Spearfishing the Gassoon Shipwreck Barnegat New Jersey
On September 4, 2024 Captain Howard of the RV Emma May took Bob, Mike and Joe to the shipwreck known as the Gasson (aka Cassoon) for a day of seafood collecting. The wreck is located north of Barnegat Inlet off Seaside Park, NJ. Divers managed to find a few nice size Fluke (Summer Flounder) and Lobster. Seas were a little rocky in the morning but calmed by the afternoon. The water temperature finally started to warm to the mid-60s after a long summer of 48 degrees, and visibility improved to about 15 feet.

Aug 3 and 4 2024 I did my AOW Cert there on the Easr side. Didn't get to see all that. I did get to see the Plane and a Fire Truck. And the platform sitting about 60 feet down on the Southeast corner.
Love seeing older divers! They know every spot and boat.
👍😎👍☀️
Ever dive the San Saba
Yes. Check out my other videos. I have videos of the San Saba.
Good local fellas . I fish under old Barney once in a while but I’m usually fishing in seaside park or island beach state park area. Tight lines . Jersey 🇺🇸👍🏼🎣👍🏼🇺🇸fishing
Love the videos hope to see more!
Wow!! Awesome diving adventure! This is my first time seeing this video ❤ I love it😊
Thanks! Check out my other videos.
I lost it at “valve”
I saw the guys using Nitrox, what was the depth they went to?
About 80 ft 32% oxygen
@@joefiorentino4551 very nice, I think Nitrox is the way to go for that
Real nice fluke gents 🤘
Still think it’s crazy grown men can’t put on wetsuit gloves without soap lol
Be nice to divers, we know places NO ONE will EVER find you !
Awesome footage!! I’m on the road to 1k subscribers as well!!! Wishing you the best
I hope to retire like that some day. Thanks for making the recreation part of life so attractive.
Great video guys! Regards from Scotland 🏴
Glad you enjoyed it
Looks like a nice dive. Keep them coming
Thanks, will do!
Nice return!
Chuck zimmora Drew some awesome drawings including the issac
Sell their anchors back to them too. I wish I had a dollar for every fouled anchor I found with 10 feet of anchor chain
Was a jersey wreck diver for years. Crewed a few boats and had a blast.
If anyone know the history of this wreck I would love to know.
No one will give you wreck details or coordinates that have gold on them. You have a better chance getting struck by lightning
He said HISTORY about it. Not where the wrecks at. He's litteraly in the video.
@@jamesps7515 The initial description I gave of the wreck was a joke. I then proceeded to comment on what I knew about this site. This is just a common NJ wooden wreck site. The highest spot on the wreck is about 6 ft and that is the windless. The highest wood is only about 3 to 4 ft. I have been diving this site for years and don't know how it got the name and what its history is.
You just earned a subscriber, Cap! More of these pls!
Nice flounder!
Visibility looked great. How deep was this dive?
About 80ft
Let's get you to 1k subscribers!
Holy fluke
I normally do a backward roll into the water, but the Barnegat Roll is a lot more stylish.
Enjoy your posts, safe diving.
What an incredible NJ dive. Brings back great memories of diving with you folks. Safe diving my friend.
Nice footage!
Nice to see that Mola Mola.
Awesome adventure, Great job saving the lobster! A lot of interesting looking fish down there. Great video keep it up!
Are they all bergalls with the pointy face
wow, i have lost a lot of top and bottom rigs going back to when i was a kid when my dad and i went party boat fishing and the name the old time captains used call was the refrigerator shack. back then the old party boats had single screw detroit 6-71's and was about a three hour to get there. i recall there was another wreck about 2 miles away that we also used to stop one. but seeing the old refrigator shack on 4k was very enjoyable to me and brought great memories of m y dad and fishing on the first starfish out of sea isle ....thx so much
That water was so clear!!!! Absolutely beautiful!!!!
Did Yin Ling contact you yet for a paid advertisement?
Cool video. It's no wonder I lost so many sinkers there! You guys could pay for fuel with all that lead down there. Nice job on the lobster rescue.
That's awesome! Also, great lobster save. That eel was pretty bold. lol
Fished there 4 times, we always got some good ones
I call him pincy

Really like your videos . I am an old guy that has been wrecking and spearfishing Florida for many years . I like that comfy looking boat ya got and you guys easy going laid back style . Safe diving to you .
Been there in late 90s, there's a ton of bars of soap still in the wrappers inside. You can access it through a hole at the bow, about half way to the sand
Very cool video, fished it many, many times
Parts of their faces aren't covered that water is freezing how do they do it.
