I really like that the zombies take soo much to bring down, it makes them feel like a real threat. And rewards you for evading them rather than wasting your ammo on every zombie just to get them out of the way.
The only part of this great review that I don't quite agree with is the zombies being "damage sponges". I mean, they are damage sponges but that's pretty much the point of them. It's always been that way in classic Resident Evil games, where the best option for encountering them is often to run past them (without them grabbing and damaging you, of course).
Yeah I agree for the most part. Sometimes you get unlucky and it takes 6 shots to the head and when your being chased by tyrant and can't dodge a zombie its rough. I feel like there should be 1-2 shot between eyes or in the forecast head.
@@NisseDood in the older REs headshots were a thing that caused instant death & i think the shotgun could cause multiple headshots at close range. Kinda bothers me these are not in re2remk. Why not reward accuracy by allowing for one shot kills?
@@peterc504 Probably because that kind of defeats the survival aspect of it. Like the feeling of constantly having to decide to try and shoot some zombies and waste the ammo since they might just get back up, or just try to get around them because who knows if you'll need those bullets later. I mean honestly it's really not hard to shoot a slow moving shambling body in the head. For one shot kills to even begin to work in this setting they'd have to either introduce like 5x as many zombies, or like reduce the ammo you find by 5x, among other changes probably. But again I don't think headshots are supposed to feel rewarding, I think you're supposed to feel a sense of dread/unease as your ammo reserves get lower and lower and the zombie in front of you is still shambling towards you.

@@Gggmanlives Why do you have to say such cringe sh!t? And why switch her costume when her new one is great? It's like you wanna make yourself sound like an incel.
You can literally walk right past the lickers. As long as your not pointing your gun at them you can fast walk right by them, even if you touch them it doesn’t agro them right away. The game will trick you into attacking the lickers first by having them react to you when you move by them, as long as you ignore their movements your perfectly safe. The only time licker are any type of a nuisance is when there are other enemies around to deal with. So really they aren’t that annoying.
It took me a long time to figure this out. Once I realized they were blind, it made dealing with them so much easier. When I did have to shoot them, I just used the magnum and called it a day. A few headshots and.... dead. All that jumping around they do stresses me out.
The zombies should be spongey. The remake actually made zombies dangerous again! Instead of having zombies be flimsy, enemies intended more for gory pleasure kills rather than a threat.
That not how zombies work what made the original terrifying is that when all in group they soround you and you waste ammo doing that insted if them being bullet sponges
"I always turn off motion blur and chromatic aberration because I'm not a trash can" made me laugh so hard. Its so true though, I hate those settings in ANY game!
One of the best games Ive played in years. I'm not a big gamer anymore, and it takes a lot for a game to keep me interested. I was hooked the whole way through
I must say you got me scared there for a moment buddy. When you were saying all the negatives I was starting to become scared and thinking "Oh god, please, don't let this go wrong". But then you categorized them as minor nuisances and I got relieved. Though, I think that you missed to point of 2 things: One are the new areas: I don't think they putted them there to appeal to new players, but to spice things up and not be the exact same game that was in 1998, and I must say, I am very happy of that. I like that they changed some things up, because seeing the same exact things from the original game would be a bit lame (in my opinion). I think they did the same as in REmake 1 where they added new places, enemies and weapons so it wasn't a carbon copy. The second one is the amount of bullets it takes to kill a zombie: While I understand how frustrating it can be to use an insane amount of bullets to kill a zombie, I like it in my honest opinion, because, well, zombies only are capable of moving because of their brains, and to make sure they don't get back up, you must destroy the brain. Let me repeat, I understand that it can be frustrating to not be able to blast a zombie head off with a shotgun every single time, but... I like it. Also, I got three questions: Did you find it scary? I didn't understand what's so wrong about Boss Battles, they seem to be pretty standard, and well, you yourself said that they are, so, what's the problem with them? And third, which one you prefer, Resident Evil 1 Remake or Resident Evil 2 Remake?
I thought he explained what his problem with them were. It's the same issue with how spongy the zombies are. It's all just artificial difficulty with giving things more health and power rather than changing up their tactics and how their AI paths to be more relentless, etc. etc. It's just lazy and archaic. Though it is just a minor nuisance that we ignore due to normalization. I don't mind it, but it is a fair judgement with how they claimed the game would have "adaptive difficulty". It was alright in the old games because of the limitations they had. Which, again, is a fair argument given the hype for this game, innovation would be the crowning piece on the whole package. As for the new areas, he did state that he gets they did it to keep things fresh for veteran players and to streamline the whole experience. Rather than backtracking like hell in the 1st game.
Lonely Heart Productions Well he is wrong about the shotgun, the default shotgun has a short barrel hence it’s very short range, once you get the barrel upgrade that issue is just about your normal aim, not your aim and distance.
Final In this game it makes more sense, since it doesn’t feel fair to swarm you with dozens of them and just make them an instant headshot kill as that would be trivial and not scary. Having them be unpredictable and spongey makes the game feel very tense.
Fantastic review man, I really appreciate how you dont just look at it with Nostalgia glasses but also are not nit picking every little thing. This is a review for fans of Resident Evil 2 by a fan who knows what this game should be. IGN and other reviewers can learn from you!

I’m a very general RE fan. I’m aware of the IP and I’ve watched all the movies. I believe the first RE game I played was 5 back in the day when I didn’t know anything and it was just a cool action game my friend got at midnight at GameStop cause he was a huge fan and I happened to be there. Later I rented it and played through myself. Now, years and years later I see videos about RE 7 and how good it is. I like horror games generally and grab it during a sale a few weeks ago. Loved it. Turns out RE 2 & 3 remake were on sale so I picked those up too. I just finished my first campaign with Leon and started with Claire. I never played the originals and I’m really happy they did these remakes and I can jump right in. I’ve been loving it. RE 2 is great
Started playing this again when I got my 1st 4k 50" tv and have been BLOWN away the difference is massive. I also got some wireless headphones and everything feels all too real now its bad ass. This game is so cool from start to finish.
8:32 a bit late but I think you misunderstood how your supposed to fight zombies in this game, when I shoot a zombie with a handgun, I'm usually not aiming to kill it but to either stun it or cripple it by shooting off a leg, when I really need to kill a zombie, I'll take out the shotgun or the magnum or maybe even stab one to death if it's already crippled, killing something that's already dead shouldn't be easy especially in a survival horror game
It's sad Michael has became such a rear end now who just makes rubbish hate videos for cheap views. He used to be a good content creator, believe it or not.
Ever since I got final fantasy 7 for my ps1 and then a year later got it for my pc which was much clearer, fast loading etc. I haven’t looked back,pc all the way.

Great review dude. I was hoping you would cover this despite it not being FPS because you made that RE retrospective awhile back. I appreciate your balanced look at the strengths and shortcomings of RE2 remake.
It's not perfect to me. The removal of A and B scenarios and Mr X. in both runs was really disappointing to me. I was hoping they would make either run feel like they could co-exist, making puzzles completely different in each runs, or make your second run character notice the changes in the RPD made by the first run. It's totally doable, but they were just lazy in that aspect. The way they did it, breaks continuity, almost as if Leon and Claire didn't go through similar events together, since they do almost the same things. Mr X was way too easy and he should've been in run 2 only, since we already have William, who's much better. I have the original Remake over this one by just a little, since I can't think of anything really bad, just some minor things I was disappointed by.
Cola BotelsOVA I don’t really care about him but the comment itself makes no sense. Leon is a rookie and Claire isn’t a cop. Hell SWAT isn’t even a thing either, its STARS.
The way Capcom portrayed zombies being hard to kill is one of the best aspects of this game. In graphical and mechanical sense this game is among my absolute favorites!
I heard the reference, but I don't feel the need to go in the comments patting myself on the back for understanding the reference, because it's about as mainstream as a reference can get and you're not some sort of genius for having heard the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song once. And for the record, I'm disappointed in YOU.
I'm not a big fan of survival horror games but I'm glad capcom has been pulling themselves out the dirt recently, they've been going ham with Monster Hunter World and RE2. DMC5 is releasing soon as well. As for SF5, it was definitely bad on release but I see it's improved a lot with arcade edition. Honestly that game needs to go free to play.
So cool you get review copies now

You need to remember that early reviews are still on an embargo on information for most games.
I really don't understand how RE1 "backtracking" can be seen as an "ISSUE"
It is just modern player problem. No matter how well it would be done, if someone will hear "game have some backtracking" probably won't even try to play it.
because having to go back to areas you already went to, for essentially no reason other than padding, fucking sucks
@@robert357900 no it's not, people complained about it back when the game was new, don't even try that. Plus you're literally wrong about that second point. Fact of the matter is, it's lazy padding that does nothing but waste time.
@@557deadpool I love it because it makes you remember the layout more.
It not an issue as long as its done right. Otherwise its just adding more unessessary gameplay time without adding new resourses like new places/levels
I thank you for switching to the original Claire costume every now and then. I've always preferred that outfit.
I see you’re a man of culture like me.

I beat leons story in a few days and claire's in one night, i can absolutely say i got my moneys worth.

Just got this game today, and I’ve already finished Claire’s first campaign. Also Yes, I played as Claire first. Why? Because I can.
@@Obscure_man31 Well yeah... its still works like that, since you cant take down multiple enemies that quickly, they are as threatening.

Oh thank god, I was legitimately nervous about playing this game because I am pants-shittingly terrified of those.

I have played a lot of great games thanks to your reviews, you are a trustworthy source
Not even close. Re1 remake is how you do a remake.
I’m gonna pick this game up hopefully soon, I love The Resident Evil series
"I always turn off motion blur and chromatic aberration because I'm not a trash can" made me laugh so hard. Its so true though, I hate those settings in ANY game!
I'm so used to you reviewing old games that it was kinda weird to listen to you reviewing this :d
Though, I think that you missed to point of 2 things:
One are the new areas: I don't think they putted them there to appeal to new players, but to spice things up and not be the exact same game that was in 1998, and I must say, I am very happy of that.
This was my first resident evil game and now I am obsessed - resident evil 3 remake here I come 🎉✅

Glad Capcom has turned the series around. After games like Dead Rising 3/4 and Street Fighter V, I didn't think they were capable of making a good game anymore.
It's made to be reminiscent of RE 4 in gameplay. If you didn't like RE 4, you won't like this, though I would thoroughly recommend trying the one shot demo.
@@thepackardgoose5180 Already have. I love RE4 and this seems to strike a nice balance between that and the older games.
Basically RE7, (With his son, REmake 2, I guess), Monster Hunter World and Mega Man 11 carried em out like a Wounded Soldier back to Base.
And even though there were some rough spots, like SFV's launch, -(Which Ive heard has gotten MUCH better.)- ((EDIT: Last statement retracted: Jury is still out on that one.)), and MvC:I,

Referring to the PC port in 2015.
I'm gonna miss the Corny B-Movie acting from the original games.
Michael Aranda it’s not like the original game is gone
it's still pretty corny. Those games had like Z-movie acting it was that bad.
Funny thing is, the crony acting was the fault of the Japanese sound directors. Basically, RE was always meant to have a serious tone, but when recording the English voices the Japanese director [that didn't speak English] accepted the voice lines that sounded good to him.
@@Guciom What sounded good in Japanese comes out corny and hammy in English.

Man I'm so glad you're the first review I've seen of this
Now comparing this to RE3 it is a masterpiece
8:32 a bit late but I think you misunderstood how your supposed to fight zombies in this game, when I shoot a zombie with a handgun, I'm usually not aiming to kill it but to either stun it or cripple it by shooting off a leg, when I really need to kill a zombie, I'll take out the shotgun or the magnum or maybe even stab one to death if it's already crippled, killing something that's already dead shouldn't be easy especially in a survival horror game
Did I hear a Fresh Prince reference at 2:45?

You're my favorite modern game reviewer. Keep up the good work bro.
I honestly wish there was a fixed camera mode.
If RE6 had this amount of polish and the same amount of zombie sharks and no QTE, it'd be the best RE game in the series. Fight me.
