    In the trailer for Shadow of the Erdtree there's a part where the player is fighting multiple enemies in dark cloaks and they all are holding exactly what is depicted on the wooden tree candle shield.

    If you count the Recusants of Volcano Manor and Mohg's bloody crew, there are quite a few groups of killers roaming the lands. So it's no wonder why there aren't a lot of members of any group: they've all been murdering each other.
    Add in the demigod wars, the spreading of rot and deathroot, the emergence of the frenzied flame, and the Golden Order's attempted extermination of like four groups by themselves, and it's a wonder anyone is still alive.

    The face under stormveil is directly under where we get the Ravenmount Talisman. Before you jump down to fight the Tree Spirit, you find Rancorcall, which mentions Garris, so I feel like there's a stronger connection between the Black Knives, Garris, and the Ravenmount Assassins. My theory is that many of the Ravenmount were Numen who *became* Black Knives. The Black Knife in the cave is just keeping her old uniform for sentimental value.

    Coming back to this video with an insight I think you may have missed, The Death Ritual Spear let’s read its description Ritual
    “Ritual spear used by priests of old who were permitted to come among the Deathbirds.
    The priests became guardians of the birds through the rite of Death, which also serves as an oath sworn to their distant resurrection.
    Spearcall Ritual: Thrust the spear high, bearing prayers into the sky to summon a downpour of spectral spears.”
    Now it seems this weapon is used by priests of old that went through a rite of death which makes you take an oath to be resurrected? Now I suggest that this resurrection is one that turns the oath sworn into a deathbird and the one that drops this spear at the least was a Ravenmount Priest.

    • @square-table-gaming
      @square-table-gaming  7 месяцев назад +1

      The current theory about this resurrection is that we've actually seen it. The priests can be seen wielding their spears inside the wings of the death rite birds. The idea of them being "Ravenmount Priests" is a very cool one, I hope we get some more info to confirm!

      @@square-table-gaming omg I forgot the little tiny birds are in the wings of the one we get it from! That makes a lot more sense than the most powerful deathbird just being a resurrected assassin, it’s a deathbird cradling it’s new young in its wings just like how the priests and assassins cradled themselves in cloaks of black feathers to feel closer to the deathbirds they revered

      @@square-table-gamingback with more speculation, you know the Harpy enemies? The ones surrounded by bats usually “Chanting Winged Dame” is there in game and “Dame” is a high rank usually meaning a woman knight or a woman with the same amount of authority, you also have the rare variant that has the gold headdress on those ones will cast a Rancor spells I believe there the Winged Dames are from Ravenmount.

    Its interesting that the deathbirds are obviously associated with ghostflame of course but ghostflame is cold and it deals frostbite damage, and its rather peculiar the black knives have a singular weakness in frostbite. The numens and the nox seemed to have had a deep connection to ghostflame and the deathbirds a very very long time ago i reckon, but of course Marika doesnt want traditional death rites anymore she wants erdtree births and deaths. I remember seeing an item description that said the deathbirds have only made an appearance again because of the deathroot and prince of death growing in presence and we do see the deathbirds giving off the gold black aura of death blight when they scream almost like theyve been repurposed from their duty long ago. They are children of the twinbird who was likely the envoy of the outer god of death, and its no surprise that once upon a time ghost flame was violet in color, and the black flames also have lost their color as well. I like the theory that the red flames of destined death are only a half of the whole of death, where crimson slays the flesh the cerulean would slay the spirit, meaning godwyn was slain with the cerulean blade of death while ranni the crimson. There are quite literally two sets of daggers associated with death that are red and blue respectively, not to mention the twinbird shield is red and blue. The only question is, if the rune of death was broken into pieces for the ritual, where did the cerulean half go and why is it only crimson remains... Why is ghostflame and black flame devoid of color now. The ravenmount assassins being all but extinct is probably directly because the deathbirds have only recently started appearing again, and if i had to take a gander they too are a shadow of what they used to be. Maybe they werent even as skeletal once upon a time, but fully cloaked in black ravens feathers and shrouded in the violet or "gloam" flames of ghostflame.
    Long story short marika utterly ruined the world by plucking death, because it didnt just stop natural death it broke the very laws of nature and now nothing dies and nothing wants to reproduce anymore either (turtle neck meat description).

    You missed HUGE evidence for Miquella in that cave in addition to the Candle Shield there is also Nascent Butterflies(also associated with Miquella) and just outside the cave you can find both Trina's and Miquella's Lillies AND an Owl will always be on a cliff nearby looking directly at the cave. The owl is associated with Miquella due to the Slumbering Egg item it drops aswell as being nocturnal thus possibly indicative of sleep, night, the moon, dreams etc.
    I've been very curious about this cave but also the architecture of the Hailag Tree someone needs to do a video on that. Especially the pillars just outside the Chapel with Millicent and a single Cleanrot Knight. Also the creepy face door with roots and a beam of light streaming out. Its just past the Rotten Tree Sentinel and Ballista Soliders.

    The sad truth is the Ravenmount Assassins are quite likely like the Dark Brotherhood: Relics of another era, that simply died off with time. The Deathrite Birds are clearly something more than their followers, but the assassins themselves appear human. As whatever religion surrounded the deathrite flames was either burnt out or culled away, the beasts and flame persisted, but the cult wore down, until they become little more than the scraps we find. It'd explain why there only seems to be the one left, and their items are just trinkets left about.

    The Elden Ring artbook shows the Ravenmount assassins were intended to have a truly complete set Of armor and more varied arsenal. The claws, an unique looking curved sword and a weird weapon shaped as a big raven talon.

    • @Grimsly3736
      @Grimsly3736 7 месяцев назад

      Well they were at least gonna have unique gauntlets, Im gonna assume that they were not added due to them possibly giving the player an “added back stab damage” effect that might’ve been considered OP cause the art of them reminds me of the Shadow Gauntlets from Ds2 with the same effect, also the Raven Talon weapon you speak of might’ve been a staff I believe.

    I think we are definitely seeing these guys in the Land of Shadows, possibly we could have another enemy invader being a Raven Assassin with unique armor since from looking at the Raptor’s Black Feathers we have in game the description is only describing the “robe” which is probably just the cape since underneath is just the Bandit set chest piece which I think was Fromsofts way of telling us the assassin we fight is old since it seems he went from honored assassin to then taking up banditry probably due to the fall of Ravenmount then became a bloody finger, heck maybe this will be Fromsofts way of giving us another ghostflame sorcery as well

    What if the Ravenmount Assassins became the Black Knife Assassins? They only would have become known as such following the Night of Black Knives, & both have very clear connections to an iteration of death :)
    So it could be less that they were wiped out & more that they became something new - quietly dissolving the old order so little of it remains?

      The surviving Ravenmount being referred to as male doesn't have to mean Ravenmount as a whole was the exact same make-up as the Black Knives, especially if the Black Knives were formed within? Could be a Numen or women-led specific plot in that vein?

      @@AgionAgion Hey no worries we read all of our comments. Basically this works on the many worlds theory. Every invader or collaborator comes from a separate universe. That's why we can face the Bell Bearing Hunter even after we defeat Elemer of the Briar. It works on the same rules as any other Fromsoft game with this mechanic. The item descriptions always describe where you're going as "another player's world" so we can assume that's what's going on. The multiple Erdtrees in the background while fighting the Elden Beast also confirms this in my opinion.
