ペラテルエレン the main reason they die is because they need to keep swimming swim in order to filter the water through their gills to breathe because they are so big, they’re literally suffocating if they’re not moving.

Monterey was the only aquarium that was able to host a great white for 6 months, the longest ever, and managed to set it free all the while trying to provide it as much care as possible(as possible in an enclosure for studying). There are many reasons great whites can’t be in captivity… one is literally the fact they can’t be in an enclosed area for too long

What is really happening is its electrical sensory organs called the ampullae of Lorenzini are hyper sensitive in great white sharks so the poor thing is being overly stimulated and causing confusion. It's brain is struggling to process all the electricity from the lights, the pumps the filters etc it's too much input so the sharks become discombobulated and end up banging themselves into walls until they get brain damage and die. There are other factors that contribute to it. Such as depression which then causes them to stop eating, but as for why they die so quickly my previous comment should clear it up. Hope this helps. Also the longest living great white kept in captivity was in the Monterrey bay aquarium for I believe a little less than 200 days. The only reason it was able to survive that long was due to it's very small size, a little over 3 feet where typical adults are about 14 feet, the age of the shark meant that it was still consuming a diet of mainly fish, rather than the demanding, and nearly unprocurable diet (seals, sea turtles and small whales) of a more mature great white
After six months on display, the aquarium released the shark back into the wild after it attacked and killed two non-great white sharks that were in captivity with it. This video was very sad to watch, that was a mature great white kept in an empty small enclosure! I'm surprised it even lasted 3 days. Despicable of them to even attempt it

These creatures are highly emotional and territorial just like all predators. They require their natural habitat to feel safe and free in order to survive. Their eye sight is excellent as is their sense of smell and all. If you put them in an artificial environment they will know perfectly well it's not their home. Also, they do move a lot daily, they get a lot of exercise and are used to many forms of activity on a daily basis. Their reaction is somewhat similar to that of prisoners in a super-max facility. No windows, little to no activity and no hope of ever leaving that place. In comparison, placing a great white in a fucking giant glass box is all completely against their nature and they feel strangled, sick and fearful, they are too shocked to want to eat and do anything else and yeah...they are pissed off. Their systems give up, shut down and die. They are fish, but they are also highly emotional, intelligent and you can't fucking change 16 million years of great white shark evolution just because.

In Canada, Japan and even in Miami, they have large enclosed natural lagoons connected to salt water. They also had a natural lagoon a long time ago at the shark institute in the Florida keys that closed down. It housed some of the world record largest tiger sharks. This is the only possible way a small white shark could survive I feel. California I think proved a baby survived but it did not take long before it just got to big (which was not all that big either) and had to be released. The problem is, their natural diet after they gain size can not be offered humanly with seals so why in the world would anyone keep one in captivity to begin with? They would require a very huge area such as the largest all natural lagoons and even then, I feel it would be to small.

Some coincidence they accidentally built a specialized aquarium at the same time they “accidentally” caught this beauty

Sharks in captivity like this is so sad. Great whites probably get depressed. Other smaller sharks that can handle it are one thing, but this is just cruel.

Not saying it wasn’t messed up what happened to the shark. It just bothers me when people say things like “the shark was murdered.”
You can’t murder an animal. Murder is by definition the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another. If you’re going to accuse someone of something, at least know what exactly you’re accusing them of please.
Sorry, just had to let that out

Every public aquarium that kills one blames some unforeseen problem. Unforeseen for 50 years now that they can't survive in a box of water.

They can easily live up to +65 years but can't survive 3 days in captivity. I don't think there's any other animal like that. The amount of dignity and self sufficiency is immense. Truly a special creature.

Exact reason why Seaworld should be closed down and no animal should ever be held in captivity performing day after day to brainless idiots who pay money to see these poor animals do tricks for them.
