It’s been a long time since I have seen anyone steer a tractor with the brakes. You make it look easy Ben. Stay safe, have a great day and may God bless…
When I saw the thumbnail I knew what the comments would be. I thought, man, if the RUclips world knew what is going on on farms around the world to get jobs done with what we’ve got to work with, they’d lose their minds. 😂 You only need the front wheels on the ground when you don’t have two brake pedals. Lol. Thanks for sharing! 👍
It looked like you were trying to tame a bucking horse but it was your Massey 🤣🤣👍🏻. Great job Ben, those were some big logs 😳. Have a great Sunday 🙂🙋🏼♂️👍🏻
Ben it's enjoyable to watch a young man operate a machine and get so much work done easily with a small machine understanding the common sense of physics. Stay safe my friend!
Yes physics was my best subject in school, not really but I do understand a good bit about it. It’s good to show what can be done even without the biggest and baddest equipment! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing I definitely have a lot to learn But don’t worry I will not be doing any of what you showed today ! You got skills buddy and you emphasized safety Have a great evening!
Phil it’s not so much skill but knowing how and when to stop. I watched it done a lot before ever getting brave enough to try. The big Kubota has really been a game changer with logging. Thanks for watching!
I remember skidding with an old Ford and having my mom drive the tractor while I sat on he hood for counterweight lol. I’ve steered with the brakes many times. Doing logs with a 2 wheel drive tractor it becomes a necessary skill. Good video
@@khtractors Ben, I hope you don’t allow the Safety Police to get under your skin and change who you are. Just remember when you receive criticism from viewers it’s simply them declaring that they never knew the hardscrabble life like your father and I have - and that you were raised knowing. Keep doing what you’re doing and let your light so shine.
Ben, i’ve been working on refining and chemical plants most of your life. I know everything there is to know but we still get safety lessons every day. You are too good of a man and too valuable in your community to take chances over an old log. There’s other safer ways to do this. We love you and we want you to stay in one piece. That’s why you’re getting a safety lesson from me because I want to see to make more videos. And do what the Lord wants you to do in your area
I understand your concern. Pulling this way once the load levels out the tractor won’t raise any higher. I know there’s a better way but sometimes I just enjoy seeing if I can another way. It really isn’t as dangerous as it may seem as long as your ready to stop 🛑! When the fronts up it’s basically just like going up a slope the same angle. Have a good weekend!

Then I've watched you enough to know that you can by the way you act that you can handle the machinery and everything some of these guys you could tell with brand new tractors and everything they had no idea what the tractor is capable of thank you for your TV and thank you for the good
Yes it wasn’t my first rodeo on the rear wheels 😆! It can be dangerous for sure but being ready to hit the clutch is the important part. Thanks for watching
nicely done Ben..even tho i got the big 285 4x4 i still do it this way from time to time just cause that how dad done it and how i was taught and just because i can .lol. somtimes changing things up is fun.
Is a 230 Massey Ferguson a good tractor? I know they can be had in gas or diesel, just don’t know much about them. I found several in my price range locally, just curious.
A 230 is a good tractor if you find one that’s been taken care of. The diesel is the same base as the 245 or 135 just with different hp settings. Thanks for watching
That’s the way to do it Ben, them 245 are stout ones, don’t worry about safety police, they never grow up on two wheel tractor’s, and make it work to get the job done thanks sharing and keeping it real.
I’m not a give up type person when it comes to pulling logs, just ask Dad. Someway somehow it’s going to move. This is one of those things I’ve seen and done a lot. Yes it’s slightly risky but knowing when and how to stop is key! Thanks for watching!
@@khtractors yes it’s skill and knowledge to things on tractors or anything else too, when I was young kid I seen my bush hog and take a tractor place’s most wouldn’t take 4 wheel drive tractor today I learned on two wheel drive tractor’s and pickup’s and if didn’t want to walk or move haul things by you learned how drive them because we didn’t like waking or moving things around in our hills lol
Reminds me of an old timer, he would pull old apple tree stumps with an F-20. He'd come out of the seat, that Farmall with it's nose at 45 degrees. Always a show.
I had you in my thoughts today when I was at the Kubota dealer, Ben. I was looking at a shiny, new rear blade and wondering if I should spend more money on another implement right now. But I thought about you out here and that country folks do what they have to do with what they have until they can get something better. You know your risk and you know your equipment. Still, be safe and stay with us my friend!
I’ll be safe, I told someone earlier I’m more comfortable doing this then driving on the interstate. You do need a rear blade eventually, but like you said it’s not a necessity right now. Appreciate you watching!
Them 245 Masseys are as handy as a pocket on a T Shirt. We use to move hay with a 65 Massey Gas tractor and I drove it with the brakes on one property where we fed at and that property had hills and uneven spots and that 65 had the best brakes plus it would start in winter where a lot of the worn diesel tractors had to have encouragement from a can you might say.
Ben, I see your having fun also😂 Thats one of the things that led to my Bobcat purchase. Having to maneuver The Tractor in tight areas with the brakes, really difficult with a loader. Good job pulling the it! Tell it like it is! No Helmet or ear protection! Shame Shame😂 Stay warm my friend and wax the snow shovel 🚜🪵👍🏼🇺🇸
Larry your kinda like me on the safety police, sometimes we just have to get the job done. Calculated risks! Yes got the snow gear ready! Appreciate you watching!
And that is exactly the reason why I have quit using a lifting boom for skidding logs and have made something that is closer to the 3 point lift. I can still get the front of a log of the ground but am not steering with just the brakes ... looks cool though from out of the drivers seat.
Yeah the boom takes too much weight from the front, I should have chained it up a little closer to where the top link attaches after getting them out of the pile. Normally I’d be using the 3 point grapple on the Farmtrac or Kubota. Thanks for watching!
Lookout for those safety sallies Ben, they’ll sideswipe you. 😎 Nice control on the MF. Experience takes time, you’ve put in a lot of time doing respective tractor tasks. Skilled operators have a lot of experience. Don’t let the SS get you down, you’ve put the time in. Thanks for bringing us along.
I just wanted to clear up all I could before anyone could rib me to much on being stupid and dangerous 😆! I’m learning not to take those things to personal anymore. Really appreciate you watching! Take care!
That kind of pulling power is only found in a Massey. Great driving skill, but I would be too afraid of breaking something! I try to take it easy with my old Massey since it's the only tractor I have. Take care
They only time it’s really hard on the tractor is if you drop the front end down hard. It’s a lot easier to control with the wet brakes on the 245 vs the dry style on your tractor and the 135. I’m impressed how well your front end stays down, I think it might be slightly longer then the 245. Thanks for watching!
Hey Ben, nice handling your machines. Your proficiency is definitely evident. Does that MF have individual rear breaks? Or is it just one... And where's all the snow? Did it melt or was this from earlier in the season? Have a good weekend.
All my tractors have independent brakes except the BX. Sure wish it had that as well. The snow melted mostly, calling for more tomorrow. I chained up the M6060 tonight, not sure that’s necessary but we may have ice to start with in the morning. Appreciate you watching buddy!
@@khtractors oh that's good. I've only ever owned a BX :) haha. We are supposed to get 12 inches of snow on Monday! So that'll be our biggest snowfall this season.
Individual brakes are very nice, I sure wish the sub compact tractors had them. That ole Massey has done a lot of logging over the years. Appreciate you watching!
Ben, if that log was a shark, you would need a bigger boat - The nice thing about the 245 is the relatively low center of gravity and wide stance - enjoy the journey - cheers
Farmtrac definitely will because of the longer heavier front end! I had the wood splitter hooked up to it though or that’s probably what I would have used. Thanks for watching!
You were moving very carefully. I don't think that was unsafe, given your experience. Great video! Nice logs! You know they are pretty heavy when the Kubota won't pull them! Had to get the Massey out!!!
Yeah had to get saved by the Massey 🤣! It’s really not as dangerous as it might seem. I’d sure rather the front wheels be up then the back! Thanks for watching!
I watched Uncle Ray does these things as a young kid and watched closely how he handled the tractor. I guess you’d call it an educated risk. Sometimes Dad would scold me a little when doing this 😃! Thanks for watching!
I think there’s much more dangerous things you could be doing ! If it were to go too far the log would just go to the ground. We would get fronts pretty high up on the pullin tractors. I’ve seen those boom poles and never thought much of them but works well with the skiddin tongs and seems to hold up to the weight of those big logs too !
I used boom poles and skidding for years before making the 3 point grapple. Broke a lot of boom poles too 🤣! You would really have to try hard to flip one over backwards. Appreciate you watching Richie!
