    Tbh this game does not feel as original as the first when it comes to it's atmosphere and levels, I felt like I was playing TLOU at times but the narrative, characters and gameplay are all vastly improved. Sebastian was such a boring character in the first game but I really like him this time around. His new VA really fits him.

    • @manafon5398
      @manafon5398 6 лет назад +10

      I tought the soty in this game was overdone with too much binge tv - family drama and conspiracy bullcrap.
      At least the first game didnt spoon feed you all that crap in the face and kept it simple

    • @wolfwood1993
      @wolfwood1993 6 лет назад +13

      The first game was anything but simple. The story was an incoherent mess. That shit was easy to ignore though. It's atmosphere and style alone was fantastic visual horror which made it a great game even though the characters and story were dogass. The sequel has a decent story that's easy to understand and really good character development this time but overall it just felt like a survival action game with brief horror elements thrown in whereas the first game was a hardcore haunted house action game from start to finish. Kinda disappointing but enjoyable nonetheless.

    • @manafon5398
      @manafon5398 6 лет назад +3

      So you didnt cringe as hard as I did when Lily turned into fairy dust in Sebastian's arms around chapter 14?
      For me at least, Easier Story =/= better story (I tought TEW1 was a pretty easy to follow from the very first chapter and was miles ahead of every plot twist in the game, the only thing I remember not being able to caught on in my first playtrough was that Sebastian's last confrontation with ruvik was a projection of he's own mind and desires caused by ruvik leaving the stem as the core, hence why the overly done hollywood bossfight with rocketlaunchers and the ridiculous designed representation of ruvik) at least we both agree the first game is better in the other aspects, I can live with that! :D
      Personally I like my Survival horrors with as least sentimentality and manipulative narrative as possible.
      But that's my take on it, your mileage may vary

    • @wolfwood1993
      @wolfwood1993 6 лет назад +6

      The first game had style. The second game had charm. I don't expect all players to appreciate a personal/family oriented story so to each their own. First game is still better though despite it's flaws. The only thing I hated about the second game is the semi-open world areas. They were boring as shit to run around in.

    When you get a chance, try to play and review the evil within 1. I played through it on survival mode which is basically normal and I still died at least 64 times in my first play through. Plus, it's much darker in both its graphics and tone than 2, which I find to be filled with too much color

      Didn’t the first game have issues with balancing, a lack of ammo and weird difficulty spikes?

    • @WinstonHofler
      @WinstonHofler 4 года назад +3

      bizmonkey007 For me, it really wasn’t. Besides, the lack of ammo is the whole point. It forces you to play conservatively and use stealth, traps, or other things to save your ammo for later. If you play it like it’s RE4 with nonstop shooting and firing bullets nonstop, you’re not playing it right. It does have some cheap areas I’ll agree, but overall, it’s pretty fair and expects you to adjust to its style of gameplay.

      @@bizmonkey007 it was. It really was. Ignore what your man said there, it's literally wrong.
      Evil within 1 has a massive problem in which instead of in 2 where we went for a way better atmospheric style horror, it went for extreme resi 1 ammo conversation, in fact I'd say way way more extreme then that.
      Matches needed to burn haunted, or a headshot for most effective kill. But good look with headshots when it takes too many shots for the head to even crit in the first place. If you don't shoot at the leg it's pretty much no good whatsoever. On top of that, upgrades with green gel for weaponry is just extreme. It almost takes way way way too long to do effective upgrades for weapons, and then on top of that youre needing that stuff for critical character upgrades (like getting rid of two second sprint time, and I'm being serious).
      None of that is bad. Evil within 1 is a brilliant horror game too, especially for the extreme survival horror experience. It's just with 2, the gameplay tweaks and weaponry improvements effectively makes the whole thing way way more fun from a gameplay aspect. A way better upgrade system just made this better, also I will also say that the atmospheric style horror this time around creates a brilliant environment, and id say for a very specific reason this game is way scarier, and even without that the story creates genuinely frightening areas throughout.

      Bethesda is the only AAA company that's still decent. The only company that doesn't shit out multiplayer games because that's all the rage with the kids these days, and they publish a lot of carefully crafted quality single player games. What do we have to say about Ubi, EA and Activision? To me Bethesda has always put quality in front of quantity with games like Doom, Wolfenstein, Prey, Evil Within, Dishonored and Quake. I do however am not a fan of their developed games like TES or Fallout, but a lot of people seem to love those.

    I hate the general consensus on stealth mechanics. They are just too easy and don't feel earned. Once you initiate the stealth move, the kill is guaranteed. Having a open hub area in a survival horror game is not optimal for story and horror atmosphere. Really wanted an improved sequel because the first one was janky and had problems, oh well. Rob Nickerson How, exactly? There are many scenes dedicated to explore his past and his relationship with his wife and daughter. He has a character arc as well, since the point of the story is he coming to term with his mistakes and redeeming himself. Definitely better than the first game, where he's a static piece of player character, and his whole backstory is presented through text files.

The director of the first game just becomes the co-director and someone else takes up the spot light and this game really shows both ends of their work. But I will be picking this up on black Friday

    What I hate about this game is how slow everything is. The character moves slowly and runs as fast as a snail. Even when you save a game you have to wait for him to slowly put his walkie talkie on the briefcase then lean forward more, before you actually get access to the save game slots. Going down a ladder the same thing so I end up reflexively spamming the Q key to get him to slide down but I have to wait for him to slowly move. I understand the slow motion adding to the horror but on pc it's just frustrating. You can move the mouse fast and look around but the character's body just lags behind. It would have been better if they sped those things up just a little so as to make it normal speed. I'm not asking for COD super fast moves. Just a normal speed for a game. A lot of the times you die because you think the character would have moved faster but because he doesn't you misplan your attacks a lot. So most of the time I just sneak around and avoid all confrontation as much as possible because I know one mistake will cost me half my life meter and burn through all my ammo trying to kill one standard enemy.

    This is unexpected.
    As for performance, it's funny that GTX 1080ti owners are pretty much the only ones complaining about performance, even when they get 100fps! They look at GPU usage in RivaTuner (honestly, I hate that application so much!) and see that it only reaches 70% or so. And they are like, why isn't it using all 1954670% of my super expensive GPU?! It's ridiculous.

    The joystick controls were not very well designed and trying to get a headshot can be a real pain, I wish I'd used mouse and keyboard instead. Sebastian's daughter and wife could've used a little bit more of exposition as I didn't feel emotionally invested in these characters. I share the same opinion regarding the stealth mechanics. Overall, I think the game was pretty solid.

    i think the game engine powered by id Tech 5 also being modified or customize for this particular game the evil within 2
    and tango called the "NEW"(STEM) engine but they improved with Havok physics they added some middleware to enhanced or improved the gameplay and stunning visuals compare to old one (the evil within)

  • @ParrotMan01276

    I'm pretty sure you like it more than the first game. My friends have been trashing it saying the first one was better. They didn't like how Sebastian was narrating everything he did(I dub this Troy Baker style dialogue and acting) or how Kidman was "ugly" or how the story basically ignored or forgot that Ruvik escaped STEM and had nothing to do with the first game among other things. I have no opinion on this game myself, but I do know that I didn't like the first one at all. So I was a bit at odds with them.

    Lol. I played the whole game with controller and notice now how much it actually sucks. Making headshots was a pain in the ass. The fact that I played Nightmare and had no auto aim was not helping. The game was really difficult with controller aiming. Headshots were nearly impossible. You took 12 hours with all side missions? WTF? I took 22. But I died quite often and played on Nightmare (and controller...). I also had no "eye". I dont know whether they seen me or not. The only aspect it is worse than the first is the horror aspect. Felt the first was scarier.

    Great review! But man, 12 hours? :O The game actually took me closer to 20 hours on my first playthrough. I have been playing on nightmare though which makes stealth really take center stage, and greatly slows down the pace. But it's ok cause now I'm getting my action fix in ng+ :P
    I also wanna say that I'm not having any issues with the framerate either. with a gtx 1070, 16gb ram and an i7 7700k, that game runs near flawlessly at 1440p.
