My favorite "Penguin" moment comes from Burgess Meredith in 1980. In 80 he hosted, with Priscilla Presley and Jim Stafford, a show called "Those Amazing Animals" in which they'd feature stories about animals. In one episode they featured a large number of penguins and at the end of the segment Burgess Meredith adopted his Penguin voice from his time in the 60's Batman show, and told the penguins to follow and he'd show them how to walk like the penguins do, and then turned his back to camera and waddled away... the penguins seemed to look at each other, and then followed en mass. And it just looked so much like how Burgess was walking it has long stuck in my head, almost forty years later. As always, thank you so very much all for your wonderful video.
I thought watching Dan break was always pretty epic since they don’t happen that often but I think Spencer making Dan, Joe, and Danielle all loose it at once takes the cake! Never change Spencer.
Spencer was in excellent form on this one "not for Daniel" and "sometimes you gotta kill your babies" got me good. I think commentaries is my favourite content from yall.
I lost it at "Sometimes you gotta kill your babies!" Not just cause of the line, but the reactions from Danielle, Dan, and Joe. Everyone just lost it!!! LMAO! 24:58 if anyone missed it.
I'm not sure if Jon Bailey is local to them, necessarily. I know he lives in Cali, but I'm not sure if it's something that he could make the time to go and film in person too often, with the travel time and his other voice work commitments. I'd love to see him do it though.
I’m pretty sure in the “makings of honest trailer” video they did they said Jon Bailey actually lives in Tennessee? And isn’t local. He’s been to LA a few times I’m sure and was most recently on a movie fight about two years or so back
The ridiculous, over the top stuff works much better in this film, compared to the sequels, as it's grounded in characters that feel real due to having relatable, human feelings motivating them. The villains in the next two films are cartoon characters (not to disparage cartoons! - I'm referring to very simple cartoon-making with little ambition, the type usually made exclusively to entertain children), with no real, palpable depth. Also, stylistically, I think the dark, gothic atmosphere is much more pleasing visually, compared to the garish bright, neon colours.
I kinda feel like the 60s movie is it’s own honest trailer though..I mean anything that has a ladder labelled the “bat ladder” or “bat anti shark repellent” has to be sending its self up...right?
While Porn Parody titles are no longer punny, the Batman XXX Porn Parody is incredibly tonally faithful to Adam West Batman. Also the Spider-Man XXX Porn Parody has more canonically accurate character dynamics and backstory than most of the Spider-Man films. Yes, I actually watch porn parodies for the plot.
I absolutely LOVE Batman Returns. I cannot believe Keaton was only in it for 13 or so minutes. I guess that's how amazing it was, when you don't even notice the main character isn't around much.
Some day when you feel it necessary to do another Honest Trailers on Honest Trailers, I hope there is a clip of Joe asking, "How many nipples does a cat have?"
Jake Tibbs seems like they’re just deleting everything. I understand why, but I wish they’d show some understanding about this situation and how complex it is for fans. How and why did loving this crazy, weird, fun yt show become so draining
I actually miss having both the trailer and commentary on the same day. The trailer is so short I like going straight into the commentary while the trailer is fresh in my mind. Guess I’ll just wait to watch both on Wednesday 😞
My favorite Batman Movie toooooooo! Dear christ, Pfieffer's Catwoman is unparalleled! She is what I want to be when I grow up still!!! Thank you for giving this one its due.
I re-watched the film right before watching the trailer & was sure you'd mention the ridiculous fireplace. I swear there's a solid chunk of tree the size of a car in there. Considering you didn't have the same high opinion of this one as Joe you all really enjoyed talking about it & quoting from it, I definitely think it's underrated. 89' is still my favorite but it's close & Catwoman in this is one of the all time best female superheroes.
Batman (1989) from Burton was a good film. It was this one, Batman Returns, where the Burton/Shumacher franchise started to go down the toilet. Because it became LESS about the hero, and more about the Villains & who would play them. I remember after the first one came out, all the rumors flying around at the time on who was going to be in the sequel. That Nicholson would return to play Joker. Robin Williams would be The Riddler, Danny Devito would be Penquin, and it was either Cher or Madonna to play Catwoman. It all became less about the hero and more about the villains, and also about the soundtrack and marketing. And then Shumacher buried it in its grave from that point.
Next week it's going to be Dogma - Jason Mewes' Madness in the Method comes out in the US next week and you can bet that him and Kevin Smith will cameo in the honest trailer to promote the film (and also Jay and Silent Bob Reboot coming out soon).
oooh sweet, didn't think of that at all (in all fairness, I had zero clue Mewes had a project of his own about to release). I think I still consider Dogma to be my favorite overall Kevin Smith movie.
Am I the only one taking in Dan's full name is Daniel. I've been watched SJ for years now and I'm just taking that in. When Spencer said "daniel" I lost it. I mean it's normal but wow
They did. Weren't you paying attention in the beginning? They said that the only live action one they haven't done yet, is the Batman movie from 66 that starred Adam West, and it was essentially the characters/actors from the TV show.
It wouldn’t work because it would be the typical “western people can’t understand the anime, oh look schoolgirl maids, booobs” jokes you see in every similar joke.
Maybe they could if it was a REALLY mainstream property, or a single feature or something. Japan also has far stricter copyright regulations, preventing RUclipsrs from showing clips.
It’s definitely funny. Don’t hold back on jokes like that just because of potential backlash. Most wont have an issue, as long as it’s not intentionally mean, it’s all good.
17:40 I'd like to object, Oswald Cobblepot from 'Gotham' is actually the best penguin. Then danny de vito, though on ocassion he has to struggle with the one from arkham city for that spot.
First of all.... the best acted scene in any Batman movie, is when Bruce and Selina are dancing and realize each other's secret identity.... heartbreaking
I still say this Penguin is tied with the one from Batman Adventures. fallen ex-rich socialite turned crime lord after traveling to the orient anti-Bruce Wayne was great.
@@ieatgremlins YES IT IS GOOD. Follows closely to the book though some scenes are cut and small changes were made. There's also additional content not included from the book. Basically, a demon and angel try to stop the apocalypse that will be done by the Antichrist. It has humor and touching moments.
If you guys do a promotion for Women in Film again or something similar, how much would one have to donate to sit in on the Honest Trailers writers' room? It seems like a hoot. Potentially a hoot and a half

I almost picked up my cat to see how many nipples he has.

There was a version of the speech in the script but apparently Rutger wrote this line himself the night before filming.
I didn't know that Paul Reubins played Penguin's father in this movie. He later played Penguin's father in Gotham

This is my favorite Batman movie prior to the Nolanverse. But I fully admit that it is more a Tim Burton movie than a Batman movie.
Tim Burton had a balance between Light hearted weirdness and Darkly Morbid weirdness.
Darth Sader at his best, he always did. Even Sleepy Hollow had its moments of campy humor.
