god i love pavement so much
Agreed.
god I love pavement so mush
almost cry when i listen to this :) love it so much
@@mattarmstrong6478 has that effect on me too, but happy tears, pavement is my feel better music
Me too, pal.
To me, when I hear this song, it reminds me of something very important and beautiful ending. Then I remember it was the end of Pavement.
I just now, all these years later, found this band due to reading about the band blur, and how one of the band members listened to 'pavment'
Mike Keith
better late that never
+Mike Keith funny. That's exactly how I found them too!
this song and album are really great and have influenced many artists. the fragile and introverted harmonies can be heard in modern day indie bands such as kurt vile and the violators, girlpool et al. but to me, being a pavement fan since being a kid in the 90s, it's a hard listen and this song in particular is the band's swan song. there was a lot of internal conflicts between malkmus and spiral stairs during this time. as you might know, there's not a single spiral song on this album, which makes it feel less pavementy and slightly more pretentious than the others. not taking anything away from terror twilight, it's a great piece of well produced record. however, it's kinda saying goodbye to the whole 90s era of great rock bands. i don't think pavement were ever destined to go into the 2000s and somehow i'm glad they didn't. their legacy is so good they have nothing to prove. in my book they will always be the greatest band of the era.
Great summation. I shall add that, in my book, Pavement art the greatest of any era.
This song and Carrot Rope make me sad, because they were their final songs from their final album. Such a beautiful way to finish their great career. Pavement is my most favorite band… .
oh no, here comes the wave of nostalgia
Pavement helped me make it thru the 90's... I played their music in my car... on cassettes! (and they still work today!)
how about now??
@@mcbanie he has a pencil hes good
This should be taught in the class- "How to perfectly accompany vocals with a backing guitar lick 101..."
that is a very specific class
What a fucking perfect song.
It's always interesting to me how this was the first song on the album. It feels like it should be the last, but it actually works perfectly given the context of the band and how the album plays out. They begin the album with a bittersweet and nostalgic ballad but end with a goofy and upbeat song. It reminds me of the funeral practices in certain cultures where they have a big celebration after or during the laying of the casket in the ground. Much like the passing of a person, we should celebrate the memories and greatness that came with the band and try not to be sad about it. Also, Pavement is currently touring as I'm writing this comment so that's awesome.
'Here' was their final live song played before they split. Brixton, London. I was there as SM came on stage, placed a pair of handcuffs on his microphone and announced "this is what it's like being in a rock band"
This song has some of the best riffs ever.
I must say, HIMYM does have great music!
agree!! how are you though hows life these past 9 years??
Hahahaha ive just recently started Himym and I can totally agree with your comment. But out of curiosity, hows life 9years later? Hahahahaha
@@amangoyal923 can you make a playlist?
This is pretty good
all their songs make me so happy!
This should be played in the 3 Minutes before apocalypse. It makes me sad in a good way.
Captured the description of it perfectly
And carrot rope
One of my favorite songs, no joke.
Was a parting gift in my eyes before the long hiatus.
Omg the M40 sign in the UK, at the beginning... Class 🙊
Just watched their set at Primavera '22 and it reminded me of all this band's beautiful melodies and the feelings they conjure... warm golden feelz
I will never stop listening to pavement
Such a great band. Underappreciated. But beloved by those with great taste in music. 😮
love his voice sm
Most underrated band in music history
Pavement forever.great song
The fact that I want this to be the first dance song at my wedding says allot about why I have never been married.
Need a wife?
@@mgmegt5920 I'll take 3 please
My friend's fiance was a roadie. Pavement PLAYED AT THEIR WEDDING. I'm not even kidding, it was epic. They also sang "Shady Lane," but changed the words for the bride. "The worlds collide, but all that we want is a Tracy Lane." 💜
@@mgmegt5920 Hi
Feel ya tho
I wish I was obsessed with Pavement back in the 90s the way I am now. Sadly I was a child and didn't know about them...my dream is to hear Pavement live so I am holding out hope for next year's show in Barcelona!
However you feel,
Whatever it takes,
Whenever it's real,
Whatever awaits,
Whatever you need,
However so slight,
Whenever it's real,
Whenever it's right.
I've been thinking long and hard
About the things you said to me,
Like a bitter stranger,
And now I see the long,
The short, the middle and what's inbetween,
I could spit on a stranger,
(Pour/pull me out)
You're a bitter stranger.
(Pour me out)
Whatever you feel,
Whatever it takes,
Whenever it's real,
Whatever awaits me,
Whatever you need,
However so slight,
Whenever it leads,
Whenever it's right.
Honey I'm a prize and you're a catch
And we're a perfect match,
Like two bitter strangers,
And now I see the long,
The short of it and I can make it last,
I could spit on a stranger,
(Pour me out)
You're a bitter stranger,
(Pour me out)
I could spit on a stranger,
(Pour me out)
You're a bitter stranger.
(Pour me out)
I see the sunshine in your eyes,
I'll try the things you'll never try,
I'll be the one that leaves
You high...high...high
감사합니다~
gracias amiga

I kinda addicted to this song.
Pavement is an absolutely amazing band.
Found out about Pavement this year before i turned 18 and this song makes me so emo it literally feels like growing up Lmaoo love pavement
pavement .... possibly the best band of all time? not because they stuck to indie labels or whatever, but because they are just fucking amazing ..... fact!
One of my favourites of all time
Pre corona looks weird
I love how Pavement chose to include footage of the old King's Cross Thameslink station at the beginning of this video. King's Cross in 1999 was a deeply untrendy area of London, I'd like to think Stephen Malkmus was the catalyst for the huge redevelopments over the last 25 years.
i hope i dont forget this song.
It's great to be young and be in a band.
Love 90's Music. Just a great feel
thank you for saving my life
Serious Velvet Underground Vibes. Love!!
sair na capa da dazed era um evento tao importante na vida deles q eles gravaram um video clipe. q bunito
My old school love of Pavement brought me here.
my fucking good taste for music brought me here
Jesus Christ, I’m so stoked about seeing them next year
Never stops to amaze me what a masterpiece this song is.
i'll see the sunshine in your eyes
this sound is perfect for a tour song.. they are amazing!
I'll be the one that leaves you high, high, hiiigghh.. so beautiful.
Bought this album in a thrift store and haven't stopped playing it.
Maybe the greatest band ever. I don’t even care that Mark E Smith despised them.
To be fair, Mark E. Smith was madly talented, but he was what we could call a "chronical hater" nowadays.
If you found it after himym you are legend. I fukin loved this after listening this first time
Underrated
Pavement and London. Pure perfection
The first time I heard this song, I thought it was crap. Then, many months later, I listened to this song again, and I found a new appreciation for it. I listened to this song so much over the holiday season, I memorized the lyrics! But that was mainly because my sister kept playing her music, which isn't as friggin awesome as this!
Hermosa canción. Escuchandola ahora, a las 16:33hs. en algún lugar recóndito de Buenos Aires.
This is the band everybody should know about. But just I do here in Austria.
amen brothers. pavement.
I hated Pavement when I was 16. Now in my 30s I think they're brilliant.
AJ Smith I don’t feel much about pavement when I was like 18, thought they were boring.but now I love them, probably because I can understand the lyrics right now, I’m 23 and not a native English speaker
Don't feel so bad; Malkmus never changed. You did - in a good way
I loved them the first time I heard them at 18-19. Now after 4 years I love them even more.
@@happydoge1445 you know, you can understand the lyrics without understanding anything at all with pavement...
marcus marcus OK,Pavement,grammar teacher
If I could just write and perform a song a tenth this great I'd be like I channeled some kind of Paul McCartney greatness. A classic.
not really into music videos but this one really got me.
Watching this during Covid
I LOVE PAVEMENT SO MUCH
Heard pavement on Radio 6 music yesterday, while I was doing my homework. Thanks Radio 6 :).
I live in the UK, so don't be worried if you've heard of that radio station xD
So laid back I love it
a goosebumps song- can literally feel it chilling me up.
May 2022 and I’m just discovering this song and album❤️
dont spit on a stranger until further notice...
Pavement stays brown @ 2:24
I know I thought I saw that too. I kept pausing the video to make sure.
Belíssima canção!
❤😊❤
Congrats from Brasil
❤️
I think this video is adorable. Don't know why people dislike this one.
agree completely, seeing them all together smiling is soo heart warming. fits the mood of the song, the beautiful guitar and the gentle vocals perfectly.
Always loved this little ditty.
this song makes me want to cry...not sure why
Pavement always had this rep of being so ironic and “too cool” but goddamn Malkmus wrote some beautiful heartbreakers (Stranger, Major Leagues, Here, etc)
They went out on top...
there is something in this song that remembers me oasis
yeah me the same!
La librairie du Botanique rue royale a Bruxelles!! J'ai marché au même endroit que Malkmus!!!! I have walked on the steps au Stephen
There is a tile on the floor of the Botanique corridor commemorating their concert there. Steven has come back with the Jicks to the same venue.
hearing a lot of Beatles in this one
Darth Bobo Yes In most of thier songs. Especially Shady Lane
Yes, "Dear Prudence".
I dunno why but I would like to see Pavement react to this video nowadays. Such a nostalgic song
Pavement forever!!!
How I met your mother is the greatest show of all time
It sounds like oasis without the ego
funny
nah, not really
Not remotely like oasis.
What a tune. I got this album for my sixteenth birthday from my high school gf. We are now strangers. Adult life is heavy. How sweet it was to be a teenager, of course we didn’t know it at the time. Or maybe we did?
piercingly good ahhh
Pavement is one of those only bands that can make nonsensical lyrics sound so pretty
"A garota sem qualidades" brought me here 💕
Ninguém liga, camarada
Obrigada por me lembrar de onde era♥️
This song has a different meaning in these post-COVID times
Himym brought me here
dude i love that film :" so in love
Essa música tocava em alguma propaganda aqui no Brasil, lá nós anos 90 hehehehe muita nostalgia
tocou na série "a menina sem qualidades" e talvez nos drops que a MTV fazia pra promover ela
This song reminds me a lot of The Beatles

The outro song to Life
I sent my dad a long ass email about how much he hurt me and how I want to reconnect with him so we can be close again yada yada yada. "I've been thinking long and hard about the things you said to me, like a bitter stranger, and now I see the long, the short, the middle and what's in between, I could spit on a stranger" was the first thing that popped into my head after I sent that email which was about 30 minutes ago. I hope everything works out. I've gotta get ready for school, bye.
good luck! 😁
I hope it works out for you! wishing you the best
