This band truly is amazing. I've been looking at the modern pop music in today's music industry for a long time, as in, ever since Bieber and Manaj came in. Their repetitive lyrics and music always drive me over the edge to considering how it just seems to fuel my generation's ignorance. I'm thirteen and this is the type of band I've been looking for for a long time, ever since I gave up on the newer LP songs. This song alone shows the reality of how not only the U.S.' politicians and people are falling into their own inevitable destruction, but of other nations. I'll really be looking forward to listening to these guys!
This video has so much power. I love Rise Against and hate how few people can accept reality and not look away. If only everyone would do just a small step in the right direction so much could change.....
You sometimes don’t really like a group but sometimes you hear a song that really hits and now you want to go back and see what I was missing. Am a fan now and look forward to the new stuff!!
Human. A little earlier in the song, he mentions how the wealthy elites, corporate media and politicians make it out to be that we the people are the fucking leeches "we are the rust upon your gears, we are the insects in your ears, we crawl all over you".
If you saw my comment on "Prayer Of The Refugee", consider this a part 2. This was another song I listened to in that mental hospital that helped make the stay for me (and those other kids) better. Not so much the content in the video but that the music was a light in the darkness of how life was for me (and those kids) 1 year ago. Thank you so much Rise Against. I don't think you know how much this music helped get me through that tough time in my life.
This is the sort of video that my friends and I discuss a lot while we're hanging out. Its definitely a bad idea at times but I'm glad videos like this one exist.
***** With a good education you'd know that smugness and name calling do not an argument make. These "facts" are easily twistable statistics speaking in broad generalizations.
Everyone commenting about how it's crazy how this video is still applicable... Of course it is. Nothing has changed. Nothing has gotten better. The ills spoken of in this video are inherent to the current political/economic system. None of the reform you've seen put into place has ameliorated these problems - and it won't. This is how the system works, and that's the point of the video.
I am completely and utterly convinced that humanity is going to destroy the world if the majority does not change their ways. I'm trying to change my ways myself, when I start living on campus next year I'm taking on vegetarianism, I don't drive, I have sworn off violence unless it is self defense, and I support human, and I mean all human, rights. I want to go into activism, I'm just not sure how.

Just in case anyone's sceptical, I'm a marine sciences major with a concentration in conservation, and this is all true. What you tend to see on the news are conservative (descriptor, not the party) estimations, but without immediate and radical change we will see irreversible damage to the world around us, and we'll see it from the death toll. Hell i mean, we've already seen it, we just have such a short collective memory we know that we've seen it. The west never had a Fire Season, they had summer, and occasionally had Bad Summers where fires happened. That's how the conifer tree life cycle works, after all, but mind you, those trees had time to grow to Maturity and to seed before they burned. That doesn't happen now. Fire rates and intensity increased so slowly over the past hundred years that no one outside the area saw a different. Like frogs in a pot in became the new normal. And the east? Well noreasters *used* to be intense storms that dropped a lot of snow. They're still intense, because they drop more trees than fucking hurricanes, but now if you're within 50 miles of the ocean you'd be damned to see more than a foot or two of snow all winter. Like, pre-industrial revolution the Hudson River would completely freeze between Manhattan and Brooklyn every year, and the ice industry there Thrived, mind you, thats brackish water, do you know how cold MOVING brackish water has to be to freeze? The answer is VERY. But these days, if that river freezes its treated like it must be an unbearably cold winter, a freak event, rather than one winter out of a dozen where the temperature is where it *should* be. This is our world changing before our eyes, but we still can't see it, apparently.

It is kind of about that. More it's a critique of capitalism and how workers are just exploited as pawns for giant corporations and their owners. This can be very soul draining, speaking as someone that has worked in factories before. But anyone in the working class can feel that really. It's also about how capitalism is literally destroying the earth and leading to mankinds doom. Pollution, over-consumption etc.
Say Who? Really liking your feedback. In my view, Rise Against is like the next generation Rage Against the Machine. Not as aggressive as Rage Against the Machine was, yet they do write similar songs with similar material.
Things have gotten worse for sure. Those numbers are even more horrific today. Nearly 68,000 people die each year due to a lack of health care. Up from the 45,000 their statistic says in the video.
These issues have a spot light on them now... compared to when rise against first tried to wake us up to these problems. Change is happening... slowly.

From The Eagles, Grateful Dead, Thin Lizzy and Blue Öyster Cult in the 70s to Linkin Park, Disturbed, Motörhead and Volbeat in recent years, no one, I mean NO ONE is as consistently great as Rise Against. (okay, Thin Lizzy was close)

midnight_storm_(vǫrðr) Your reading comprehension is shallow. Do you even read the posts before you post? Think about the fact that not every piece of information was in a post? Think about the fact someone could have a favorite genre although listens to other genres? I was probably listening to "classical music", as well as show tunes, opera, and folk (to name just a few) before you were born. The fact you differentiate and list several different obscure music genres, yet still refer to "Classical music" without mentioning the various genres, indicates that you are ignorant that there even is a difference. Compare Albinoni (Barock) to Mahler (late-Romantic) to get an idea of just how different "classical" is.
I'm not sure why everyone is so confused/ offended/ shocked by this video and the depiction of the city burning. Everyone is so fucking ignorant in our culture, taking everything literally and at face value, and not caring to question or give thought to the things that offend us (which will most always be the most beneficial to think about, as it takes us out of our comfort zone and typical thought patterns that keep us ignorant to any greater truth.) There's a reason they show the JFK quote at both the beginning and end of the video. The entire thing is emphasizing that point, not condoning or promoting terrorism. It is reiterating what John F Kennedy said in a manner that grabs the viewers attention. If peaceful revolution isn't an option, then citizens are going to start taking matters into their own hands with perhaps drastic measures.
Ok...pretty much the only thing I've been listening to for the past week or two was Rise Against. I think the only way I can get out of this is by finding another band that I think is better...but...I don't think I can...

To the sound of a heartbeat pounding away
To the rhythm of the awful rusted machines
We toss and turn but don't sleep
Each breath we take makes us thieves
Like causes without rebels
Just talk but promise nothing else
We crawl on our knees for you
Under a sky no longer blue
We sweat all day long for you
But we sow seeds to see us through
'Cause sometimes dreams just don't come true
We wait to reap what we are due
To the rhythm of a time bomb ticking away
And the blare of the sirens combing the streets
Chased down like dogs we run from
Your grasp until the sun comes up
We crawl on our knees for you
Under a sky no longer blue
We sweat all day long for you
But we sow seeds to see us through
'Cause sometimes dreams just don't come true
Look now at what they've done to you
White needles buried in the red
The engine roars and then it gives
But never dies
'Cause we don't live
We just survive
On the scraps that you throw away
I won't crawl on my knees for you
I won't believe the lies that hide the truth
I won't sweat one more drop for you
'Cause we are the rust upon your gears
We are the insect in your ears
We crawl
We crawl
We crawl... all over you
We sow the seeds to see us through
Our days are precious and so few
We all reap what we are due
Under this sky no longer blue
We bring the dawn long over-due
We crawl
We crawl
We crawl... all over you

Its bands like these that I respect because they sing about real world problems and not sex or drugs *salutes rise against*
Nothing wrong with singing about sex and drugs dude. Its all a part of the human experience.
I'll really be looking forward to listening to these guys!
jesus christ kill me
This video has so much power. I love Rise Against and hate how few people can accept reality and not look away. If only everyone would do just a small step in the right direction so much could change.....
one of those songs that just get more relevant the more time goes on
You sometimes don’t really like a group but sometimes you hear a song that really hits and now you want to go back and see what I was missing. Am a fan now and look forward to the new stuff!!
what the fuck did you say??????
the number cockroaches in the pentagon, was that the insect kind or the human variant?
pretty sure it was the human variant.
+Andrew Leslie It's gotta be.
Human. A little earlier in the song, he mentions how the wealthy elites, corporate media and politicians make it out to be that we the people are the fucking leeches "we are the rust upon your gears, we are the insects in your ears, we crawl all over you".
I think he means not just in the Pentagon but people associated too
Someguy583 I think it's literall cockroaches. It's ment to show how the pentagon is rotting
Rise against are more inspiring then i thought... before listening to this, and make it stop, i had only heard "worth dying for".
It’s amazing how much better this genre is when you actually have a message.
"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."
This is an instructional video. 🔥🔥🔥
Rise Against is taking over my life and I'm completely okay with it.
me too, man
one of the best things that can happen to people !
me 2 im also ok with them taking my whole life away from me
Never let any one thing influence you this much brother.
I miss guitar hero....playing this song on world tour almost made me put my head through the ceiling.
This song needs to be in the radio
It was....
@@kylelee1911 I think they mean it needs to be nowadays lol
It was a major radio hit for the band tho
If you saw my comment on "Prayer Of The Refugee", consider this a part 2.
This was another song I listened to in that mental hospital that helped make the stay for me (and those other kids) better. Not so much the content in the video but that the music was a light in the darkness of how life was for me (and those kids) 1 year ago. Thank you so much Rise Against. I don't think you know how much this music helped get me through that tough time in my life.
Even today this video is relevant
Don't think this is going to stop being relevant anytime soon.
I don't even have words to describe how great rise against is.
This is the sort of video that my friends and I discuss a lot while we're hanging out. Its definitely a bad idea at times but I'm glad videos like this one exist.
i love how the censored version leaves out every single one of these facts that we need to know
Censored for the weak-minded idiots
+Brittany Brown no way really!? >:( I've never seen the censored ver.
None of these facts are really all that important, they're just put here to make you think this video is saying more than it actually is.
***** Somebody disagrees with you = Call them an idiot. Need directions back to the Trump rally mate?
***** With a good education you'd know that smugness and name calling do not an argument make. These "facts" are easily twistable statistics speaking in broad generalizations.
Everyone commenting about how it's crazy how this video is still applicable... Of course it is. Nothing has changed. Nothing has gotten better. The ills spoken of in this video are inherent to the current political/economic system. None of the reform you've seen put into place has ameliorated these problems - and it won't. This is how the system works, and that's the point of the video.
I love this song, the video, the message & rise against in general ❤️🖤
I think it‘d be great, if they would remake the video with today’s facts.
Amazing attitude, they should do a remake for 2023!
"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable." ~JFK~
Llew KaMiamos Well... hopefully 1776 will not have to commence again and we can just drain the swamp...
Zach E drain the swamp deez nuts. Trumps appointees are more corrupt than the current cabinet
Deez Nuts still better then the Obama administration.
Well the us goverment hasnt stopped any revolutions but a good example would be spain and catalonia.
The Ouchiegiver not at all. I can't believe how blind trump voters can be. Or is it because you're actually *that* stupid?
Every year I find this song more important
I am completely and utterly convinced that humanity is going to destroy the world if the majority does not change their ways. I'm trying to change my ways myself, when I start living on campus next year I'm taking on vegetarianism, I don't drive, I have sworn off violence unless it is self defense, and I support human, and I mean all human, rights. I want to go into activism, I'm just not sure how.
Update?
In today's technology, (if you can afford it no offense), you can get an electric car.
@@vikiss47 Well, that is, if you get your electricity through renewable resources.
Mike White Yes or will produce the car by yourself bc car factories are also using non-renewal energy sources
"No son los rebeldes, los que crean los problemas del mundo. Son los problemas del mundo los que crean a los rebeldes."
-Ricardo Flores Magón.
Esa cita fue estupida!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This band just always gives me those summer vibes, regardless of the lyrics
We have too remember this was made in 2010 man one decade later it feels more real than anything.
It's not lost on me that the censored version of the music video doesn't remove the insinuation of terrorism but the facts and statistics
i've come to the conclusion that these guys can do no wrong. everything they do is awesome
Thanks so much Rise Against, you guys are the best, trying to create a point in the world. Hopefully you will make a change in history. :)
Why so few views?! This is honestly one of their best songs. High school nostalgia... These songs certainly hold up.
This is what we live with everyday
EVERY RISE AGAINST SONG IS TIMELESS!
Sweet Jesus this actually motivates me to do something in the world. Hell, when I am older and have money I know I can make a difference. As a 17 year old girl living at home with no job, I'm not sure what to do... i wish I could meet them and just have them help me on figuring that out.
Did you end up figuring it out?
@@23Harlequin i was just about to ask but really tho did you
I'm 19 myself and find myself in the same situation you were in, do you have any advice?

'Cause I still am, and I still do"

Now do this music video again with updated stats. We need this.
One of the best songs and videos in youtube, I love this shit. btw why the hell there's even a censored and uncensored version? I like this version better.
This band is brilliant and too see the lyrics play out is crazy, this song literally is telling us "watch the government is gonna fuck u"and it did!best band ever hands down they're lyrical geniuses in my opinion
This is more relevant now than it has ever been, god or originator bless us all to overthrow.
Wow can’t believe I am back in the 10 years later crazy how things change and we grow as people . Stay blessed!❤️💜
Always loved this song, first time I saw the video. Now I love it even more lol.
Kids are gonna find this in 30 years and be like, you guys knew this was happening and didn't do anything?? sigh...
Its pretty fucked up that the numbers in the video are actually smaller than they are now.
John Wardell and its only gotten worse....
yet you still drive a V8. eat 3 chickens a week and shit into the ocean. haha. Yeah were fucked.
Actually I bicycle, eat things that I grow or raise myself, and live in a town that purifies sewage.
except for the number of western whales, that's lower
Exactly, we were given these animals for a reason. It's just that we need to learn to respect them and the life they're giving us.
This epitomizes my love my Rise Against!
stuff like this is currently also happening in Kiev
great song BTW i love this band

The more things change the more things stay the same
You got me through 5 years of florida prison. I had you in my ear247. I met you at bravo cucina italian in milwaukee,I screwed up your order and the only time I broke company policy to not redo your order per your request the breading was held together by egg and you are a vegan like my then wife. You were right in what you said to me about that. I must apologize to you in person. Thank you for the more than generous tip from the band.
It’s 2024 and this hits harder now than when it first came out!
In the wise words of Dave Grohl to be a punk rocker you just need to know three chords and have a big heart.
These guys are the perfect encapsulation of punk rock. I’m so glad I found them 🤘
We are the rust upon your gears
Solidarity 2020
When hearing this song for the first time ever, thought is was about dead-end jobs and how debilitating they can be.
+Victor Amadeus III Of Sardinia Kill your sheeo? What
It is kind of about that.
I saw them last night in concert last night and Jesus this song hits you way harder live, absolutely love these guys
Llevo 4 años buscándola
Y al fin la vuelvo a escuchar
After all this time since this song has released, have things gotten better or worse? Because I’m really not sure. Have we made any progress at all?
I've been asking myself the same thing...this song is way more relevant now sadly...
Things have gotten worse for sure. Those numbers are even more horrific today. Nearly 68,000 people die each year due to a lack of health care. Up from the 45,000 their statistic says in the video.
These issues have a spot light on them now... compared to when rise against first tried to wake us up to these problems. Change is happening... slowly.
Thank god for guitar hero world tour 🎸
i am so in into your songs, its like your letters come into my mind before i know you rise against. i listen to your songs last year first time :) you have soul in all songs i feel it....
We need to spread the message of songs like this to change the world, anyone can make a difference, LET RISE AGAINST"S MESSAGE BE KNOWN!!!!
It's not like Rise Against is the greatest band today....oh, wait...what am I saying???? They ARE the greatest band today. At 55, I have seen a lot of bands live.
***** Thanks fopr the tip. A bit more pop than Rise Against, but definitely worth listening to. Plus, they have several albums on Amazon Prime so I can listen for free.
midnight_storm_(vǫrðr) Your reading comprehension is shallow.
This really fits 2020...
Defeat isn't going down it's staying down
Why do I get the feeling that the Pentagon cockroaches are not only 'bugs?'
love MUSIC
Didn't notice this was playing and thought it was my own heart beating lol
The world needs these guys now more than ever.
I'm not sure why everyone is so confused/ offended/ shocked by this video and the depiction of the city burning. Everyone is so fucking ignorant in our culture, taking everything literally and at face value, and not caring to question or give thought to the things that offend us (which will most always be the most beneficial to think about, as it takes us out of our comfort zone and typical thought patterns that keep us ignorant to any greater truth.)
There's a reason they show the JFK quote at both the beginning and end of the video. The entire thing is emphasizing that point, not condoning or promoting terrorism. It is reiterating what John F Kennedy said in a manner that grabs the viewers attention. If peaceful revolution isn't an option, then citizens are going to start taking matters into their own hands with perhaps drastic measures.
