    another aquarium heist. a fish store one day noticed that their indo pacific gold torch coral had gone missing. those corals are highly valuable and can sell for 450$. they checked the surveillance footage and noticed that someone had reached into the coral tank, grabbed the coral and shoved it in his pocket. the thief was caught and the coral war returned to the store.

      horn sharks live in rock pools, which form when the very low tide comes and parts of the ocean near the shore almost completely dry out, locking marine creatures away in very shallow pools of low oxygen water. Creatures who live in rock pools have adapted over the years to the low oxygen in very different ways, and the horn shark is extremely adapted to the rock pool environment. For example they can breath air for quite some time, and also crawl out from their rock pool to another one, through DRY LAND, in search of food or better conditions. Truly amazing creatures, even more when you consider the fact that these pools can remain this way for days at a time

    I see some people hating on zoo's and aquariums and I understand that in a perfect world every animal should be in the wild. But our world is FAR from perfect.
    Zoo's/aquariums are a necessary evil. Without zoo's to keep endangered animals in sufficient numbers to have a viable gene pool we risk losing many species to extinction.
    Even with land set aside for animal reserves, poachers still slaughter countless animals and cause the extinction of protected species.
    Even with armed guards poachers still manage to sneak into reserves under the cover of night to set traps and check ones set previously for their quarry.
    Zoo's are not perfect but they do have the benefit of making people care, which may seem crazy(it did to me at first because I care about a creatures wellbeing simply because they are sentient creatures with feelings).
    But for some reason people connect more with creatures they can see in person. It makes their plight all the more real. Then the revenue generated by ticket sales and merchandise can be used to help animals in the wild.
    But it needs to be done properly so that the physical and mental wellbeing of the animal is priority #1

    • @chantelstenner2553
      @chantelstenner2553 Год назад +1

      I think quality zoos that treat their animals with respect and give them plenty of space, activities and diets are probably an animals dream. I mean we romanticise the wild alot but when you really think about it the wild really sucks. Fighting for your life everyday, under threat of predation which may or may not just eat you Alive, humans destroying your home or poaching you. I reckon animals in the best quality zoos are living in a paradise compared to the ones in the wild. I mean if I was an animal I would prefer to be all comfy and worry free in a zoo. That is of course if the zoo cares and treats their animals like gold like they should. Really crappy zoos don't deserve the animals they have.
      Only exceptions I find are animals that always do worse in captivity. Like big marine mammals, great whites and even hermit crabs have a severe cap on their life span in captivity.

    • @allisoncurtis4260
      @allisoncurtis4260 Год назад

      @Chantel Stenner I agreed 100%, especially about orca. I mean, it's easy to understand why taking an animal with large extended families in the wild, why being separated and being isolated would be extremely cruel! It's sick to me how some people can look at such animal that are obnoxiously sentient and intelligent and not understand that they feel the same feelings and pain as humans do. They just communicate differently.
      But yeah, for some animals in good zoos, I can see how it would be heaven compared to the wild. You're right, people tend to anthropomorphize animals and assume an animal would want to be free in the wild because that is what they would want as a human. That is not always the case and to find examples just look at cats. They domesticated themselves multiple times in human history and have experienced great success living with humans to the Point they by population out number all other feline species by a huge degree!
      Other animals also benefit from humans and cities like raccoons, and in India even large mammals like panthers were found to benefit from living around cities and had increased population density.
