- Divers Butch, Daniela, Trout, Curt and myself, with first time bubble watcher Cindi, dove the Sea Girt Shipwreck on the dive boat Venture III with Captain Paul and 1st Mate Ruth. The Sea Girt Wreck is an unidentified wooden sailing ship in 80 feet of water not too far from Shark River Inlet, Belmar, New Jersey, where the Venture III is docked. Captain Paul reminded all the divers that the bell has never been recovered. You never know what you might find on an old shipwreck.
Spearfishing for Fluke and Blackfish was on the agenda for a few of the divers. Unfortunately, Sea Bass was not in season. A few Fluke were had as well as one nice size Lobster.
An unexpected surprise were the Mauve Stinging Jellyfish floating in the current, a rare sight in New Jersey.
It was a perfect day on and under the water.
Nice
Being the youngest and strongest of the boys I go diving with I’m always the one who sets the wreck anchor. This is why I always come up with the biggest fish and biggest lobster✌️🤣✌️
Excellent. Hope to dive here someday myself.
Really cool joe. Did you happen to see many of the cod that have been in our neck of the woods this year? I'm glad to see a resurgence, hopefully there's some monsters
Hey, nice video! Is that ballast lying near what is left of the hull?
Thanks.
Nope, no ballast pile.
Hey Joe, did you use any filter on your camera lens? Looks surprisingly blue for the northeast. Thanks!
No filter.
Just a GoPro 11 with a Big Blue 3200 light.
Looks like a Gulp Grub lower left of the frame at 4:09
The Venture 3 ! Paul and Ruth are still in the game ?
They just sold the boat.
Please explain how you secure your accessories, i.e reel, mesh bag, light. The line that goes on valve and over your shoulder?
I call it an equipment loop. Short rope with a loop on one end that goes around tank valve and the other end has a big dog/snap clip and ring. All my equip has a similar snap clip. each piece of equipment I bring on the dive is clipped to the ring. I can remove each piece individually or unclip everything with the ring. This system was commonly used by New Jersey divers 30 years ago. Not many people use it today.
How deep was that?
70-80 feet.
Wow I’m shocked at the clarity.
Didn’t know spearfishing with SCUBA gear was legal anywhere.
Spearfishing on scuba is legal in New Jersey.
Surprise😂
