I really like how the rescuees describe how they got stuck. No shame, no embarrassment, just part of their lives. "went forward, got stuck, moved back, made it worse". 👍💪. "We'll get them out!"
It takes mistakes to become a good driver. Gotta put yourself in bad situations to find and expand the limits of your abilities. No reason to be ashamed unless you did something overtly stupid
It's all part of being out on the trails sooner or later you're going to get in a bad way and need help the key is keeping the greasy side down
It never seizes to amaze me that people have so little concern about getting stuck when they drive onto the sand in vehicles not designed to do so. Even the ones that are designed for it get stuck. Oh well.
🎉
Even if you're an experienced off road enthusiast, you're eventually going to be faced with an obstacle or situation where there's a good chance you won't make it, and there's also a good chance you don't have to attempt it either. The ones that try regardless of that risk are the ones that learn more about their vehicle and their skills, regardless of whether they make it or not. And before you say it, I can already hear you now..."but what if you don't have someone there to pull you out, or you don't have recovery gear? It's important to not get stuck in that situation!", to that I say, what on earth are you doing all by yourself on a trail without recovery gear of any sort? Sure, most of what Matt posts are people in the same position, but places like Sand Hollow have tons of capable vehicles that will see you and offer help, and there's also people like Matt to call, so you're never really riding alone in that sense. Go get yourself stuck, figure out how to get yourself unstuck, get some help if you can't, and learn how to do it better next time.
Matt and Crew, thanks for the assist getting us unstuck. It is much appreciated! We watch your video's faithfully and was fun to participate in 1!!
Thanks for letting Matt film, this was worth my time to watch! It's always nice to see customers in the comments too.

From someone who lives in a very busy town in a second world country, watching your episodes is like watching an alien planet. A very cool one.
@@0xsergy I have an RV and these vehicles are insane. These huge rigs are totally alien to me. I couldn't afford the tires for these beasts.
camper trailers are popular up here but those big rigs are very Americana; pretty much wont find them anywhere else.

@@robminch8592 Agreed. I mean, people can drive whatever they want. It’s their money. Not for me to dictate. But when I see RV’s that are the size of mobile homes, I just think… man that’s a little excessive. I mean, come on. Do you really have to take your entire house with you? That was so smart of the owner to stop when he felt it start to dig in. Kept the axle and frame off the sand and made it so much easier to pull out. Smart.
You don't get to be in a position to afford a rig like that by being foolish.
It was foolish of the owner to drive that thing off the pavement at all.
@@katherinecollins9636 Not really. There are plenty of places it would do fine. Just not there.
@@katherinecollins9636 Sometimes you just get unlucky and hit a unexpectedly soft spot but with a lot of hard earned experience you can learn to spot some clues to avoid the bad areas. The problem is that the behavior of sand can change just based on relative humidity so best of luck to any tourist in being able to accurately judge where it is safe to drive. For comparison a typical Concrete Truck weighs about the same and has much fewer axles and tires to distribute the weight across and they drive through worse all the time but, the drivers are usually only operating within a specific geographic area so they have the opportunity to learn how to drive in such off-road conditions with heavy rigs.
@@brahtrumpwonbigly7309 ,
Maybe a hard packed dirt road or a hard packed gravel road. Sand beaches are usually heavy vehicle traps.
Thats a smart young man who knew the engine was quiet and he had to watch the RPMs. Hes already a pro. 👍
What’s the reason behind that?
@@mattvoelker8145 Some folks don't like loud vehicle noise.😎
P
@@mattvoelker8145 Most vehicles are quiet. It's so you can hear the conversation or the stereo, instead of engine and road noise all the time.
I learned to drive by watching the rev counter rather than listening, and the first car I drove that wasn't an instructor's didn't even have vibrations to help except through the gear level.
In my experience, you get sick to death of loud vehicle noises all the time. That's why my sports bike had to go in favour of a big sports tourer; a fancy titanium exhaust sounds great when you're bouncing the noise off the sides of a valley while zooming up it, but less so on the 200-mile A-road grind to get to said valleys. Plus, it was murdering my hearing. Took a week for my ears to stop ringing after this year's road trip.
@@549BR I think he was asking why is it important to watch the rpm’s if you can’t hear the motor.?.. and that is because you make the situation worse if you just spin tires while stuck. You have to be able to pay attention to what you are doing and not just mash the accelerator
9:49 my boyfriend and I went out to sand hollow last year, both experienced off-roaders, we were in his extremely lightweight fozzy... and although we didnt actually get stuck, let me say this: it doesn't matter what type of vehicle you have - that sand is somethin else! Tom's comment, "this will be fun", was spot on.
Holly's bumper is the reason most every other bumper have two recovery points, one each over where the bumper bolts to the frame rails. Otherwise the centered point just creates a convenient lever to tweak the bumper, over and over.
To be fair it was not designed for this. It’s meant to be a lightweight piece of armor and recovery point for this specific rig and for use with winches (and I’ve literally used it a hundred times in the correct manner with no issue). Play stupid games, win stupid prizes and you can literally hear when one of the welds failed as the kinetic rope does it’s thing. Totally my fault for using a purpose built part well outside of its intended purpose.
Hey, cool thanks for the reply. Matt does exceed recommended usage for sure 😂
I never get tired of hearing the Moorvair growl
The wrecker could have been a massive help if she was done!! I can’t wait to see her in action
This alone would save bumpers ^^
But how is that possible for Trump Supporters?
I love these guys! Matt reminds me so much of my dad its uncanny. My dad ran heavy equipment and loved to 4x4, he passed in 2006 and I miss him everyday. Matt's red beard, laid back attitude and smile are all reminiscent of my dad! So happy to have found this channel!

That single tow point in the middle on Holly's rig is always gonna be a problem, unless it is somehow anchored to the frame. She really needs 2 like most other trail rigs.
Honestly I don't follow her for a reason. That's sad though. Why have it if it's useless
Time flies! Another young man going through the basics just like Lizzy was not so long ago ! Matt, you're a good teacher!

Great episode! It seems like since you’ve started the heavy wrecker build there has been a surplus of recoveries needing the heavy wrecker. I feel like that rig will be especially busy when people start testing the limits of their lockers on the new Chevy ZR2 😮
I don't believe a heavy will be needed to recover any of the midsized trucks like the ZR2 or Tacoma.

I love this channel. Matt and his crew are class acts and I see stuff that they do that are extraordinary.
I think you should actually fab up a custom, one of a kind bumper for Holly, instead of an already pre-made bumper. 👍
That gray jeep is a bad a$$, him and Mischief pulled that RV out. Props!
You know what would be perfect for pulling big rigs out of the sand? The World's Biggest Off Road Wrecker.
Somebody should build one of those.
Good morning Hurricane!
Happy Wednesday MORR family! Hope everyone that sees this can strive today! You are the bomb!
There is something special about the Morrvair. I like all of the different vehicles that Matt drives but the Morrvair is the one I would chose to drive if I had the opportunity to take it out for a day of off-roading. The wrecker is pretty cool in it's own right and I think as Matt refines it and makes modifications to it to better deal with the situations that are encountered in the recoveries I think the wrecker will become the go to Swiss army knife and mainstay of Matt's operations. But the Morrvair is the real gem, in my opinion anyways. I think pound for pound the Morrvair has what it takes to make an off-roading experience well worth having.
Just some idea. When you paint your tow points/hooks in a very bright orange ( or maybe matt's offroad yellow is good enough), then you will get triggered when the rope has been taken off the other cars. the bright color will stand out resulting in you remembering that this piece is also yours instead of a chrome or black color that blends in with the rest of the vehicles resulting in thinking this is something thatnbelongs to that vehicle and forget about it. Just a simple trick that will keep your important gear complete so it is availlable when needed. makes life more easy.
Well done guys. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
the 'XL' on the side of that rig was a bit of an understatement 🙂
I can’t get enough of this channel. Matt, someone commented that they couldn’t get enough of hearing the Morvair growl. Well I’m deaf, so what gets me is the way it seems to pounce like a big cat when you take off. Love it!
Lots of planning on that big RV job but it paid off having it come out so smoothly. Good work all around on all these recoveries.👍

If only you had a heavy wrecker...
You mean like the Gigahorse from mad max:fury road type heavy wreaker. Built from two 1959 Cadillac cars built on a truck frame with tractor wheels type.
Matt's old buddy Casey was also out at Trail Hero pulling motor homes out with his 5 ton and his Nodwell. It's a shame those 2 had a falling out. Would love to see them reunite.
I just figured they're both busy with their business family and RUclips I never heard anything about a falling out
@@davidwoermansr I don't think Matt has ever mentioned it, but Casey has answered the question vaguely once or twice. Casey taught Matt a great deal about how to do off road recoveries. He showed him what a kinetic rope was, and how to use it. As Matt's channel started to get popular, I am guessing that Casey wanted to participate somehow in the RUclips business, and Matt didn't want to share it. If that is the case, I can't blame Matt. So Casey started his own channel. But don't take my word for it. It seems like Casey doesn't want to talk to (or about) Matt, but it would be good for both guys if they would bury the hatchet and work together again. Matt has been very generous helping other RUclipsrs like Paul Cox (Fab Rats), Robby Layton. He could give Casey's channel a boost, and Matt's long-time viewers would love to see them working together again.

FINALLY someone that doesn't turn a car off when it's overheating. When the car is off, coolant wont flow and the heat will actually rise for a short time.
What are you supposed to do leave it running until it gets so hot it blows a head gasket and warps the head, or the engine seizes up?

I bet the tour bus on its frame a year or 2 ago was a harder pull
Not sure if it's been said, but that is a Super C motorhome. They're becoming increasingly popular manufacturers build more models, so I bet you'll be pulling them out more and more in a couple years.
I’ve got one on order
Sorry to disagree, but it is NOT a Super C motorhome shown in the video. Super C's are UNDER 26,000 pounds (excluding trailer) and are built on an F550 chassis or equivalent. This one was built on a SEMI Tractor Chassis and obviously was over the 26k limit for Super C's.
@@1nm1 I think your mixed up. Smaller units like on f550s are called ‘class c’. Bigger units built on truck chassis are called ‘super c’.
@@1nm1 yes, I am correct. F550 and equivalent chassis are Class C models and are smaller, and since this is built on a semi truck chassis and is also as big as most Class A motorhomes, it is indeed a Super C. Also Class C motorhomes can't tow 10000+ lbs of trailer on the hitch which i assume this guy was doing with the huge trailer he had hitched up.

"you haven't pulled us out, we don't make that mistake" very bold statement. Can't wait until they need recovered.
Great work you guys. I bet however that with all of your resources and know how that you could build Holy a pretty badass bumper for her jeep. Keep it up !!
Holly wants exactly the same bumper. As she said on her channel, MM’s bumper is for looks and rock crawling, not towing. This is the second bumper she has ruined trying to tow. I believe when Matt adds the reinforcement to the back of her new bumper it will be strong enough for towing.
Holly really likes that particular bumper so hopefully when Matt revisits how it was reinforced the last time it bent he'll come up with a 2.0 version that will hold up better. My thought is a frame mounted "Hidden Hitch" type receiver that ends basically flush with the bumper exactly where the current recovery point is located with a neatly cut square hole for the draw bar to pass through. Put the same eye on the end of the draw bar and paint the end of the receiver along with the draw bar to match the bumper. Keep them independent without welding the receiver to the bumper so the bumper can still be easily removed without having to cut it away from the receiver. Harbor Freight probably has the receiver and draw bar needed for this on the shelf in their local store.
Makes me wish I was local and in a position to drop in to lend a hand on this.
@@neilfromclearwaterfl81 You're on the right track, I think, with the frame-mounted "Hidden Hitch" idea, but I think it's gotta get outta the middle; too much lateral stiffening (pronounced "added weight") required make it beefy enough to never bend again. Instead, fab up TWO hitch points tied right into the frame rails on each side, with simple, square pass-thru holes in the bumper itself. Towing, pulling, recovery forces would be transferred directly to the frame, and having two hard points would enable more and different recovery plans that would benefit not only Holly, but anybody she ended up helping out on the trails.
Epic episode.

At the very least you can agree that the first yank didn't accomplish anything. And it was DEFINITELY not a 4 man job to pull it out. One of the two jeeps, or a single winch line would have been sufficient.
