For real though! I’ve had to go back and jam the bands I listened to when I was a kid. You always picture what they would look like and sometimes you’re on point like with this band and others not so much.
I saw them in Peoria, Illinois in 1995. Me and my buddy ran in to them at a pizza place before the show and had a beer with the band and Todd asked us if we would help with security during the show so we got to be right behind the rail next to the stage the whole show and had beers with them after the show. One of my best memories of the 90's.
two hit wonders. After their first album, the sales were poor leaving their label no choice but to refuse their third album because the band sucked. No, they are not underrated. They are terrible
@@carl5381 the entire rubberneck album was dope as hell what are you talking about? Way worse bands got much more coverage than them. I get they’re not your cup of tea but they weren’t terrible. They weren’t making their label money so they got cut.. that’s business and sucks that creativity should get hindered by a label
I saw them about 3 or so years ago live, they seriously sound as good live as they do on record, even after all these years. Super humble guys, appreciated everyone for showing up and were just all around amazing. I can't give them enough respect. Dare I say they sounded better when I went to their show than I've ever heard them. They played at a Crawfish Festival in Spring, Texas and were the main act.
What a great band from the 90's. Saw them live at the Stone Pony in 1995 or 6, cant remember... but the show was awesome, band had great energy. Bass player rules.
I used to stay up to watch live performances... recorded on VHS tapes... This was "The John Stewart Show"... that guy had some of the best guests and the live bands that played were varied and bordering GENIUS... One of my favorites was this one (It was "Possum Kingdom" (main) and the outro song was "Mister Love"! Ran out that weekend and bought the cassette! (It could have been a weekday... I dunno... booze, herb and Pepsi make things a bit fuzzy) Rubberneck is A perfect album no fillers! I don't know about you guys_ "I Come From The Water" and "I Burn", are my favorites... Hum, Girls Against Boys, Helmet, Faith No More, An amazing version of of "Seasons In The Abyss"! Quicksand were on it for all sake! Danzig while THE MIGHTY CHUCK BISCUITS still on drums!... These I lost however the memory is still strong and will never leave... Toadies have been one of my favorite bands... Todd has a voice as individual as the late great Layne Staley... Listen to the live album they put out, as good a testament to the greatness! I'm gonna shut up now... ALL HAIL TOADIES!!!
There was so much good music around Denton in the 90’s. I love how the Toadies promote the other local De ton bands The bassist has a Caulk shirt on here and the drums have a Baboon sticker in the music video.
Oh this was so my jam back in the day!!! This song catapults me right back to what I was going thru at the time! So crazy how music does that. Bitchen band! This whole album rocked!
Was sitting in my car, waiting for the Wife to finally get out of the convenience store (she can shop anywhere) when this came on. That car had a pretty good sound system, and when the riffs started, I cranked it. The gittars, bass line, drumming ,I knew I was listening to a masterpiece. Took me a while to find who did it, and the song title. "Possum Kingdom" who woulda knew? Also a while to figure out the lyrics. Finally the lights came on. Now resides on my top ten list. Oh yeah the Wife dint come out till it was over. Good girl.
i saw Vaden Lewis with Burden Brothers in the early 2000s at Bleacher's in LUbbock and they made Toadies look like beginners. Burden Brothers rocked, too bad they were hitting it up at the end of an era.
Love Bush. But they blew them Brits off the stage. Boy, I also heard they gave Gavin so much shit on that tour. Life isn't easy being good-looking guy. Its not.
Getting that great raw sound (where it's a cross between yelling and singing) is all about breath control and diaphragm strength. Check out the instructional video, "The Art of Screaming," by Melissa Cross. She's worked with dozens of professional vocalists to help improve their technique so they sound great but don't damage their throats. Even if you're not trying to scream like a hardcore or metal vocalist, her breathing techniques are amazing and will carry over to any genre where the singing style is a little hard on the chords. Check it out!
The Zen of Screaming is Melissa Cross. The Art of Screaming is Susan Carr, who trained a lot of the Seattle singers in the early 90's. I have both, and they are great. :)
My first paycheck from long John silvers bought me this cd and weezers blue album
Justin West now that’s a kid with good priorities! Hell yeah.
That sentence is the most beautiful thing I've read this year. Thanks for brightening my day from four years ago.
Dude, Money well spent!!!
Bro that's the most 90s thing I've ever heard lol. Fucking legend.
I remember stealing my dads rubberneck cd out of the back of his rx-7
That bass line is so badass whole song how these guys weren’t bigger is beyond me
only good song
@@kramkram2 nah, you trippin
I would say, this is one of the few bands that the singer looks exactly like I thought he would
Whoa, good point!
Haha yes… the singer from Reef (Gary stringer) looked exactly as I imagined him to when I listened to their records for the first time.
For real though! I’ve had to go back and jam the bands I listened to when I was a kid. You always picture what they would look like and sometimes you’re on point like with this band and others not so much.
The singer from The Black Crowes also looks like I thought he would lol
Yup, that voice usually looks just like that, haha. There's a science to it
No heavy signal processing, no digital track manipulation, no FUCKING auto-tune. Just four musicians doing their thing!
yeah they used distortion and pedals though, so it's not real music. Real music doesn't need instruments.
And he sounds incredible. I'm a singer and this is a HARD song to sing. Kudos
That bass riff is my favorite part.
Fat and growly with the Rick!
She’s a beast
Lisa Umbarger on bass, reported back in 2021 she was fighting cancer, loved her bass riffs
mine too
Bass players energy here is amazing. Such a great contribution to the positive vibe

@@carl5381 you're stupid as a rock. the toadies are and were amazing.
They were great live
Masterpiece of a song. The off tempo and lyrics are super deranged yet have so many meanings
That bass performance brings it all together
Lisa Umbarger is such an underrated bass player.
His voice is amazing.
I miss the 90's when mainstream media actually embraced good bands once in a while.
Mainstream didn't embrace Toadies tho lol. They never actually made it
@@lastfewtokes Possum Kingdom and Tyler got a ton of radio play on mainstream rock radio. They weren’t the biggest band ever, but they did okay.
Lisa is having a lot of fun lol
2022 anyone? These guys sound every bit as good live as they do in the studio!
It takes a real music NERD of a band to do that. They know their shit.
Just a flawless performance.
I fished possum kingdom a few times and jamed this song on the way to the lake everyday
One of the Best songs of the 90s!!
Underrated talent in the grunge era!
One band that actually sounds good live
+Adrian Salazar nah bro I love those bands too

We had real rock.

Lisa has some killer tone. Love it!

his voice is really powerful, love it!!
Possibly the most unique song I've ever heard
The beat hits hard
The arrangement is so subtle genius
Lisa just makes the dog walk... I can't get enough.
Sounds so damn good
What an excellent singer
This tape was great, front to back, both sides.
long live lisa

Toadies are the real deal! you've gotta be a rock to roll, Toadies are rock solid! Great band, great music, thank you!!!
He looks like he’s about to tell me “do not seek the treasure”
He's looks like he just escaped off the Penal Farm
Nice
LMFAO so true
These guys were so great live
Saw them in 1999 at SXSW and Lisa was the heart and soul of that band whipping the crowd up into a frenzy! What a set they did!
Just stumbled upon them. How’s I never hear this banger in the 90’s?
I think this was on Jon Stewart's old talk show. Kick ass.
yes it was. he always had the best music too. first time i saw hum toadies manson etc...

Affirmative. I feel so lucky to have spent my 20s during this Era in DFW..We were definitely blessed with some killer bands and a helluva scene.

my favorite band ... man I feel old
this is one of my favorite songs of all time. awesome melody and song structure and it’s not all in 4. truly a very creative band
Best show I’ve ever seen.
Wow .. it sounds better live!
When the music mattered and when it was good the simple image you see became the style.
That was awesome!
Love the Primus feel.
One of the absolute greatest songs of all time and criminally-underrated.
Flawless performance, super tight- man I miss the 90s
That creeping bassline is fuckin ACE! 👌thx for this.
I need to remaster this to be louder man this band is so underrated
Just turn it up to 11....
seriously, bass is it, large and simple, glorius

The best live band. For. Sure.
Godamn this rocks🥰

One of the many albums I got as a teenager that Columbia House still probably wants their money for hahaha
Saw them open for Bush in the mid-90's. The crowd went absolutely nuts.
Principal Vernon saw HUM the toadies and bush in Tampa. Later on the toadies would play in Tampa every year saw them 5 yrs in a row
