I have not done enough nylon string playing to warrant buying an expensive nylon string guitar but for the price point of this guitar and the quality it's worth a few hundred beans just to have it available in the home studio to spice up a track on a song or just to have to play something different. Your review and the demo by Dr. Hugo has convinced me to purchase one. I look forward to receiving and playing it. Thanks again !
ah the Folias variation at the beginning, exactly what I needed to hear to determine whether this is something I want to buy since that's always my first move when I pick up a nylon guitar. thank you
Steven mGyori a lot better than mine, I literally got my nylon at the dump. I went to throw some trash away with my uncle and I just saw it there with a minor break. $5 glue later it was working like new.
I started with nylon and want to go back to a nylon guitar. Dr. Nogueira just stirs up those feels again and why I wanted to play classical. I'm going to take a hard look at this guitar.
Gonna order this guitar. This is the 3rd guitar i'm buying based on your recommendation (the 1st was WOLF 750 cherry burst and the 2nd AIO ASG WHITE , both of which i'm crazy about). Also, its nice of you to ivite other guitar players to your channel. Cheers.
Thanks for the review Max. This guitar has been on my short list for a couple of years. I'm no doctor, but, I know sweet when I see it! Thomann has had an acoustic version as well for a while now. I salivate every time I see them!
I just bought an Epiphone PRO1 Classical Nylon String Guitar in Antique Natural at Sweetwater over the Labor Day weekend for only $99. PRO1 Stands for Proprietary Bracing on this guitar. It has a Cedar top, Mahogany back, sides and, neck. Rosewood fingerboard and bridge. Graphtech NuBone nut and saddle. The Nut Width is only 1 3/4". Unlike most Classical guitars that are 2+"s usually. The only thing that lets it down are the Strings and Tuners. But, those are easy and cheap to replace. Your guitar is nice too.
I bought this guitar because of this video. I was very happy with the fit and finish. However, on first strum... bzzzz! The G and B strings buzz from open to the 4th fret. Even with some truss adjustment (up to full turn) the buzz was still there. The buzz only disappeared after the action required a balance bar and safety net. I contacted Thomman, and after a little back and forth (reasonably so), we resolved the issue. I've bought other HB items, guitars and speaker cabs alike, and this has been the only issue, which they took care of. Tuning machines, nut and bridge will be upgraded. Nice buy.
Dr Hugo is a great player. Thanks for having him on the channel. The guitar looks and sounds very good. Maybe it'll be Willie Nelson's next guitar when Trigger self destructs.
Hi Max! That's a realy nice little guitar. I know nothing about classical guitar. I think the over all style and shape of that guitar is much nicer than traditional instruments. reminds me of a less paul. Well you take care Max from your pal Helcat in Australia.
Hey, thanks for that! After watching your vids, I have tried a couple of Harley Benton guitars and they are brilliant! I think you're absolutely fantastic at the guitar,
Thanks for the amazing video, so well made , clean sound and amazing performance 👏👏 That guitar sounds way above the tag price I’m really impressed with Harley Benton waoooo
48mm nut on an acoustic guitar, which this model has, is my favourite width. I have a steel string parlour with a 48mm width which for me is ideal for playing a bit of blues, folk and ragtime.
Dr. Noguiera is an awesome finger stylist! If only I had taken classical guitar lessons back when I was younger... Oh well! It's always nice to see someone proficient in this style.
Amazing! I've been meaning to ask where were the HB Nylon string models. Not only that, it is precisely that style that I was searching for and not regular classic ones. This is awesome and I will definitely get one! My 4th HB hahaha Thank you Max!!
enjoyed the review. Interesting guitar, I too have bought Wolf guitars after your reviews and have a Harley Benton ST-20HSS CA Standard on the way. Looking forward to your next review.
I got turned onto HB through this channel as well. I Bough an SC custom with p90s and now have one of the Nashville Nylons on the way. The best thing about HB that i've noticed is the quality of the gear it comes with. It's almost like they come out of the box with aftermarket upgrades.
The only problem is the shipping and handling. I never played a nylon string until a year ago and I love it. I bought a Washburn similar but nicer. The shipping money I Sayed from the shipping cost toward a new guitar. I'm happy😎
The guitar seems nice, and if they had a steel string, I'd buy it through your link, because it's so thin, but seriously, thanks for dragging the Dr. onboard! Real flamenco players aren't that common, even where you are. Jatoba is a really nice, and hard fretboard wood. I can even be heard to say on occasion that it's better than rosewood, if you like a hard board with out too much open grain. I have to wonder if HB might dye theirs, though, not that it's bad.... the stuff gets dark over time anyways, just not that dark from what I've seen. Man, I hope you were able to grab some lesson time from that guy before or after you made the vid. There aren't even flamenco players where I live,
I got one. It had issues. The most notable being buzzing from the 5th fret down one all but one string. Truss adjustments didn't work. I suspect poor fret installation and quality control. However, Thomman customer service was great! I ended up getting my money back. Note: I also have an HB 335 copy that is fantastic.
Max - Great to see a demo of an affordable electric Classical Guitar! Can you PLEASE measure the distance from the bottom of the 6th string to the top/face of the guitar? I play with a plastic thumb pick, and if there is not enough clearance, the pick will be hitting the guitar top, particularly since there is not sound hole. FYI - 10mm is not enough clearance. Also, can you try tapping on the guitar top will your nails, flamenco style? How does it sound? Is there a Golpeador (tap/scratch plate)? I added a Piezo pickup under the bridge of my Classical Guitar - not easy to find a perfect spot. It sounds great, if you know what a good Classical sounds like and are not afraid to apply a lot of high frequency EQ to get rid picking noises, etc. Here are some EQ tips. I run my guitar though a Boss GT-6 effects processor using the following settings on it: Modeled Amp: Jazz Combo Preamp: Gain 50, Bass 50, Middle 50, Treble 39, Level 90 EQ Settings: Lo-EQ +3dB, Lo-Mid f 200 Hz, Lo-Mid Q 1, Lo-Mid EQ +2dB, Hi-Mid f 4.00 kHz, Hi-Mid Q 0.5, Hi-Mid EQ -2dB, Hi-EQ -2, Level 4 With these settings, my Classical Guitar (good, custom made) sounds even better than it does acoustically. It is easier to play through headphones due to the higher volume, and records exactly as it sounds. Virtually all the little picking, nail, shifting noises, etc. are gone, as they generally occur in the very high frequencies. It makes me sound better than I actually am. Adding some Lo-EQ boost as described above is necessary to get the proper fullness of a Classical guitar. No doubt, your mileage will vary, as the way Classical guitars sound varies widely. But, I think you'll find those settings or something similar will get any electric Piezo pickup Classical guitar sounding surprisingly "natural" and it will be much more fun to play. Thanks Max. I absolutely love your channel!
Excellent, GM. Just now saw your post. Merry Christmas, man. Christopher Parkening is my favorite guitarist. If you haven't heard his artistry, check him out, bro! He'll bring some light your way and inspiration too.
It sounds pretty solid just going direct. I'm shopping around for something to use for musical theater, and I feel like with a little EQ and reverb, maybe an impulse response loaded up, in the context of a mix it would sound absolutely amazing.
Thanks for this review; have been looking at this for a long while. One question not answered would be how it sounds unplugged - just to gauge its use as a silent practice guitar.
I like this guitar.. the deal breaker for me is the bridge. While it doesn't seem to have and impact here. Classical guitars generally have a square bridge that keeps the looped strings uniform. I'd probably opt for the Ibanez option

Great review. I love the way it looks and of course, the price is very tempting, but what really struck me is how good the piezo sounds. It's much warmer and less compressed-sounding than most others I've heard, even on much more expensive instruments.
Me too! The first thing I noticed is that it sounds almost exactly as a standard-bodied nylon acoustic captured by a mic and that says a lot about the pickup.
Darn nice guitar it has a very solid look and style.. the sound was as expected, but would like to hear a few more trials on that model for its range of sound options.
@@bgilley8199 well no it hasn't the features, however this guitar is not as bulky as a standard acoustic, and it actually looks and sounds good and at that price point well it's a bargain and a good alternative, to each his own

This sounds like a nylon acoustic played through a piezo pickup. Not the same. If you've spent that much on a proper acoustic I would expect it to be a solid wood with great resonance and in my opinion a much more beautiful sound than anything like this.
HB does it again! I was seriously thinking about getting a Nyloncaster, but $700 + is a bit steep, even as cool as they sound. This is more in my price range, although the neck is much wider, whereas the Nyloncaster uses a standard strat or Tele neck. Definitely gonna consider this one.
