Hayden Harrison, I've been down there to help rebuild, and seen the devastation, the many lives reduced to Xs on walls and doors, and the places where houses were washed away, gone to the Presbytere museum that shows a glimpse of it all, and all I can say is...I'm sorry, dude. Words can't express what you must have gone through, what you probably still are going through, with the utter failure of the government to do any more than a token amount of help. I wish you luck in the rebuilding of your life, even though it will never be the same.
The organization that I went down with is St Bernard Project, and they are still there. Obviously I don't know what it's like to get their help, but if you are still living down there and want help, they had us doing everything, from drywalling to installing new doors to getting rid of a ton of weeds...they're good people. Obviously it's never going to be like what it was like 10 years ago before the Hurricane, but they may be able to help rebuild what they can.

    I have my mother's dreams,
    I have my father's eyes,
You can't take that from me,
    Just go ahead and try.
    The crescent city sleeps,
    While giants in the sky,
    Preparing to unleash,
    Let loose a mighty cry.
    Can nobody save us?
    Will anyone try?
    The bayou is burning,
    The cypress is dying.
    And all along they're saying.
    Help is on the way
    (They said, they said)
    Help is on the way
    (They said, they said)
One by land, two by sea.
Right there in front of me.
    Help is on the way.
    Five thousand feet below,
As black smoke engulfs the sky,
    The ocean floor explodes,
    Eleven mothers cry.
    My bones all resonate,
    A burning lullaby,
You can't take that from me,
    Just go ahead and try.
    She stands at the shoreline,
    With hands in the air,
Her words pierce the dark night,
    "Does anyone care? "
    And all along they're saying
    Help is on the way
    (They said, they said)
    Help is on the way
    (They said, they said)
One by land, two by sea.
Right there in front of me.
    Help is on the way.
    Right here! Right here! [x3]
    Choking on the black gold,
    Upon which we rely,
We keep axes in the attics,
To see cameras in the sky.
    Help is on the way
    (They said, they said)
    Help is on the way
    (They said, they said)
We were told just to sit tight,
    'Cause somebody will soon arrive.
    Help is on the way.
    But it never came!
    It never came!
    Help is on the way
    (They said, they said)
    Help is on the way

Helix Maren I made it out in time. My house lost some siding, some brick, and the window in my room blew out. There were some fallen trees in my yard too, but I didn’t have any water damage. My neighbor across the street from me lost his roof and my town is a complete mess, but thankfully there weren’t any deaths in my town. It was bad though. Real bad. It made landfall at 150mph and when it went through my area, it had sustained winds of about 120.

"Help is on the way...but it never came"...This song reminds of my childhood, I still remember my 6 yr old self thinking help was coming, but 4 years came & went by no one showed up & life went on...Then I spent decades trying to piece my mind together. Nothing seemed real for a long time, dissociative thoughts even now after 25 yrs. & with all the chaos that is happening now with CoVid, Riots, Police Brutality. I just takes back to my chaos days. For some reason I feel like chaos is my normal & it calms me. When things are so-called "normal" by the world's standards & everyone is "so-called" happy & calm...I can't help but see it as just a signal that the storm is coming, with the cruel world back again to abuse.

I hate to be the first commenter to say this to you, but that too is a symptom of trauma: not being able to relax during peace because you're expecting the worst.
I experience it, so do millions of others. Many people have lived in trauma for so long they don't know HOW to live once they're "safe". you're not broken, you've just been conditioned by the environment you grew up in.
I hope you're in a safer environment now, and I hope you find the strength to adjust to peace. You deserve it, don't ever let anyone tell you that you don't.

That's what they tell you because they don't want everyone to mass evacuate all at once or create a bottleneck. Only the idiots stay put. The best thing you can do is buy or find a small boat early, tie it to the roof or keep it somewhere safe fueled up and ready to go. Then when you're flooded out, start it up and get out of there. The sun beating down on an asphalt roof in summer amidst a sea of water is easily 120F and greater. No chance of surviving on a roof.

The more I think about it, that has to be one of the most chilling feelings ever! having authorities tell you that you should stay put and don't worry, help is on the way! except it wasn't... I can't even imagine how that feels or they went through!

It's chilling. Especially because by the time anyone realizes the truth, it's often too late.

    歌詞(lyrics)
    I have my mother's dreams
    I have my father's eyes
You can't take that from me
    Just go ahead and try
    The crescent city sleeps
    While giants in the sky
    Preparing to unleash
    Let loose a mighty cry
    Can nobody save us?
    Will anyone try?
    The bayou is burning
    The cypress has died
    And all along they're saying
Help is on the way (They said they said)
Help is on the way (They said they said)
One by land, two by sea, right there in front of me
    Help is on the way
    Five thousand feet below
As black smoke engulfs the sky
    The ocean floor explodes
    Eleven mothers cry
    My bones all resonate
    A burning lullaby
You can't take that from me
    Just go ahead and try
    She says that's a shoreline
    With hands in the air
Her words pierce the dark night
    Does anyone care?
And all along can say it
Help is on the way (They said they said)
Help is on the way (They said they said)
Hold my hand, to help see, right there in front of me
    Help is on the way
    Right here
    Right here
    Right here
    Right here
    Right here
    Right here
    Choking on the black gold
    Upon which we here rely
We keep axes in the attic
To see cameras in the sky
Help is on the way (They said they said)
Help is on the way (They said they said)
We were told, just to sit tight
    'Cause somebody will soon arrive
    Help is on the way
    They never came
    They never came
Help is on the way (They said they said)
Help is on the way (They said they said)
One by land, two by sea, right there in front of me
    Help is on the way
    On the way

This band is special, most bands who try the message thing come off as corny (mostly country bands) but these guys not only have the sound to back it up, but so good at telling the story it gives you emotions.

One year ago, South Korean experience very similar tragedy, "Sinking of the Sewol ferry". Around 300 death. Most of them are high school students. "They were told just to sit tight, 'Cause somebody will soon arrive. Help is on the way. But it never came." as exactly this song says.
This song says that we must work hard to help the people who meet disaster and to prevent tragedy. We can. This song is awesome.

This was such a horrifying tragedy to have occurred. New Orleans still hasn't recovered from this storm and the response was a joke. I know people who survived Katrina but things were touch and go for a while. Then things that were sent down as donations were being sold to these people who just lost everything. And after getting a measly female payout of 2k they called months later and demanded the return of the money. Best thing I learned is if you want to help people in situations like this do it yourself

    • @ArchaicBuilds

hatter ironic then that unique traits and variations are the reason we survive and evolve , keep the same structure and it falls to the same problems, apply variation and the issue may be resolved in addition new potential threats are made aware of, this results in both knowledge gained and shared between both parties. Hold one form and you breed in weakness, and slow death.
Ask the egyptian pharoah's and European nobles, they know all about that

This song isnt just about natural disasters in general. this song is about 2 things, Hurricane Katrina and the Gulf oil spill. "5000 feet below", "11 mothers cry", and "choking on the black gold" are about the oil spill (11 people died on the rig). Katrina references were "the crescent city sleeps"(new Orleans nickname is the crescent city), "the cypress is dying" cypress trees lessen the effects of a hurricane. but the flooding killed much of the cypress in southern louisiana, " we keep axes in the Attics, to see cameras in the sky" people in new Orleans keep axes in the attic so we can cut through to the roof in case the flooding gets that high. when people did that, all they saw was news helicopters doing alot of filming and not helping evacuate anyone.
