      Le jeune D.Scarlatti a été avec son père à la cour des Medici à Florence lorsque Cristofiri y travaillait pour les Medici, il avait inventé le pianoforte qualques 5 ans avant.
      Le vieux D.Scarlatti, à la cour de Madrid, avait à sa disposition pas un mais 5 pianofortes de la reine d'Espagne. On est pas certain de sa relation avec l'instrument (le mystérieux, ça laisse la place à la fantaisie) mais on est sûr qu'il les a connu (vu et probablement joué) assez souvent dans sa vie. Le pianoforte est apparu en Allemagne, pour J.S.Bach, C.P.E.Bach et Handel, beaucoup plus tard qu'au monde où Scarlatti circulait.

      That's exactly what I was thinking 😊! In romantic repertoire, I hate what she does which is completely out of style, but here and also in modern/contemporary I love her playing!! She's not the only one to play Scarlatti that well of course, but it's nice to hear that she is really good at it.

    • @ericastier1646
      @ericastier1646 Год назад +1

      I heard two others just before this one, and they're no less good, in fact she is overpedalling and her left hand is a bit lazy playing. She over emphasizes those static trills and looses her tone in the more beautifuls part. So no, not the best and yes it's a very difficult piece, so she is still doing a good job but that's about it. Sergey Babayan is far more musical and much better left hand and clarity.

      Eliane Reyes which I just listened too is also great. But I love Mrs Wang here. In romantic repertoire she is completely out of style, but in Scarlatti and modern music (like Bartok concerti!) she is really good. It's a pleasure.

    I, too, love the fast, ultra-accurate playing. But has no one told her that trills and most other ornaments at that time began with the UPPER note, not the lower? For two very different, though nonetheless perfectly proper ways of how to play this music, I refer her to Glenn Gould and Scott Ross.

    • @trustiful
      @trustiful 10 лет назад +12

      I too was once a stickler for the upper auxiliary rule. But when you hear truly great artists such as Richter, Heifetz, Piatagorski, Stern, Gieseiking, and numerous others., continually violate the rule, you realize how silly it is to focus attention on it. Perfectly proper ways of playing? One has only to listen to the pantheon of great musical artists and the variety in execution and interpretation to understand that each has his own notion of what is perfectly proper. And that the guidelines are just that, guidelines. The end is to make beautiful music.

      +Guillermo Rosales It may also be noted that Scarlatti did many unorthodox things during his time and so starting the trill from the bottom note may not be such an anomaly after all

    Not mechanical play as fast as possible--listen to Michalengeli. No, more shallow Asian bigotry by someone shilling for the wondeful Mr. Schiff...who plays Scarlatti with a bit too much 'romantic' flair for my taste. Yuja's scrupulous and clean play is more in line with the music's Baroque roots....waaay nicer.
    Listen to some of the slower sonatas by her to to get the real musical measure of her superb Scarlatti playing.

  • @Soytu19
    @Soytu19 8 лет назад +2

    You are great, Yuja. But you need more strengh in your fingers to play this piece in my opinion, i mean hit that more, the counterpoint must be seen. You must hit the keys with percussive touch. Just think about this: this was composed for the harpsichord which doesn't allow different touching intensities, it always sounds as strong as always.

    • @michaelschefold3299
      @michaelschefold3299 7 лет назад +4

      JulianJules Ist's Scarlatti! not Bartok!

    • @Soytu19
      @Soytu19 7 лет назад +2

      So what? It's all about historically informed interpretations. This was composed for harpshicord therefore it would make more sense if it was played more "percussively" since the harpshicord has not different touching intensensites, the note always sounds as strong as always, you can't make "piano" or "pianissimo" in the harpshicord. And that was precisely the intention of Glenn Gould when he played Bach the way he did. The strong counterpoint must be seen and it is better to play it more strong for such a thing.

    • @Radiatoron88
      @Radiatoron88 3 года назад

      It seems questionable that one must try to imitate the harpsichord when playing music written for the harpsichord on the piano. The piano is not a harpsichord, of course, but playing Scarlatti on a modern concert grand piano brings out other--and more beautiful, in my opinion--qualities in the music. Yuja Wang's feathery butterfly-like touch hear is truly "music to my ears" in this Scarlatti sonata, absolutely exquisitely rendered. I can't help but imagine that Scarlatti himself would be excited to hear his music played this beautifully on a concert grand piano. It might not be "authentic," but I'd much rather hear Scarlatti's harpsichord sonatas played on a modern concert grand. I'm not sure that absolute equality of sound from one note to the next--what you refer to in your comment on the harpsichord "which doesn't allow different touching intensities" and "always sounds as strong as always" is something that makes music more musical and beautiful. That sounds to me more like a prescription for how to make music sound more wooden.

      machine playing this is a highend performance.
      Overall talking I do dislike the keyboard runners
      whose performances look as a mere showing off
      exercise to me,yet I'd like you to digit the following YT videos:
