    i dont see a lot of people pointing out how this boss is *clearly* depicted to look like a uterus and what the implications of that are. So much of Elden Ring is about birth and where life comes from. We know that one of the main things that differentiates the era of the erdtree from the eras before it was that during the time of the erdtree people are born from the erdtree whereas before that they would be born from mothers - and so seeing a boss that seems to be from that earlier culture depicted as a uterus seems like it should have heavy implications

    The boss from the trailer is modelled after a traditional Chinese lion dance. Not dragon dance. A lion dance uses 2 people. The dragon dance uses more. I raise this because the fact that it's a lion feels significant given Serosh, the Omen lions, and the other lion symbolism we encounter in the main game. And there is also the constant recurrence of the number 2 that permeates the lore. So the fact that it's a lion dance and not a dragon dance feels deliberate.

    I think that this will be a stronger common enemy in the dungeon that leads to the lion dancer boss. I also have a theory that this enemy and the lion dancer are not omens at all. But rather worship the crucible and omen kind. The enemy only has horns on its head which is covered by a mask so who’s saying the horns and hair are not also part of the mask. There are no horns anywhere else on its body. Also the lion dancer is similar with the horns seemingly being on the lion mask but not on the dancers underneath. You can make out the shape of a head covered in cloth on the lower figure if you pause at the right moment and there doesn’t seem to be any horns on his head just the lion they are puppeteering. Perhaps this is a culture that celebrates the crucible

    I don't think the new enemy reveal is a boss, nor technically new.
    The candlestick-wielding enemies in the first gameplay trailer look incredibly similar; they're also hunched over though not as dramatically, have similar skintone, bare feet, similar style and color of brown robe, long draping light-colored hair, omen horns, and distinct bracers. It looks like they purposely hid those enemies faces during the trailer, as they're facing away from the camera, or obscured by flame.
    I highly believe this guy is a variant of the candlestick-wielding enemies, with the possibility of being a miniboss, given the new chakram weapons.

    It’s for sure Marika, no omen horns on body, only the head, makes me think the horns are on the mask only. Punishment of some kind for treating her omen children with such “love”. The hair coming out the eye hole makes me feel it’s forced on. Her pose resembles the female reproductive organ, and marika had a lot of children in the name of empyrian succession. The clothes it’s wearing is almost identical to what she’s wearing in the erdtree.

    • @travman1987

      Someone took the image shown in this video of that creature and turned the brightness up. The clothes that it is wearing look absolutely nothing like what Queen Marika has on.
      Marika wears a very thin silky black dress that has a slit in the chest and skirt.
      This creature is wearing a long thick robe that looks very similar to the fell omen cloak that Mohg wears.
      I honestly don’t understand how you think this is Marika at all.

    Not only I'm intrigued by this theory, I'd suggest taking it a step further. It is undeniably depicted in the shape of the female reproductive system, which is interesting on it's own, but I stumbled upon Alfred Kubin's artpiece 'Every Night a Dream Visits Us / Jede Nacht besucht uns ein Traum' (1900-1903) which depicts a female creature with sharpened limbs, her arms in an eerily similar position and her head is covered. The artist is known as a pioneer of symbolism, expressionism and surrealism. In 2023 Richard Drehoff Jr. and the Durham Symphony Orchestra created an audio interpretation of said art, so it was brought to the surface once again in new light. It may be just a fleeting correlation or not even that, but interesting food for thought.

    I really like the enemies revealed so far. They have so much in common with the demigods and gods we know from the base game, but with just enough of that crucible flair to make Golden Order fundies cringe and pretend they dtont exist. Lion themed, uses golden lightning, giant omen feet and horns lol.
    That hairstyle on this creature has too much in common with Godwyn and Marika to be either not directly related, or a deliberate mockery taking the piss out of the GO. The pose of the creature being similar to Godwyn's corpse pose/his pose in the cutscene when he was attacked by assassins/Marika's imprisonment pose, and it also having a stab wound through its back seems like more mockery. If the land of shadows has to do with sleep as you suggest, it would be interesting to know why people dream of "nightmare" versions of their deities.

  • @michaeljohnston8891
    @michaeljohnston8891 4 месяца назад +1

    I think the posturing is meant to be invocative of Godwyn, if only indirectly. I think the pose is actually emblematic of some kind of rune, just how Marika’s crucifiction pose represents her own rune, or Radagon’s T-pose is symbolic of the Erdtree.
    What rune/idea does this pose represent then? It’s simple; Life within Death. The posturing of the upper arms reflects the shape of Marika’s Rune of Life, while the downbent forearms evoke the Rune of Death.
    So why does this at least Omen-adjacent character take this posture? It has to do with its weapons. Practically speaking, it allows him leverage to swing these unusual implements, but it goes deeper than that. The design of his chakrams is very similar to the Black Knives in their black metal, wild and brutal design. I’d bet that these are infused with Destined Death, which considering he’s gonna be swinging those things two at a time, means that the burn effect from Destined Death is going to be even more egregious when we fight him. But, if we can get these weapons, then there’s a good chance its Ash of War is gonna be a top tier boss shredder

  • @TacticalReaper56

    So if they changed from the crucible to the Erd tree... there has to be some over lay. Like omens trying to gain her favor by dressing themselves in gold and hiding there face as to not appear so Omeny. However it would later change them physically more and more. Kinda like then trying to be acknowledged but all futile because the Crucible is old news. Gives it a bittersweet feeling souls games are known for. Least thats my theory. Every things ins Miyazakis (forgive my spelling) are made with respect say for Blood Starved Beast, and the Half alive dragon hanging my its claws in Darksouls. Tjis would be respectable. The omens trying their hardest to earn grace of the new order.

  • @travman1987
    @travman1987 4 месяца назад +3

    The pose is also similar to not only Godwyns pose in death with his hands raised like that. But also Marika in the Erdtree. She is crucified and has her hands up in a similar way.

    I reckon that's a dancers' pose, perhaps in the style of Tanitha, and we're about to experience our second boss 'fight' in the shape of a ceremonial crucible dance festival in the style of Radahn, and similar to the Lion Dance already depicted in the trailer.

  • @benjaminotalora363
    @benjaminotalora363 4 месяца назад +1

    I have two theories about this boss. the more fleshed out one one is that I think she is some kind of omen matriarch. We don't really see any female or female presenting omens in the lands between, it would make sense if the golden order, or at least marika, decided to lock female omens away to prevent even the chance of omens reproducing. Like a comment on here mentioned, her pose is extremely reminiscent of a uterus, which would be an extremely important symbol for a group opposing the golden order, which completely undid the natural order. The gold mask could be worn in a form of mockery, claiming they are just as legitimate as marika and the golden order.
    My second theory is that this might be another kind of dancer we'll fight in the same area as the lion dancers. Not only is the pose symbolic, but it's not exactly an orthodox fighting stance. It also really reminds me of the dancer of the boreal valley and how she'd stray couched down during her fight. We'll see though, I really can't wait for this dlc!

  • @reveriemonster
    @reveriemonster 4 месяца назад +1

    I like the idea that it's a second phase of the lion dance, although I slightly disagree at it's Chinese lion dance as I always associate it with Japanese lion dance. As for the 3 Omens within it and we have to fight it at the same time, I think it's an interesting take. There is a yokai in Japanese folklore named Kamaitachi, including 3 yokais to explain why you get cut suddenly without a knife of sword. One of them is depicted holding a sickle. I'm fascinated with the womb theory as well and wonder how they can stitch the 2 concept together!

    For me the most plausible thing is that this is a boss fight or a completely new type of enemy.
    It feels more omen than omens themselves, like a tribal king / prince / guardian with a voodoo golden mask (which resembles very well the wickerman crucible imagery). It reminds me of the dancer of the boreal valley from DS3. It would be cool if some dlc boss battles are inspired on tribal and ancient dances for their movesets, it also fits well with the ancient crucible imagery.

  • @Slavvin_Gavin

    I have no idea what it is, but I do think it might be a part the omen/lion symbology we’ve seen a lot of.
    We know the golden order likes to adopt/steal/incorporate different aspects (like the dragons).
    So my speculative guess is this could be an old culture/dynasty that had its symbology and heraldry taken by the golden order early in Marika’s reign/ascension and given to the Golden Lineage

Possibly, a Omenkiller, enjoyed his "work" FAR too much, and was punished, to be the very thing he once hunted. Maybe, how much power the Crucible might have left, decided to curse this particular Omenkiller, hoping to set a example. Wouldn't THAT be interesting!

    I think it's still possible to link Godwyn and the Crucible through his corpse's form. While he alone has ownership of the odd mermaid-like body it still follows the trends of the curses of Omen and Misbegotten. The Crucible represents all facets of bestial life as seen in those other than the Omen that stem from it such as the Crucible Knight wielding claw and feather and the Talismans adding hardy knots to the equation, representing wooden bark and possibly shells, as what is bark if not the shell to the tree's inner wood.
    The only things missing in the Crucible are insectoid and piscine features, features we see relating to Godwyn and Death Blight. There is the aforementioned mermaid tail but also how swarms of insects erupt in the completion of the Blight's corrupting effects. It's like, in the merging of Godwyn; death and the Erdtree's roots, those parts of the Crucible may have been absorbed into the new entity and become one with the putrescence.

      Yup! We get into it. Long story short we think it's more thematic than literal. Godwyn wasn't an omen and his body grew into something different from what you'd expect from the crucible.

  • @IamtheSubSandwich

    It could be one of those crystal guys because It has a weapon that looks like the crystal ring weapons. And it could be godwyn because it has elbows. And it could be elden beast because godwyn has a fish bottom half. And it could be an omen just because it has horns and it could also be a member of the Golden order because it's robes and mask. It could also be a tree person because it's Golden wristbands. It could be an omen just because it has feet. None of these..no. okay then.

    2:20 also note - Godwyn’s body doesn’t have any crucible imagery. He doesn’t have horns or anything that makes a visual connection to the Crucible. Other than the fact that where he’s buried may have been the original location of the Crucible. But that’s unrelated and speculation on my part.
    Edit: final meta note: I don’t think FS would release an image on twitter of an important story boss without more fanfare

    i think its a godwyn off shoot, got the same feet as the lion dancer. i bet that's also a offshoot of godwyn, i bet as he's dead he's much more prominent in the land of shadow, the omen have been cursed by the dung eater, his main goal is to curse the golden order, seems he has beef with them, i bet its to do with the sun, sun is not a word in the in game message system, i dint think the game had a sun, thought the erdtree acted as one, but you can see a sun off in the distance at mt gelmir
    ranni goes into a deep slumber a few times don't see anyone mention that yet, she clearly linked even uses sleep magic on kale, wouldn't it be nuts if only half the doll inhabited as miquella gonna fill the other half, bit of a wild swing but its never been touched on why she half hanging out her doll body lol
    seems to me they are opposites in some way, she is 12am dead of night cold and distant and he 12pm high noon, radiant, warm and loved, just another wild thought lol seems like marika and the gloam eye queen opposite in a similar way

    While i love the theory of this creature being the Omens Nightmare, i believe something more dark, more morbid, more evil. What if this isnt just an omen? But The First Omen, if this is the land of dreams accessed by a sleeping Mikala, would he remember the first omen? Or rather, would it be enough of a memory we finally see it ourselves?

      @TarnishedProductions we can only tell with the dlc. I was just speculating about the purple on the horns.
