    In case people are wondering, I am a UChicago student and student athlete who has been made privy to the grading scale through coaches. The scales are A,B,C; 1,2,3; and X,Y,Z. The highest score is an A,1,X.

    This literally is the perfect feeder for conspiracy theories about admissions.
    1. No comments aside from categorical grades
    2. Cryptic grade systems (numeric for one, letter scale for another)
    3. Blank sections
    4. The suspicious change from "probably admit" to "admit"
    5. Took 1.5 months to send this nearly useless report.
    6. "Intellectual"

    • @bebeerin
      @bebeerin 2 года назад +27

      going from "probably admit" to "admit" isn't suspicious. during the initial round she was placed in the "probably admit" category of applicants and during the application's final review she was voted to be admitted

      I just googled "Uchicago admissions file" and theres some blog posts with other students whose files have a lot of writing- maybe after a few years they wipe the comments? I saw a Stanford vid that said that

    That’s pretty informative! I’ve watched some admission file review videos and UMich would literally grade their students for admission or not. Keep the great work!

    Very interesting grading system. Thanks for making the video and sharing it. One suggestion though: You might want to redact your birth date. It is generally considered private / sensitive personal information and may be used to access or at least verify for access to quite a few systems of personal records.

    Highly likey comments were stripped - find it hard to believe no one had any comments unless the application is just a no-brainer or glarely awful. Even in the first scenarios, some might note to decline because the student is unlikely to accept. It's just a liability for them - they can't keep who's on the admission counsel entirely underwraps and as much as people don't like to admit, admissions has a human element. Why your app resonated with some counselors and not others is hard pinpoint and if they released the comments... hello lawsuit.

      Yeah, hard to believe there were no comments. And especially since they made her wait 1.5 months before viewing is very suspicious.

    Do you think they really read your essays in the first round? Or do they judge you based on the rest of your profile first and then your essays are used to decide between you and someone else you may be in competition with?
    I have already applied ED to UChicago so now I am just really anxious about getting in.
