off. The Five finally beat him. But Tai Lung was not done yet,he knows he can't fight as he used to since he doesn't have his KungFu anymore, but he still demands the Five to call Po because he needs to talk to him.
When Po shows up after Crane delivery the news of Tai Lung returns, he asked Tai Lung how he got out from the Spirit Realm and why he is looking for him,Tai Lung tells him that the Chameleon brought him back and stole his KungFu ,then process to tell Po what he overheard about the Camaleon's plans and that he needs his help to stop her,Po at first thought it was a trick, but he soon realizes that Tai Lung has indeed lost his KungFu (because if he still had them he would have already fought against the Five like last time so he could get to him),and so Po decided to help him.
They go together on the journey to the Camaleon's hideout, and in the journey Po started to open up to Tai Lung about how he wished that things would have turned out differently the day they fought, and how he would have offered to help him,he even tells him that to this day,Shifu still beats himself for failing him and for not realizing sooner what he was turning him into,Tai then confess on a moment of vulnerability (him finding out that even in death Shifu hasn't forgotten about him and still love him,and he genuinely started to like the small yet odd friendship he and Po started to have) that on his time in the spirit realm he reflected on his actions (with Ogways help mind you),he was so blinded by hurt and anger for those 20 years, that he hasn't fully process what he was doing at the time, that he didn't care about the damage he was causing at the moment,he wanted the title he was denied to have, but above else he wanted Shifu to be proud of him,and because of it he had done an unforgettable damage to everyone that he now regrets.
This comment is long already so long story short, they fought the Chameleon together, restored Tai Lung and the rest of the masters their KungFu,Tai Lung with a new perspective, thanks Po for helping and that Oogway was right when he chose him to be the Dragon Warrior ,and he apologized to Shifu for everything he had done, and that he hopes to see him on the other side and start over,Tai Lung returns to the Spirit Realm,3 year's later Shifu passed away and he reunites with Tai Lung in the Spirit Realm, and Po becomes the new Grandmaster and leader of the Valley of Peace."
That's the best I came up with, there are other plots fans came up for the fourth movie that are absolutely amazing though,so I say that the fans came up with stories better than what the movie gave us.

To give the film some credit, it does try to fake you out about Zhen being Chameleon's adopted daughter, by quickly introducing the head of the thief guild who was her previous parental figure before Chameleon, and establishing unresolved drama between Zhen and him.
They did this right after revealing she was adopted, and her master and her's relationship was strained.

    - Where are the furious 5?!
    - Why did Po has to quickly find his successor anyway? Oogway is a walking bone before he choose Po...
    - And Po has to pick his successor with several random people?
    - The main villain is defeated in only two hits?
    - After freed, all the villains just suddenly respect Po, why?
    - What happen to the underground people? there's no closure for that
    - Why did they make the Dragon Warrior like a nobody know? in the last 3 movies they centered around the dragon warrior like everybody knew him.
    - There's not much growth for Po in this movie compared to the other.

Ever since I saw this movie I kept thinking whether they could’ve headed towards a different storyline instead. KFP 4 could’ve been about how Po used his staff to try and contact Oogway but accidentally releases Tai Lung and has to catch him again but this time perhaps redeem him and let Shifu say his final goodbyes to him. Or it could’ve built upon a parallel between Zhen and Po, knowing they were both orphan and had almost the same upbringing. (Ex: Po’s adoptive father and Zhen’s “adoptive father” Han, Po being taken in and trained by Shifu while Zhen was taken in by The Chameleon and trained as well.) Perhaps this could’ve been how The Chameleon wanted to make her own dragon warrior to bring down Po?
Idk, just kind of my wacky thoughts for this film. KFP 4 just felt kinda empty.

Make it about how Juniper City had Kung Fu Masters sent in to help keep the peace, but instead they make it worse by fighting every chance they get. They preach peace but choose war. Those battles left Chameleon hopeless, homeless, and helpless. A lot of his growth and development had been stroked by others, and in this film especially he was being pushed by Shifu when he personally felt like he wasn't ready to move on. So it would've been nice to have a lesson somewhere about taking your future into your own hands. Especially after all the self-discovery he had in the other films. Or like, him accepting yes, this is a reality i need to face (choosing a successor) but not right now.

Tigress should've been the next Dragon Warrior. She's great in kung fu, but it's arguable that she still has a lot to learn from Po. It also would've been interesting to see their relationship as friends develop further if Po became her new teacher, and a far different one than Shifu ever was. Or we could've gotten the Tai Lung redemption many fans hoped for as soon as we saw his cameo. It could've still been a source of conflict in the movie; if he would redeem he wouldn't suddenly have to become nice. It would have been interesting to see how he would have dealt with finally realizing his desire to be the thing he was raised to be by Shifu, or to be rejected again, having to cope with that again, and having to find his true purpose in life after that. Instead he just forgave Po, along with the other villains, because despite Po having sent them all to the spirit realm, at least he also defeated the main baddie and got the rest their Kung Fu back.

I was honestly expecting it or at least expecting Shifu to have a reaction to Tai Lung being back since he was like a son to him, but none of that was there and I was honestly alseep for most if the movie because I was so bored and knew what was gonna happen.

You'd think after all this time Shifu would see that the "Dragon Warrior" is nothing more than a simple title. To be able to see the good in people as Oogway saw the darkness in Tai Lung. There is no need for a new Dragon Warrior because it is simply air. The Dragon Scroll held no destiny for Tai Lung for his trials and tribulations of training and being locked away for 20 years. This whole movie was a nothing burger. Shifu being kidnapped is an actual motivator for Po and the audience. Have Zhen be the kidnapper and instead of Peng and Li getting their moments show Shifu and Zhen getting to know one another and for Shifu to drop the seed of change for Zhen. So by the time everything is wrapping up she has her moment to shine and earn her destiny, like Po did. Kicking off the next movies planned with a new character to flesh out further alongside the Furious 5 AND THE DRAGON WARRIOR [Said in Jack Black's voice].

We've also already established that Shifu is shit at choosing Dragon Warrior's and yet he is still pushing that damn ceremony to choose one despite Oogway constantly not choosing one. The last film really felt like the end to me, unless the next film was about Po literally being Shifu and teaching a real student (not the Furious 5 who already know kung fu, or the pandas who were only learning to save their village). Maybe that's what Zhen was meant to be.
I also don't like how Po gets to be Oogway's successor as 'spiritual leader', when it's clear Shifu has grown a lot from his prejudices against Po so he would make a good spiritual leader. Po's way too young. He's immature and honestly he deserves to be silly and a bit selfish, because he's young. Shifu who has experienced failure teaching Tai Lung and then redeemed himself teaching Po without Oogway should be leader.

You could argue that he’s been in the spirit realm for years and had time to reflect.
Have the chameleon take Shifu and you have all the motivation for a fun and awkward buddy movie with Kung Fu as Tai and Po try to work together to get him back.

Kung Fu Panda 3 is underappreciated and I will defend it to the death. While the villain wasn't as intimidating or deep as Tai Lung or Shen, the movie's strengths were in the themes regarding family, the nuance of co-parenting, and how their love for Po can be expressed differently. Seeing Ping--Po's adoptive father--express his insecurities about Li Shan--Po's birth father--coming into Po's life, only to realize Li Shan had his own insecurities about his inadequacy as a parent was such a breath of fresh air; I don't think a lot of movies cover this aspect of family and it was incredibly touching to see Ping uplift Li Shan in order to give Po as much support as possible.
"I was worried you'd steal Po from me... but I realized having you in Po's life doesn't mean less for me--it means more for Po."
"Sometimes we do the wrong things, for the right reasons."

Because they are known for making amazing movies and shows, yet when they do things like that it seems lazy and uninspired, not to mention with the way things are going it usually turns out poorly, being influenced by woke writers who only seek to put in their opions and not make an actually good movie. DreamWorks has a pass because compared to those 2 it's the underdog, and KFP has been around long enough for it to be a nostalgia hit for a lot of us, like Shrek. However I don't think KFP4 was up to standards and it's very disappointing to see. Actually makes me question if I wanna see the wild robot or the live action how to train your dragon.

In a perfect world the main colors for KFP 4 would be purple. Tai Lung then goes on to train Zhen and the next generation of Kung Fu masters. Po then takes on Shifu's role (he can still fight though). Also Tai Lung should be the only returning villain because he's sympathetic. Characters are kind of butchered (like why is Po so proper and Shifu so grumpy?) Especially with the villian - the concept is so cool, but her motivation is a joke. I feel if she said something like "oooh I just like dark magic" it could been better. Overall, it feels like a bunch of series scrapped together. However, this is still better than many other 4th films and modern sequels.

I saw the movie. To introduce sorcery could have been a cool concept and the movie could have been great.
Like it could have been explained that she was refused to be trained in Kung-Fu because maybe she was fascinated by and dabbling in forbidden arts (Sorcery), and they believed she would be a danger to the world in pursuit of power, much like in the first movie where Tai Lung was refused title of Dragon Warrior. It could have been a clever comparison in villains in a way.
But instead of doing things alone like he did, she gathers up street rats who are also denied opportunities of Kung-Fu to dabble into Sorcery, and Zhen could have become a prized student or something.
They could have kidnapped Shifu, luring him with the disguise of an innocent character or even as one of the furious 5 after Zhen was taken to jail, and so Zhen, having been the only one who knows how to get to the city, is hired by Po to help find him since the furious 5 were out doing something else.
If they put more heart into it, they could have introduced the furious 5 later in the movie to save Po from the cage, and had some epic massive fight between The Chameleon post-chi absorption (To show her immense power and new knowledge off) and the 7 warriors to fight her off (Po and Zhen eventually having to come together to use chi and sorcery at the same time to finally separate the chi from the Chameleon and send her to the spirit realm.

According to an interview with co-director Stephanie Ma Stine posted on the r/kungfupanda subreddit, director Mike Mitchell was given complete creative control over the film's story (with the sole major stipulation is that the movie could not run over ninety minutes), which led to many of the more controversial and underdeveloped plot elements, such as Zhen and the Chameleon's undercooked backstories (they originally had none at all), Kai and Lord Shen having no lines (they were added very last minute), Shifu not being present during the climax (even the DreamWorks executives loved the idea of him being there, but it got axed for reasons unknown), and an overall insistence on a more comedic tone over the dramedy approach of the first two films.

Plus it would've bring the characters together to make a grand finale battle
And Po having to decide who he'll choose to be the next dragon warrior
Like gee who is he gonna pick?, oh wait the Furious Five aren't here uh Zhen...no other options 🤣
When the idea of the Chameleon having the ability to morph into the villains Po defeated it was very intriguing
But when the villains returned I thought they would interact but Kai and Shen didn't speak at all
Unfortunately JK Simmons who voiced Kai and Gary Oldman as Lord Shen didn't reprise they're roles
    They were wasted
Tai Lung though had potential for a redemption arc with shi Fu
It would've made a tear jerking moment between them especially if they went for the Shi Fu being captured plot
Chameleon seemed like a *different* kind of villain
But her motivation to why she brings back the villains from the spirit realm is pretty dumb
Like girl there's someone who knows how to fight *conveniently* right there (Zhen) and your not the only animal in China who's small
Mantis can literally lift Po 🤣
I don't hate the movie but I don't love it either
I want to but the plot holes, lack luster characters, cliches, absent characters really gave a sour taste
I wish Everybody loves Kung Fu song was put into the end credits

I think the story could be better if they shows The Chameleon's backstory like when she was young and she love Kung-fu just like Po was. But when she goes and tried to learn it from many Kung-fu school, she been belittle and bullied by other students that thinks that she didn't deserve to learn Kung-fu (the same with Shifu and Furious 5 did toward Po in KFP 1). Unable to go through the trainings because she was weak, she gave up and left the training hall and stumbled an old sorcerer that willingly to teach her sorcery.
Zhen can be just another character who just stealing for profit. After Po captured her, she beg Po to let her go so she can go back to Juniper City but eventually goes to prison anyway. The Chameleon kidnapped Shifu and left a massage for Po to go to Juniper City. That'll force Po to take Zhen with him since he doesn't know the way to Juniper City. During the journey, they stop at Zhen's house where she do have a family. A poor and loving big family that tied to debts. That'll explained why she joined band of criminals and stealing because she want to support her family. That will gives a lot more depth to her character.
The Chameleon & Zhen lives can be parallel to Po's but end up become different person.

Would have been cooler if Tai Long was brought back, but he escapes and runs into Po who forces him to go help Shifu as as they go, Po helps Tai Long get over all his shit and then the end is him becoming the next Dragon Warrior and reconciliation with Shifu

Dreamworks in general has been extremely disappointing with their movies. First they make Bad Guys and Puss in Boots 2 and get a lot of praise for the great writing and fantastic visuals in those movies, then they throw that animation style and writing down the toilet. Like, just imagine Kung Fu Panda 4 or Megamind 2 (if there was a good sequel) with the same "choppy" animation as The Last Wish

This movie felt like it was more of a special to the "Legends of Awesomeness" tv show than an actual new movie. I knew exactly how the movie was gonna go beat for beat a quarter of the way in and just hated how dumbed down they made Po to seem complete incompetent and have this new random character seemingly be better than him

I'm personally wishing/praying there was suddenly a movie studio dedicated to what movies could've been. Had high budgets without much worry because of the faith of the fans wanting what could've been over what was made ("the customer is always right"). Similar how to everyone hated how og sonic looked before the complete change that made it better, but taking the clips/drawings/voices/etc that were shoved aside and put into a vault. Like what Zootopia or Emperor's Grove original plots were completely different. I LOVE the current, but I wish for the other side of the coin for curiosity's sake, and that's what the studio would use as fuel for re-engineering the 180° movies. Get me?

I get everyone's opinion that Tai lung or tigress should have been next in line for the dragon warrior
    But I my opinion
I think it should have been the skunk from skunk fu ( if anyone remembers the mid 2000's show) I believe it would have fell right in as do that show po is very old and wise and the skunk was trained to litterally defeat a dragon it would have boosted the already dead
