Brilliant Lady! She also did alot of "Outside Projects". Happy Birthday To Me, James At 15, with Lance Kerwin and an ABC Afterschool Special. Linwood Boomer did well for himself on Malcolm In The Middle. She was even a Dance Judge on Dance Fever which as you know was based on The Dance Contest in Saturday Night Fever. What a wonderful interview, she is such a level headed, intelligent woman. Thank you Melissa for so many hours of family oriented shows. Wish we had something today like Little House today.
Why do they never talk about Karen Grassle in these interviews? I've seen many with Melissa Gilbert, and now Melissa Sue Anderson, and Ms. Grassle's name never comes up. I thought she was terrific as Ma Ingalls, rarely given enough to do, but she always projected a quiet grace and dignity that goes unsung. They even talked about Victor French in this one, and Ms. Grassle is strangely omitted.
They showed Karen Grassle and Melissa Anderson mentioned how Melissa Gilbert was more of a tomboy and she was more of a mama's girl. It showed her and Ma Ingalls together. I forget which part this was in.
Quite grace and dignity. You expressed it so well... That's one of the main reasons I watch the show. I'm studying her, I want to be as graceful as her. I'm in awe of her character.
It's great to see a child actor be so content as a grown woman, no drugs, no jealousy no stupid reality shows. Melissa Sue Anderson is a true professional, although i didn't know that it was her that chose to write herself out of the show because of her blind character situation. I still like and admire Mellissa Sue Anderson.
I was 9 years old when Little House on the Prairie started in 1974. I am 51 years old now. I grew up watching the show and I loved it then and I still love it now. Also it is based on the lives of real people who really existed which makes it even better. Great acting from a really great cast and the sets were amazing. One of my favourite shows ever. Melissa Anderson still looks absolutely stunning.
@@americancitizen1018 U must know her personally to make such a bold statement! +defiantone She played the role perfectly, but I think she got treated fairly by the show. Mary was featured in the show pretty often when she was younger... and after she went blind, the writers did the best they could to include her as much as they could. But I think there are only so many adventurous types of stories that you can do with a blind character, so it's not easy. I only wish they used it more to bring Laura and Mary closer together, with more of Laura describing the sights she sees to Mary.
bobdonda Well I still say they misused her. I think Melissa Sue Anderson said somewhere that they kinda wanted to write her out of the cast towards the end of the shows run, so that's why she wanted out. And I cant says I would blame her, if that was the case. And I reckon she would know. But still, she's still a might purdy woman.
Just scrolled through my RUclips responses and saw this one from a while back... So after thinking about this topic again, I think the real problem with this whole situation was the show introducing the character of Adam, or at least introducing him so soon. In the books, Mary continued to be a significant character because she still lived at home. Laura would go on walks with her, "be her eyes" and describe what she was seeing to Mary, and they really grew closer to each other than ever before. The show could have used some of this, with Mary helping to give advice to Laura with her problems and things like that. They could always introduce Adam later if they want Mary to get married and work at the blind school. With the way they instantly put her together with Adam, it was hard to keep her involved. They moved the Ingalls/Olesons/Garveys to the city (I loved this change of scenery btw) for a while and Mary could still be involved... and then after everyone moved back to Walnut Grove, they brought Mary and the blind school back later... it was kind of awkward. Mary couldn't be a natural part of the show anymore unless it was a "blind school" episode. And to go off topic here... what a shame that the girls who played Carrie weren't good actors. Some of the best parts of the books were when Carrie got old enough to do things with Laura and become a friend to her instead of just being "Baby Carrie". Carrie was shy and timid and Laura helped bring her out of her shell.
Laura never told the story of Mary going blind in the books. I think it would have been very interesting to see how Laura and her family dealt with that situation, but it must have been very sad and depressing (and scary for Mary), and maybe Laura didn't want to deal with such a serious topic in a book that's aimed towards children. In the opening of By the Shores of Silver Lake, she simply writes that Mary had been sick and went blind, and that Laura and everyone else were helping her by describing to her what they see.
I agree with her that it's weird for Adam to regain his sight (such an unrealistic situation), only for them to never follow up on it much in the show. They could have done some episodes with him taking on other legal cases even if she's just there to support him. Strangely, the show portrayed it as something that drove a wedge between Adam and Mary.
+bobdonda Agreed, except I don't think it was a permanent wedge between the characters. If this show was on now they probably could have transitioned between scenes in a big city and scenes in Walnut Grove. Thought it was silly for them to have Adam go back to Walnut Grove for that 1 case. Also I thought it was soo sweet for Missy to have felt guilty about Linwood losing his job because she decided to leave. They were so great together onscreen and wonderful actors, it was a shame they weren't given more creative stories to play out.
I absolutely loved this television series growing up. I still think back on it fondly. Loved this Melissa Anderson interview. I never knew what had happened to her and it was lovely to get an update on her life like this. Her childhood acting didn't spoil the lovely character that she is. It's amazing how she gave up acting for her family. I admire her even more for making that selfless choice. A wonderful person all round.
I loved Melissa Sue Anderson she was always gorgeous beautiful.n great actress for Mary Ingals . Melissa was in one of my favorite horror movies Happy Birthday to me
I watched the show when I was in my early 20's now almost in the twilight of my life I cherish those days when America was so different. LHOTP will always be my number 1 show by a distance, I love the whole crew, specially Michael ,RIP who put it all together.
She is such a naturally beautiful woman. Whew.. been making my heart skip a beat for 30+ years! And so down to earth too.. God sure did good making her :) ❤
She reminds me of the Country gospel singer, Twila Paris, though maybe I'm the only one who sees anything similar. But it seems that both of them have honorable lives throughout their successes.
I don't think it's rehearsed. To me it seems like she weighs every word twice beforee speaking them. Somehow it seems to me like she is maybe blocking out some stuff.
My goodness...she still has those beautiful eyes. I am so happy to have gotten to see this interview and found all the interviews with the other cast members..GREAT memories. I was born in 73 and the show started in 72 I believe so I grew up watching the reruns and I just loved them all. Every episode they brought up I remember seeing.
Such a great interview!!! I Loved Little House on the Prairie it was a wonderful part of my childhood. I agree more shows like this would be nice. Thank goodness for reruns
Thank you very much for sharing this interview! I'm from Argentina, and we all enjoy the show, which keeps on T.V. over the years... Melissa Sue is one of the best actresses of all times! Thanks a lot to her for being a part of my family for so many years!
I wish she can get the best offer for having her own television series someday where she's the main character including other actors and actresses. I think she would be the biggest star all over again. And by the way, one of my cousin, Michael Maxedon has 3 kids and his oldest is his daughter who looks a lot like Melissa Sue Anderson.
Children shouldn’t be the centre of attention. We were brought up to respect adults and humbly to stay in the background when adults met and talked. It is a good thing to learn that instead of expecting attention in any situation.

Melissa is a lovely woman. I admired her and still do for her maturity, confidence, caring nature, her togetherness, ambition, and beauty. She's been very lucky.
I guess if I had all or most of the traumatic rolls in a show & had em want to kill my character off the show, I would be a little pissed off to.But she was the only one nominated for something on that show.So maybe she wasn't mean to them, maybe they were just jealous of her & her acting skills. But I will say this, she was my 1st crush as a kid though. She has such pretty blue eyes.Even to this day, she is still gorgeous.
I know it has this wholesome rep. but my father wouldn't stand watching this show he said it was the most depressing thing on TV. and looking at it now, it does seem like the theme was to find how many bad things they could make happen to Mary. Who is so beautiful even now.
Looking back on all the episodes, like she said I have also thought, Boy, all the traumatic stuff happened to Mary, the barn burning, going blind, almost dying from that infection, the baby dying, and getting kidnapped! But I'm not so sure I could see Laura doing all the intense rolls, And that emmy nomination happened for a reason, She was great as Mary and when I decided to check on the "where are they now" kinda of stuff, it was Melissa Anderson I most wanted to see. Really enjoyed this!
Wow, she looks just as beautiful now as she did back then! Doesn't even look like she's aged a bit! The only thing different is that her eyes aren't as strikingly blue as when she was on the show.
Great interviews with her! She was very thorough and answered great...Looks gorgeous still as well!! The dude who did the interview is awful! Sounds so obvious he went back in the studio and dubbed the voices.
I've only knew LHOTP for a year now, cuz I'm only 13, mum showed me and my little sister it and we came obsessive with it. Watching it over again. My friends have no clue on little house I tell them to watch it but there like Nooo it will be a dumb farm show.
Melissa was gorgeous back then and even more today! She must be around 42 today? She seems to be a very nice lady. I agree with her 100%..there are not enough family oriented shows today, Reality tv has taken over,,like Melissa says..its a shame!
I love the show there isn't that many shows like little house that's what makes it speacel and differenet to every show in then world. It makes me smile because my parnets watch this when they were younger than I am now and they love it too. That's how I got into loving this show. I love all the charaters of the show, my favorites were Charles, Mary, Albert and Mr Edwards. As I got into more of all then seasons of the show, I loved them all now. Charles- he is a loving, hard working father just like my own father. And Charles makes jokes just like my Dad. Caroline- She reminds me of my Mum. All ways trys to help us out with our clothes. She has the same smile as my Mum too. Mary- She looks like my twin sister a lot. Blonde long hair, bigger cheeks than me. Hannah is a lot like Mary, Mary loved to read, learn about history like Hannah. Laura- Laura reminds me of me! I am the more outdoors person than my twin. I loved to just be outside. I dont really care that much about hair or clothes like Hannah. I always was not the studying type, and always never really read books. I love to learn outside! Carrie- she reminds more like I want a little sister! I've alwas wanted on, Carrie is cute but gets more grown up as she gets older. Mr+Mrs Olsen- they remind me the funny side of my parnets. Dad would be more quite than Mum. This is funny like a double act!
Wow how attractive is she... Back then and nearly as old then, I too had a crush(lucky EP's son) and now looking at her again reminded me how beautiful she was then and now. Thanks for posting. Wish she would tweet so I can tweet at her :-)

After all, she is still beautiful
Thank you so much for sharing these. I really enjoyed the videos.
The real Mary ingalls never married
I watched all 6 part's ..... I'm truly impressed ...... I had no idea . true talent .... thank you !!!!!!!!!!! I'm at a loss of word's for once .
Melissa was in one of my favorite horror movies Happy Birthday to me
A class act.
I watched the show when I was in my early 20's now almost in the twilight of my life I cherish those days when America was so different.
LHOTP will always be my number 1 show by a distance, I love the whole crew, specially Michael ,RIP who put it all together.
Such a beautiful woman. Loved her as Mary.
What a nice down to earth lady.
I like Melissa Sue Anderson's voice
I'm glad her children got to have a mother at home.
I loved the interview and the the ending when Micheal Landon is playing his Violin. My Micheal and all the others that have past RIP.
Little House was the last show on t.v. that still mentioned the name of The Lord Jesus Christ!we need more shows like this!
I don't think it's rehearsed. To me it seems like she weighs every word twice beforee speaking them.
Somehow it seems to me like she is maybe blocking out some stuff.
She seems down to earth and likable.
They should have had a blonde wig on her. The brown one looks really silly
VenusMy129 agreed!
Yup, too dark. She was really pretty I can see why she wanted to move on.
Melissa Anderson seems like a really kind loving person with a big heart
What a life. GOD Bless her and her family.💕
A great interview....cool too that we share the same birthdays I do miss good TV though...very slim pickings nowadays.
The pilot premiered in the Spring of 1974 and the First Season premiered Fall 1974.
Melissa Anderson will always be remembered as the most beautiful and charming girl ever in little house
Beautiful, yes. Charming, No.
This BEAUTIFUL woman, has lived a GOOD life. Best part is, she *ORCHESTRATED IT* . Kuddos‼️
What a great respectful interviewer. And a very beautiful actress till this day. Thank you for the memories Melissa.
She is very sincere and down-to-earth. She is not rude and arrogant like so many Hollywood women.
Her costars say otherwise.
Her costars are ALL HOLLYWEIRDS, this beautiful woman, is *NOT* .
She has BARELY changed its amazing
it's interesting to hear her be honest about her hardships on LH being "a little overdone." that was also part of 70s tv
I like her. She put her family first.
It's an interesting conversation there she always thought about what matters what's important in life
These have been great. Where did this interview come from?
Thanks again!!!
She has such pretty blue eyes.Even to this day, she is still gorgeous.
roles
Melissa made me laugh when she said she'd catch herself acting blind when she did other shows but was happy no one noticed her doing it.
I know it has this wholesome rep. but my father wouldn't stand watching this show he said it was the most depressing thing on TV. and looking at it now, it does seem like the theme was to find how many bad things they could make happen to Mary. Who is so beautiful even now.
It's sad he felt that way. It was a very uplifting show.
she is so beautiful. She hasn't aged
Melissa Anderson is truley a great part of t.v.
She seems cool.
I loved the show, i loved every character for an array of reasons. I think Melissa did a fantastic job playing Mary and the show.
Very enjoyable interview.
Jewelkitten38 shes married to an author by the name of Michael Sloan...they have 2 kids
so many memories...thank you for uploading the interview
She still look great and I never even seen the show but I remember seeing her photoshots in the Japanese '"Screen" magazine during the 1970s.
It is interesting.
Wow, she looks just as beautiful now as she did back then! Doesn't even look like she's aged a bit! The only thing different is that her eyes aren't as strikingly blue as when she was on the show.
Melissa sue Anderson was a natural born actress , till now I watch LHOTP
Great interviews with her! She was very thorough and answered great...Looks gorgeous still as well!! The dude who did the interview is awful! Sounds so obvious he went back in the studio and dubbed the voices.
Yes, I think people do want more family shows...too bad there’s so much junk on tv now.
I've only knew LHOTP for a year now, cuz I'm only 13, mum showed me and my little sister it and we came obsessive with it. Watching it over again. My friends have no clue on little house I tell them to watch it but there like Nooo it will be a dumb farm show.
melissa very nice,nice
I love Melissa Sue Anderson as an actress I wish she would come back onto a New show! She looks great!🌹
I truly love this show! I'm only like 30 but I love it! Mary was always my fav character
Thank you for posting the interview. I thought she was one of the best young actors ever.
It sounds like the voice of the interviewer is dubbed. Sounds very fake.
Wow how attractive is she... Back then and nearly as old then, I too had a crush(lucky EP's son) and now looking at her again reminded me how beautiful she was then and now. Thanks for posting. Wish she would tweet so I can tweet at her :-)
I love the show it is when tv was tv
What a gorgeous woman and better yet...what a nice lady she turned out to be!
I'm glad to see Hollywood didn't ruin Melissa Sue Anderson like it did to some other child stars, I remember as a child seeing the two-part episode where Mary went blind and it was HORRIFYING to me at the time. Good actress.
THE VERY FIRST TIME I WATCHED THE SHOW- I TOTALLY FELL IN LOVE WITH HER AMAZING BLUE EYES!!!
Such a beautiful lady --inside and out. A real class act. Loved Little House Wish there more lovely shows today like that! Thanks for sharing!!
She is very pretty!
Thanks so much for posting this interview. I really appreciate her more now that I heard her interview. Thanks again for posting!
After all these years Melissa Anderson still looks beautiful as she was in little house
This show help shape my life thanks Little house and all the wonderful actors 😀
I have now seen all 6 parts of this interview, and I must say Melissa come across just as beautiful on the inside as on the outside. Great interview!
She doesn't look it! She looks GREAT!
