I'm just watching this in awe that a teenage Singaporean has better English skills than 99+% of Americans. I admire Chloe's predeliction for Proustian sentences.
@@olaamigo5735 Yes, but didn't she go to school in China? In my experience, Chinese students tend to have the weakest English skills as the Chinese government tries to restrict Western influences on Chinese society. All things considered, Chloe is very impressive

I've watched this video twice over the last two weeks of painfully realizing that my essays aren't gonna magically write themselves, and both times I've been incredibly inspired and motivated to continue trying my best :') "'I pick up the pen gently, and write myself a suit of armor' - Chloe Tan" is now at the bottom of my current google doc draft as a reminder that amazing essays CAN exist. you are an actual inspiration
hi Chloe, I just wanted to thank you! I just got into uchicago class of 2024, and watching your videos really helped and inspired me!! wishing you the best
Hey Chloe Tan, I believe I'm speaking on behalf of most of us when I say that your writing is outstanding and we would all like some insight or tips on how to achieve the same level mastery of words that you have. ...Or write well enough to be accepted to universities the likes of UChicago and other top schools. The former is not likely to be realized without investing ample time and a hint of talent, and much less by the time applications are due. But perhaps you might be able to help us with the latter. The Kath Path is a college RUclipsr from Stanford, you might have heard of her. She offers a college application essay advice service for a fee. I know classes already started for you, -- in a few hours at the time I'm writing this you will probably be sitting in one -- so it might be difficult for you to do the same. But I ask you to please consider it because after reading your work, there is no one else I would rather give me some advice on my essays. Thank you for your time.
Wow, I felt like you were reading my inner most thoughts. I love history and literature and would love to study at UChicago! Thanks for the inspiration!!!
As someone who love writing, poetry, and thinking about interesting symbolisms and metaphors, the paragraph at 9:48 especially struck a chord with me. I really like this characterization and your way of looking at the dead creators of metaphors is incredibly interesting and thoughtful. :)
Megan Louie it honestly it's a bumpy process!! overall for this one it took me around 1-2 weeks to settle on it (but i'm also a very indecisive person)
I think by reading your essay, I have fallen in love with you. Seriously, I really like you as a person just by reading that one essay wtf you sound so likable. Damn I need to make the reader fall in love with me now, challenge taken.
i really love your style and writing and your essay inspired me to research about dead metaphors :) and I just enjoyed listening to your piece overall. Do you think it is okay if the topic of college essays are not exactly related to my field of study / majors? especially if it's diving into an academic subject which is not related to my major
Jessica K. absolutely!! in fact i think that demonstrates more about you being passionate about interesting things, and this helps show more aspects of you too!
First, you are an AMAZING writer. Second...to be clear (because my anxiety is causing me to over think😭) the why UChicago essay and the extended essay are two separated essays right? The fact that it’s labeled as extended is partially making me think it’s the second portion of the first one lmao.
I’m really not sure what to do now that the SAT/ACT are optional. My superscore is a 1410 and I don’t know if I should include it or not since it is below the UChicago average, but is still not terrible
hi! i am applying to uchicago this year and love your writing. do you have any tips for choosing a prompt and breaking down how to write these types of essays? thanks!
this video is very helpful. 🧗♂️ its showing an accurate and deep understanding; great perceptive. 💡 Muito obrigado for all the insightful information... 🤝
I tried finding her prompt on the Uchicago website under the past prompts section, but it wasn't there :/ Does that mean we cant use it anymore? BTW I LOVE YOUR WRITING CHLOE!

English is one of the official languages in Singapore, bro

What is the background music at 9:30 ? I feel like I've heard it from a Taiwanese drama ahhh
I think my mother-tongue writing style is a bit similar to yours. Yet, your writings are beautiful as always. 🥺🥺🥺
