absolutely love this game, although its much better as viggos revenge on the ps2. also new quack city is a "tutorial world" which is why health is everywhere and its easy, each occoring world gets harder and harder
The only console I have is a Dreamcast and this is the only game I play regularly (at least once a year all the way thru). Love it so much, near and dear to my heart.
This game was lit back in the day! Always used to stay up at night sneaking out of my room heading over the living room & turning on the Dreamcast playing it non-stop as a kid!
Played this game as a kid, and really emotionally connected with it for whatever reason. When I play it as an adult it's tedious and frustrating as hell, but it's a particularly beautiful niche of collect-a-thon meets tank-shooter that took itself just seriously enough to be a really memorable time.
Thanks for giving me a little nostalgia hit! Viggo's Revenge on PS2 was my jam. I have fond memories of my friend coming over to play the PvP mode with me. It does look pretty awful in retrospective though 😂 I have a list of obscure games from that era i'd love to get a hold off and try out one weekend. Maybe some day!
Love this video bro! Keep making more because you have such a bright RUclips career! Also for this game, the best part was playing the split screen multiplayer honestly. Some of the levels has secret doorways that unlocked super powerful weapons so you could piss off your homies!

Great video!!, I actually really like this game and since not a lot of people know or talk about it, I really like watching the few reviews that it has even if almost all of them see it as somewhat of a bad game, I know the game has some big problems and it's really not that good overall but I just like hearing what other people have to say about it
I've seen that a lot of people do seem to like it. And I think that's great! I'm very appreciative of your outlook and willingness to hear someone else's opinion. Thank you for watching and commenting, dude❤️!
My heart soul a little when I found this video, because (as you joked about), there's really no other attention given to these games really...and your review of it is *scathing*. Was it jank? Absolutely. Tedious? Definitely. Long? You bet. (you have no idea, I'm pretty sure you need ALL OF THE BABIES to even attempt the final boss lmao) But it's got a soft spot in my (and a lot of other people's) hearts for what it is. There are parts of this game that are just burned into my psyche and I really would love to see a full-on remake or sequel one day. Oh and btw, there were iOS and PC versions as well, the PC version's controls were much better from what I hear.
I played this on a demo disc and always thought it was something I played in a dream until it bugged me enough to research it. It’s all real it turns out
Loved this game back in the day. I'd really like to see Nightdive take a crack at remastering it. I feel like they would be the best studio to spotlight this forgotten gem.
Yes... there was a demo version.... my dad and I played the hell out of it.... and then one day (Christmas) ....Santa finally brought us FUR FIGHTERS!!! LOL
I personally never minded he complaints you made…except for the Simon says mini-game, the PS2 port being called Viggo’s revenge, and that version’s change in art style. Hell I actually really like the different kind of controls it has.
I like how we came to same realization about the same time you've mentioned it in this video about recalling a certain level we got to play on that demo disc way back when. I did remember trying to shoot up beavers or some sort of ninja like creatures but as a kid i couldn't figure out dreamcast controls so ive always got massacred lmao.
this game was a spoof of the action tropes of the era, jam packed with pop culture references. if you aren't familiar with any of the the references you're not gonna understand why it's fun.
No amount of cute pop culture references can save horrible structure and padding out game time. I understood the references, but it was still baffling as a video game.
My experience with fur fighters was exactly like yours and that Sega demo disc explains why i love those games to this day the Dreamcast was my first console.
YOOOOOO I LOVE THSI GAME HELL YEAHHHHHHHHHH. 1:23 I GOT ALL THESE GAMES TOO and guitar hero. Man I miss these so much back when everything was more simple. Good times
I loved the heck out of this game, but I gravitate toward the PS2 version for its lighter artstyle and the voice acting which in my opinion was pretty well done. Not to mention the unique music tracks for the bosses and endgame levels (which were super epic). Usually, those memorization minigames with Sgt. Sternhauser rewarded you with a new weapon you might not have seen before. In a similar vein, that minigame where you have 1 minute to raid a store is also the earliest point where you can get the Rocket Launcher, on the second floor specifically. You might've noticed already, but each hub world's music (other than the main village) has a unique remix depending on the character you're playing. I found that dynamic to be really cool. I believe you can also change the controls on the main menu, ranging from about 8 presets if I remember correctly, but I stick with the original since I'm used to it :P You mentioned the gripe of characters keeping the same health after switching back to them; they regenerate over time, but it's probably too slow to be noticeable, so I totally get that. And yeah, the game is quite large; there's like 6 major hub worlds not counting the main village. You were also right about one of the Beaver Dam stages being on the demo disc, as I vividly remember that as well. I also agree that the hub worlds themselves don't have that much to do (except for a couple of later ones that have some rare weapons hidden somewhere). Would've been nice if that was expanded upon a bit. Oh yeah, and the 'puzzle' with the dressers smashing the glass case actually has a hint; General Bristol appears on one of the dressers, not far from the thin rope, and says "Have you heard of the domino effect?" Game had its share of issues, especially the slide-y physics and whatnot, but I found the experience largely enjoyable even to this day. I never really had much a problem with the backtracking, but maybe that's because I played it too much and would probably remember where all the McGuffins are. I still wish this game had another remake somehow; I'm sure it's possible to make it a much smoother experience in the modern day. It's been interesting hearing someone else's take on it. I enjoyed the watch o/
@@fg4saul542 that's true, but I bet the game would have been much easier with a mouse and keyboard! If I can find a PC copy I'd like to do a follow up to this video, lol. And thanks so much, dude❤️!! I appreciate you for watching!
How do you have such little subs and views... Love your content dude this is the first video i seen anf intend to enjoy your catalog over the next few weeks after work
@@therealtijuanaman hahaha okay. you could say that about any old crime/mob movie where there's a big boss in charge. Unless the big boss of that movie captures the heroes family members, brain washes them, and tells them to kill the heroes while they're running around trying to rescue their own individual children, I think it's a bit of a stretch.
Games were much harder back in the old days. Nowadays, everything's spelled out and streamlined. The problem with that is that it's far less rewarding when you achieve the goal. When I got stuck on Fur Fighter puzzles, it was very frustrating, but when you eventually figure it out, it's an amazing feeling. That's why this game is so good: it's just the right level of difficulty where you get hours of gameplay but leaves you feeling like you've actually won something, rather than followed an instruction manual. With that in mind, the complaints in this video just sound like you get frustrated whenever you have to guide yourself, rather than let the game dictate the play. For example, the section about the teleportation bubbles - around 16:00. Your complaints can basically be summed up as "I had to figure out this puzzle without the game laying out every step on a plate before me; therefore, game bad." I dread to think how you'd review old Pokemon games if this is the standard you go by! I spent HOURS on this game. Many, many hours, and I still look on it fondly 20+ years later as one of the best games I've ever played (PS2 version, mind.) Good video. Wrong opinions, but good video. ;) Edit: Just got to the end of the video... In what world is more gameplay bad? "15 hours?! I only wanted 3 hours of content! What a rip-off!" I can imagine that sort of complaint for a movie... but a game?!
you know there are some interesting ideas here. I was going to say if someone were to remake it today, not even the graphics, jut the gameplay it could be cult classic. then you mentioned they actually tried to remake and failed which is hilarious
The default controla for this game are basically just southpaw, with a bit of a holdover from top down shooters on the SNES. It's not that difficult to figure out. You do get used to it.
@@CommandPromptGaming it’s all the little details that make it the best game ever made in that era of gaming. It seems to me like you missed a lot of the little things that make this game so great.
if i recall aren't the police seagulls? or pelicans...apparently birds run this city lmao but if you notice..many of them are clumsy and stupid so maybe ' quack ' is a hint at how cooky the place is
I know i Played this game just because the intro Catched me the first 2 hours were great but after that it was more work as fun i just played to see the next cutscene and after the second Area i could play it anymore.
@@CommandPromptGaming Ah! I watched a little and as soon as I saw it was the Dreamcast version. I reacted quick. The big difference between them is graphics, voices, new cutscenes and that Dreamcast is 60fps vs PS2's 30fps. I'll take the PS2's refinements over what you get on Dreamcast. Also the reason the voices are missing on the PC port. Is because I believe the people who ported it believed the voices are insensitive by today's standards. I'd of just put a screen at the start saying it's a product of it's time. But guess we get those awful sounds they make now. And yeah the Controls should of been improved on PS2. They are pretty much the Dreamcast controls and they are not the best. But get past them, and there is a really fun game there.
@@CommandPromptGaming I liked your review by the way. Man! You fucking hated this game. I love it. You start unlocking Bizarre Creations mini games later on as you save more babies. Things like an early version of Geometry Wars and mini games which show up in Project Gotham Racing. You go to a level that's like NASA's HQ later on and a mini big world also if I remember. Yeah I really like it. Other than those controls. I'd reccomend strafing left and right more. It helps a lot.
I played this back on my ps2..I loved it but I recently got this game on my emulator and changed and tweaked the controls to my left stick so I had a better time when aiming giving it a more modern feel or atleast how I felt it should've been made the gameplay 10x better
I'm at 13:00 into the video so far...... and I better be hearing.... "the game was trying to accomplish too much at once amd was before its time" here soon. In the modern age.... we have 2 joysticks.... bring this game back now, and tweaked, I think it would still be a great fun game and only better.
For me it was the best game of my childhood, can't deny its charm. I remember my father helping with some weird platforming there lol the controls were terrible indeed Recently emulated it and the ps2 version feels better than dreamcast version so I just continued there. I also really liked the visual style of ps2. And personally I think what dreamcast did about character voices was more unique, tbh it should have remained the same for ps2 version instead of giving them actual voice actors imo the voice acting is just bland and generic and they don't have great writing anyway.
Right, I grew up with this game and no-one has ever heard of it because it was on the badly sold Sega DreamCast but guess what? We had a DreamCast and my Dad and I played the shit outta the games available. There were so many games that I can remember playing but have absolutely no clue astoo what they're called and then came along Fur Fighters. Taking the piss outta the control scheme is like having a laugh at Halo3's vs CoD, to make that point is irrelevant. New Quack City, it's furry territory. As far as my dad and I could figure it was a play on the Quaks in wall st. Like they talk so much its a quack? Looks like that flew over your head Kid. Fur Fighters is the BEST RPG/TPS I have ever played and I wish I could play it again, even speed run it, Fur Fighters is the bomb! After typing all this If come to the realisation that this is a piss-take/comedic so yea.
The controls are fine I played quake 3 online with no problems but mouse and keyboard or 2 sticks is better. The problem with this game is all over the place and there is a good game that needed more time but they didn't have it because of the Dreamcast being canceled. The game was delayed I believe twice. So the game has very little direction and makes it boring. The gunplay isn't fun not because of the control layout but because of general refinement. The games main selling point was that it had an online deathwatch mode which I do not know if it made it to retail I don't think it did. It was a cutesy game that kids could play but also violent for more mature audiences so it was a meld so you could play it with your kids. Also in the mp you were supposed to be able to shoot off heads and limbs with fluff flying all over. I bet you can see how this game was supposed to be if it had been given the proper budget and time. Technically it is a bad game because of lack of refinement like the firefights are boring but it was also very rare to have a game that was a 3rd person shooter with those types of controls
The controls are technically useable, yes. But trying to go back to a single stick shooter like that is very difficult. And yeah, I'm sure a multiplayer suite could be a lot of fun. Even if it was given mouse and keyboard support or even twin stick input, the structure was too tedious for me. God bless anyone who can have fun with the shootouts and the back and forth of getting the babies, but it's not for me. The concept isn't bad by a mile and I would love to see it revived somehow. Thanks for the comment by the way💪.
The point in this game is the culture, some references of other games as a joke, And the ART behind this game, If you Go to some other stages you Will understand what's so beautiful, this is a time spending game, where you dive into this world, it's an urban culture And underground shooter. fu*k'n peaky fury blinders you see.
If you're going to sit there and tell me that the point behind a game about a "secret island that's home to a clan of colorful animals who have extensive training with firearms, battling an underground crime organization of stuffed animals" is art; then I have to tell you that you're reading much too far into this game. It's ambitious for a Dreamcast title for sure, but it's also boring and tedious. I very much appreciate you for watching, but that's just silly😂.
@Command Prompt I got your point, for me it's not tedious at all, it's not the same old crap we see today, the industry Just get the best "new Idea" that everybody love after some underground Company was almost tired of this kind of point of view, And for some reason "wow what a lovely video game, that's not the same sh*t that I'm tired of" haha And the producer doesn't even know what's so great about It, they tell a story, put in some wild concept the player don't get the point but it sell anyway , then some copycats come into the play, use the "Genius Idea" Fu*k the hole sh*t UP And guess what, same sh*ty video games again. We need some Studios working on more titles like this, get a Nice engine, get rid of thous bugs, And put this sh*t to work like it's spouse too, but the amount of bad feed back like yours Just don't give a Nice profit, And maybe you would love it in the Future!
i wasn't born in the 1900s but my step sister had a PS2, and i played a lot of games on there im not an adult or anything (im only 13 right now lmao), but i remembered trying out this game i was like 6 and i got too scared to fight the bears but i loved the homes of the fur fighters a few years later i wanted to try it again, i loved the music and it was really nostalgic even tho i wasn't really in the PS2 era. But, the storyline was kind of odd. I mean, I looked at the ages and these are 2-8 year olds shooting people??? I thought it was a kids game- But anyways I found it funny, I still enjoyed the game but I never beat it lol There's actually a secret room I went to (i can tell you how to get there if you'd like, its so easy) but since the storyline is kind of confusing, I wish they made more backstory about Viggo and why he hates the fur fighters so much. I love the game, but I respect your opinions about it. I liked your video too, so ill sub ^^
Those are the kind of stories I love to hear, lol. I bet you and your sister are pretty close, huh? And yeah, the enemy designs are pretty off putting. But the music is pretty good from what I listened to. And I appreciate you listening to someone else's take on it! Thank you do much, my dude❤️.
I loved this game on the Dreamcast and got the PS2 version a few months ago. I had a hard time playing it. Were the controls of the DC version so different compared to the PS2 version?
Furfighters was the first game I could remember as a child and a while ago I had a major craving to replay it because of the fond memories. But I found the controls unbearable, I just couldn't bring myself to play through it.
Ever hear of Cyborg-Kuro Chan? 😋 It was a comic (1997-2001) and cartoon (1999-2001) that was quite popular in Japan, Italy and the Spanish/Arabic world. It revolved around a Sonic-like cat with a bad attitude and a chaingun, right during the era of this game. Fur Fighters always reminded me of that series.
Totally fair. Nostalgia is a powerful thing, and I'm glad you did! I probably would have felt a little differently if I'd played with a mouse and keyboard.

@@CommandPromptGaming haha it's fine. I'm only kidding. My affection for the game likely stems from nostalgia. Because anybody can see the game isn't exactly a picasso.

Absolutely.
Tedious? Definitely.
Long? You bet. (you have no idea, I'm pretty sure you need ALL OF THE BABIES to even attempt the final boss lmao)
But it's got a soft spot in my (and a lot of other people's) hearts for what it is. There are parts of this game that are just burned into my psyche and I really would love to see a full-on remake or sequel one day.
Oh and btw, there were
iOS and PC versions as well, the PC version's controls were much better from what I hear.
He definitely chose a "negative approach" for this video. It's a shame.
I played this on a demo disc and always thought it was something I played in a dream until it bugged me enough to research it. It’s all real it turns out
Shoulda stayed a dream, mate😮💨.
@@CommandPromptGaming I’m having a great time unlocking demo disc dream memories. 18 wheeler!
LOL
"take a bite out of combat"
I see what you did there.
It was a fun time being a Dreamcast kid😌.
I believe you can also change the controls on the main menu, ranging from about 8 presets if I remember correctly, but I stick with the original since I'm used to it :P
You mentioned the gripe of characters keeping the same health after switching back to them; they regenerate over time, but it's probably too slow to be noticeable, so I totally get that.
Oh yeah, and the 'puzzle' with the dressers smashing the glass case actually has a hint; General Bristol appears on one of the dressers, not far from the thin rope, and says "Have you heard of the domino effect?"
Game had its share of issues, especially the slide-y physics and whatnot, but I found the experience largely enjoyable even to this day.
Omfg....i remember this game...i liked it back in the day.
I actually loved the PvP mode.

The ps2 cover art is so much more badass than the Dreamcast
I actually preferred the aimless puzzles. Made you experiment how to complete said task.
More power to ya, dude. It drove me nuts, lol.
It's called New Quack City because it's a play on the film New Jack City
Was this confirmed in a developer interview or something?
@@CommandPromptGaming wtf, no dude it's just obvious.

Aww this game takes me back!! My older brother and I used to love playing the vs modes!!
Damn. Bro just absolutely shitted on my nostalgia 😅
This is the first game i played. What an experience
i loved this game. it’s so bizarre. also it’s a play on New Jack City
Your complaints can basically be summed up as "I had to figure out this puzzle without the game laying out every step on a plate before me; therefore, game bad."
I dread to think how you'd review old Pokemon games if this is the standard you go by!
I spent HOURS on this game. Many, many hours, and I still look on it fondly 20+ years later as one of the best games I've ever played (PS2 version, mind.)
Good video. Wrong opinions, but good video. ;)
Edit: Just got to the end of the video... In what world is more gameplay bad?
"15 hours?! I only wanted 3 hours of content! What a rip-off!"
I can imagine that sort of complaint for a movie... but a game?!
you know there are some interesting ideas here. I was going to say if someone were to remake it today, not even the graphics, jut the gameplay it could be cult classic. then you mentioned they actually tried to remake and failed which is hilarious
One of the best game on Dreamcast
The default controla for this game are basically just southpaw, with a bit of a holdover from top down shooters on the SNES. It's not that difficult to figure out. You do get used to it.
Easily one of the best games ever made, you didn't mention all the pop culture references like "resident weevile" and "shen moo" either.
So pop culture references make this "one of the best games ever made?"
@@CommandPromptGaming it’s all the little details that make it the best game ever made in that era of gaming. It seems to me like you missed a lot of the little things that make this game so great.
@@killadelph7245Conker would like a word.
I feel like if you don’t like this game, you could at least like the soundtrack. I really enjoyed it, especially the New Quack City theme.
The soundtrack is pretty good from what I remember.

The demo I had was Fur Fighters 2 and MDK 2 Armageddon I don't remember the others
if i recall aren't the police seagulls? or pelicans...apparently birds run this city lmao but if you notice..many of them are clumsy and stupid so maybe ' quack ' is a hint at how cooky the place is
I never got to the second area, sadly I got stuck at the tall towers that fall over and had no clue what to do.
you're not alone, brother
I know i Played this game just because the intro Catched me the first 2 hours were great but after that it was more work as fun i just played to see the next cutscene and after the second Area i could play it anymore.
You should of reviewed the PS2 port. It's way better. Even has voice acting. And new cutscenes. Loads of other stuff.
I talk about it in this video. I still didn't like it. The controls were still pretty atrocious in both versions by my count🤷🏻♂️.
I found the PC had good controls personally and I loved it
@@TheClarity101 I could imagine playing the PC version would be much better to play all across the board
Easily one of my all time favourite games.
really good one! just playing at with my girlfriend on dreamcast and we love it
Hey.... just sayin... to anyone out there playing Overwatch..... I set my left trigger as JUMP for my Lucio
...
I played this back on my ps2..I loved it but I recently got this game on my emulator and changed and tweaked the controls to my left stick so I had a better time when aiming giving it a more modern feel or atleast how I felt it should've been made the gameplay 10x better
My cousin had this game.
.... that's all I know about this game.
I played the 2nd I didn't even realize it was a remake
OMG This was my game! When I was young🥺😍
I remember my father helping with some weird platforming there lol the controls were terrible indeed
Recently emulated it and the ps2 version feels better than dreamcast version so I just continued there. I also really liked the visual style of ps2.
And personally I think what dreamcast did about character voices was more unique, tbh it should have remained the same for ps2 version instead of giving them actual voice actors imo the voice acting is just bland and generic and they don't have great writing anyway.
Oowwwwh maa gaad I luv fur fightas
I played fur fighters as a standalone on ps2 and i thought it was awesome
I was listening to a ps2 music mix and this game came up and I was like, “tf is fur fighters????” I had to find out.
Music ain't half bad. But the game...😬.
10:32 oh you mean spryo 3, yes, they call them eggs but they hatch each time you get one so your not really collecting eggs, your collecting babies.
❤️❤️❤️❤️ love this video bring back all the good memories 🥲
i love that game
This game is awesome!
I think it's a great game .
The point in this game is the culture, some references of other games as a joke, And the ART behind this game, If you Go to some other stages you Will understand what's so beautiful, this is a time spending game, where you dive into this world, it's an urban culture And underground shooter.
fu*k'n peaky fury blinders you see.
Same for Worms Armageddon
We need some Studios working on more titles like this, get a Nice engine, get rid of thous bugs, And put this sh*t to work like it's spouse too, but the amount of bad feed back like yours Just don't give a Nice profit, And maybe you would love it in the Future!
i wasn't born in the 1900s but my step sister had a PS2, and i played a lot of games on there
im not an adult or anything (im only 13 right now lmao), but i remembered trying out this game
i was like 6 and i got too scared to fight the bears but i loved the homes of the fur fighters
a few years later i wanted to try it again, i loved the music and it was really nostalgic even tho i wasn't really in the PS2 era. But, the storyline was kind of odd.
I mean, I looked at the ages and these are 2-8 year olds shooting people??? I thought it was a kids game-
But anyways I found it funny, I still enjoyed the game but I never beat it lol
There's actually a secret room I went to (i can tell you how to get there if you'd like, its so easy) but since the storyline is kind of confusing, I wish they made more backstory about Viggo and why he hates the fur fighters so much.

Because it's a lot like banjo. And of course it's not a review, I only played the first level.
