I think they originally designed it for APS-c but then realized it covers the almost whole full frame (with slight vignetting in the corners) so they were like "Okay, let's market it as an FF lens 😂. Anyways, great review as always!
You nailed it! Price vs. Performance. 7 Artisans has a winner here. Not something I would buy but a great recommendation for someone getting started, and they won't be embarrassed by their shots if they do their part.
Talking about new TTArtisan AND cheap manual lenses, it would be very interesting a review of the recent 25mm f2 for sony aps-c. There are almost no manual lenses below 50mm neither reviews. I (and many others, I suppose) would really appreciate it. Great job yours over here, Arthur. Greetings from Mexico City.
Compared to typical prices of 'vintage' manual lenses, this is a bargain. Looks like better quality than the typical Chinese-made 'no real brand' units too.
I think I will stick with my "SMC Pentax M 50mm f2.0" which I got for $28.00 last week, and works Fantastic on both APS-C and Full Frame Sony Sensors. There are a lot of Videos here that cover that lens, my favorite is from "vyoufinder"... extremely comprehensive comparison of all Pentax 50mm lenses. ...and he shoots with a Sony A7II in Moab, Utah.
Hey which one should i get 7Artisans 35mm F1.4 or TT Artisans 35mm, TT artisans 50mmf2 1.4 or 7artisans 50mm F1.8 for portraits, Fashion and versatile lens?
Hear me out, I think there something to be said here abt vintage manual lenses. I came across a fujifilm reviewing (considering changing to fuji but I'll stick to Sony) who pointed out something that hit home. Many lens manufacturers these days place a heavy emphasis on optical perfection that the lens ends up not having character. That "character" are the imperfections that give the lens a specific look when shot with. Another honest review but I think it comes down to price vs performance and personal preference. I can't afford multiple $400 lenses and def on the budget side, but what I find with these manual lenses it makes u pay attention a bit more.
The first half of his sample photos were on an APS-C sensor... Take a look at them! As far as "How well do Full-Frame lenses work on APS-C" goes, you should be aware that Full-Frame lenses will present less vignette on an APS-C sensor than they do on the Full-Frame sensor. Furthermore, they might also resolve differently than they would on Full-Frame. This is because the lens has only so much resolution/sharpness in its optical design and a higher megapixel camera will not produce greater detail. The density of the resolution (Megapixels) on an APS-C sensor is usually quite higher than a Full-Frame sensor, which explains why lenses can look less sharp when mounted on a smaller sensor than what they were designed for. Compare a 10.2 megapixel A7S III sensor to a 24.7 megapixel a6000 sensor, as an extreme example. A less extreme example would be the 33 megapixel A7 IV compared to the a6000. The a6000 still has nearly twice the resolution density of its 7-year-newer bigger brother, A7 IV. CONCLUSION: A Full-Frame lens is designed for a less dense sensor and will therefore struggle to appear as sharp when mounted on an APS-C camera. But, all of this assumes the lens designers did not account for APS-C users. Some lenses are designed to be so sharp, they appear identically on either sensor size.
Hey Arthur. I know this is not related to this video but I need to get it out of my chest. I bought Sony A6400 a couple of months back and only later came to know about the Canon R10. And since then I'm dying from the inside cuz it looks like that the Sony A6400 killer is finally out. Do you agree? And if not then give reasons. I too want some sort of reassurance that I didn't make a bad purchase.
The real question here is is that better than Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 G2 at 50. Probably not :) If you have money for full frame, you also have money for good standard zoom. What I learned from buying glass that buying cheap lenses that don't significantly beat your basic zoom are just going to get shelved and I'm not going to ever use them. Waste of money.
F stop show some hints , for 50 F 0.95 the aperture size will be like 50mm or more while 50 F2 the aperture size only have 25mm in size physically and some optical design will have smaller diameter and use less element sometimes great video , informative and i love pancake lens :)
Yes, I think Amazon sellers raised the price. Its on sale for $65 direct from TTartisan here: ttartisan.myshopify.com/products/multi-mounts-50mm-f2-0?ref=1id2ee7XprK-lH
Weather sealing should be the standard of all lensens in this day and age. I am more willing to try other unusual lenses as long as they are weather sealed.
Why don't you just go out and get a 50mm f1.4 used lens from a 35 mm camera like Nikon, Canon with lens mount adapter that can be used on other used lenses? There are a ton of them out there.
I think the maker TTartisan really wanted to claim the title of "the cheapest full frame lens", which led to push an APS-C lens a little bit further to cover the full frame sensor size. It might be better called a pretty good APS-C lens also covering full frame.
*looking around* Got a secret for you.....I enjoyed photography more when I had the A6000 and cheap manual lenses than with the A7R3 w/ a bag full of f/1.4 primes....*now back to your video*
I appreciate the love for some budget gear but really? Soft photos with very blurry corners, vignetting and tons of CA but hey, why not? No thanks, I wouldn't even shoot with that if it were given to me. You can get MUCH better lenses for the same price on the used market.
Never cheap out on a lens. Never. Your camera is not as important as your lens. Your sensor just reads out the light that your lens sends through and a crappy, cheap lens will send crappy, cheap light to the sensor, resulting in a crappy, cheap image. Let's put aside all the irrelevant lens charts, ''bokeh'' and pixel peeping and talk about what actually matters in a camera lens: 1. Rendering of depth and dimensionality of objects in the image, 2.Micro contrast, 3. Apochromatic elements and 4. Aspherical lens design... This lens lacks all of the aforementioned. - No APO glass elements. - No ASPH lens design. - Micro contrast is non-existent. - Flat rendering of depth and dimensionality of objects in the image. 5:13 Just take a look at this mess, look at the leaves that are in focus - you can barely tell which leaves and branches are closer and which further away from you. Absolutely terrible depth and dimensional rendering. Same can also be clearly seen with the portraits at 5:05, 5:14, 5:16 and 5:20. No dimensionality, no tonality, no depth, nothing... A dead flat lens, right on par with terrible Sigma, Samyang, Tamron, Canon, Sony... etc. lenses, except this one comes at a way cheaper price, at $69. Not worth it. Rather save that money towards getting yourself a Zeiss, Voigtlander, Leica or Hasselblad lens, so you can create art instead of glorified, flat rendered snapshots.

This pal is always showing us the other side of good and insteresting equipment (low budget, cheap, whatever hehehe)
🤜🤛

It’s coming!
Especially for astro !
Looks at the thumbnail ... NICE!
great review as usual!
You've got some great looking photos out of this lens. That's a killer deal.
I've had other 7 artisans lenses and they're pretty good for the price. They're pretty fun manual lenses
A must have!
Keep up the great work!
You definitely deserved that invitation 👍
Compared to typical prices of 'vintage' manual lenses, this is a bargain. Looks like better quality than the typical Chinese-made 'no real brand' units too.
Interesting lens. The results definately look better than I would expect for $69.

One nice thing about this lens is it's something related to my hobby I won't feel bad about putting on a wishlist for my birthday or Christmas 😂

Still loving my 25mm 1.7 , looking forward to get this one 😁
I have the 50mm1.4 ttartisan happy with it 👍
I once tested an Industar 50-2 50 / 3.5, the smallest 50 M42. TTArtisan and Industar have many similar characteristics
Can you please review Tokina SZ-33mm f1.2 E mount !!
Early on, You ntion a tutorial You've made, concerning the content setup. I can't seem to see it in Your description though?
Jut bought it! Cant wait to try it!
Im planning to buy sony fx30... so can I use this lens with that camera or video ?
Is it worth to buy ? if I have TTartisan 50mm 1.2
As simple as it gets in all the best ways
Would it be useful if I have the sigma 30mmF1.4 Any suggestions?
I know it’s designed for a ff Sony but will it work well with the a6000 or is it a waste for that platform?
The first half of his sample photos were on an APS-C sensor... Take a look at them!

It would be a 75mm on APSC
Anything that is designed for sony full frame will always work on a6000. It's the same mount.
It work great with my A7C, especially when I use it to walk around and took street photography
Nisi has released a 9mm f2.8 apsc ultra-wide-angle lens, and would like to see a comparison with laowa 9mm f2.8.angle lens
I need wide angle varience
It's all metal or have plastic parts?

just shoot with it, get the best out of the camera. specs dont make anyone better

It's not for you, anyway.
it reminds me to my old voigtlander 40mm and 20mm...

It shows as $79 when I go to Amazon via the link above. Regardless, very nice price for sure!!

And 99 euros for Amazon Europe. Thanks to import taxes...
They show the lens for $65US on their site but that's before the $30 in shipping. $79 from Amazon is cheaper, and faster with next day delivery.
Can this lens communicate the aperture/shutter speed info to the camera body?
Weather sealing should be the standard of all lensens in this day and age. I am more willing to try other unusual lenses as long as they are weather sealed.
Same I won’t be any new lenses unless they are. However I love trying out vintage lenses, and many are not weather sealed
Physically, and size-wise, it looks a lot like a Zuiko film lens

No, Micron is one of the largest memory makers in the world. Crucial is their brand.
I would take the Pentax-M 50mm f1.7 (or the f2.0 even) over this pupper all day.
In Amazon the price is 79
Looks like they've copied a 50mm OM Zuiko to me
At that price, I think they're just buying your metadata with a free lens.
This guy's good. I keep coming back to his reviews and haven't subscribed UNTIL NOW! His wife is hot too, which makes it a no-brainer.
You should have tested with a full frame camera.
I did. The second half of the samples are on FF.
The 50mm Summicron is the same size.
Actually it costs 99 € at amazon in Germany. 69€ would be OK, but 30€ more is not acceptable.
N I C E
what 50$??? amazing
nice
Nice
The price is “Nice”
*looking around* Got a secret for you.....I enjoyed photography more when I had the A6000 and cheap manual lenses than with the A7R3 w/ a bag full of f/1.4 primes....*now back to your video*
Looks like Zuiko lens.
hehe. nice.
It is probably more like a T2.5 or T2.8 that is why it is so cheap.
Now take that Canon!

Helios 44-2 better 😀
$79 dollars**

69. Nice

i take it that the last couple of lines are sarcasm.
