  • In this video me and Holly will be giving you an example of how the normal checklist is supposed to be read in a Boeing 737NG.
    This video is supposed to be used together with the instructional videos inside the "Mentour Aviation" app as part of the briefing package.
    Enjoy!

    Dear Mentour! I suppose that these are rules of reading a B737NG checklist of your company? The checklist seems to be different from the original Boeing one. Just as a note - Preflight checklist responses are /originally/ based on the Areas of Responsibiliy, not only the Captain is that guy who gives responses. In my previous airline they had a policy that the CPT gives responces, but then changed everything in accordance with Boeing recommendations.

    • @AbdulmuatiAsiri37
      @AbdulmuatiAsiri37 6 лет назад +4

      I agree with Denis, Boeing procedure responses are based on the Role or area of responsibility.
      If I am not mistaken the QRH have a table representing the item to be called by which pilot and the response to be made by which pilot.

    Wouldn't a "random checklist" keep you more focused? Doing the same check sequense every flight might be, simply by repedatlely human error, be missed as you follow the same precedure every flight? See you use an Ipad and maybe checklists aren't on those but that would easily put every check in a radom sequense? Hope you get my point...😜

      I’m guessing there’s a reason why the checklist is read in that particular order?

    • @NoRegertsHere
      @NoRegertsHere 6 месяцев назад +1

      There are different types of checklist.
      The ‘normal procedures’ check lists come at stages after pilots have done there set up or procedures leading up to that stage.
      For example, pilots do the flight deck set up to the point at which they’re going to brief the take off (15 mins before departure typically), then the preflight checklist is completed. It’s a read and response checklist that covers stuff that will kill ppl, essentially.
      Next after briefing, configuring hydraulics, final paper work and doors closed, the ‘before start checklist’ is completed. Read and respond.
      It continues the same way every flight. Most airlines personality profile their pilots and select those that love patterns that repeat, because when something is out of order or doesn’t feel right, it attracts their attention.
      Repeating patterns are desired by these personality types.
      There are structures to other checklists too.
      Memory item checklists (the first few steps of a reference checklist of a serious problem, like engine fire or depressurisation). They are done in order by memory and required to be known by heart. Usually only a handful of steps, but it’s for a situation that’s more critical (phase of flight or potential negative outcomes)
      Reference item checklists, like when a system caution light illuminates or system fails, like a hydraulic system. Thats a read and do style checklist.
      TLDR:
      Read and respond checklists (making sure normal procedures flight deck set ups have been performed correctly for phase of flight about to be done)
      Read and do checklists
      Non normal system failure events. Read out of a book of checklists
      Memory item checklists
      Usually the first few steps of a non normal checklist that need to be known by heart and performed without looking at any checklists

    This is absolutely not a Boeing checklist, this is a customized checklist for your company. Boeing checklist dose not have Safety checklist. The way Boeing checklist is designed that both pilot will response to the checklist item according to the area of responsibility. Overhead panel is the area of responsibility of the FO (on-ground) and Pilot monitoring (inflight).
    You as the captain responding to overhead checklist items in this video shows that your company procedure and checklist are not Boeing procedure.

    Hello!
    I don't know if this subject isn't very technical, but can you explain in a video, how the YAW Damper Works?

    • @davidpinto7542
      @davidpinto7542 7 лет назад +2

      Sweptback wing design on aircraft have an error called Dutch Roll, where the aerodynamic flow on the surfaces causes the aircraft to yaw left and right increasingly, which can become an uncontrollable situation. There is a counter to it installed on the vertical stabilizer which does this automatically. That´s the yaw damper.

    • @avamendez1272
      @avamendez1272 7 лет назад

      Gustavo Mognon I can explain how it works. I do encourage you to download the Mentour Aviation app, so much more content there. think of it as a smorgasbord of aviation knowledge😉
      the yaw damper is an interesting piece of kit, used on many jet swept wing aircraft. which dampen (reduce) the yaw and roll oscillation referred to as Dutch roll.

    • @sharoncassell9358
      @sharoncassell9358 Год назад

      Instead of you having to constantly manually trim the aircraft it's done automatically so pilots can concentrate on other issues. Fuel monitoring and flying the plane turns banking if not on autopilot. I thought auto pilot did everything but not all.

    • @AW-kr9fl

    Why isnt this stupid checklist automated and built into the system electronically?

    • @joshforresta
      @joshforresta 5 лет назад

      So pilots know exactly whats happening, how and when. If 1 wire is a little faulty after a rough landing the whole system is compromised. If theres engine trouble during the ascent the pilot needs to know exactly what the plane is trying to do and what its set for to figure out how to help and fix the problem, if this is automated he can't.
