In not a fan of using plastic to crank anything. One day it ends up getting hard to turn and you use force and the handle ends up breaking
True.
The nice thing about this is that it can be used where electricity isn’t available. The difference between “just right” and “too fine” is kind of dependent upon how the items will be used.
Seems like chopping blade is better for dryer items. Vegetables with a lot of water just get mushy.
That's a great observation.
@ Jordan well you can freeze the vegetables then grind it🤓
LoLAwesomechad
I was wondering the same thing, about the blades.
I would call that one the mincing blade laugh out loud
Thanks
I found your channel when you made your purple pillow review. Ever since then I find myself watching every video you have. Always hoping that you will post a new video. Really good videos James! It's always funny and informative to watch you review products

I have a similar product that I got for about $20. I will say this: If you are preparing large amounts of vegetables, it definitely saves time. If you are making a meal for one or two, it doesn't due to the setup time. I used it to make food for 4 days at a time and it cut my time in half.
Northern whisper ASMR Good point. I have a 30-year-old Kitchen Magician and agree. It's a godsend for slicing veggies for soups.
One of the things that bothers me is shape of the barrel/ blade thing. Because it’s round it seems like it cuts a u shape out of the vegetables, and I also cringed watching layers of cheese and celery spin around caught in that weird no mans land between the wall and the blade
Hah I love the "no man's land" description!
Some of the cheese never made it out of the shedder that day some still say they are stuck.... In no man's land
I would buy it just for the grated cheese. I only use block cheese and I'm hand grating it everyday. I have several food processors but the clean up is a pain just to grate cheese. Thanks for the review😃
Christy's Cooking Channel I grate cheese everyday as well, but I'm just too cheap to use anything but a hand grater.
Dweebenheim LOL!! James grated that cheese so fast, I think $20.00 is worth it. I know what you mean though😃
Christy's Cooking Channel I'm the same way. Nothing truly replaces a knuckle buster. However, getting older sucks. Now that my hands just can't do that anymore, I bought a knock off of this about 6 months ago, and it does what I need it to- mostly grating cheese.
I've learned to use it for other things, like making scalloped potatoes, or chopping onions. I agree with James, that the finest blade is almost useless, but have found it's useful for drier things or juicing things with a higher water content.
Clean up is important, and having used my momma's Kitchen Magician, I think that was a little easier to clean, but the Nutri-Slicer fits easily into a drawer when broken down. That definitely makes it worth the $12 I spent on Ebay.
Cheers!
tdsm19 LOL!! Knuckle buster is so true😂😂I went ahead and ordered this one, since I have Amazon Prime, free shipping. I'll be grating that cheese fast come Monday😂Glad you got one similar, anything to make our lives easier, I'm all about😃
Just buy a salad shooter. Faster and not that expensive.
You are so thorough with all of your reviews, I love watching them! Keep up the good work.
Great review! This thing definitely looks promising. Those rubber seal things that are supposed to stick a device to a table are notorious for "un-sticking". I have a number of crafting devices (die cutters etc) that employ the same method for making the device stable....and at best you tend to get a few minutes at most. Sometimes dampening the rubber helps a bit, but usually you just have to "re-stick" it every few minutes to keep it stable, I've just learned to deal with it! I use a lot of walnut meal in cookie recipes and this thing would be grate (get it?...grate/great...lol...yeah, umm) for this. I tend not to like food processors, they are huge and I hate to clean them.
This channel is definitely one of my favourite! So professional so well made so funny to watch!
You could make a bowl of fried potato chips with that thing, and the power air fryer!
Cool, that was exactly what I was looking for to use with.
The fan university that's not a comforting idea. I want my head to be warm and dry not burned alive.
I wonder if one could shred cheese with it, dip blobs of the shredded cheese in a batter, then air fry them.
@@cannedmusic my mind must not go there.
I was thinking the same thing for the zucchini and summer squash slices.
Back in the 70s we bought a Rival product that was almost the same thing, except it was all metal but for the rubber vacuum base and it worked much better than this thing. It had 5 different blade inserts, and also came with a meat grinder with two different grinder blades, fine or coarse. We ground a lot of meat with that thing. It worked great and never came loose from the countertop. This is a pale imitation of that device and as usual, with almost 100% plastic parts, bound to either break and/or end up in the cabinet gathering dust. Here's the proper ad campaign = Coming SOON to your local Thrift Store....
@@joshrogan4015 lots of Popeil and Ronco stuff around then including weird LPs with mixed popular songs.
@@joshrogan4015 Ron Popeil had all sorts of kitchen gadgets including slicers made by those companies. That was a big thing in the 70s. You bought them off of TV commercials.

Lettuce, cabbage and onions all have a very high water content ... they rarely work well when cut, sliced or chopped very, very small ... more mush than anything else. When grated or sliced using a larger cut, they work much better. When grating or slicing each of them, if you cut across the layers instead of into the side of the layers, you will get a much better result. Any fruit or vegie that grows in layers should be cut across the layers instead of into the larger surface of the layers.
@Jo Ann McCraw - Yup. I noticed how he was doing it and cringed. You end up juicing instead of shredding. These things have been around for many years. This is not a new item. My La Machine from Moulinex did the same thing back in the 70's.
BLOODY GENIUS JOANN!
Looks like a manual version of the Salad Shooter! Same three blade configuration and all. You really need to use the slicing blade when you're shredding cabbage for coleslaw or sauerkraut. Works perfectly. The only thing the smaller of the two grating blades is really good for is grating hard cheese (parmesan, etc.). or grinding nuts practically to a nutmeal. Try the larger grater or even the slicing blade for larger chunks of walnuts. Love your reviews!
Reminds me of my Snoopy snow cone machine when I was a kid.
I use the onion juice in my potato salads, mac salads, etc...I get the onion flavor without having to eat a chunk of onion!! Thanks for the review! I think I'll buy this, esp for the cheese!🧀🧀😊
Kristine S now that's a really good idea. How do you retrieve the juice?
Kristine S That's what I do Kristine!
Jen Christiansen you just grate a wedge of onion with the fine side of the grater and it will come out mushy. That's the best kitchen trick that I use!
20isaBeast thanks so much 😀
I still use my Kitchen Magician I bought in '85. For $20, this is so worth it. Buy it! 😀
This seems like it'd be really good for shredding and making homemade chips! Great review!
mipmipmipmipmip did you not watch the full video? A potato fit fine in there and made good size chips.
The amount of pressure and the consistency of the pressure makes a huge difference in the results. The chopper ... one with the smallest holes is best used with more solid food (nuts, very cold hard cheese and even hard dry bread). Now, having said that, it can also be used to make 'mush' of your veggies for your baby/toddler and/or someone with no teeth. OR a fast cook when added the last minute to soups ... retains more nutrients, flavor and fiber. ;-P
You are my go to for TV reviews. Thank you for your comprehensive approach. You save us a lot of money my friend!
I enjoy watching your videos. Open and honest its refreshing. Keep it up.
The reason things get so mushy and inconsistent in sizes are that the "blades" are not sharp enough. They are crushing, rather than cutting.
So this is definitely a low quality product.
good review, I remember seeing the Ronco infomercials for the Kitchen Magician (or whatever it's called) and would love to see you do a comparison of a classic "as seen on TV" product with some of the newer variations (lower cost versions) of a manual food processor...
The issue with it coming unstuck might be fixed with a little bit of water on the suction cup not a lot just take a damp cloth or paper towel to it. I find that helps suction cups stick better
I am thinking this same thing!
Great review, I just bought one yesterday and before I open it I wanted to see how well it will work. Especially great to see you did a comparison of 4 similar products at the end. Thanks to you now I have the confident to open it and try it for myself. Will look forward to more of your videos. Thanks
Great content man keep it up I have watched everyone of your reviews
I really appreciate it!
Best review channel on RUclips.....but does it shred people??? Asking for someone...
Stick your finger in it and find out.
@ Video Game Sanctuary, you are soooooooo funny 😂😂😂
@ David Hall, very hilarious! Thank you all for making my day! 😁😁😁
You keep mention your dad using the Magic slicer. You dad cooked? Sounds like a cool dad.
I have the same one I just love it . Thanks for taking the time to make this video
Great review but where was Bailey? 🐶
Her contract lets her skip every few videos so she can go on vacation.
Freakin' Reviews I hope she enjoyed her vacation!
Bailey has a good agent
I love Bailey. Hope it was a wonderful trip.
The reason it wasn't uniform was cus you were pushing the celery in the corner and it was going over the blade
with how thin it slices some of those things it could be great for dehydrating fruits and sealing them up.
Love your videos just to learn what works and also for the entertainment of the products that fail!:) Seems like product testing runs in the family! Thanks for the videos. Love from Canada
Is their another family member that make videos? 👀
Love your channel I work at bed bath &beyond I watch your videos and give people advice when they want to buy something that you put a video on, keep up the work
Zucchini through the chopping blade would be perfect for zucchini bread (it certainly beats using a cheese grater).
Notes: 1. Apple slicer would be great for apple pie filling. or potatoes for au gratin. 2. I've never encountered a suction cup bottom on a device that actually worked. my familiy had several different types over the 80s and 90's and they apparently haven't improved on the concept. 3. The fine (chopping?) blade looks like it could be good for very dense but not hard foods.
Question: is this study enough to grind ice? Or more likely, frozen fruit?
I would say probably, at least until the suction cup loosens. You'd really need some elbow grease for that I'd think.
Freakin' Reviews thanks for the quick reply!
The apple slices are way too thin for apple pie. Perfect size slices for apple pie is about 1/8". These were half that size so you'll end up with a mushy pie for sure. Sometimes you just can't beat a good old fashioned sharp knife.
Applying a little bit of water always helps with the suction cups
Recent subscriber. Great review as usual. My mom LOVED her Kitchen Magician. Thanks for memories.
Great review man. I just bought a manual grater/slicer to keep from cutting my fingers when I cook. This video helped me to know how to use the attachments and features. Keep up the great work. Good camera work too.
For this and any items that "stick" with a vaccuum, moisten the bottom with the wipe of a sponge. The seal to the table will be better. I had a Salad Shooter that had similar grinders and the small one was best used for nuts, ice, or something you needed a fine grind on. The "chopper" was best for most other uses except celery and cabbage...the slicer is best for that with the grain of the cabbage perpendicular to the blade and the celery placed pretty much the same way.
Walnuts are nice and fine for a topping on brownies......But I think I will pass. Keep em coming James.

Don’t win friends with salad 🥗
Another great review, James!
Great review as usual. Thank you 😊
Have you tried putting a little bit of water on the counter before pushing the suction on? I've noticed that sometimes a little water will help a suction work better.
Try a few drops of water to make it stick to the counter longer. I bought the Kitchen Magician back in the 80s at the Minnesota State Fair. I, too, love it! I use it still for slicing carrots and parsnips every time I make chicken soup. This new device seems very similar. For $20, BUY IT, PEEPS! 😀
Drier veggies seem to work better for the slicer and the grading blade. I am not surprised that you have to press harder for different veggies. This seems like a very good device for a quick and easy solution for chopping up veggies for salads and stir fries.
Thanks for the review!! I was thinking buying one! Now I will buy one!!
This kind of thing has been around for a looong time. I have two metal ones from about the 50's that do the same thing. They screw on to the counter, and can come loose just like the vacuum suction on that thing. Bet it doesn't last as long as they have, though.
Ruth, you are so right as I recall my mother using the type that screwed onto the counter to make salad. Thank you so very much for a wonderful memory.
We used to have something like this that we found in an antique store. It mounted to the edge of the counter or table and had the same type of barrels. It was all steel. This seems rather plasticy and fragile.
Man you make some badass freakin reviews aha i might buy one of these products now because of you great job 👍
My family had a hand-held metal one of these when I was a kid, carrots or cheese or whatever got stuck between the side and the blade all the time. Kind of amazing that they're just slapping an ASOTV label on it like it's something innovative.
On the other hand, those walnuts. Nice.
Enjoy all of your videos. Wish you upload more videos in a week.
It's really satisfying to watch the food being grated
Interesting...
Freakin' Reviews The walnuts were my favorite to watch, something about how it grates them is very satisfying
I would have never guessed!
@@Freakinreviews Ground walnuts are great in pie crust ... especially the ones made with graham crackers or vanilla wafers. (They grind up in the Nutri Slicer also)
I agree
Love your reviews 👍
Can u review the flex glue just came out?
Thanks for the great review. I have not used the NurtiSlicer though I may purchase one. It's just another thing on my kitchen shelf. I've seen several spiral slicers at Costco and didn't pay attention to detail. Next time I'll check them out closer to see if they have other blades to chop veggies. It does seem worth $20.00 though I wonder how it lasts.
should use that power air fryer of yours to make apple chips.
they any good?
@@CastledarkDweller27 yes! Great crushed in granola/cereal.
Pretty sure my mom had something similar in the 70s. Made by Ronco.
Salad Shooter? I love mine.
Oh I love this it will make a great utensil in my camping stuff!!! TY :^)
Great review thanks. I'm already thinking those potato slices will my go to for the air fryer. Baby marrow spirals and quick grated cheese, nuts etc. Just awesome. Really glad I have strong arms, noticed some of the vegetables need a bit of elbow grease. For the price I don't mind if the suction underneath isn't perfect. Have a great day, love from Cape Town, South Africa.
As a caregiver for the elderly I can say that people without teeth often miss the taste of foods they can no longer chew. This product may make those flavors accessible to them again. If you’ve been deprived of something you love, flavor will always trump texture. Don’t discount something as useless just because you don’t need it. There are plenty of folks out there who may need it.
You have a good point but I think he reviws the products based on how theyre advertised and not how different people can use them
Chopping blade could do well if you need things like garlic chopped fine or ginger.
If you do an update would request you use a block of Parmesan.
or finely chopped zucchini for making zucchini bread
Awesome review!
Very thorough review, as always. I think for small, less strong people like me some items would be hard to grate. And I can't help thinking that one day the handle is going to snap and fly across the room.
Lightly moisten the edges of the rubber suction cup and it will never come off. Otherwise the product pretty well fails.(In my humble but correct opinion.)
Joe Scoggins Exactly, with regard to the moisture comment. Otherwise, I respectfully disagree. I still use my Kitchen Magician I bought in '85. For $20, this is a great little device (unless you already have a fancy food processor).
HAHA humble but correct! love that!
Worth the 20 bucks as a cheese shredder alone. I am REALLY curious how the different cups would act with greens like collards, kale, turnips and so on if you were to stack a few and roll them up tight. I have to chop them every day and it is tedious as hell with how small the pieces have to be.
That onion looks perfect for meatloaf and homemade stuffing. Thanks for the idea 👍
This reminds of a product called "Salad Shooter". Obviously this one is manual, but its the same idea. My mom has one since the early 90's and it still works really well.

That size apple slice would be really good for a German pancake. Just saying
Reminds me of the SaladShooter my mom had, just manual. We loved that thing. It was great for holiday cooking.
I have the electric one that's very similar only it was called The Salad Shooter. I use it when I grate partially cooked potatoes and I also use it for grating cheese. It works well to do both of those. They are nice if you have a lot of stuff to cut and chop or grate. Thanks for the review.
You’re videos are so entertaining!
and dont have random " woooww , booom ,woaahhhh ,look at datttt " every 2 minutes lol ( russian hacker )
I don't know what I was more sorry for--the veggies or your right arm!
DORIS MASBACK Don't feel too sorry. His right arm is used to being sore.
I ordered a nutri slicer after seeing it on tv several years ago. My wife and I cook a lot. I was skeptical at first but I LOVE it. We especially love making sweet potato potato chips and idaho potato chips. This gadget works for us. I am buying one today for my 90 year old mother in law. I loved your review, thanks that was fun to watch.
I have a similar item from Amazon and it is aqua colored worked almost exactly the same. I have found it might stick a bit better if the counter was a little damp. The cabbage would have come out better with the slicing blade. The onions were more grated then shredded. Some items are just not right for the produce, but it is the bomb for shredding a couple of pounds of cheese. Love the videos
The villain could have used this device to chop up Steve Buscemi in the movie Fargo.
yeah but first u gotta chop him into quarter of an apple sized blocks to fit in the lil square hole??!!
aint nobody got time for that.
Great videos. I think I'll pass on this product but just like 2¢ chicks said where was Bailey in this video, because she didn't sniff test it we will have no idea if this product is toxic or possessed with evil spirits.
❤️
Great video as usual. I was thinking about getting this 29.99, regular 34.99 lol. Thanks to you I will be saving my money. This does exactly what my small food process does, but my processor does it much better. I miss Bailey lol. Thanks again.
Thanks for the review! I'm always looking for nonelectric alternatives to small appliances.( I may be weird, but I never liked the powered ones.) The problem I see with this is the lack of blade sizes. Also, a lot of the items you chopped, it does matter which way you put them in. The cabbage for example, you'd cut it in a chunk and put the cut side down to help start it, instead of from the top.
* Grate * review!

No, seriously, the pun police are on the way. Run, run, as fast as you can!
With the apple I can see someone making apple chips
genius
Apple sauce and/or fried apple pies ... cooks fast.
Very thorough review. I want one bad and I haven't seen them at brick and mortar stores. I would use it regularly it seems very convenient.
Thank you. I've always wanted to buy this 😁
The slicer would be perfect for making home made potato chips!
DiffieTheCat I thought it looked a little bit thin for potato chips but definitely perfect for scalloped Al gratin potatoes
I bet your arm was tired after all of that
Really nice summation at the end.
You need to put the onions in the freezer for an hour or 2.
Not impressed. My Mom had a Kitchen Magician and she loved it too
3:01 for those wondering if you can attach a drill do it, doesn't seem like you can lol
can't never could
I found a way just hot glue a drill bit when you drill into the center.
I bet a Cuban can figure out how to attach a drill to it.
I’ve found that if you put a bit of water on the counter surface, the chopper will hold almost like cement. Also, the shredding blade should be used mainly for finely grated cheeses.
I got this as a gift. I wouldn’t open the box till you reviewed it. Great vid as always 😃
I'll be interested to hear what you think of it.
Nah.
i subbed,i like reviews of random things without the annoying russian :)
BEST review yet! 👍
i guess the hold down to the table is a suction cup will it work on textured surfaces? would wetting the bottom make it stay in place better?
I like the video but I am going to pass on this product
I’ve had similar items that were suppose to clamp to the work surface, what I found if I damp the. Bottom of the device it would suction down better.
Love your episodes.
Thanks for all you've done 👍
Try moistening the suction cup a little then push the lever to lock it down. I have found that this works quite well for me.
Great review thanx
Thanks for this review. I finally was able to easily shred carrots. Regarding the problem with it staying stuck to the counter - my tip is to dampen the bottom and then do it. Worked like a charm. I'm done and it's still stuck.
My mom had a huge, metal thing like this growing up. It was mainly for grating cheese and hard boiled eggs.
I just found this golden oldie and wanted to see if this thing really works. Yep - mostly- but I love my electrical appliances. On the other hand I’ve had a particular mandolin for at least 30 years or more and it still does the best slicing job ever.
