I had no idea that there were so many different types of linen. Thank you so much for some great tips. I love the tip about marking the right side on pattern pieces, and the tip about finishing seams. Great advice x

Good evening and your top is gorgeous and looks awesome on you. Thank you for the wonderful information on linen and Lamazi Fabrics. I am really looking forward to purchasing fabric
from them and letting you know about what I sewed with the fabric. Take care now and have a good day.

I am just starting sewing simple item of clothing and something that really puts me off is the fact that I don’t really know how most fabrics feel. Your video gave me a general idea and I have to say the Lamazi shop is amazing. It would be perfect if they sold samples, I might contact them to see if I can buy some.

you should teach a class on editing. This video is just fantastic in it's production. Sam has lost his job to you, indeed. I love linen viscose blend, so I am certain I would love a tencel blend. I love the thought of lamaze fabrics, I wonder how expensive it is to ship to USA. Have a nice weekend and I hope you get some sewing in!

Excellent ! Thank-you Tamlyn for such an informative vlog. It was good to hear the descriptions of the different blends. Will head to the Lamazi blog to read more. Agree with your comment on the Love to Sew pod. It was very good too.

Thanks Tamlyn, really informative & your March top is beautiful. I'm watching this as I'm finishing off my 2nd linen garment in a row, this has some elastane in it which is a new fabric to me & yes to embracing wrinkles of the fabric & skin variety 😉

Hello from linen country (or shall I say Linenland?) I've met a few people who say they hate linen 'cause it wrinkles like crazy and I'm like: "Dude, what are you doing? You don't make your gala gown out of it, right? Linen is for loose summer casual clothes and wrinkles are kinda part of the look then."

I happen to be making a white linen lined jacket. It has been difficult for me even though I've sewed more than 50 years. I chose a unlined pattern and then decided to line it which meant making a lining pattern but made mistakes on too much lining around the vent in back and then finished the sleeves with a vent and decided to shorten them which made a redo. I also had a scissor accident and had to conceal that. My bound buttonhole has one lip instead of two! Doesn't this seem fun? I am giving myself space and work on the jacket a little each day and I can report it should be fine

Even a seasoned sewist like me (60 years off and on) can learn something new from your video so thank you. Something occurred to me when you were talking about finishing raw edges. With some garments I prefer a hand sewn hem so if I overlocked the edge first and then hemmed it by hand would this be strong enough to withstand several washes?

    ❎ Where to purchase
    linen sewing threads?
Is it ok to use cotton or polyesters?
    Thank you
    🤺💐

    • @SewnontheTyne
      @SewnontheTyne  3 года назад +1

      Hi,
I believe linen sewing thread is best for hand sewing, such as sewing on buttons, and for thicker fabrics such as in bag sewing.
For garment sewing with linen, polyester all purpose or cotton thread is absolutely fine & recommended.
Buying linen thread will depend where you are based, but I found a good range at William Gee in the UK x

I am surprised you call this fabric linen when it’s 70% viscose. It would have been nice to see a garment in 100% linen. Otherwise, this is a great video. Thanks.
