Hey I’m a licensed cosmetologist and primarily work on natural clients ! I just wanted to applaud you for trying to do your hair again and taking notes from your subscribers. I just wanted to pass some tips down to you, and I mean everything in a respectful manner.
First things first, I know your afraid of things like high heat and combing/brushing, but improper use that makes those things damaging. As it pertains to the blow out, I’d recommend blowing out right after the wash, the bonds in your hair are more pliable and will straighten from the blow dryer more readily; this will also prevent heat damage, as your hair strands won’t require a lot of tension or time to straighten. Also you don’t have to apply heat protectant to every single strand. These products are designed to spread very easily and will spread throughout the entire head with a tiny amount (trust me on this haha). Also, some people saying heat training doesn’t exist, it does. It is not damage. When your hair isn’t used to being stretched those bonds in the hair don’t easily uncurl, with proper blowdrying and straightening, this will heat train your hair without damaging it. Next, your straightening was actually pretty good, 1/2 inch sections with one long pass will do. I think the error was when you used low heat. Again, your hair is thicker, and not heat trained so it will require more heat to get a sleek look. I would have opted for 400-410 on you. And remember, doing more than 1 pass with lower heat is still more damaging than one long good pass with higher heat. Also using the chasing the method with a fine tooth comb will help smooth the hair. And lastly, your hair didn’t look that different after straightening because truthfully, the key is in the blow dry. The blow dry pretty much sets the bonds, and if they’re not smooth, the straightener won’t help much. Again, I don’t mean to be rude or spiteful, it was a good attempt and I hope you try again with these tips :)

Also I just want to say, if you’re straightening your hair only 1-2 times a year, you’re unlikely to receive heat damage unless your doing something completely out of left field. In my experience, the most common form of damage is from manipulation and lack of trims. That includes, braiding, twisting, etc. it’s just how natural hair is. It’s important to get a professional trim every 3-4 months to maintain healthy ends and to prevent damage from styling.

These tips are perfect . I also realized using a paddle brush with copper lining made my hair extremely silky and smooth from BLOW DRY ALONE. My hair has never been this silky with a blow dry . Furthermore a silky look also starts AT THE SHAMPOO bowl!

I learned that the key to getting the perfect silk press look is by how straight you get your hair when blow drying. Next time I’d recommend using a brush with the blow dryer or one that has the comb attachment that way your hair is bone straight from root to tip!

  • @tiffymiche599
    @tiffymiche599 2 года назад +49

You def did better than the last time but If anything you did is going to give you heat damage, it's putting that blow dryer directly onto your hair strands like that. You should be using a concentrator nozzle. No nozzle means your hair is directly against the metal prongs inside the dryer - which get extremely hot. It is recommended to have at least 6 inches between the dryer and your hair - a nozzle (be it a concentrator or comb attachment) will give you that cushion. It will also direct the airflow properly and if you correctly point the dryer downwards, you prevent unnecessary cuticle fraying.
You used way to much product - but uou know that. And 360-410 is a safe temp range for your hair type with only one to two passes. 340 is too low and requires more passes which, obviously, subjects the hair to more heat. And just go ahead use a comb or brush while flat ironing...you'll get smoother results as the teeth will separate the steands for more even heat distribution- and a comb/brush won't hurt your stretched hair that is already in small sections.
The process start to finish gets way faster with a little practice and a plan of action.. your hours long experience is not the norm. All in all, your hair is quite beautiful and healthy - a more texured press looked lovely on you 💕 I hope you try again in the future.

To get SLEEK straight hair (that looks like you've had a professional silk press or relaxer)
    1) Deep condition your hair with a quality conditioner (Like Dove Intensive Repair) + sit under a
    a) steamer
    b) under a hooded dryer, or
    c) blow dry your hair with conditioner in it for 10 minutes and then put a plastic bag on your head another 10-30 minutes to OPEN your hair's cuticles and then
    2) Rinse your hair with hot (as you can stand it) water and then cold water to seal the cuticle.
    3) Blow dry your hair with a paddle brush or blow dryer attachment or wide toothed comb to pull it as straight as possible during the blow drying process
    4) Take super SMALL sections and
    5) Do the chase method (with a boar bristle brush) while flat ironing the section

    • @TK-dv5pq
      @TK-dv5pq 2 года назад +4

@@annikaa881 Hot water (because of the steam effect it creates) makes the hair's cuticles open--->which allows for the deep conditioner (put on the hair) to penetrate it from the inside out .
This inside-out deep conditioning also results in the softening (silkening) effect on the hair strand from the inside out--->which is what we want for a silky blow dry and then finally for a silky flat ironing during the silk press.
Hot water is not required but water hot enough to create steam is required to ensure open cuticles and the penetration of the applied deep conditioner. Get what I mean?
Basically you are creating steamer conditions without a steamer, using hot(er) water. And then closing the cuticle by rinsing the hair with warm to hot water and then cool water at the end of the wash.

After managing to do my first proper silk press on my own I can say you DO want it to be as straight as possible when you blow dry, that's the key to being able to do 1 or 2 passes. Using a comb or a brush would probably help with that, but thats your personal choice not to use one, and i respect it. Use heat protectant with a serumy/oily consistency, and use just enough(side note, use heat protectant before blow drying and before hitting it with the iron, heat will kind of burn through the protectant, so double dipping is helpful). Your hair will be stiff and clumpy if you use too much. For thick hair or hair that doesn't take heat well, you can use higher heat(i usually stick to 380-90 bc im also scared of heat damage, but 400 or 410 is the reccomendation for thicker hair) and smaller sections. Small sections also help with less passes bc there's less hair to...heat up? Idk how to explain it lol.
You did a great job for someone who doesn't know a whole lot about it and had only does this a few times. As a kid I fried my hair up from not using protectant and not blow drying and a whole bunch of things. I'm glad you came out of this with hair that's still healthy 🙏🏾
I realize this is an old video and a lot of people have already said this, im sure but oh well

I love the determination to get this done in the middle of the night. I would've given up lmao. Also maybe blowdrying with a comb attachment would've made the flat ironing a much shorter process. Regardless, it looks great!!! The VOLUME looks great! No need for bone straight and you can absolutely rock it. It's your hair and it's fantastic, no need for more confidence.

Getting a silk press without damage starts at the shampoo bowl . Make sure you are using a protein based shampoo first , then go in with a clarifying shampoo and follow back with a moisturizing shampoo. Condition then DEEP condition with protein with heat penetration ( plastic cap underneath a dryer ) or just use a plastic cap and let the heat from your scalp stimulate. Then go in with the blow drying process . I personally use aphogee green tea / keratin reconstructed & a silk heat protectant spray by wow that’s humidity resistant . Then I silk press with another heat protectant spray. I use 410-440 degree heat ( croc flatiron) and my hair be SILKYYY.

    Hi ya Ms Acadamia 🤩
You shouldn’t drag the hairdryer over your hair that close without a concentrator nozzle.
Try holding the blowdryer a good few inches away from the hair, I hold mine at least 12 inches away from my hair in order to minimise heat damage.
I also use a wide tooth comb with my hair dryer to smooth the strands and for further detangling.
If you need to do multiple passes using the straightener then I promise you, you need a higher quality flat iron, like CHI, Cloud Nine,
    Or T3.
These brands use a solid pure metal on their plates and not coated plates... either solid ceramic or tourmaline.
Cheaper flat irons usually use alloy metals (ceramic mixed with a cheap metal like steel or tin) and call the plates ceramic but they are mixed metal which affects the effectiveness.
These higher quality irons also do not burn your scalp.
Best of luck for the next straightening session. Xx

You mentioned your hair was heat resistant and you had to do several passes to get it straight. What that imdicates is that you could have turned the heat up from 340 degrees to a slightly higher temp and would only need to do one pass. In the end it's better for hair your versus applying heat several times. It's all about tweaking and customization for your specific hair. For instance titanium flat irons are notorious for their high heat and is recommended for professional use only, wheras ceramic( 💯 percent and not just coated) is better suited for at home styling.

People always think that they are straightening safely until it's too late. You never know which straightening session is going to damage the layers beyond repair. Be careful - I had to big chop my heat "trained" hair.

It's the humidity in the room. You did the press at night so you probably kept the door and or the windows closed. So the heat was trapped in the room. Maybe next of you ever decide to do it again, try during the day when you can do it outside. You hear is gorgeous 🥰.

I like your method of straightening your hair. As a suggestion you can try to use a rat tail comb when using the straightener then you will most likely need only one pass.

It looks great I love the volume 😍. Also if you want to get the roots/edges you can set the outside of the flat iron to it

You are way more likely to get heat damage from doing so many passes at a lower temperature. I used to think that I could not get my hair straight but there are a few things I learn. For my dense hair I go to a higher temperature, use smaller sections and do the chase method with either a brush or comb. It is better to try to get your hair as straight as possible in the hair drying process. Therefore, you would have to do less during the straightening process. I use a temperature of 430 ( I could go lower but rather that temperature), one pass with the flat iron and the chase method. Also, lighten up on the heat protectants, I use the chi all the time and I realized using a little less is better. Looking good!

14:55 if anything, to be on the safer side, probably get it a little straighter with the blow dryer, which may have helped the future results I haven’t yet seen. Also get the gloves that are used for straightening, so you don’t burn yourself if you ever straighten your hair again🥹

A comb could’ve helped it lay flatter as you pass use the comb or after flat ironing it comb the section or blow dry and brush the section out the “straighter” the hair the more it will lay

FYI No grease on flat iron hair, it burns the hair. If you turn the flat iron up higher: at least 400 or slightly higher, you can do 1 pass, and have a smoother press. Try flat iron products as well.

You can try blow drying your hair right after the shower when it’s still damp. And try spraying in the product „WOW dream coat“ before blowdrying, it makes the hair silky and waterproof so it doesn’t get frizzy. I made the test already so I can testify that it Really is a gamechanger, my hair used to frizz up like crazy and now it doesn’t anymore. There are some videos on this product aswell (I watched CurlieCrys). And then straighten with only one slow pass on each strand. That’s how I get the best results and no heat damage 💗

Your hair’s beautiful, as someone who also has type 4b hair I noticed when I want a good press, I take my time on blow drying with a paddle brush which makes me able to pass the flat iron only 1 time ❤️❤️

    some tips guys:
-if u dont have the tools yet, buy a hair dryer/straightener that comes with a glove. if u have them, just buy a glove that will keep u safe from the heat
    -Buy a CERAMIC straightener (must)
    - ALWAYS use a thermal protector (BIG must)
-dont add any products to your hair after you blowdry it
-Its important to remove any insulation in your hair with the hairdryer, but DO NOT overdo it.
    - with the straightener, do 2 passes near the root then only 1 on the length. If it's not straight at first, then the temperature is too low. never raise the temperature above the instructions of your thermal protector and you will be fine.
    - on edges, if they are not straight, use the hairdryer in with medium to high heat and use a thick brush to GENTLY brush them until they look good to u
-if you want the edges even straighter, use those hot combs, do not recommend tho (at all)
    - if you have high-density hair like this girl, try sections as big as those, but if it's not straight after 1 pass, try smaller sections.
    - if u have low-density hair, you'll need sections like hers or bigger, and probably lower heat too, but test it out
    - do not mistake density with porosity, pls
-use a small thoot comb to comb your hair at the same time you're using the straightener
-don't go too slow on the pass, but def not too fast too
-make sure to use an oil after finishing
-also have a good arm game😭
