      Absolutely, The PS2 version was an excellent port and the progressive scan kept the sprites clean, unfortunatelt the Atomiswave hardware couldn't pull this off which was a real shame. Same thing happened to KOF NEOWAVE and NGBC, the PS2 ports are far superior to the Atomiswave carts. However this wasn't the case for the Rumble Fish games which looked rough on PS2 and the zoom action was nerfed.

    This was the one KOF that convinced me that changing the format from elimination 3V3 into Tag/Elimination 3V3 KOF was the way to go. What a huge leap from how bare (and fairly borked) 2003 was. XI is like, up there with all my favorite KOF games in both gameplay/roster AND OST (not so much the AST this time, the AST instruments sound a little off in some songs).

    What’s under-appreciated is that 2003 & XI is that if the players want to, they can also play matches in the classic “Team” format instead of the “Arcade” Tag format.
    The bold roster for those two games also aged better over time as SNK was daring enough to drop certain mainstays (Andy & Robert) from the roster in order to make room for newer faces and more interesting teams…
    …but the reception to some of the omissions (Mai & Leona) prove _why_ they shouldn’t have been left out in the first place.

    Easily one of my top 3 favourite KOFs alongside Kof XIII and 2000, I love almost everything about this game, the soundtrack and the character designs in Oswald, Shion and Elizabeth to the stages, the story here is also good showing some really important plot points for the future and in terms of gameplay it was a blast to do those tag combos once you learned how team synergy worked my team was Kyo/Ash/Benimaru. I remember spending hours in the challenge mode and playing along with my sibling and friends to unlock everything and have such a fun time
    The final boss in Magaki was really a nightmare to fight against easily one of the hardest bosses in Kof history. Also the arcade mode in terms of balance was something the players were used to and having a new balance mode in arrange imo made things complicated for players, the game should have been launched with the arranged balance and stages only if SNK wanted to improve the game's balance.
    Overall, this game represents the end of an era for 2d fighting games (one of the best ever made) and Kof in general as this would be the last mainline Kof game to use traditional 2d sprites which were already being reused since 1996. The game is similar to NGBC except it should have had a digital release for Xbox 360 like that game which would have resulted in increased sales.

    Back in the day it made a lot of sense to me that the game was not called KoF 2004 because it came out in 2005. I think that they ditched the annual naming because they couldn't make a game per year anymore. Although we actually had a game in 2004; the stinky KoF Neowave.

    • @acev271
      @acev271 2 месяца назад +3

By this point SNK basically gave up on the yearly name and just use Roman numeral for the sequels instead. I hate that KOF XIII went back to characters/teams from the Orochi Saga
    Seriously, 80% of that roster is Orochi Saga!
    You can say all about the SNK PLAYMORE era but the roster of many of their fighting games were great!
    SVC Chaos, Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, KOF XI
    Props to SNKP for using characters from forgotten/obscure franchises that they owned, like World Heroes

  • @kinghijinx5892
    @kinghijinx5892 2 месяца назад

    KOF11 has always been one of my personal fav KOF games. I'm a big fan of the Ash Saga and a lot of the characters it introduced like it's main protagonists Elizabeth and Ash, Oswald is super cool, Duo Lon and Shen Woo are good as well. With Elizabeth and Ash especially, I appreciated SNK being willing to have more gender nonconforming main characters for a fighting game, with how Ash presents more femme and Elizabeth presents more masc. I just really vibed with the new characters from the Ash Saga.
    And speaking of the characters, I also think XI in particular has one of the most unique KOF roster in terms of team composition and I wish more of the entries would be as experimental with their teams as this one was. This is only entry in which Whip is with Ralf and Clark but without Leona, where we get Shingo taking Chizuru's spot with the other Sacred Treasures Kyo and Iori, where King, Ryo and Yuri are the Art of Fighting team, Terry, Kim and Duck King are the Fatal Fury team, that we have a Garou team with B Jenet, Gato and Tizoc. It's also the first time where Mary teams up with the Secret Agents like Vanessa and Ramon, and also where Kula teams up with K' and Maxima which has become a very iconic team since. And what's great is that some of these were informed by the story, like the absence of Leona being because she had lost control of her Orochi blood curse in the previous game so she was off with Heidern learning how to control it, so Whip leaves her brother K' to rejoin with the Ikari Warriors, which is then why K' and Maxima end up bringing Kula as their third person. Or Chizuru being injured in the last game and her powers being taken by Ash who stole her Yata Mirror, so she send Shingo to make sure Kyo and Iori don't kill eachother on their hunt for Ash.
    Like it's all very well considered and I wish more fighting game developers cared about their story this much. The story in this game is great too with it being the middle of the Ash Saga and I love how it's presented, because there are 6 teams that all contribute the main plot and if you watch their endings in order then they all tell a continuous story, starting with Ash's team, then Sacred Treasures, Elizabeth's team, Secret Agents, K' Team and finally Ikari Warriors. Some of the other teams are also connected in their endings as well, like the AOF and anti AOF teams, Fatal Fury and Garou, with the only team that is entirely separate being the Psycho Soldiers.
    But I also really love the Ash Saga for actually adding tagging to KOF, which while I do like the traditional rounds based fight through each character KOF, I also very much appreciate the faster pace that tagging brings as well as all of the combo potential like you mentioned, and this game takes this mechanic that was introduced in 2003 and just makes it a lot more smoother and allows for more combo freedom. So yeah KOFXI is a super cool game, very much one of my faves and I appreciate the video on it.

    we really need native ports of the home versions of XI and 2000 (the current 2000 home port is one of those ps2 emulated games that don't really work well on ps5)

    This game was such a beatiful send off to the original 2D era sprites of the game (I'm aware 2002UM came after but that's a remake so not counting it lol). Seriously? Zero mention of new characters like Oswald, or even any mention of Shion who's perhaps the most interestingly desgined character in series, and one of the few that use weapons and stance changes. Instead, lets talk Magaki and Momoko! Smh lol!
    KoF XI has quite a dedicated and competitive scene in Korea. They seem to love the most obscure and totally busted KoF entires out there like this and KOF 01 😂
    I remember driving quite a few cities down just to play the game as word spread fast that a Tilt arcade in my state got it early. It was a big deal because it was the first KoF title to utilize Sammys ASW hardware more creatively (KoF Neowave generic brand 2002 dont count as that was obviously a concept game for the hardware lol!) as well as expanding on KoF 03 tag mechanic with less technical restraints as a result of the ageing AES.
    I was rather impressed by the game's new hand drawn art portaits, catchy OST and overall circular design UI motif. I eventually imported the JPN PS2 reelase back then, tho it did eventually get an official US release (and with even better package art for once!) about a year and a half later. Im willing to bet it sold quite well outside of Japan since it released out here as a budget priced title on release. You could find a copy at just about anywhere even including outlet and discount stores at one point like KayBee and Biglots for about $20 or less.

    I still love king of fighters 11 because this gave us so much content, so many things you could do in it and a weird roster of characters that somehow actually work. Plus this game introduced me to Hotaru from mark of the Wolves a little bit more interestingly and she became one of my favorite female characters to use, both in part because I love her fighting style and also because I love her super. Really about the only things that suck about this game is some of the challenges could have been a little bit easier because there were times where a lot of them have ridiculous conditions to complete, the judgement ring was an odd way to determine a winner even if you were doing good and Magaki.......FUCK MAGAKI! Outside of that this game is still a very fun time and I would think was the last time we had extra content in a fighting game before everything went to more online focus and barely any bonus content. Well that and KOF13 and at least they both HAD Mai on release, even if getting Mai in 11 was bonkers lol.

    Also storywise this game made hate Chizuru, and made me realize the problem wasn't Ash but how much of an idiot she is. Why did this woman sent Kyo and Shingo with Yagami knowing the influence of Orochi was in the air thanks to her stupidity from the previous game? Where she herself broke the seal for Botan's group
    Basically Kyo and Shingo would had died in the hands of Orochi Iori if Ash wasn't a good guy thanks to Chizuru's idea and she probably wouldn't had cared about their deaths anyway. Even Heidern is more smarter than Chizuru in canon considerating Leona isn't in this game because of the influence of Orochi being in the air as we saw in the ending of the Ikari team in 2003
