This is an excellent video. Many thanks Casey. The camera work, and the step by step approach of how you are approaching these projects is very helpful.
Someone corrected your pronunciation ... wow! LMAO I agree pressing is sewing. I heard one time that sewing is 40% prep, 40% finishing (pressing is included in that) and 20% actual sewing. Great dresses. Love watching your process.
I love the way you own those clothes by modeling @ the end , you are so sure of yourself. I have also noticed you have some great music, guess you're a natural at this!!
Wow I have such an appreciation for how much skill it takes to make a garment the proper way in one day. I’m currently trying to finish a linen dress like the red one you made and it has taken me 3 days. I still have just the hemming to do and there’s definitely several flaws. I’m giving myself a little grace since I decided to pick up sewing again after a 20 year break from it and it’s a learning curve to remember what to do. Also, I chose to make something that had features I’ve never done before like shirring, a button placket, fully lining the bodice and a panel skirt to match up with all the seams. I decided to make a princess seam bodice. I know I’ll get better but darn that was hard! Thanks for the great videos and for inspiring me to get back into sewing.
Oh that one took me a couple of days to finish, too! It definitely still takes time to finish even simple garments. And it's great you're tackling some of the more advanced techniques! :)
Congratulations my dear, the fabric belt was a great idea, a little detail to elevate such a pretty dress❤ I absolutely love the terracota dress, it looks so good on you 😊 Thank u for sharing your beautiful creations
Oh, these are so great! I also want to thank you for showing me how to approach sewing with linen. I bought a few lengths of linen recently, and pre-washed them, leaving me with crinkly fabric to work with, even after pressing. I knew that linen will do this, and I was sort of looking forward to that relaxed, “summer” look. But it made me a little nervous to be working with fabric that wasn’t completely flat and crisp. Watching you work with it has helped me see past my irrational apprehension. So, thank you. 😊
My Mum had a dress exactly like your first one, the brown one, except the collar was full and it didn't have pockets at the hip She wore it everywhere and looked great in it. She definitely had a matching belt, but it was with a self covered belt buckle. That style was worn a bit looser, and was brought it by the belt. I love these dresses so much.
I love your sewing videos - each point clearly demonstrated and explained. At the end your viewers are treated to you modelling your fab garments. These dresses are gorgeous!🌷
Really interesting video on how you approach pattern customization. I'm still at a point in my sewing where I need the pattern pieces for each step. I hope I advance in my sewing to go 'rogue' as well and make it all look so professional and beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
Wow this is absolutely stunning! You’ve given me hope that I can actually do this! I want some linen dresses so bad but the cost of buying them are so expensive. I’m going to try this. Thank you so much.
I find this video quite intriguing, although most is beyond my skill level as I’m not much of a garment sewer-easily confused/frustrated.🤦 It’s going to be a great future resource if I decide to make another attempt at garment sewing. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I absolutely love them, such timeless pieces too. You look lovely in them. Really enjoyed watching the process as always. Look forward to seeing what you do with the other linen 🤗🤗🤗
Love all your videos, they are awesome, feel cosy and happy to watch them, maybe because of your sewing room which is cosy as well😊from mauritius....xx
Thanks for the wonderfully made video! You inspired me to try fitting my garments. I'm usually very scared of fitting and you showed so much confidence... Congratulations.
Shirring is one of _those_ words, it doesn’t sound right no matter how you say it 😂 I think the terracotta might be my favourite, but only because the colour terracotta just edges out olive green for me. Both dresses were lovely though. Can’t wait to see what you do with the navy blue one.
Wow! I love both of these dresses! You are helping to make me a lot more adventurous in my sewing. I just made a pattern from a ready-to-wear skirt that I love and am sewing it up. I know, it’s a simple skirt, but one step at a time right? Thanks for sharing!
The pronunciation police strike again!! 🙄 must be nice in their perfect world 😂 I loved ALL of these dresses, I think my style is similar to yours, simple, comfortable and classic. And I love your accent, it's so relaxing! 😊
so awesome…., both dresses! Whereby I like the longer dress more, maybe because of my own legs🙈. I have never young elastic threat…., it looks so great but I think I have much respect for the bobbin part. You did it by hand…., and there must be a reason for that. Fear! And then…. So many buttonholes and buttons😣. I have never sewn one single button hole…., very funny😢. But the pattern is so nice. Does anybody from here if it is easy to follow? And thanks for the fabric recommendation🙏. I think i really need the pattern as well as the fabric. And a lot of courage. You are a star💕 thank you!
You are one of the most brillant sewist I follow and I love your style ! You inspire me to create my clothing .Those linen dresses are beautiful very hard to say wich one are my favotite.
Just found your channel, you have tackled some big outer wear projects, lived that green wool coat and what a happy accident with the pockets, loved the ones you choose and also love the snaps, amazing how you can modify to fit your taste learning alot from you.
Ok, I've always loved linen garments, but ready to buy let's me down almost every time 😖 YOU have inspired me to make my own custom pieces 😳 Those look FABULOUS!🤩💃
That's great! I feel the same: never been able to find affordable linen pieces that I absolutely love in stores. But I love sewing with linen...it is so nice to work with and really lasts.
Two wins. The big belt loops on the sleeveless dress create the illusion of a tiny waist. Pockets and belt loops: who knew they could make or break the design?
They both turned out so great! I love that olive utility dress...that would even be cute in the fall/winter with a turtleneck or long sleeve tee and boots. Thanks so much for showing the hidden placket steps -- I think they're also in the Byrdie Button-up instructions (??), but helpful to see it constructed from scratch here! Also nice to see the shirring on a mid-weight linen...I've only tried it on really light fabrics, but it works so well on the rust sundress!
Thank you! That olive dress would be so cute layered for fall, for sure! And the shirring worked beautifully on the linen 🙌 very comfy and I feel like the linen was esepcailly easy to manage for that step (compared to some of the lighter weight fabrics I've tried it on).
Gorgeous Dresses and I love your process and seeing it through!. Did I miss seeing the back of the terracotta dress? I didn't see it! I wanted to see how the shirring turned out! I trust it was gorgeous! Also I love the look of the collar "stand" type detail!
Thanks, Theresa! I showed the back a little in a clip during construction, but somehow managed to edit out all the clips of the back for the reveal without realizing it! Sorry about that!
Those are both great. The olive one has a very safari vibe with the large breast pockets (pockets that are large and on the breast, not pockets that are on large breaststroke, haha) and the chunky belt and belt loops. And I love the straight, squared off button up neckline on the other one. I usually see shirring (which i don't know ow how to pronounce), the top front is just straight across. The top button being open adds so much flattering shape. Thanks for the inspiration.
You are so talented. I love how both dresses turned out. I bought some of the terra-cotta linen per your rec and can’t wait to sew it into a dress as well!
Love the vibes both dresses give you: olive is perfect for business and the terracotta is romantic. Both lengths are perfect on you. Your dart markings are wonderful. How do you do that so well? And, I loved seeing you use all of that olive fabric. Sewing is expensive so like seeing people use up all the fabric!
I love linen, so fresh to wear. Just wondering why you didn’t have the Pfaff IDT engaged? It would save having to pull the fabric from the back and feed through the multiple layers better (I’m a Pfaff girl)
Love both dresses! I am actually just about to make one similar to the terra cotta dress but with coral linen and princess seam bodice like the reformation one.
Thank you for your videos Casey. You’re very talented! I noticed you dont iron your linen before cutting the pattern. Why? I have washed my linen and was going to iron it before I cut. Should I not do this?
Absolutely Loved how your dresses turned out. FYI - the iron you are using has been recalled- I thought you would want to know. Several sewists I know have returned theirs and got a refund. 😩
Thanks!! I got those shoes several years ago...they are 'Madden Girl' brand and the style name on the bottom is "Lori". Not sure if they are still available but I love them!
Thanks for your great video. I love both dresses. By the way, the pronunciation of shirring depends on where you are from. In Britain and most of Canada in rhymes with "hearing". In the US it rhymes with "purring". Neither is "wrong". Say it any way you want.
I don't think it is available anymore, unfortunately! I'm sorry! :/ I bought it a few years ago at Hobby Lobby and can't find it anywhere online (not even something similar). Such a shame, because it is such a great little ironing mat!
@PatternScout it is but am going to buy the iron for sure. It looks like it works like magic/beast, just like those normal iron. It's so small and cute.
I always feel like people think I sound drunk when I pronouncing shirring. Sounds like slurring. And it may depend on where you are from in the US, like puh-can/pee-can. 😂 Love all the dresses! Too bad we’re running out of summer.
I found that one at Hobby Lobby a few years ago. I've searched all over the internet trying to find one similar and have had zero luck, which is crazy! It's so handy!
Scotch tape over buttons to hold them in place? BRILLIANT!
Say shirring however you like, almost every sewist I watch says it differently 🤣.
That's the truth! haha
Pressing IS sewing! 🙌🏻 Never underestimate the power of your iron 😄
Amen! :)
Omg that terracotta dress is to die for. Stunning!
That one is definitely my FAVE! :)
You are such a beautiful seamstress. Thank you for sharing your beautiful creations.
This is an excellent video. Many thanks Casey. The camera work, and the step by step approach of how you are approaching these projects is very helpful.
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it!
Love that terracotta colored longer sun dress! SO cute! Love it!
Very beautiful dresses, amazing finish. Your enthusiasm for sewing creating new projects is very inspiring
Love both dresses!!!!! Love the way you present and teach!!!
Thank you so much!
Both dresses look fantastic! The terracotta one is my favorite.
Two gorgeous dresses. You are amazing Casey.
Thank you so much!
Love how you sew and how you explain as you go along! Thank you for what you bring to your channel. Always look forward to your videos! 👏🏼

I'm so glad that it was helpful! I know the feeling of wanting the linen to be perfectly flat, haha! It definitely has it's own "character" :)

Some styles are just so timeless! I love that!
Love both dresses! I want an olive one with short sleeves for Fall…wearing linen after Labor Day 🤫 don’t tell 😉
Lovely, lovely dresses, Casey!! I have to say again, you are so clever!!
Beautiful AND super talented. The dresses are gorgeous! LOVE the linen!!!
I love your sewing videos - each point clearly demonstrated and explained. At the end your viewers are treated to you modelling your fab garments. These dresses are gorgeous!🌷

Gorgeous outcomes. You look beautiful in both. ❤
Hi. I really like the way you present the videos. Thanks.
Wow this is absolutely stunning! You’ve given me hope that I can actually do this! I want some linen dresses so bad but the cost of buying them are so expensive. I’m going to try this. Thank you so much.
Two gorgeous dresses! Love the fabric and they fit you so well!
Beautiful so stunning both of the dresses
Stunning dress, I love linen and the style is perfect. 😊
I love those dresses. Thanks for sharing
Oh wow I never thought to tape down buttons to keep them in place. What a great tip!!
das orangene Kleid Sitze wirklich super 😊
I find this video quite intriguing, although most is beyond my skill level as I’m not much of a garment sewer-easily confused/frustrated.🤦 It’s going to be a great future resource if I decide to make another attempt at garment sewing. Thanks for sharing your experience.

So glad you feel inspired to go for it! Once you do it a few times, it gets less scary :)
So pretty!
Scotch tape for buttons?!?! I will have to try that!❤ I have a Southern accent and I say shirring same as you. Both dresses are amazingly gorgeous!
Thank you!
Super cute! I need to go and make these dresses for myself now!
Shirring is one of _those_ words, it doesn’t sound right no matter how you say it 😂
I think the terracotta might be my favourite, but only because the colour terracotta just edges out olive green for me. Both dresses were lovely though. Can’t wait to see what you do with the navy blue one.
That is so true haha. Every time I say it, I just feel weird! Sounds a little different every time! The terra cotta dress is my fave too!
Really liked both of if these dresses. It would be hard for me to choose a favorite. Well done.
Love taping the button down prior to attaching. Great idea!
Wow! I love both of these dresses! You are helping to make me a lot more adventurous in my sewing. I just made a pattern from a ready-to-wear skirt that I love and am sewing it up. I know, it’s a simple skirt, but one step at a time right? Thanks for sharing!
Ah, I love that! My simplest makes are some of my favorite and most worn!
I love linen! One of my favorite types of fabric!
Haha, I totally forgot the pockets and realized it when the dress was almost done--I may go back and add them!
@@PatternScout ooooops!

Both dresses are perfectly fitted, and the fabric flows so well!
Such perfect fits, impressive!
I love both of your dresses! Just Beautiful ❤
Both dresses are beautiful and so different!
They're both beautiful! Love the shirring on the second one! I haven't got up the courage to try that yet, but I will! Someday!
I just love the brown dress that looked so easy to make 👍😎🐕🦺🐈⬛

Te quedaron muy bonitos, me encantaron. gracias por compartir tu talento.
Pretty dresses and I’m sure they feel so comfy in the warm humid August summer.
They both turned out amazing, great job! I want to purchase some linen now and sew me a couple dresses……thanks for always inspiring.😊
Love love love……will you be creating patterns for these….must have 😊
Thanks for sharing your process! I have the buttonhole chisel tool, but have yet to make a buttonhole 😂. I need to practice that.

Oh! Yes, I interfaced both (sorry forgot to mention it in the video!) :)
"Giving sack" 😂😂😂
I can't get my needle shaft up far enough to get most buttons underneath the buttonbfoot to sew them on. Is there a trick I don't know?
